Bit of a random thought, but have you ever considered getting a frame dipped and galvanized? Its common to do here in the UK and will last forever practically.
Angle grinder with a cut-off wheel for the spring bolts, I just did mine, the inner sleeve was rusted to the bolt, and they would not come out the way you did yours. Great video. Jim
Honestly love these videos so much, you have the best content on youtube for toyota pickup. Every video makes me want to work on mine and gets me motivated, they're also really informative and I learn so much
I coated my frame with eastwoods rust encapsulator. I thought mine was bad because it had light surface rust. We don’t get rust here in Georgia. I wanted it to looks really clean and I think it’s a good product.
This is fantastic, exactly the kind of stuff I want to see. How does this compare to sandblasting to bare metal and powder coating? A lot less expensive I guess, but how does it compare in terms of durability, pretty good? Thanks for sharing!! Edit, I see after I paused to comment that you addressed durability. Looks pretty nice. Thanks again for sharing all this toyota truck 22RE stuff, I simply cant get enough of it from you, love your videos. Thanks.
Thanks!! This is a first for me, so we'll see in the long run. It seems pretty tough though. For the price and being able to do it at home, it was my best choice.
Awesome video man, Ive got a 1981 Toyota Hilux that im going to rebuild. Just watching you strip that chassis theres a lot of parts, brackets, bolts etc coming off, how are you going to remember where it all goes?
I use ziplock bags and label everything, but sometimes if I'm in a hurry I'll set bolts down in the garage and once that happens a few times in one day I end up with mystery bolts :) Then I have to go back and watch these videos for help!
It was interesting to see the dismantling of the front end of your project Toyota ute it is similar to my Hilux and new rear springs well a previous owner put new springs in my Hilux because it is GVM is 2700 kilograms and the tare weight is 1200 kilograms my can carry up to 1500 kilograms so it gives a crash ride but l am used to the ride because l was a courier and owned three utes before this one
@@6thGearGarage ln N.S.W Australia we have yearly registration inspections and my Hilux has GVM of 2700 kilograms and a tare weight of 1200 kilograms and it has to be able to carry 1500 kilograms so if l even remove one leaf it may fail because the inspector takes it for a drive also with the inspections no emission test so l have to put up with the crash ride it doesn't worry me because l had a few utes with crash rides
I'm curious, did you also coat the inside of the frame with anything or is it still bare? My fear would be that the exposed rust in the frame would just start eating from the inside out if the inside was left untouched.
Yes I did with fluid film, but wanted to wait until I was done notching/welding the frame so that the welds wouldn't be contaminated. ua-cam.com/video/2yqD-gAVtSI/v-deo.html Around 5:30 in this video I sprayed the inside with Fluid Film.
I am following this project closely 😂 how do I get in contact with you? I am rebuilding a 94 2wd and I'm not a machenic at all but was inspired by your videos. Would like to share some pictures with you and ask some questions 😊 all the way from Namibia 🇳🇦 in Africa.
I had my cj7 jeep dipped in galv $.500 .00 glastonbury. Only place in ct. About 8-10 years ago.my fav 4x4 was 1979 totota. First year for 4x4 so dealers sold them fully loaded a.c. tilt amfm the little 20 r had to turn off ac when driving uphill on highway.ha ha.put chrome. Roll bar big lights. Factory graffics etc.beauty.frame had weak leaf spring perches and shock mounts welds would crack.
This is surface rust, which is perfect for a rust inhibitor. A crusty/holy frame like most of the other toyotas on the channel aren't worth painting IMO, because the rust will just continue under the paint over time. For something bad, I'd just fluid film annually.
F250 guy here! Im about to embark on cleaning and protecting at least the rear frame under bed soon. This was very helpful!
Bit of a random thought, but have you ever considered getting a frame dipped and galvanized? Its common to do here in the UK and will last forever practically.
Sandblasting and powdercoating is more common here, but I don't know of anyone near my area doing galvanizing.
brilliant !! how the hell you remember where all that stuff goes is beyond me. thanks for the vid
Haha figuring out where everything goes is part of the reason I make the video! Thanks for watching!

I had to do it that way on a rusty 1986 frame I scrapped, I think I used a sawzall though. Took forever!

how amazing it would be to be able to do this to my trucks.. love the content man!
Thanks 👍

First! The frame looks great and it won't rust any time soon.

Why is your channel so aweome...
Love what you doing I have a 85 4wd hilux why you have everything off you should do the inside of the frame will last longer
Thanks! The inside will be fluid filmed once it's all back together
Looking good
Thanks 👍

Hope the product was mixed well and not a lot of solids in the bottom of the can.
Good point! I had stirred (not shaken) according to the instructions.

I know the feeling. My lifted 1985 has very stiff leaf springs. I keep some extra weight in the bed to help soften the ride.

@@6thGearGarage makes perfect sense! I'm really enjoying your channel!
I have a 1986 2wd with the 5 lug axle. Is there any disc brake kit for the 5 lug cuz I've had no luck
Your easiest front brake upgrade for your 86 would be to swap 1-ton parts. I showed how to in this video:ua-cam.com/video/3rF7W55DuaQ/v-deo.html

Hi, you can contact me through Instagram or Facebook. Links are at the top of my channel page.
Hi nice work but confused you plated the blue truck now Ur doing the white truck chassie
The Blue truck had the better cab and the white truck had the nicer frame, so I'm going to make one good truck out of the two bad trucks.
@@6thGearGarage enjoying your video I'm confused why you welded the blue ones frame
@@garyclifton2180 I never welded the frame of the blue truck. I only repaired the cab.
Do you guys repair first gen tacoma frames? mine needs some areas patched due to rust. Im in ohio as well
Sorry I just don't have the time to take on any outside projects

I have those brackets.
you need to sandbas
I would if I had one
sorry, this is faaar from being a rusty frame, it has at most some surface rust that some of it even came off when you pressure washed it
