      Fun fact: When they recorded this song they were having difficulties in deciding how to end it. So they all took a break, ran to the pub for a few pints, and when they returned they recorded the album version in one take. As soon as Thom finished the vocals he immediately burst into tears.

      Ikr? "Exit Music (From A Film)" is one of those songs that always ends with tears streaming down my face, no matter how many times I hear it; partly from the classic-yet-universal story and the emotions connected to that, but mostly from the beauty and artistry of the instruments, voice, and composition. It's such a perfect little gem of a song, weirdly simple while still being deep, emotional, and impactful. I like most of Radiohead's songs but I legit LOVE "Exit Music."

    “Ship of Fools” by World Party (1986) this would be in memoriam of Karl Wallinger who passed away a couple weeks ago; World Party is essentially his solo project; he was in The Waterboys; you would have seen him playing keyboards and background vocals on “Whole of the Moon”

    • @ianoo23
      @ianoo23 Місяць тому

      Thats only one verse of the song which ends with it wears him out then the lyrics move on from that- if I had to say what I thought it was about I’d say it’s ultimately about “more and more people pretending to be something they’re not (like plastic trees) and the need and longing for a genuine relationship in a world filled with materialistic shallow self centred, enpty people who are more concerned of their external image than finding anything genuine.

    Thanks Jay and Amber to reacting to my favourite band. If you want more haunting beauty "Street Spirit (Fade out) " should be next on your list. If you want their rock side "Just" will show you their versatility and both have videos as deep as the songs. "Paranoid Android" has beauty and rock and all 3 songs will blow your minds in different ways. You've only scratched the surface of a deep, deep rabbit hole.

    For years, I always thought 99 Luftballons has been my favourite song.... but having finally heard this song again but in a new light, I think Radiohead has pipped Nena to the gold medal.

    One of my favorite songs of theirs, and that’s saying a lot, as they have an insanely great discography… thematically, they are similar to PinkFloyd when it comes to themes of isolation derived from technology, blind consumerism, thoughtless following, etc. “The Bends’ is the 90’s “Wish you were here” and “OkComputer’ is the 90’s “DarkSide of the Moon”

      @@jamesdamiano8894 I'm with you for the most part i'm almost 60 so I kind of got the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and forward. I pretty much was in agreement with you but the first 5 years of the 60s were pretty bad that was my point. I think Radiohead is up there with bands like Pink Floyd, Zepplin and the Beatles they are the last great band of the band era the music industry has changed so much and bands are kind of history.

      @@jameshannagan4256 yeah at least in the 60’s through the 80’s and maybe some 90’s you had consistently good bands and music. Now a days I can’t think of any overall good new bands. Just the holdovers from previous times. You might occasionally get a decent song but that’s about it.

    Something you guys will definitely enjoy: "Lover, You Should've Come Over" by Jeff Buckley (specially the live version). When Radiohead was trying to record "Fake Plastic Trees" in 1994 they were having a hard time with it so they took a break and attended a Jeff Buckley gig in London. Jeff Buckley's vocals left Thom Yorke so stunned that he went back to the studio, recorded a take of the song with nothing but an acoustic guitar and wept afterwards. The band then overdubbed their parts on top of it and that's the version you've just heard.
