1-time purchase... how long is the dev going to be able to continue active development? You've paid for the work he's done, but he's then supposed to just keep working for free? How long? It's not a sustainable model, especially for $20. Procreate somehow continues to get lots of new users, but the market is a lot smaller for 3d sculpting. Personally I liked the age of paid upgrades, but that model died even before the arrival of the App Store.
@@Kokose The charge for Quad Remeshing didn't go to the Nomad dev though. It was to pay a different dev who did Quad Remeshing. So I'm still worried about the Nomad dev's financial model.
As someone who uses Nomad for a Nomad - Blender workflow I can say there is no need for another app. Nomad regularly gets updates with new functions that bring similar use case’s for modeling. For example the added face groups which was a huge complain I saw in another video. This one was a year old and I must say all points that guy brought up were updated. Just export it as on OBJ and the model will arrive as uploaded. Also there is a quad remember, yes, cost a bit extra as this is an external application, but with that you can easily create a low res version of your model. Just copy, quad remesh, bake from high res and done. No finishing touches needed. No hand made hour long process of redoing your mesh and usually ready to rig. This is just my opinion on the matter. There are any things a brush can do better, or functions nomad does not have then let me know.
I was an artist in the games industry for many years and now work as a physical therapist, so I don’t have the same need for the pro level tools that I used to. That said, I still like to doodle, sketch around, and just have fun. I totally agree with you about the casual feel of Nomad, and it can do a lot. ZBrush also has some great tools. I have both right now and will probably keep it that way for a while. I’m a big character modeler and it’s just hard to beat the fluidity of ZSpheres for characters and just quickly knocking out those armatures and getting those dynamic poses. Love both though. Thanks for your review.
This is the gold perspective I was looking for. I’m a mechanical cad engineer jumping into polygon modelling and people can’t seem to handle industry level tools cost money and for a reason. They had to reinvent the wheel with a lot of these free apps or one time apps. When 10-15 years ago we had 0 alternatives
Thank you for your sincere feedback. For my part I just kept the version of zbrush without subscription, I hate subscriptions, and honestly the latest version of zbrush does not deserve to pass. But I understand that as a teacher you have to be up to date. Otherwise Nomad is the best option, even if I haven't tried Zbrush for iPad yet.
Thank you. I did not know about Nomad, but ZBrush's subscription model isn't great. Also, my iPad just meets the minimum requirements for ZBrush, so I doubt it will run smoothly.
I just got an iPad Pro 2024 for Nomad. Then I learned that ZBrush is out for it (I've used ZBrush foe years on desktop) then I saw the price... I can't justify paying that much as a hobbyist
Everything you said there is so spot on!! I'm also using both and got the full subscription of Zbrush for Ipad too. Also, I felt this need of having a thicker wacom-like pen in my hand while working in zbrush, which the pencil pro is not(so ordered some grips for it). But then(similar to what you said) just to get away from the system at home, go to a cafe and sculpt while sipping coffee, both are great. Really like working in Nomad because of its post process features which allows to look at the final thing in real-time. While in zbrush I can do some ideation of anything and take it to my system at home as ztl only with all the subtools intact and continue. (that's also my conscience telling me to "indeed make use of it now that you've subscribed it", hehe :D) Hopefully in the next update they would fix how the screen feels less smooth rotating things, than in nomad. Sorry for this long comment! Really admire your work! :)
@@BySuushimi Hope you get the right one if you are ordering. The seller wrongly sent me grips for Apple Pencil 1 and 2, not for pro. Placed a replacement request😑… Anyway, found another difference btw which gives Nomad sculpt some edge over ZBrush, which is that by using pencil and one finger/thumb in Nomad we can quickly zoom in and out the model, but in ZBrush even though the pencil is touching the screen we’ll have to use two fingers to zoom in and out. Did you notice that? I could not find anything in ZBrush settings to replicate that.
For me I’d say Nomad Sculpt is much better on iPad Pro. I’d love the idea of getting Zbrush but I’m tight on money despite working jobs and I dislike subscriptions. I love single payments or free apps. I would say it is still possible to make great sculpts on Nomad. I am a professional animator (went to University) but even then I love cost effective options like Nomad and Blender. I know Zbrush and Maya are professional softwares but I like saving money more honestly. I do animation but sometimes it is nice to make still art pieces.
Im a beginner nomad sculptor as of two days ago and gotta say it is very easy to learn and i like that you can just add shit in i used to use forger and the tools on forger didnt really do what they said they would do also Nomad is a one time purchase with some tools you can optionally buy so winner in my book
I've watch some Zbrush videos and it does seem like a lot of weird "hold this button and then slide to this other button." It's as if the zbrush devs just need to do weird UI things. Nomad is such a more simple and elegant UI. OTOH, there's some power in zbrush. I learned it years ago and did some cool stuff, but you stop using it awhile and come back, and it's a lot harder to come back to than other 3D apps.
Thats a really useful review! From a perspective of someone who uses Zbrush in daily life, all the concerns and opinions made total sense to me. So now there’s a Zbrush app for iPad. Any future review coming? 👀 Thanks!
Impression I get is that Nomad is built around the iPad whereas Zbrush is an attempt to be just “Zbrush for iPad” as a necessity for their portfolio in modern world. See how it improves with time
Thanks for sharing! I also started to get in touch with "Mobile Sculpting" from Nomad Sculpt. The first time I did digital sculpting on the sofa or in a coffee shop was a great experience. When ZBrush for iPad was launched, I also subscribed to it as soon as it was launched. Now I feel that using ZBrush for iPad to make high-precision models and rendering output in Nomad, the two apps together can bring more fun and make creation more efficient.
So I guess my question is which is better for someone wanting to get into the sculpting for their first time? I hate the idea of subscriptions but is the free option comparable or superior to nomad sculpt? I an having a hard time deciding which one to choose to invest my time in I just am looking for the most feature packed software without a subscription right now.
I’m starting with nomad and never sculpted before, do you offer courses or could you point me in the right direction to learn it? Not many tutorials out here. I really like your league of legends style sculpts.
I personally prefer the bigger screen, but I definitely don't think it's a must :) I used to have the smaller version before this one! It just needs enough power to run smoothly
What are your iPad specs? I've been having a hard time getting into 3d on desktop and thought getting an iPad would help with that since I already need it for my other design work. I just don't want to get one to find out the specs make it burn up whenever I add more polygons! Thanks for the video!
I think my iPad is a bit overkill though haha you can probably do 3D great with lower specs 😊. I have the 12.9 inch iPad Pro 2022, 1TB memory, 16GB of RAM
I want to add funny enough I bought a used iPad Pro model that’s a 2022 model with 1TB of storage to save some bucks but still getting high end software and hardware 😂😅
Subscription vs buying? Subscription loses every time.
Which one is one time buying ?

No comparisons are needed here.
nomad - to have fun.
zbrгsh - for work.
