Fixing a rusted-out frame on a car or truck is a complex task that typically requires professional expertise and specialized equipment. The frame of a vehicle is its structural backbone, and if it's severely rusted, it can compromise the safety and integrity of the entire vehicle. Here's a summary of the steps involved in fixing a rusted-out frame:
Assessment: Start by thoroughly inspecting the frame of your Toyota Sequia to determine the extent of the rust damage. Identify all areas that require repair or replacement. This assessment will help you determine the scope of the project and the materials needed.
Safety precautions: Ensure proper safety measures are in place before working on the frame. This may include wearing protective gear, using sturdy jack stands to lift the vehicle, and taking necessary precautions to avoid any accidents or injuries.
Remove rusted sections: Cut out the rusted portions of the frame using a grinder, reciprocating saw, or other suitable tools. This involves removing the corroded metal until you reach clean, solid metal that can support the repair.
Fabricate or source replacement parts: Depending on the severity of the rust damage, you may need to fabricate new sections or source replacement frame parts. This may involve working with a skilled welder or contacting manufacturers or specialized suppliers to obtain the required components.
Welding and reinforcing: Fit the replacement parts into the existing frame and securely weld them in place. Ensure proper alignment and structural integrity by using strong welds and appropriate reinforcement techniques. Welding is a critical step that should be done by an experienced welder to ensure a durable repair.
Surface preparation and treatment: Once the welding is complete, clean the repaired areas thoroughly to remove any welding residues or contaminants. Treat the frame with rust inhibitors or primers to prevent future corrosion. Consider applying a protective undercoating or sealant to further enhance the frame's durability.
Quality inspection: Inspect the repaired frame carefully to ensure that all the welds are solid, the alignment is correct, and there are no other structural issues. Conducting a quality inspection helps identify any potential problems and ensures that the repaired frame is safe and reliable.
It's important to note that fixing a rusted-out frame can be a challenging task, and the expertise of a professional automotive technician or a specialized auto body repair shop is often recommended. They have the necessary knowledge, experience, and tools to handle the complexities involved in repairing a rusted frame effectively and safely. - Авто та транспорт
Well done! That should outlast the rest of the vehicle now.
Fantastic work! I’m thinking about attempting this on a rather smaller scale on my 2003 V8 4runner. Long story short I bought it not knowing they rust and now I have that issue to deal with. Watching your process of how to approach this repair gives hope that it’s feasible to attempt
Best of luck! You got this
Are you interested in fixing another one? I’m in Ohio too. front driver side cross member area.
Great work! The precision you put into this project is impressive!
Thanks for the love
@@discover4x4 how can I get in touch with you? I want to get mine done as well.

How can I get in touch with you so I can get mine done Olso thank you how much
nice!
Thank you for sharing all of these precise details with us. Very well done.
From my perspective, that is very difficult work that requires a ton of skill. You're definitely a true pro. Through and through. Plus, you're a down-to-earth good teacher too.
Just one question: What kind of treatment do you recommend for the inside of the frame?
I have an '04 Tacoma that drives up a lot of salty canyons in the winter...
For my current frame, which has a fair amount of rust, I'm thinking about knocking off the flakes (+wire brush/wheel) then, spraying it with Rust Kutter (acid/converter) followed by Fluid Film on the outside and Eastwood's internal frame coating on the inside.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Best regards
Thanks for the compliment. I like your plan for frame treatment. I like fluid film, Wol wax or PB blaster for the topcoat. It'll need reapplied once a year.
Nice fix!! But you have me shaking by raising the car by the side steps!
Can you do my tundra ? I’m in Columbus Ohio thanks
Not till the fall
@@discover4x4 ok sounds good. Let me know where is your location and the business address, please thanks
Nice job!! Same problem in MN. How much did you charge?

Is that Toyota frame recall still a thing?
The vehicle can't be older than 15 years old but yes it is

How much would you charge for this job? I have a rusty 02 sequoia that I would love to restore

How much does a repair costs?
I'm not your guy if you're looking to pay someone to do the repair, but you'll probably spend somewhere around 2500.00 at a shop.
Hey what part of Ohio are you in. I would like to bring a tundra to you. I am in ashtabula Ohio
Thanks for that but we're running an 4wd based adventure company full time now so my garage time is very limited these days
@@discover4x4 Can you recommend another shop that can do the same quality work as you?
Why? That frame is a goner. Sentimental attachment to the car? Just a bandaid, There are sequoias all around my area cheap with good frames. I would have punted on this one.
This frame is actually in much better condition than most up here in the Michigan/Ohio area. That and the body is in great shape for the area. That's why the owner decided to give it a few more years of life. The truck should go for another 100k easy from what I've seen on these
Luckily you have dabbled in jeeps before.
Juuuust a little bit. 😁😂
