These guys have gotten lighter and lighter the more they've released their albums. The spiritual transformation of this group is one of the most beautiful things I see in this band and I find it to be the most overlooked quality of them. Keep being the salvation and a light for the world.
Thanks ! We shot on the RED DRAGON with Xeen cine lenses. They're pretty sharp. www.westwebbdp.com is my website where you can see more work. The director and I also did the latest Earthside video & Giles video.
Michael's voice, the band and the transition between Djent and Shoegaze are what makes this song to be so special in many levels Believe it or not, it does have a slightly touch of Shoegaze. Astonishing!
Can't express how good this is ! The Contortionist really is one of these few bands who manages to mix subtility and technical music in the best way possible. Really curious to see how this album will compete with Language which already is an absolute masterpiece. Never felt that hyped since years !
dude! i picked up The Other Side MMXV off bandcamp and have been killing it constantly for the past few weeks (SO GOOD), i love your music! and i love The Contortionist!!!
Djently Funkt I totally agree dude, They just up the game before anyone else. They remind me of like Between The buried and Me's little brother. Just a little nerdier haha
Not enough to overcome the fact that The Contortionist has been domesticated like my indoor cats. Not really all that progressive. i rather be dead than get caught with this jiggly puff mellow fail playing in my car stereo 😎
When I found the point of life It came creeping towards me In the shape of I It was all this re imagined It was a different kind of speech It was repetition It was What you want it to be When I saw the shape of sound Everything came spiraling It was all this re imagined It was a different kind of speech It was repitition It was What you want it to be All comfort escapes me Breathe Breathe in Once you've found the breathe you lost Breathe again Breathe Breathe in Once you've found the breathe you lost Breathe again It was all this re imagined It was a different kind of speech It was repitition Breathe And I am exactly what you imagined me to be
I think he says "all this re imagined", not "august". also that quiet bit, he says "all comfort escapes me" which is a cool little allusion to some lyrics from Intrinsic that Jonothan sang
Theres a particular scene I love in this video, starts at around 2:23 and ends at like 2:37. The way the camera pans to the right and then back to the left, the lighting, them just rocking out with their instruments, suits that instrumental part so well.
I was so iffy when John left, I wasn't sure if there was anyone who could fit in with such an amazing band. I've been so pleased with what they've been putting out, to the point I go into a complete Zen mode when I listen to them.
The magic of The Contortionist is that it gets better the more you listen to it. It took me at least a few listens to fully appreciate Language for the masterpiece it is, I expect nothing less of this album.
What's great is that Contortionist listeners hear this and know it's epic, instead of sobbing about any so-called "changes in sound or direction." Great tune, can't wait for the album and tour!
This is probably the most straight forward song I've ever heard from you guys and it's incredible from just first listen. I'm way too excited to get my hands on the new CD!!!
There is an interview with Robby and Mike where they talk about making and approaching music as they get older towards what sound they just like and fits well with them. They talk about maturing as a band and going in a direction they like. This band is amazing.
very rarely am i captivated by almost ever song a band writes. yall truly have found that secret place where magic happens. all i could ever ask is that you never sell out or compromise for money or fame. you are loved for who yall already are
One of the joys of listening to The Contortionist is that they project their combined creativity a focused and clear way. They don't try to use gimmicks or conform to a mold. This band knows exactly who they are, and they invite everyone to try to figure it out.
I know Mike likes to add in layered screams with his cleans but I think I hear a really sick “breathe again” right after the bridge and before the solo at 2:20
Watching this band with every release is amazed at how they continue to progress away from the generic bands and create awesome material like this. Love it.
Being a fellow musician from Indiana, back in 2010 when I recorded my first album, Cameron, Jonathan and Chris came into the studio with me and helped me with some solo lines. I had been a huge fan of theirs for 2 years and they were the best local band we had. Their style EVEN THEN shaped how I thought music SHOULD be. I remember having a conversation with Cameron in the back of the studio while they smoked about a tour they had just done in Canada with a little known band called Last chance to reason... Cameron asked if I had ever heard them and said I should check them out. Its amazing how they had their eyes on Michael all the way back then and how TC has flourished into everything and more they imagined they could be. Great dudes and have always been an inspiration!
This song and video give me chills. Each member brings something so special to this band. This is music that truly touches the heart. I love Robby’s beautiful guitar in this video as well.
Once I got over the initial surprise at the contrast, it really grew on me. I'm stoked/painfully interested to hear more of this album. I know these guys can do no wrong. I M R E A D Y
Im a country boy but i live in the city now. We used to ride in my grandpas international trackers. We would have to blow the engine room out every morning, because we were cutting milo.. lol if you know about that milo dust then... you know. All the deer, hog, turkey, and dove hunting we did out there... the whole family and i mean whole family would gather.. i asked my grandpa when he was gonna retire.. he simply said " when i die son." He finally retired when he turned 89. My aunts and uncles kept half of the land to keep the farm land with our family!! Boy i sure do miss the ol contry. Mr. Johnson.... what a wonderful masterpiece. Thank you sir!!
The music is so beautiful, emotional and powerful. This band was always on my radar but when Lessard joined and they made Language the album it completely blew me away; a brilliant and genius masterpiece, and now this. I can't wait to see them in Houston in about a week.
I love how they used simlplicity in this one, but they use it wonderfully well. And i know a lot of people will say they "sell ou" or this is "too simple. But making a very simple song that resonates, is true artistry. Changing, doing complex and simple stuff when needed, that is true artistry. This is true art.

From Exoplanet through to Language to now this band just never ceases to amaze. Last night they played an incredible set, same as they did with Periphery the other week and the same as they did last year with Tesseract. This band deserves to be at the forefront of prog/tech and god damn I swear this album will do it.
Im all for concept albums, and as far as they go, i think that language was a masterpiece. too good in fact: i had a hard time listening to the songs individually. like, it was either all of the album or nothing. now this. this song. ive listened to it over 30 times and i love it. im hoping this album stays conceptual but keeps the songs like this: strong enough to stand on their own. for me anyways! gotta love this band regardless.
These guys have worked so incredibly hard on their craft. Endless writing, endless touring, and all the exhaustion that goes with it. I really appreciate all they put into their art, this is art. This is progression...evolution of a band. Keep doing what you're doing guys. You're doing it right!
Oh man, this is everything I hoped for in a new Contortionist track and more. You guys blew me away at the Netherlands gig and it looks like it's only gonna get better in the future. Congrats guys, you're changing the game in a big way
Discovered this group a few years ago, when they were still "thrashing" around, and I loved them. This "new" stuff, however, makes my heart open up. Hope they keep doing this kind of music.
I love all of The Contorionist's music and I think it's very interesting that even with constant changes in the vocal department everything feels canon still, like the actual music is guiding each album and the vocals are a variable. Every vocalist has had this ethereal tone to their singing and its beautiful.
"Just to give some perspective. Mike wrote and arranged this song. It's very much his style to write poppier rock stuff recreationally. The guys obviously played on the song but this one is basically all Mike's baby." From Chris ( LCTR )
2:23 when the guitar comes in, is there a voice screaming in pain in the back or is just my imagination ? That's how it feels anyway everytime I hear it.
I saw them live in Cleveland a few years ago. I've never seen someone so emotionally invested in and simultaneously moved by their own music as Michael Lessard.
Been listening since their first album and seem them live so many times. These guys have changed the whole metal scene and no-one knows it. Such unique sound and they sound beautiful live. If they come to your city GO SEE THEM.
Wow...just..wow. This is some incredible art right here. One of the few bands where no matter what their sound evolves into I am absolutely never disappointed. Just amazing as always and only gets better the more you listen to it.
Not every song has to have complex instrumental parts for it to have value. Sonically and musically, this song is very interesting even without crazy parts. It's extremely powerful. I encourage you to try and be open to it and to also not judge an entire album that is 3 months away based on one 3 minute song when we all know this band is more than capable of writing virtuosic, heavy music.
When one realises that the universal consciousness "Brahman", is the individual consciousness "Atman", realization takes place. It's said, in ancient Indian scripture, that at first there was nothing. Then a creative force, "sat" acted on the world and manifested itself, as something, and the universe was created. Often, the birth of the universe is also metaphorically described with the sound "aum", as it was the first sound of this created universe. This of course, stems from a system in Indian philosophy, and represents a belief-system. But one can read the lyrics, in that light. It's almost as if the Brahman and Atman are in conversation. It's a beautiful song. Thank you, The Contortionist, for making my days brighter.
this song just hits me in some kind of way that's hard to explain. it pulls up deep emotions out of me that's buried way way in underneath. thanks for creating this
These guys have gotten lighter and lighter the more they've released their albums. The spiritual transformation of this group is one of the most beautiful things I see in this band and I find it to be the most overlooked quality of them. Keep being the salvation and a light for the world.
You are right my friend.
Jared Tuitel You are so right!!! I'm glad someone noticed this.
They're actually getting heavier if you think about it tho 😉
yeah i honestly prefer their lighter shit
Now thats how you reimagine something like a boss
Right on broskie
Nik noc
God, only the most quality comments from you Nik
Omg!! Yess!
@@chrismegusta just realized this was not reimagined that this comment was 6 years ago 😮
One of the most relevant bands on the prog scene at the moment, in my opinion. Their sound is fabulous.
Totally agree!
"One of the most relevant bands at the moment, in my opinion. Their sound is fabulous."
Dude great Name and great Avatar!
Nice fix ;)
they've been relevant since like 2009
"It was repetition" I whisper as I hit play again...
You're not the only one. :)
Lol, brilliant.
Well, you know what they say... Repetition legitimises
@@joellarsson6573 Adam? Is that you?
ahhh clever girl :D
The cinematography in this is so fitting. My boss just asked why I've been listening to the same song all morning.
Matthew Kocanda I've been listening to this song on repeat all day. It hits all the emotions bro
Completly agree! The cinematography perfectly fits the song and and Michael's body language is mesmerizing, especially the shots in the dark.
Matthew Kocanda tell your boss... It was just repetition ;)
Thanks ! We shot on the RED DRAGON with Xeen cine lenses. They're pretty sharp. www.westwebbdp.com is my website where you can see more work. The director and I also did the latest Earthside video & Giles video.
same here! haha
Michael's voice, the band and the transition between Djent and Shoegaze are what makes this song to be so special in many levels
Believe it or not, it does have a slightly touch of Shoegaze. Astonishing!
Haters gonna hate.
Contortionists gonna contort.
+JohnuelHasney agreed. +Casey69ism go to hell dude seriously
People unhappy with their own lives taking it out on someone else. Only those with hate in their hate put it out into the world.
Soniq Armada - 700 Miles and Amaranthe - The Nexus brought me here. Strange combination of bands.
Word!
sorry for your troubles dude. casey69ism
This band
Can't express how good this is ! The Contortionist really is one of these few bands who manages to mix subtility and technical music in the best way possible. Really curious to see how this album will compete with Language which already is an absolute masterpiece. Never felt that hyped since years !
Your sir have good musical tastes, this explains your awesome music ;)
Thanks man haha
Thessa! Great to see you here, you make great music :)
dude! i picked up The Other Side MMXV off bandcamp and have been killing it constantly for the past few weeks (SO GOOD), i love your music! and i love The Contortionist!!!
chaser I'm glad you like it thank you for the kind words !
I REALLY wish this song was longer. It's such a short experience. An extended edition would be great.
The Contortionist are steps ahead of the game.
Djently Funkt yeah making pop music to get popular, real creative
Casey69ism, apparently you cannot hear all the subtle magic being put into this music. I don't blame you for that opinion.
Djently Funkt try their dogs were astronauts from austria.
Djently Funkt I totally agree dude, They just up the game before anyone else. They remind me of like Between The buried and Me's little brother. Just a little nerdier haha
Djently Funkt i might be wrong but imo karnivool has done quite similar thing years earlier
This is the progression that I expected out of all the "djent" bands, but these guys are one of the only ones doing it right.
Yeah, compared to the Radio Disney trash that Periphery has become. It's such a damn shame. If you're going to "tone down" *this* is how you do it.
Yea absolutely. I hope there's more to come.
Not enough to overcome the fact that The Contortionist has been domesticated like my indoor cats. Not really all that progressive. i rather be dead than get caught with this jiggly puff mellow fail playing in my car stereo 😎
Leprous is another nice example :3
And VOLA too...
I can't wait for Reimagined (Reimagined), which will be a heavy prog-deathcore version of this
Ahahahaha. Also looking forward to Born Of Osiris's acoustic re-recording of their 2011 album, The Discovery Rediscovered.
Is that really going to be a thing? lol Id be all over that
@chaser
I cant wait for reimagined (reimagined(rediscovered(reimagined))) Mark II part 12: unimagined
@BuyMeAKoala i guess, not, i'm just having fun with the names, but it would be hilarious.
I'm so glad Mike Lessard is the singer of this band!!!! These guys were made to play together and make wonderful melodies!
Jesus Christ This is So Good. I feel my heart gushing from Michael's vocals here my GOD I cannot wait for this album.
I'm here to say this song is helping me through one hell of a rough patch in life right now.
When I found the point of life
It came creeping towards me
In the shape of I
It was all this re imagined
It was a different kind of speech
It was repetition
It was
What you want it to be
When I saw the shape of sound
Everything came spiraling
It was all this re imagined
It was a different kind of speech
It was repitition
It was
What you want it to be
All comfort escapes me
Breathe
Breathe in
Once you've found the breathe you lost
Breathe again
Breathe
Breathe in
Once you've found the breathe you lost
Breathe again
It was all this re imagined
It was a different kind of speech
It was repitition
Breathe
And I am exactly what you imagined me to be

I think he says "all this re imagined", not "august". also that quiet bit, he says "all comfort escapes me" which is a cool little allusion to some lyrics from Intrinsic that Jonothan sang
thanks for the help!!
Also, when he says "in the shape of vine" he's actually saying "in the shape of eyes"
There's a lot of stuff that seems to come directly from Causality! That's awesome!
Listening to this song when you're baked makes it 10 times more emotional
Try shrooms. Life's a million times better with the little souls.

This song kinda sounds like something Chevelle would make. The way his voice sounds in the verses really sounds like them

Its beautiful, Great bass too! Love TC Karnivool and Skyharbor they do it Djently.
This song should continue forever
Amazing, as always.

These guys are just too good. Every layer of music is perfect.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! Reimagined is simple but the song arrangement is mindblowing!
I loved The Contortionist then and love The Contortionist now. Incredible song.
The obvious references to the previous album in both the video and the music itself are amazing.
I'm counting the days until the new album drops.
reminds me Karnivool. Well beautiful track!
same!
Only Karnivool evolved from shallow to deep.

Again The Contortionist continue to push the boundaries of progressive music. Indiana native homies FTW
No boundaries are pushed in this song.

The Rod from Propagandhi got me here. ABSOLUTELY brilliant!
Not many prog bands could pull off a basic pop song structure like this and make it enjoyable for any music fan

2:23 when the guitar comes in, is there a voice screaming in pain in the back or is just my imagination ? That's how it feels anyway everytime I hear it.
Maybe filler distortion
Michael layers screams subtlety so probably!
Thanks The Contortionist, you guys are showing me a new meaning for being alive.
