I'm all for harsh vocals but this band really doesn't need them at this point. I'm looking forward to this direction.
Brady Hargett agreed. I think their style is better with no harsh vocals but I'm hoping they get some heavy guitars and drumming in there. It doesn't have to be a lot but having some of the heaviness at the right time is what made Language so fucking amazing.
I too dig the lush soft vocal melody's, and have always wanted bands like this, think Pelican with vocals right?? I love this sound.

Language was a good trip, the type filled with positive spiritual growth and love for all things nature- the whole underlying theme of transcendence and the approaching singularity; everything is connected. That's what I got from Language anyhow. Clairvoyant might be going down the slightly darker path of existentialism, and you can see it through the subtle hints in their video for Reimagined. The lyrics as well as the visual cues seem to depict a group of musicians blasting into the the 11th dimension, and one or two of them isn't having a great time, lol. In the end it's still spiritual growth, because you can't get the positive without facing the negative. Although this may just be me reading into things too much, haha. TC is my island band!!!!

A nicely stated analysis. For Elkin: Traditionally a day for a spiritual practitioner is divided into two parts: Sun-up is a time for activity; putting plans in motion and bringing what's inside out. Sun-down is for meditation and self-reflection; to help facilitate the integration of the days' events into some kind of meaningful context. I think Starblazer feels that the energy of Language corresponds with sun-up activity, while this new album will most likely be for quiet and contemplative times. I love all of TC's works (including the first two albums), and I find it interesting that they attract such sensitive and thoughtful people. I feel this band has a very bright future.
The culinary musicality of these beat chefs has me eating up their tasty grooves. Can't wait for the new album... Nom nom nom 😋

Lots of hate on this album already, but it's only a small piece to the big picture that Clairvoyant is. Wait until the full masterpiece is release to criticise it, for now just enjoy this gorgeous piece of the puzzle.
Everything about this band is amazing.
The evolution from Exoplanet to this is incredible and yet each album connects stylistically to the next so well. This is not a band that has reinvented themselves, they've been heading this direction the whole time.
I literally can not stop listening to this masterpiece. The ending, they fucking did it again.

I absolutely love the direction The Contortionist is going. Ever since Mike Lessard became the new vocalist they became immediately more listenable for me. This album is gonna kill!

I love this band so much... Everything just mends together to make such a hypnotic sound.
So far I'm missing the deathcore element but this still feels like The Contortionist's natural evolution as a band. I don't think this album is going to be able to compete with Language, but it'll probably be different enough that it'll still stand alone as a great album. I don't even care about it being 'metal' anymore, this is just really creative and something I don't think we'll get from any other band.
Grow the fuck up. Their deathcore material sounded like music for kids that was played by a group of kids. The songs on _Clairvoyant_ are some of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created. It's easily the best thing they've released. Only true music lovers are able to appreciate a masterpiece like this.
Since you posted your comment, I hope you've been able to outgrow your "it needs to be heavy to be considered good music" phase. Music doesn't need any ounce of heaviness to be well written and hauntingly beautiful. This album is proof.

3:54 is the purest secretion of the contortionist. that riff is them embodying, to the fullest, of what they are.
I swear, Contortionist fans are some of the most respectful, educated bunch.
My 2p is: There was a time when I was all about the heavy stuff. I've grown to get a bit weary of it... and since I heard Language this band has made me so thirsty for that kinda stuff. This album so far seems like it's hitting me EXACTLY where I want it to. And fuck it's beautiful.

I love The Contortionist, even with this light sound (compared to previous work) they have a feeling and technique that makes them great and unique. I would love that the album had a couple songs with unclean vocals too though.

Its funny how these particular musicians have been held to such high standards. (especially after language, imo). some listeners hold very high expectations for these guys to overcome. lol... I mean, they are just doing them and we just happen to partake. they are creating what they love to play. listeners need to respect that. that goes for all music in general. I for one am fucking stoked to receive my preorder for this new album!!!!!

I think people lose track of what the "progressive" part of Progressive Metal means. It means style changes from album to album because of different influence. This doesn't sound anything like Language, just like Language doesn't sound like Intrinsic, just like Intrinsic doesn't sound like Exoplanet. That is what Progressive music is at it's core...a progression of style.
