no matter how intimidating something is, one's much less worried about it when some calm guy (or should I say "lad") is explaining it to you with a nice British accent
Even years after posting, no one has been able to compete with your brilliance! Absolutely loved the video, I'm only sad there was never a Part 2 of this madman with a pc😝 Anyways, a big thank you VOG!💚
At the time of watching, this video is two years old and it's still the best quick start guide for FreeCAD I could find! Congrats mate, this was the perfect mixture of "People who start from scratch need to know THESE things", "This GUI escaped a timecapsule from the 90s, I need to tell my viewers what's actually important" and "Lets make this informative, relaxing and funny at the same time" Thanks to this, I was able to model a spool holder in half an hour without any prior CAD experience. You get my full recommendation!
I am new to CAD and was checking into several other videos until I found this one. Definitely the best introductory FreeCAD tutorial. It's so sad that there was no series and RIP.
you nailed the "happy voice" that makes any beginner tutorial fun and interesting while avoiding making the learner free overwhelmed or feeling talked down to... great job!
Somehow everybody dims himself a great teacher and improvises when making a learning video, but this author actually prepared a lesson, a script and thougtfully executed with no monotonous voice or pauses, wrong steps and mumbling and jumbling. I liked this video more then everything before.
This was a wonderful tutorial. I checked your videos and saw you never made this into a series. That's a shame, you have such a talent for having the right amount of learning and abstracting what you were trying to teach in order to get fundamentals down. Here's hoping you might pick this back up.
I'll be honest, I enjoyed doing the tutorial but at the time I was very surprised how few people actually wanted to watch it. I've no doubt this was down to the magical UA-cam algorithm as, over time, more and more people have slowly found the video and have been very kind with their comments.
How this video doesn't have millions of views is absolutely baffling! By far the best video to follow along to for freecad. And it was perfect for me wanting to make a phone stand a certain way. Thank you for your tutorials. And the jokes make the video so much easier to go along with, in my opinion 💯
I just lost my way! I stared with this tutorial . . . and then went on to others . . . wish I had stayed with this person/tutorial. You do a fine job of teaching with a wry sense of humor, too! THX.
I've been looking for a video like this for weeks. What a joy and relief to find it. All the other ones, talking, clicking away, no possibility of seeing what they were clicking on or where it was to be found. This one is so clear. Simply wonderful. Thanks so much for putting it out there.
@ 19:04 great line. "..and I'm now looking at the rear from the proper angle. Something that always brings me pleasure." Just be careful. Looking at the rear too long could get you reported to HR. 😅 Freecad is the first cad program I've ever tried to use. I never imagined that it was so complicated to render what seems such a basic design. Following along step by step will help familiarize me with the different functions where I can finally design what I'm wanting to.
Love your videos. I am a total hands-on learner. You can sit there and explain everything, but until I see it, it won't sink in. So thank you for what you do. ❤✌
By far the best tutorial out there. Thank you so much for putting in the work to teach us how to use FreeCad! Without this video I would've been totally lost!
Glad your doing this tutorial! I down loaded FreeCAD 2 weeks ago and kinda gave up on learning it. I had watched a few tutorials from other UA-camrs, they were either going too fast (skipping functions) or to slow (exhaustively going over every function's detail). Your tutorial moves at the right speed for me. I can actually make something now. Thank you!
Thanks very much. Getting the pace right is difficult. There's so much to cover in fairness to others. I opted here to go with a "confidence booster" approach, giving practical skills without going into to much depth. Depth may come, if folks want it 😁
This is the best tutorial I've seen! I was able to follow along perfectly and when I encountered errors, I could see why (but usually didn't know why). I attempted to add fillets in all the edges. The program did NOT like that haha. With 3D printing becoming more and more popular, I think your tutorials will become incredibly handy for many people. I hope you consider making a freecad tutorial playlist in the future!
This was great! A lot of people complain online about FreeCad being dumb, hard to understand or not that great. But its actually amazing that it's a free software with so many CAD functions. Once you start to become familiar with the tools, and more importantly how to sketch, you will realize how useful it is. And again its FREE! Thank you for this. I see myself watching this multiple times the next time I want to sketch something a little more complex than a single plane object 😅
Oh Wow, Finaly a tutorial on FreeCAD that is easy to follow, presented really well and has a useful end result. I learnt more about FreeCAD in 26min than hours of other video's. You're now my first point of call for more FreeCAD. Thank You.
I would just like to say a really BIG thank you for this tutorial video. You have simplified things to the point where it all makes perfect sense. For the time being, this video is going to be my bible. I believe you have solved a major issue for me. Finding this video now was perfect timing; my 3D Printer arrived yesterday afternoon. This is my first encounter with 3D printing. I bought it with a very specific purpose in mind and I feel sure that with the help of your video, I will be able to achieve my aim. Oddly enough, the part I need to make is much larger but also triangular in shape. Thank you once again for posting this amazing tutorial.
Wow, the UI for this version of FreeCAD makes AutoCAD R12 look downright futuristic. That version of AutoCAD was released in 1992, for DOS 3.3, Windows 3.1, and MacOS System 7.
Wow, Outstanding, I am a total newbie, like 2 hrs old, I learned so much from this video. I loved drafting in High School, T squares plus 2H and 4H Pencils. This is great!
Many thanks. All CAD seems overwhelming to begin with. The can so so much! Luckily we can do amazing things with just a little, so if we focus on that it's not as overwhelming 😁😁😁
Well, I know I am a year late, but thank you very much for this great tutorial. I learnt more from this short video than I have in the last 3 days of playing with this programme. Excellent you have a new subscriber.
Finally someone who explains things in a way my 73 year old brain can understand. ONE issue now that I have found this. My version is 0.21.2 and just different enough to cause issues. There is a pending release of 0.22.0. Would LOVE to see an updated version of this exact tutorial.
I have to say - your voice and style of narration match precisely to what I'd imagine the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would sound like! This tutorial is perfectly easy to follow, doesn't go off on long and unnecessary tangents, and explains everything quite clearly! Well done! Now if only there were a concise tutorial on understanding and surviving Vogon poetry...
Great tutorial! I have been checking out a bunch of 3D modelling/CAD tools lately but got stuck on some detail in all cases. This is by far the best tutorial I found in months and will for sure give FreeCAD some attention this weekend!
Thank you for providing an understandable totorial that isn't rushed to the point of being unable to conprehend what is happening. Also you made me realize that I needed to change my 2d scetch by 90 degrees. I think this will work better, for what I want to do, than Blender which has been driving my nuts trying to make 3d print files.
A Great starter, I started with Solidworks, then Fusion 360 (No Hope with AUTOCAD) and now this. It has its quirks but thanks to this video I am up and running now.
Why wasn't this the first video recommended?? I guess one has to wade through the bad to appreciate the good. And this is excellent! I can't imagine a faster or more effective way to introduce FreeCAD. Many thanks!!
This is a great video VOG. I hope you will continue with real-life examples showing how the software works. So many tutorials only highlight the software without applying it to useful situations!
This is perfect timing! Not only did I just finish upgrading my computer (so I can actually run design programs now), but I also have a design project due in two weeks that I completely forgot about until I saw the notification for this video! Like I said, really good timing.
I have really struggled with other UA-cam tutorials as they were just too fast for me to keep up with, You miss one small thing in FreeCad and it doesn't do what the instructors does and causes all sorts of head aches! Presented at the perfect speed for me, So thanks so much and ill sub in the hope to learn more. Thanks so much again...

That was an awesome tutorial, you really have such a talent when it comes to explaining things like this! Informative, funny and kind of relaxing at the same time. Big thanks!
i had an issue for a bit that almost made me change software but i finnaly figured it out. it was while doing this tutorial. but after it was solved i was able to learn quite a lot thanku for the great vid
Excellent tutorial. I am getting my 1st 3d printer, and as soon as I can get the printer going and me printing this will be my next stop. THANKS THANKS THANKS. OUSTANDING!!!
Oh, Man!!! thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you. You made it look like, it is super cool to learn Freecad. I landed on your page after watching many confusing Freecad tutorials. Your method of explaining is so good!!!!
By far the best tutorial available, done at a good beginner pace, and had me creating my first 3D design, plus gave me the confidence on doing my own small project successfully. Just wished you would have carried this series on and followed up with a beginner slicing tutorial as I just went to print my phone holder and it failed a third of the way through as I guess I need supports on the overhangs - doh!
That was really brilliant, it has enabled me to do something which I never would be able to do without your help. absolutely amazing - thanks very much.
I wish I'd found this before I started pulling my hair out (not much there anyway at my age haha) Too many videos rush through or miss out the most important steps by assuming you have at least some knowledge, but I wouldn't be searching for freecad basics if I had that knowledge, thankfully your approach is exactly what's needed. Thank you so much, new subscriber here now!
Been struggling to learn this software but got the phone holder drawn and printing it now thank you for the instruction keep up the great work you are doing.
Good Sir, This is an outstanding tutorial. I've been trying to wrap my mind around FreeCAD for days without any luck when your video showed up in my feed. The lesson was clear and the illustrations were spot on. With the right orientation, I too was also able to "look at the rear from the proper angle".
I really appreciate your teaching style. Having grappled with Fusion 360 and never really enjoying the workflow and controls, I will now give freecad a try. Thank you. 👍🇦🇺😎
no matter how intimidating something is, one's much less worried about it when some calm guy (or should I say "lad") is explaining it to you with a nice British accent
Jan, that really made me laugh. Thank you 😁😁😁

I can definitely agree with that, my man

AT LAAST !!!! a FreeCad tutorial that I can actually understand. The presentation, both the narrative and the illustrations, were superb. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I couldn't agree more!
