    Wow for me that was out of the blue,the mental health part,I don't know how to start..I have had mental health problems nearly all my life and I am 51..I wouldn't be saying this but I know that the people that live in the small country town would not be watching this,not because it is a bad video IT'S FANTASTIC,but it is all beer and football here.I have seen many experts and have been on lots and still am on medication .I have a wife and 2 adult kids.High achievers ,I am proud.But without rambling on I get up every morning and put on what I call my happy mask.People don't ask.It is killing me and has come close on more than a few occasions.Thank you,What you said was very unexpected ..Cheers..

      THEDRAGONBOOSTER8 Keep fighting the black dog beast of mental health. I’ve been on meds for almost 25yrs and have come close to the edge too, it’s an uphill battle some days just to fall out of bed. I recently changed my diet to an all carnivore lifestyle of eating. I’m not suggesting it works for every one with depression, but it’s helped me and others I know. It’s certainly cleared the fog in my head and helped me lose some kilos too.

      I was just watching the void. and seen your comments. I don't know if my situation is any like yours. I am an Empath I feel other peoples pain and emotions at times. I am 48 years old and have traced this MESS back 37 years. I feel I need to tell you this! Explore the problem, educate yourself ! I am no expert or Doctor im just another dude living with unique problems. It is not out of the realms of possibility that your mental problems are caused by something most doctors don't even realise exists. I wish you the best for you and your family. But never give UP! More about me and my experiences. I have had many phisical injuries and on the other side of the map February 8 2018 I had my most rudest awakening to my situation as I felt my Stepmother die. There are many reasons for mental problems many are spiritual in nature. I hope you read this and I hope it helps. Feel free to reach out if you wanna chat. I can't garentee a quick response or one at all but if I see a reply I will response. God Bless stay stronge and fight for your self being

    I think what you're doing to bring mental health to the surface is brilliant. I suffer from depression, anxiety and social anxieties( they are completely different) and having someone, like my best friend, ask me how I'm doing day to day. It makes a huge difference in my self esteem and how I process things. So to you Mr Chris, Thank you for what you are doing. It means a lot to little ole me.

    Great Video! You do a great job talking about a subject most people are afraid of. People fear the unknown, you are removing some of that unknown. I think you are helping a lot more people than you think you are. Great job! As far as making a living prospecting, I tackle it from a different angle. I sell the gold I find and that money goes straight into a retirement fund. $150 a week is not much, but over 30 or 40 years, its a lot. That's my two cents worth ( that all I found this week). Looking forward to the next video.

Since I live in the US and in a state that has very minimal glacial gold it is not feasible for me, but since I am retired it is not a necessity. Nice video,, Really liked the footage showing the rate at which the Bazooka processed your shovel load... I don't know if that edit was intentional but was cool looking at half speed. I use the Bazooka Mini that fits in my pack and love it. Hats off to you also on the mental subject. for those whom might know someone struggling this hobby is a good way to get them out and also give them an opportunity to open up. Work believe it or not is good for the body and mind. This day in age there are too many kids that have never really been outside to do it and thus suffer from lack of usefulness... God Bless you all and may your pans be full of color.

    • @WhoWouldWantThisName
      @WhoWouldWantThisName 6 років тому

      Yeah, I'd need an average of $100 per day, minimum. Of course one has to consider cost of living in their region. I have no idea how any part of Australia compares to the cost of living in the Seattle-Tacoma area here in the US.
      Speaking of that, I actually started watching videos on prospecting in Australia because I was looking for info on Washington state. That's abbreviated by WA, which also stands for Western Australia. So almost everything I found when looking for mining and prospecting in Washington lead me to Australia. Fortunately it's been fascinating exploring the gold situation there, and it's allowed me to discover some really cool people, such as yourself. I'm really enjoying your videos Chris. You've got a new subscriber.

    3 things.#1 great as always.#2 dogs can be trained to find gold.There will be non believers but some dogs can.every time you get lets say .25g in the pan let the dog smell it.I f the dog starts digging holes where you are digging it is time to pay very close attention.#3 avery cheap tool for scraping bed rock,much better than a shovel.Get about 10 inches 0f 5 inch min. oof exhaust tubing.Weld a piece of light flat iron so it closes of about 3/4 of the tube.Next cut the other end on about 60 degree angle.Weld on about 6 ft of 3/4 pipe.You now have a scoop you can reach into a deep hole and scrape towards yourself.The material stays in the tube.Unlike a shovel that you are pushing away from your self and the material falls off as you lift it out of a deep hole.I find the scoop works great wet or dry material and only costs about 10.00 to make.Try it you will be amazed at how much more you can recover.Luck Mcbain.

    As stated on another of your vids about profiting from this hobby:
    On making A living prospecting/mining in Aus I would say a solid NO: Minimum wage is $812.60 a week or just under 1/3 an ounce a week (at spot price at the time of writing, and its rare to find someone who will buy your finds at spot) then of course you need to remove overheads like fuel, breakage, tooling etc. from that. I think we would all be pretty stoked to find a consistent 1/3 ounce (~10 grams) a week for 10 or even 20 weeks out of a 52 week year.

    Very good video Chris, I hear you about reaching out and what not. Good going Man, I really like the two fluid bed sluices I built.
    Yeah, it's hard to make a living with just a shovel and sluice, You need to move a lot, a LOT! of dirt to make it ha. Like you said a meager living. Construction is already feast or famine enough already. I know where I am there is no way in Hades I would be able to make a living solely on small-scale mining. Maybe, just maybe if I was back home in the Pacific Northwest...

    When I'm not OK the last thing I want to really say is "No I'm not OK". Especially when I've said no so many times or actively told people I'm not OK and not got any help. For me I have to really trust someone to say I'm not OK. Saying your not ok is emotionally expensive. It can open a crack in the dam and once opened the flow can blow the dam. Its a risk saying your not OK. People without any sort of mental illness that truly care might know that intellectually but they don't really know. People asking as a matter of form.....well lets not talk about them.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому

      When we moved to Bendigo I made a huge effort to establish connections with a local church. Volunteered, invited people round for dinner (we are both great cooks), did everything we could. Sarah managed to make some connections but me not so much. Some of the mens health programs that I went to said all the right things but when I was open about our life and the stresses we were under....nada.
      Then things got real. My sons condition worsened and we went from monthly or fortnightly admissions to weekly plus pretty big seizures we managed at home. I went from coping to not. The last of my energy I started to spend on opening up to people. Including the leaders of some of the mental health and mens health programs I was going to. Basically zero response.
      So I stopped trying to reach out and just focussed on keeping on keeping on. Part of that has been my You Tube channel where I'll occasionally vent but also the prospecting and wood working. The tasks of digging,sampling and panning are very calming and seeing the yellow is a great endorphine hit.
      At the moment I'm ok but if things were to get bad again, or rather if I get bad again I don't know that I'd be able to reach out again.
      Which is a worry because it kind of leaves one without options. Having said that you HAVE to try and reach out because the alternatives are not nice.

    Cool videos. Grizzly is quite the companion too. I'm in the western USA, and seeing places on the other side of the world is really fun and interesting. Thanks for sharing what ya know, and keep on having fun. One of the most important thing a person can do, when battling depression is whatever makes them happy, provided it isn't destructive to them or their life. Depression is something many people struggle with, and a hobby they enjoy can really brighten their day. So, the point I'm making is that in addition to asking your friend, neighbor, etc. "Are you ok?" & "How are you really doing, my friend?" could be to invite them along on a day-trip to enjoy your hobby with you. Sure, they might not know a thing about prospecting, but spending time with friends and loved ones is nearly always a moral boost. Be well, and keep the vidz coming. Do me a favor mate, scratch Grizzly's ears for your new friend in Utah??

    Thanks again for another great video Chris, love the cloning, worker Chris and conversational Chris, top stuff. I don't think any of us are ever going to get rich with alluvial, maybe Andrew, but I'm pretty sure he has made a deal with the devil! or is part bloodhound and can smell the stuff. I just sold 15 grams and when you work so hard for it damn it's hard to part with. I don't live off the money though, I just turn it into new gear when my missus is not looking, even if it sits in my PayPal account for a while. A mate and I have tried it, put in full 10-12 hour days, just to see what we could pull off, after a few days straight it gets tiresome at 42yrs old lol, when the fun goes away you might as well be pushing wheelbarrows of bricks in 40 degree heat.
    The limiting factor as well is the 1 cubic metre of material you are legally allowed to move in 48 hours. They say this weekend is going to be a scorcher, hard work one man moving 50 buckets through a sluice, praying there will be enough gold at the end of the day to cover all your living expenses. Now running Parker's plant "Slucifer" cranked at 360 yards per hour on some of the ground you have worked where the $/m³ far outweighs anything they have worked on Gold Rush, that would be interesting!

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому

      Aussie Chris I agree with all that.
      Parker is getting rich off $15/m2. I'm working with $30-50/m2. I'd love a ho and sluice plant for a month

    • @aussiechris9111
      @aussiechris9111 6 років тому +2

      Exactly! just one month lol, the fever though it would set in so bad! "I actually said two months" I dare say I have seen ground hovering between $175-225 per cube, a mate pulled 9 grams in a day with his banker and he is in his late 50's, always wonder what running a 1000 yard test would be like. Keep up with the good work mate, even a gram as a reward is great for the mind,body and soul at the end of the day.

    Hope you get this comment. Catching up on your videos. I'm a disabled American Veteran. I suffer from Combat PTSD. Since 2012 I've left my home for medical appointments or hospital admits for other issues. You're spot on when people ask "how are you"? We automatically say "fine". I try not to do that anymore. I want people to be more aware of mental issues. Here in the US, approximately 22 veterans a day commit suicide. It was almost a daily thought being home bound for so long. Trying and forcing myself to be more social helps. Not hiding my mental state really helps. So, if you know someone has these issues. Ask them straight out how they've been doing. You don't need to know the cause of the trauma. Just be there to listen and even offer a hug. (Mentally or physically) I am trying to get to the point where I can take small groups of Vets out panning for gold or metal detecting. Keep putting out the word. Hope to get to Oz and meet you and Grizzley. Peace Brother Rick aka Division ; 22 IGY6

    Great video Chris. As making a living off mining, as long as you keep your overhead low, it is possible. I had to do it 5 years ago. I would put in 10 hours a day panning. I averaged about $80.00 a week for 5 months.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +2

      William Cline its possible thats for sure. The biggest thing is your perspective of 'living'.
      If you're like me just being in the bush mining, campfire, dog and a good book is enough. But some people need their internet and flat screen, which is fine, it just won't be pleasant for everyone.

    Good afternoon Chris from Georgia USA. I have been going back to watch some of your past videos and I see that you were looking at making a living gold mining. I was wondering do you have a video that shows you actually camping and mining for like 3 or 4 days so you don't have the money out for fuel back and forth to home nor do you have the drive time. Would that push your earnings up on a per day. Just wondering what if. Thanks for the videos and happy hunting Dewey

    You would really have to move a lot of dirt to make ends meet at this great hobby especially if you were dredging but then you'de have to be in a rich paystreak !!!! But that aside it is a great way to supplement your full time income tax free at that or as we say here in the states under the table which is nothing wrong with that !!! Where this hobby really pays off is just being in the great outdoors and soaking up some sun and getting a great workout for the old muscles and breathing in some good ole fresh air and the challenge of finding some yellow stuff well that's just the icing on that proverbial cake so to speak !!! Enjoy watchin your videos and as you say good-day mate !!!

    I would love to go prospecting but to do that it needs to atleast pay for food, fuel and other essientials and that is about 150 a day. But then If I want take it seriously I would need to find an ounce per week and from what I see and have seen myself that that is not possiable except in some spots in West Australia. So it looks like I am going to be having to work harder at my job to earn the money.

    I'll save you twenty minutes. The answer is NO. Not with the laws the way they are, being limited to moving 1 cubic meter of material per 48 hour period, hand tools only, no yabby pumps, no water pumps, no diversion of water, no moving of rocks, etc, etc. NO. But if you're a Chinese mega corporation mining in Australia, heck yeah, because you can do anything you want, blow the place up with explosives, destroy entire water ways, whatever floats your boat. But if you're an Australian citizen, nah. To protect the environment, you see. Same reason you can't use a pump and high banker to deposit material back into your hole, cleanly, letting the water sediment back into the waterway clean. That's harmful to the environment. So instead blow all that material down a river sluice. And yabby pumps? Sheesh! Harmful to the environment as heck! Just smash the bedrock up with a crowbar, that's legal and less harm than sucking gravel up without any damage. Do you KNOW how damaging no damage is? VERY damaging!
