Easy Steps also I have a 2004 g500, is it normal when driving slow speeds on the road to have steering wheel not go back in center, not sure if this is normal. High speeds I can feel it nice and loose but slow speeds the steering is slightly rough and doesn’t return back to center like a normal car
Thank you very much for your advice. I had a complete wheel failure and i used your method to replace 4 broken studs today. I ran through each broken stud with a 3.5 mm pilot hole and then drilled the final hole with a 6 mm drill bit. I used a smaller gauge easy out. I followed the rest of your instructions to the T and completed the job with great success. Thanks also to the AA for an excellent recovery.
You're an angel man ❤ Thank you so much, I've been stuck with this issue for so long 😅 Everyone tells me to drill it out but I never wanted to mess it up so this how-to was exactly what i needed ❤
Next time, try using a left-hand drill. You may have to go to an industrial supply catalog to find left-hand drills. When using the left-hand drill, the broken bolt may just unscrew itself by the drilling process.
Left-hand drill bits are also available from Amazon; they are made by Irwin and sold in a set. They also come included in some extractor sets. Although LH bits alone can release broken bolts, I wouldn't bet on it happening very often. When trying to remove broken lug nuts like these, it helps to tap the threaded portion smartly with a ball-peen hammer several times and put a few drops of penetrating oil on the threads. When drilling, use a drill bit at least 50% of the diameter of the bolt and to drill down about 1/2" or more before tapping the extractor into the hole. Extractors work on the wedging principle; the deeper in you go, the better it grips. It may also need to use heat to loosen the threaded portion (i.e., the area immediately around the broken bolt, not the bolt itself), should they exhibit "reluctance" when attempting removal. It pays to have a Plan B and even a Plan C when attempting this procedure; they don't always release as easily as these did. Working slowly and carefully, however, will increase your chances of success.
I’ve learned a lot from this. Thanks. What if a lug bolt is not broken off in there but it is stripped inside and the lug bolt won’t stay in place and keeps slipping out?
Mine were overtightened by tire shop. Broke a stud taking off lug bolt. Vice grips didn't work. This drill & extractor method didn't work at all. Was WAY TOO stuck in there. Took me many days of f^*(&$ with the damn thing and many drill bits ruined. Finally drilled it out close to edge and tried to retap the threads - new Lug would not grip in weakend threads - had to replace the whole hub - total PITA. Just know - this video show best case scenario.

Very informative .trying this tomorrow on my car.one of my car tyre bolt has become round .and the bolt size is same as u have show in video can I use this technique
You can use a RH drill bit, but you get better results with a LH (left-hand) drill bit. That starts the process in the right direction, rather than jamming the broken lug nut further into the threads. I have an extractor set (#1-#5) that came with left-handed cobalt drill bits, so I already have those on hand. Other UA-cam videos have recommended LH drill bits for this job, as well. In some cases, the LH drill bit will back out a broken bolt, but I don't believe that will happen here; the extractor (easy-out) will then be needed once you've got the hole drilled. I also have a set of square, tapered extractors that are plain (no "swirling" along their length). I think these are better yet, as they have four sharp edges that bite into the lug nut before turning. However, either style should work.

After attempting to do this on my Benz, I found that because the threads are on the hub and not on the rotor, if the rotor is being removed the broken lug can be screwed right out by hand 😉
Slowly, slowly... Then revs drill to max! For anyone watching that is gonna DIY- use lubricant on the drill bit and its not about speed but pressure (ie how much material you are shaving off). Less is more because if you break a hardened bit off in there your DIY just became how to replace a wheel hub. Otherwise great quick video of the right way to do it. Plus take you rotor off!!! if possible. And use the right wrench! or at least the wrench in your hand the right way! LoL
You appear to be replacing the OEM semi-circular profile wheel bolts with taper profile wheel bolts ? This is dangerous, as the taper profile will damage the alloy wheel, and WILL NOT seat correctly - all of the load will be bearing on the small area where the taper meets the bottom of the cup.

Hi, thanks for the video, you make it look easy but it's not, i have tried different drill bits to make a small hole in the stuck stud before using the drill removal bit, no chance, it wouldn't buldge. What drill bits did you use?
THE NEW BOLTS HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT CONE! On the old one it's a rounded cone, and of course the cone in your rims is rounded. The straight cone comes with the new bolts doesn't fit in your Mercedes rims!
Very well done however I have a Toyota Sienna & 4 broken lug nuts that don’t screw into threaded holes. Mine are inserted & seated from behind the hub.

What is the diameter of the screw and what is the diameter of the drill bit?

My nail bent from hammering it in the center of the lug bolt and my Titanium bit broke at the tip. I am going to add some heat first because my lug bolts are of steal or harder metal.
Sir I need help
