The song "You Can't Quit Me Baby" by Queens of the Stone Age has a similar lyric but it's much much more haunting as Thom is singing it out of adoration while Josh is singing it from the perspective of a boy that is traveling to his ex girlfriend's house to kill her.

Yes, and in other ways it's horrifying. It tells you how many hurt and alienated people are out there.
It reaches out to a lot of people, and it's a great and powerful song, but it also tells you how broken our society is that so many people are so hurt and lonely.

I feel like this was an anthem for us weird, angsty, alternative kids in the 90s. I definitely remember identifying heavily with it back then, and I still freaking love this song to this day. A very common song on my playlists. I have to be in the mood to listen to most Radiohead, but there’s no denying they were unique to the music scene in the 90s and influenced many artists who came after them.
The lead singer is Thom Yorke and he also did some solo albums that I remember listening to in the mid-2000s. I think they were more experimental-sounding but I do remember liking some of his solo work.

It relates to those feelings everyone gets , whether it's the deep dark insecurities or just being with someone or being somewhere where you feel like you are out of your depth. We hide it and hope nobody notices then Radiohead came along and it felt like they were singing an anthem just to you about all those secrets you'd kept. Loved it then and love it now.

The grungy choruses were how thing actually are. The fantasy Vs the reality. Then that last section is him reconciling the two. Accepting the reality means he could be equally happy with both things as they actually are AND things as he woud like them to be. Hence the realty sounding just like the fantsy.

This song is kind of an anomaly for Radiohead. It's a pretty straight forward and emotional rocker. It's how most of us were introduced to the band. They have a few hits, but a majority of their music is very dark, nuanced and cerebral. Although they have a very enthusiastic following; their music isn't for everyone - it just hits different. They are considered by many to be the greatest rock bands of their generation.

@@krs181067 Longer even for me and a huge part of my RH fan journey - I fell in love with OK Computer quickly and felt it to be the best album I'd ever heard, period, and they were my new favorite band over any other - and the 90s had a lot of incredible genres and music that took flight and I was in for it all, but nothing touched Ok Computer. Waited 3 desperate years for the follow up, bursting out of my skin, and was so so so thrown off by it it was devastating. I liked Amnesiac more but it wasn't a love affair, and I just ended up going down a blues rabbit hole for 6 years backwards until I was seeking out scratchy records from the 20's. Then in 2007 - by fate - I was flipping through channels and like a miracle truly, turned on at the exact moment it started, the original live airing on PBS of "In Rainbows: From the Basement." I was so checked out on my 'favorite band' I'd missed a whole album in 2003 and the whole free DL "In Rainbows" release...but the concert was so instantly blatantly brilliant, moving, mesmerizing, inspirational - I was absolutely admittedly surprised, in a good way, and shocked that they were still making music at this level, maybe even an even higher level, and unlike most of their best, it takes at least 2 or 3 listens - this hit me so hard I was knocked out of my coma, bough the album, it was amazing, and I began to go back....Hail to the Thief, and eventually Kid A, and realized I did love a handful of songs on it, but always skipped "The National Anthem" and Idioteche - like really? Many albums got this treatment - like I finally 'got' Spinning Plates, it is just why the people who love them do and it is nothing you can force on someone, it has to come naturally as it is such an individual thing.

Radiohead! Alternative rock band in the '90s and '00s. They were influenced from alt rock bands of the '80s and carried on to the '90s. Bass guitars are usually heavy on post-punk/new wave music, which kind of influenced this band too. With heavy distortion on the guitars added.
Happy you gave Radiohead a chance, listen to more of their songs. Good job you two.

I like when she says "that stroke...is when he gets to that dark thought". I can go along with her. Rob mirrors me when I listen to Creep, those aggressive attacks on Jimmy's Stratocaster.
I love that part so much I watched several "how to play Creep" videos, and I don't even play guitar. Just wanted to see it being played since Radiohead doesn't play it any longer.

Prince does a pretty amazing cover as well! Word is Thom wouldn't let Prince scub the Cochella cover from the internet since it was technically theirs lol.

Please, for the love of the wee man his own self, if you want to do more Radiohead you need to do Street Spirit (Fade out). The song is amazing, dark and evocative and the video is outstanding in production and imagery.

You absolutely HAVE to react to the Postmodern Jukebox version featuring Haley Reinhart. It would be a great Female Friday one. You will both be completely blown away.

YES. This was one of your very first videos. I remember that you weren't that impressed by it, and it bummed me out SO much, because I already liked you, and this is one of my favorite songs/performances EVER. Back on your one year anniversary, I did even suggest you go back to some of your earliest songs, and re-listen with your new appreciation. and THIS was the one I hoped that you'd do, if you followed that suggestion. Because I KNEW you would LOVE it this time. This was SO satisfying, because I said that I KNEW you'd love it if you tried it again

When I was 16, this song kept me going. The angst of limerence... of loving someone you believe you can’t have. It is impossible to articulate, especially at a young age. Radiohead have always found a way to convey the most subtle things. I know the popularity of this song became a thorn in the side of it’s creators, but I think Radiohead understand the human condition and musical expression. That’s why I love them. ❤

    Jay
    Damn right it’s FIRE!!!
    That’s Radiohead’s classic that 1st got EVERYONE’S attention!!
    This song is ICONIC!!
It hits on so many levels!!
The lyric expresses what so many can relate to ..
The feeling of not being enough ..
    Cool enough
    Pretty enough
    Sophisticated enough …
    Then there’s the band …
One of the best bands of the last 25 years … each player excels in his own right!!
    Then there’s Thom …
The voice of an Angel who is able to sing in so many different ways… and he’s such a prolific performer who totally expresses the feeling of the outsider …
Put it all together and you have the phenomenal band that is Radiohead!
This song is so awesome that Prince covered it!
    Nuff said! 🥰

I've got to agree with this comment. Radiohead is completely worthy of a deep dive into their intensely personal catalog, but I am somewhat amazed that someone has not pointed you in the direction of PMJ and Haley Reinhart's equally intense and personal take on this work of musical art. So I'll gladly do the pointing: ua-cam.com/video/m3lF2qEA2cw/v-deo.html

As others have said before me, I am so stoked that you've revisited this song. Now that your ears are more attuned to various sounds, there's a better appreciation of what they do. Next one to listen to HAS to be Fake Plastic Trees. Hands down my fave Radiohead tune. Thom's voice on that is so delicate and amazing.

So glad you've finally introduced Amber to Radiohead! And as others have said, it was perfect to introduce her to "Creep", not only because Jay had already reacted to it, but because it is their biggest hit of all time. The next Radiohead recommendations from me are "Paranoid Android" and "Karma Police".

They are all profoundly gifted musicians.. if you listen to all of their music many times over.. you start to see just how way beyond their time they are. This song was their debut song and was the most "radio" quality so their label put this one out to catch the public's attention. Thom wrote the song, and didn't want to sing it, Jonny hated this song and that's why he smashed his guitar while playing.. and it sounds so amazing! They didn't play it live for many years and only rarely do. The live performances of all their songs are the best. They sound fabulous in studio but they are even better live!! Great reaction!!
