This album is sooo fucking good. So cohesive. Much perfection. I agree. I do love language though, but I feel like language was not as cohesive. This album just feels like everything is in the exact right place, every interlude, every outro, nothing overplayed, nothing dragged out. Just perfection, haha
That's a tough statement to make, my fav album is intrinsic but I would say that all things considered all 4 albums are pretty much the same level of objective quality
This Album is great, like really really great! But in my opinion language is better and not because they have more heavier parts on language (even though I really like them as well) I like the kind of ambient "feel" I got while listening to language.
This is probably the most underrated song of The Contortionist. Meanwhile i love to death their whole discography. This particular song is the one where it hits home. It gets me a feeling i can't really describe but feel everything all at once. There's a misery, nostalgia, pain but at the same time as the title suggest absolve and alleviate me from distress. Also musically, its incredible how Joey incorporates all the elements its pure technical but at the same time gives you joy to listen. Well, guitars and keys also go so well like especially when it goes to climax. How about Michael ?? Michael, you're an amazing human being, musician. He definitely adds so much to this song. The way he sings is the exact mix of emotions captures your entire body. I truly believe he sings from the soul. 2017 was a strange year of course. This song ages so well during this time. I love you guys. I love you so much. Thank you for this beautiful peace of music.
Language was pretty amazing and the singles for this so far have been good so i'm not sure what you mean. I mean if you just don't dig it thats cool but they seem to be putting a lot into this album.
All mixed up; turned around What are you thinking about? What were we talking about now? Emotion-free, euphoric state Too little, too late You pray for rain in hopes that it'll wash away Well let's be honest You don't have that much faith I think it's too late if you're looking to save face I see you slipping from that throne of grace Focused on opening up You're thinking too loud All that comes has to come down At least you can say you tried to pray for rain You pray for rain in hopes that it'll wash away Well let's be honest, you don't have that much faith I think it's too late if you're looking to save face I see you slipping from that throne of grace Why do we ask for these selfish ways? Are we the only ones that need saving? I think we were foolish in thought Then again I'm probably wrong (I'm probably wrong) Well let's be honest you don't have that much faith I think it's too late if you're looking to save face I see you slipping from that throne
Brady Hargett agreed. I think their style is better with no harsh vocals but I'm hoping they get some heavy guitars and drumming in there. It doesn't have to be a lot but having some of the heaviness at the right time is what made Language so fucking amazing.
It fucking BAFFLES me that you can understand their yang, but not their yin. It's all so METICULOUSLY phrased ... so careful and deliberate. Their compositions are EXQUISITE. And how, as a band, do you have such genius together ... then decide who sings over it? They deserve (insert singer's name because I don't know it) and he deserves them. Clairvoyant is a mesmer of emotions, as was Language. So in love with this group.
Their growth and evolution reminds me a lot of Deftones: rooted in the metal trend at the time but grew to produce interesting melodic pieces. I enjoy this song and hope Clairvoyant explores this sound
All mixed up, turned around Whatcha thinkin' about? What were we talkin' about now? What I love about this band is that they're unpredictable. Every album they change their sound and it always comes out great. I love this band will never stop loving them.
The evolution from Exoplanet to this is incredible and yet each album connects stylistically to the next so well. This is not a band that has reinvented themselves, they've been heading this direction the whole time.
This album is more enjoyable with every listen. I've been listening to a high quality version of it on Google Music, and recommend that you listen to it in HD if you can. UA-cam strips an entire sonic element from the music. 3:26 - The synth in the background! 4:10 - Solo
As a drummer I'm in love with the subtleties of this track. It's an absolute clinic on polyrhythms, between both guitars and drums. Can't wait for this album to come out.
Another "Am I the only one!?!?!?" question. Am I a huge fanboy who was ready to love whatever this group of talented musicians put out, regardless of how heavy or technical it is, but based on the fact they are just sick dudes who make honest music?
GalacticEntropy I think you hit the nail on the head with the comment about honest music. I'd rather hear a beautiful record like this than a record that feels forced just for the sake of being heavy.
Haha actually the only part of the song I liked, those synth feels... Band has been boring since the good ol days with Jon C. His new band, Foreing Waves is going to murder, though.
andrew alfaro dude I love TC and I agree 100% with you. First singer and its energy is missing here (also guitars and fear dsrk atmosphere) I didnt know he has a new band, so thank you so much. I love Exoplanet more than anything
I've been a Contortionist Fan since about 2009. I found them in a phase of my life when I enjoyed the more heavier stuff. As I grew, and as the band grew, we paralleled in our taste of music. The sound of Contortionist will always be Contortionist. Robby, Joey and Cameron will always have their sound and it will always be immediately recognizable. Jon had an amazing voice and his way of projecting a feeling in a simple manner was incredible, however I feel like as the band Aged and came into their own that Mike's sound is just unbelievably fitting for them. Truly incredible work and I am absolutely stoked to get my copy come September.
I've been mourning the death of Linkin Park's Chester Bennington all day and yesterday, and this was the kind of abstract, transcendental pick-me-up I needed after all the sorrow. Thank you, The Contortionist. I hope to pick up your album when it's out.
I love that they are making the music they want to. Not all fans will follow them in this direction which is fine, but the ones that do are in for something special.
To me Language is day, and Clairvoyant is night. At least it's looking that way. Great things exist in both. Get over yourselves and just enjoy this wonderful piece of music, ya jabronis
Language was a good trip, the type filled with positive spiritual growth and love for all things nature- the whole underlying theme of transcendence and the approaching singularity; everything is connected. That's what I got from Language anyhow. Clairvoyant might be going down the slightly darker path of existentialism, and you can see it through the subtle hints in their video for Reimagined. The lyrics as well as the visual cues seem to depict a group of musicians blasting into the the 11th dimension, and one or two of them isn't having a great time, lol. In the end it's still spiritual growth, because you can't get the positive without facing the negative. Although this may just be me reading into things too much, haha. TC is my island band!!!!
A nicely stated analysis. For Elkin: Traditionally a day for a spiritual practitioner is divided into two parts: Sun-up is a time for activity; putting plans in motion and bringing what's inside out. Sun-down is for meditation and self-reflection; to help facilitate the integration of the days' events into some kind of meaningful context. I think Starblazer feels that the energy of Language corresponds with sun-up activity, while this new album will most likely be for quiet and contemplative times. I love all of TC's works (including the first two albums), and I find it interesting that they attract such sensitive and thoughtful people. I feel this band has a very bright future.
love how creative michael is with his melodies and harmonies over complex music. The wait for this album is killing me!!! Language in 2014 really hit me in the soul, there was nothing like it and to hear their sound further progress like this, yeewww. So ready for this shit!!
I was listening to Intrinsic on the way to work this morning and man, to this day it remains one of the best, most forward thinking, and unique albums I've ever heard in my life. I remember hearing that album the day it was released and being completely blown away by the complexity and stark contrast between soft and heavy moments throughout the album. Sad to think we will likely never get another release from these guys that sounds anything close to that. With that said, I really do enjoy the two new tracks from Clairvoyant and the overall direction we were introduced to in Language. Thus far, these guys have released my 3 favorite albums of all time and I feel that my musical preferences and playing style have evolved perfectly in sync with them. I'm sure this album will have it's own unique sound and bring something to the table that we can all appreciate.
I love this whole album, this song especially. This song got me into the album and I’m really glad it did. I’m sorta cringing at the comments but that’s UA-cam. Not an expert, I’m even just a scene kid stumbling into other genres blindly but THIS vibes with me.
Lots of hate on this album already, but it's only a small piece to the big picture that Clairvoyant is. Wait until the full masterpiece is release to criticise it, for now just enjoy this gorgeous piece of the puzzle.
3:30 and on got me into this track, the subtle metals and then the synth solo sold me on this one, I fell in love with this band because of their EPs but I look forward to what they have to offer in this album.

>Start out as a generic deathcore band (Sporadic Movements, Shapeshifter) >Begin incorporating elements from other genres, effectively being labelled progressive deathcore (Apparition, Exoplanet) >Fully embrace their prog side on subsequent releases (Intrinsic, Language) >Strip away all heavy elements and make what's basically a prog rock album (Clairvoyant) Wow, The Contortionist really are the deathcore version of Cynic
@@divinefallfromgrace Although not "generic" as person above said, Cynic did play straight up death metal on their demos. Also both Cynic and The Contortionist "prog rock" albums were disappointing to most older fans and were never as popular as their previous works
@@weaintfriendsweaintfriends7346 Cynic started doing Thrash and then with Progressive Metal with a ton of other genres on Focus and then Progressive Metal on TIA .
If you think this is boring, you clearly don't know the first thing about harmony or rythm. These guys keep evolving in all the right ways. World Class Musicians
I don't know anything about harmony or rhythm. Why don't you "the expert" gives us all the mysterious technicalities that prevent us from having an opinion?
You do realize that by saying you understand nothing about harmony or rythm, you are just complying to my argument? You know nothing about that, thus, you find this boring. Please tell me where in my comment I said you can't have an opinion. I just stated something, that according to your response, seems to be pretty legit
I absolutely love the direction The Contortionist is going. Ever since Mike Lessard became the new vocalist they became immediately more listenable for me. This album is gonna kill!
I love The Contortionist, even with this light sound (compared to previous work) they have a feeling and technique that makes them great and unique. I would love that the album had a couple songs with unclean vocals too though.
Michael with them is one of my favorites to see live. They set a tone that is amazing and can still bring hell when they need to. This is going to be an incredible album.
I see people comparing the first two albums with these two newer albums and I don't really think they are connected. Referring to someone who said Intrinsic was Earth, Exoplanet is Space, Language is Sun and Clairvoyant is Moon. I feel once Mike came in, there isn't really a tie to the 2 previous albums. That's just my opinion though. If anyone has heard of Foreign Waves, it's Jonathan Carpenter's(the former vocalist) new project. He originally intended to have a 3 part story but he left the band without concluding his story so he is making an album for his 3rd part so he can close out his story. Exoplanet - Part 1 Intrinsic - Part 2 His new album will be part 3 I don't know about you guys but I am beyond stoked for that as well. He said to expect some groovy prog 😎 Extremely excited for Clairvoyant as well ❤
I really enjoy the fact that they are taking the progressive rock route. Extremely tasteful compositions and great ambient atmospheres. I'm really looking forward to this.
I really liked this during first listen. Then I smoked some bud for the first time in around a month, and listened to this song as well as Reimagined and Return To Earth. And now I just fucking love all it. Even more excited for the new album.
This whole album is incredible.
send me, nobody has to know! ;)
Spoiler alert. Oh wait, no spoilers here. Their album can't be not incredible.
Dude you heard it awwwhhh I'm pissed
fucking jelly.
Hello Misha. Meet the real Misha.
Metal heads cant get over the fact this band got better. This is their best work yet.

I'm I diehard Metalhead fam.. this is brilliant. Incomprehensible among my thoughts.. pure Art.
This Album is great, like really really great! But in my opinion language is better and not because they have more heavier parts on language (even though I really like them as well) I like the kind of ambient "feel" I got while listening to language.

I love and totally agree with your comment. This is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Much so, a very underrated piece of music.
The Contortionist is hands down my favorite evolution of a band. They make music I never knew I wanted so much, and I love all of it.
I can already tell this is going to be one of the best albums this year.
Nick Acker dude the prog is dead, Lessard killed it. This is going to be one of the most disappointing albums of the year
So stoked
the prog is obviously here. listen closer my man
Language was pretty amazing and the singles for this so far have been good so i'm not sure what you mean. I mean if you just don't dig it thats cool but they seem to be putting a lot into this album.
Oh yeah Michael! This will be so sick
Michael's voice is so elegant! I don't miss the screaming at all. I love this!
I think only true musicians can understand this type of music. It beautiful and so complex.
I didn't expect to be complimented scrolling through comments-
The wait for this album is killing me

could it be " I see you slipping from that grace?"
I think you're right about that. I'll update it
sinksinkswim "well let's be honest, you don't have that much faith." Which is a direct comment on the person praying
sinksinkswim "brought me from wrong" should be "then again, I'm probably wrong"
Thanks, it's funny how obvious it is after somebody points it out
I'm all for harsh vocals but this band really doesn't need them at this point. I'm looking forward to this direction.
Brady Hargett agreed. I think their style is better with no harsh vocals but I'm hoping they get some heavy guitars and drumming in there. It doesn't have to be a lot but having some of the heaviness at the right time is what made Language so fucking amazing.
I too dig the lush soft vocal melody's, and have always wanted bands like this, think Pelican with vocals right?? I love this sound.
Mike is a great singer. So far I'm digging how he's using more cleans.
Agreed. I do love when they overlay cleans with the harsh vocals so I always hope they include that a little bit.
It's Mature Metal. For us people in your 30's and not into the middle school, metal-core scene..
Everything about this band is amazing.
That solo section that hit at about 4 min in is sooo gold
the most replayed is beautiful
3:54 is when you can feel God nearby... I feel lucky I got born as human and had a chance in my life to listen to this kind of beautiful music.. !!
can we born as a pigeon?
How can you be so accurate?
Joey Baca's drumming on this song still blows my mind to this day.
So am I brother/sister/theirster, so am I.
Their growth and evolution reminds me a lot of Deftones: rooted in the metal trend at the time but grew to produce interesting melodic pieces. I enjoy this song and hope Clairvoyant explores this sound
Zach Bennett you get it
One word. Opeth
Changed my mind about this song.. This shit grew on me very hard.

I see you slipping from that, full of grace

You're thinkin' too loud

thanks man
it's actually "let it rain", "save face" and "throne of grace", though
3:52 that transition gave me chills.
What I love about this band is that they're unpredictable. Every album they change their sound and it always comes out great. I love this band will never stop loving them.
3:40 is such amazing melodie, god this band never ceases to surprise me

The evolution from Exoplanet to this is incredible and yet each album connects stylistically to the next so well. This is not a band that has reinvented themselves, they've been heading this direction the whole time.
At least they gave us Language. I'll still be jamming out to that album 50 years from now.
Love the serenity of this music. If fills the gap between soft/ambient music and progressive music that I like. It is very unique.
The culinary musicality of these beat chefs has me eating up their tasty grooves. Can't wait for the new album... Nom nom nom 😋
ew
The Contortionist is taking the leap into prog rock. Phenomenal!
This album is more enjoyable with every listen. I've been listening to a high quality version of it on Google Music, and recommend that you listen to it in HD if you can. UA-cam strips an entire sonic element from the music.

I'm pretty sure the contortionist will bring out a masterpiece. Will surely end in my top 3 of this year if all releases go on like this
This is so great. That outro really gave me some Intrinsic Vibes
Kent Tarver Intrinsic was a masterpiece
Haha actually the only part of the song I liked, those synth feels... Band has been boring since the good ol days with Jon C. His new band, Foreing Waves is going to murder, though.
andrew alfaro dude I love TC and I agree 100% with you. First singer and its energy is missing here (also guitars and fear dsrk atmosphere) I didnt know he has a new band, so thank you so much. I love Exoplanet more than anything
It's his solo project, not band. He hasn't stated whether or not a full lineup will ensue.
Kent Tarver I thought the same thing dude, gave me goosebumps!
Why do I even bother reading the comments? Jesus Christ I am gonna explode waiting for this album. Much love ♥️

This song gives off a range of feelings that's hard to describe and I can't stop listening to it.

God-Tier progressive music.
Approvation Seal.
Today is a good day for music. New Polyphia and a new Contortionist song that jams. Mikes voice is so clean on this one
Chris Stewart The Contortionist and Polyphia: two bands who went from being techy as fuck and heavy to being some watered down bullshit
Keats Flores that polyphia album is mad tech. This song is in a polyrhythm. Everyone needs to accept when bands become less metal and more musical
LYRICS!!! Courtesy of Genius
(Verse 1)
All mixed up; turned around
What are you thinking about?
What were we talking about now?
Emotion-free, euphoric state
Too little, too late (late)
(Chorus)
You pray for rain in hopes that it'll wash away
Well let's be honest
You don't have that much faith
I think it's too late if you're looking to save face
I see you slipping from that throne of grace
(Verse 2)
Focused on opening up
You're thinking too loud
All this comes as the comedown
At least you can say you tried to pray for them
(Chorus)
You pray for rain in hopes that it'll wash away
Well let's be honest
You don't have that much faith
I think it's too late if you're looking to save face
I see you slipping from that throne of grace
(Bridge)
Why do we ask for these selfish ways?
Are we the only ones that need saving? (Saving)
I think we were foolish in thought
Then again I'm probably wrong
Im probably wrong
(Chorus)
You pray for rain in hopes that it'll wash away
Well let's be honest
You don't have that much faith
I think it's too late if you're looking to save face
I see you slipping from that throne of grace (x3)
This band and Good Tiger are the fucking jams right now
>Start out as a generic deathcore band (Sporadic Movements, Shapeshifter)
>Begin incorporating elements from other genres, effectively being labelled progressive deathcore (Apparition, Exoplanet)
>Fully embrace their prog side on subsequent releases (Intrinsic, Language)
>Strip away all heavy elements and make what's basically a prog rock album (Clairvoyant)
Wow, The Contortionist really are the deathcore version of Cynic
Cynic didn't start up as straight-up Death Metal though. Cynic have always been odd, in a great way. 😆
Absolutely cannot wait for this album to drop. These guys never disappoint.
The chorus is so damn good.
I just bought today 9/12. This is a great album to follow Language. The Contortionist sounds more matured and so Fuckin good
If you think this is boring, you clearly don't know the first thing about harmony or rythm. These guys keep evolving in all the right ways. World Class Musicians
I don't know anything about harmony or rhythm. Why don't you "the expert" gives us all the mysterious technicalities that prevent us from having an opinion?
Of all the stupid comments I've read on this video, this one is by far the worst.
You do realize that by saying you understand nothing about harmony or rythm, you are just complying to my argument? You know nothing about that, thus, you find this boring. Please tell me where in my comment I said you can't have an opinion. I just stated something, that according to your response, seems to be pretty legit
Damn, then it really must bother you that you find this boring.
utapau235 I think you missed his sarcasm.
I absolutely love the direction The Contortionist is going. Ever since Mike Lessard became the new vocalist they became immediately more listenable for me. This album is gonna kill!
It is the BEST Album of the year 2017
The outro is lush.
Absolutely beautiful track man, absolutely beautiful
chord change at 4:30 same as the end of Flourish on Exoplanet, so sick
This song helped me save myself from an extremely deep depressive rut, thank you.
This could be my favorite release this year
My favorite song off the album. I've listened to this one about 300 times now, but I still don't get the time signature *crylaugh
Music at its finest.
they said pray and faith they are clearly Christian band now
These guys are going in a great direction. Love ittttt
Exoplanet - Part 1
Intrinsic - Part 2
His new album will be part 3
I don't know about you guys but I am beyond stoked for that as well. He said to expect some groovy prog 😎
Extremely excited for Clairvoyant as well ❤
literally life changing.
i was kind of worried when i heard reimagined....not anymore! this band never fails to blow my mind! good job boys!!
Best song of the album
I really enjoy the fact that they are taking the progressive rock route. Extremely tasteful compositions and great ambient atmospheres. I'm really looking forward to this.
I thought I was listening to new "A Perfect Circle" until I realized this was Contortionist.
Cool sounding tunes the days I must say
Although I do miss the days of exoplanet and apparition, they're continuing to move on with their sound
I really liked this during first listen. Then I smoked some bud for the first time in around a month, and listened to this song as well as Reimagined and Return To Earth. And now I just fucking love all it. Even more excited for the new album.
So much beautiful musical geometry
Will always be a die hard fan
