The Bends is an underrated masterpiece; not as well-received by critics or loved by fans as OK Computer, Kid A or even In Rainbows but it's probably my favourite album of theirs...just! (No pun intended! 😁)
The Bends is far and away my favorite Radiohead album. It was a huge evolution from the first album but not as electronic and experimental as everything after it, which can be hit or miss for me. I like every track on The Bends.
You’ve found Radiohead’s music from their record The Bends. You must, must, must listen to “Just”. A very different tone and an intriguing thought provoking video. Radiohead is very ‘ artsy’ Amber and they put enormous effort into making an incredible package for the MTV video age. Acoustically and visually they were something new in the post grunge mid-90’s. Songs you should react to (beyond ‘Just’)… Fake Plastic Trees, My Iron Lung, Bulletproof…I wish I was, Street Spirit Fade Out. Amazing tracks on this record. You can begin to hear the sonic threads of musical experimentation that wove more closely on their 1997 record ‘OK Computer’ and became whole cloth with the ‘Kid A’ , ‘Amnesiac’ records and their subsequent musically adventurous work through the 2000’s to the present. These guys from Oxford are truly one of last “bands that mattered” in the alternative/rock world!
*Fake Plastic Trees* is another great one with a similar vibe as this. *My Iron Lung* is one of my faves that is similar to the rockout style of Creep.
And live they're on another level! Live from the Basement: Where I end and you begin & Weird Fishes, or Live from Glastonbury: There There (with 4 of them on drums, before they added a 2nd drummer to their tours).
Radiohead's has so many great songs. You've gotta check out "Karma Police" and "Paranoid Android". "Fake Plastic Trees" is also really good, and "Just" is one of the coolest videos ever.
You guys are both beautiful and we're fortunate to hang out with you. I love that you are listening to early Radiohead, when they are so young. You get to see them and hear them like we did, and your reactions are genuinely similar to mine (and my friends). I'm on pins and needles waiting for you to explore more. This band really deserves to be heard Album by Album, and I know you don't do whole albums, but it's really a shame. Someday, promise yourselves that you will go back and listen to them all. Each song is a work of art. A Great band.
I asked for "Just" after their last Radiohead video and I think it was the top thumbs up comment. I have no idea why they chose this one as I don't recall a lot of requests and I think it is terribly weak compared to many of their other songs. They had to struggle to find reasons to like it. It was a painful video to watch.
So many great songs. Highly recommend: Fake Plastic Trees, Street Spirit(Fade Out), Let Down, Paranoid Android, Lucky. Love your channel, Love you guys. ❤
"Exit Music for a Film" will rip your heart out, if you know your Romeo and Juliet. Trust me. English teachers should make it required listening. In the 1980s, when I was in college, I had a music professor ask me "what music of today will still be around in 200 years?" I have a few different answers to that question, but just about the top of my list is Radiohead - which came along many years later, of course. "High and Dry" is an early Radiohead song, like listening to Beethoven's first piano concerto, or Wagner's first opera. Things get really deep, really fast, in their subsequent albums and songs. I think "Exit Music for a Film" will give you precisely that depth, but in an accessible way.
The Bends was where Radiohead made the quantum leap from one-hit-wonders, to one of the most influential bands of all-time. The album is a masterpiece.
@@barryevans791 They definitely didn't get worse, but they also stopped making straightforward Rock albums after this. The Bends is one of the best Rock albums of the 90s. Radiohead arguably made more "important" music later, but in what I would consider to be genres other than Rock. (Experimental? Electro-acoustic?)
@@Johnny_Socko OK Computer was still rock, they only got experimental on Kid A and started having rock songs again following Amnesiac. Hail to the theif was straight rock again. I would say King of Limbs is probably my favourite album of theirs. The Bends was good for the time but hasn't aged as well as their other albums imo.
"Creep" got all the attention and airplay but this was one of my early favourites from Radiohead (along with "Fake Plastic Trees") and was on my regular playlist throughout the late '90s/early 2000s. A great track, and another good reaction review!
I knew " Creep " and other songs from Radiohead but This is the first time I´ve heard this song and you guys weren´t wrong , this is a nice song. Keep up with the good music , you guys are the best.
When my nephew was a little kid, we used to put him to sleep by playing Radiohead. Now he's in his 20s and about to become a dad. Good memories attached to this group.
If you want to hear a different side of Radiohead, go to one of their 2000s songs like Idioteque, How to Dissappear Completely, or Jigsaw falling into place
This is a great song. Radiohead were like Gods for a minute, worshipped, cause of songs like this. Have you done Karma Police? I freakin love that song 😊
Such a unique and talented band. THE BENDS is an incredible album from start to finish. Thom York has such a special voice, so easily recognizable. Deep is an excellent word to describe their music.
I don’t love every song but there’s at least a couple of songs on every album that I do love, love, love. Radiohead - Airbag Radiohead - There There Radiohead - Go To Sleep Radiohead - Everything In Its Right Place Radiohead - [Nice Dream]
More Radiohead, they are so good. Many of these suggestions are great. I covered this song on my channel too, Jamie Cullum's version. I really like There there, exit music, How to disappear completely, Paranoid Android,... there are so many great ones.
Next to check out: Subterranean Homesick Alien, Karma Police, Paranoid Android, End Music (For a Film) *This song is played during the closing credits to WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET which I passionately suggest you consider watching and the soundtrack is killer!! Love y'all - keep smiling and Happy Holidays!
Awesome to see you dip into a band like no other. Their styles are so diverse, evolving and experimenting over 30 years. 5 of 9 albums have appeared on the Rolling Stone top 500, taken with a grain of salt of course, but still a testament to what kind of band they are. I'd love to see you react to something later into their career, "House of Cards" off one their 3 massive historic albums, "In Rainbows" (the other 2 being "OK Computer" and Kid A" - all of which sound SO different but are the genuine article, master works.) They have fantastic music videos, but the very best way to experience them is via the "Live From the Basement" sessions which seem to not get blocked, and really capture the band at their height. Thanks! Peace//
I can't say enough how amazing Radiohead are all the way through their catalogue. Every album is different and unique and offers a different experience from the one before it. Truly musical geniuses. And Thom Yorke's voice is just magic! Karma Police, Weird Fishes, Lotus flower, Jigsaw falling into place, National Anthem, the Gloaming, Stand up sit down etc etc etc
I believe this was the first single from The Bends. creep was the only song I got into from Pablo Honey, so this was the second song I immediately enjoyed. The rest of the album blew me away!
I can't wait to watch Amber rock out to Paranoid Android. I agree with the suggestion that you should follow Radiohead chronologically. Its like watching a seed grow into one of the most incredible trees with a canopy that extends into a huge expanse of talent, creativity and skill. One of my all time favorite bands. Much love to you two and the family.
This song is from "The Bends," when they were still playing somewhat mainstream music. It is a great album, with, "Fake Plastic Trees," being my favorite track. You should try something completely different from them though, like "Lotus Flower." A great song too, but you'll be shocked by how different it is from what you've heard from them so far.
Haven't thought about this song in forever and this video is completely different than the one they always played on MTV. The one I remember was like a mini Guy Ritchie or Quentin Tarantino movie. There's like robbers making an exchange, a shady business guy who has some important documents in a briefcase. The diners and staff start singing different parts of the song. It's really good but I couldn't find a good copy on UA-cam just now.
So happy you guys returned to Radiohead. I cannot express how many solid albums this band has put out. It’s def a rabbit hole of a journey. Not everything they do is easy to listen at first but they have so many layers to explore. So far y’all have touched on the slower paced 90s stuff. I would recommend their rock guitar driven stuff next. Then their progressive experimental era. Ditto to those who already recommended: Just (official video), Paranoid Android (live at Jools Holland) next. Another thing to mention is this band is amazing live!
Radiohead are LEGENDS here in the UK, stunningly creative and this song is far more representative of their music than Creep ever was, the band actually hate that song. To keep seeing the very best of them check out Fake Plastic Trees, The Bennds, Just, No Surprises and definitely Paranoid Android, a real favourite of mine. Thom Yorke (vox) and Johnny Greenwood (guitar) are musical geniuses, no question.

By far, my favorite Radiohead song. So delicate and meaningful. What a band…. Totally changed the tone of music that clearly inspired other bands to follow.
you MUST keep venturing down this path. radiohead is one of the most influential bands of their time. they paved the way for so many great bands. i don't think you've guys have heard anything from their album in rainbows, and you must. i'd recommended "jigsaw falling into place", "weird fishes/arpeggi", "reckoner", and "nude"
Check out RADIOHEAD “JUST” for J! Definitely do the video for it too! Crazy! If his favorite is Creep, Just will be a great rocking contender to knock it off top spot and has an awesome solo
Radiohead is hands down one of the greatest bands of all time. Can’t wait to hear you guys do more of The Bends/OK Computer as well as their later stuff cause lets just say…they definitely changed up styles
Radiohead have been my favourite band for 30 years. This is a good song but it’s gets far better from them. You have so much to discover. They get far more musically complex and beautiful, they cover electronica, jazz and more experimental, orchestral rock but always retain beauty and song structure. Maybe do ‘Just’ for an absolute rock banger, or to get a bit deeper try ‘Paranoid Android’ next. Fake Plastic Trees is also another fairly accessible song but is absolutely gorgeous and gives you goosebumps.
One of my favorite music videos for Radiohead is for their song "Just". It reminds me of an episode of The Twilight Zone and the opening scenes from Stephen King's "The Stand" miniseries.
My fave Radiohead album by far. But I'm here to start a campaign for Amber and Jay to do JANE'S ADDICTION. I searched and stunned they haven't done Jane's Addiction yet. The true gods of bringing alternative rock and a new shock effect to rock music. Perry Farrell creator of Lollapalooza and Nothings Shocking album is a classic. How about official video for MOJNTAIN SONG or OCEAN SIZE? And no being "done with Sergio." Haha. We know thet overplayed one so let's get on board to have Jay and Amber do some Jane's Addiction. 🤘
radiohead is one of the best band that existed (Led Zep fan here). Radiohead could have chosen confort but their were an experimental group and as the same time, they had huge success, a success they really never wanted that much. They even missed the hall of fame title for best rock bands (they sent one member maybe) All movies late 90's or 2000's wanted radiohead. Check vanilly Sky for instance or Lucky but the list is so long. There are simply unique and they did what a legendary band should do. They brought something new like greats before them did. A band like radiohead, you get one in two decades and i'm nice here. Muse worth the listening too.
react to Iron Lung next. its one of my favorites by Radiohead. By the way I'm also from Oklahoma and have not missed a video on this channel since day one.

Check vanilly Sky for instance or Lucky but the list is so long. There are simply unique and they did what a legendary band should do. They brought something new like greats before them did. A band like radiohead, you get one in two decades and i'm nice here. Muse worth the listening too.
Still one of my all time favorites by Radiohead. This one and Just!
Endlessly creative, unique, and challenging, Radiohead has kept me on my toes for a good, long time. Thanks for the upload.
Incredible song!
