Hi Trent, If you drag out a shape but forget to hold down the shift key to constrain its proportions , you can after the fact double click any of the shapes bounding points to automatically return it back to constrain its proportions.
That is pretty cool! So if I am understanding it correctly....if I double click one of the side points of the bounding box (not a corner point) it will put the shape into a square whose size is the longest edge. Is that what you are referring to?
Hi Trent. About the shear tool: within the studio box there is only the option to shear horizontally, but not vertically. Or is it? On the iPad version of Designer, there are no arrows at the sides of the bounding box, and the only way to shear an object is inside transform tools studio but, again, only horizontally not vertically. Or there is a way to shear in a vertical move? Thank you for your great videos
Hi @israelfranco9104, yes, as far as I can tell it is only able to sheer vertically in that menu unfortunately. I have not used the iPad version, but I did see someone mention in the Affinity forums that you actually can sheer on the iPad by dragging slightly outside the shape on the UI. In this post, check out the video posted on July 3, 2019 by Eefr. It seems like they are able to do it: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/88986-%E2%80%9Cshear%E2%80%9D-transformation-in-vertical-plane/ Hope this helps!
Hi @nutmeg418, In the Transform tab, in the W and H field, you can type: *2 after the current number, hit enter, and it will double the size. Make sure the link (chain) icon is checked if you want both W and H to scale at the same time. You can also type *200% if you like to work with percentages. Hope this helps!
@@TechnicallyTrent thank you I'll give this a try. I should have mentioned I'm on the iPad version lol so hopefully it is the same 🤞 Edit, it worked. Thank you so much 😭
Hi @arkapadma, I'm not sure what you mean by "reset", but there is an option to Cycle the Bounding Box. This can be done with the period (.) key or through the menu Select -> Cycle Selection Box. If you have rotated something and want to return it to it's original position, you can select the object and in the Transform tab set R (rotation) to 0. Hope this helps! Trent
@@TechnicallyTrent I know cycle selection box, but it is not permanent. For example if you group multiple object, and one of them with 45 degree rotation, the result is that the object you rotate 45 degree affecting bounding box scale, you can't properly scale the grouped object because the transform bounding box is larger than the object it self. This is very hassle since affinity version 1 as it doesn't have a way to reset bounding box into permanent one, instead of cycle it. I know work around with combining the shape with larger shape, using subtract then delete the corner of the larger shape, but it is very time consuming for complex shape. It won't be matter for some people who doesn't work for precision, but if you work for precision the problem is pretty much getting into your nerve.
Hi @virtualwhispers! Are you referring to making the image have a gradual transparency? You can use the Transparency Tool. It is the tool that looks like a wine glass on your toolbar. It may be grouped the Gradient Tool icon. With your object selected, you can select the Transparency Tool and then click and drag on your object. Hope this helps!
@@virtualwhispers In that case, you can use the Live Perspective filter. To use it, go into the Pixel Persona (button at the top left of the UI). Then, with your image selected, choose Layer -> New Live Filter Layer -> Perspective. Then you can change the corners of your image.
@@TechnicallyTrent I don't have (New Live Filter Layer) listed under Layer - I looked for a way to search for updates, but I can't find any way of doing it - The option doesn't come up when I right-click on the icon.
@@virtualwhispers Are you sure you went to the Pixel Persona? This is the other workspace in Affinity Designer. At the top of the screen, under menu bar, you should see 3 icons. Yes, I should have said top/bottom and side points, not corners.@@TechnicallyTrent
that spaceship example was really clever!
When you were flowing text in Publisher, you automatically create as many text boxes you need by holding shift, and then pressing the red arrow.
Awesome, concise affinity tutorials. Thanks for your efforts 🙏
Thinks a lot for your effort i'm switching from illustrator to affinity designer
you explained the meaning of the white reference point very well
I could not even find that info in the Affinity official manual
I didn't know what is the "Transform Objects Separately" for. Good to learn it. Thank you for all your very well and clear explained videos.
Thanks @sechmettara !
Excellent! Transform objects separately? 🤦🏻♂️ great tip! Wish I had known about this one before now. 😂 could have saved me a lot of time.
