CAD TUTORIAL : FreeCAD Beginner [EASY GUIDE]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2024
- FreeCAD can baffle. CAD tutorials can bemuse. So here I go with an easier approach, learning by doing, and making a practical Phone Holder that can be 3D printed at the end of the tutorial. Deliberately there's nothing demanding or technical here... it's just a step by step build, giving you the confidence to use the tools you need and be able to ignore the many distractions you don't.
And if a phone holder isn't your thing, that's okay, because by following along you'll pick up on FreeCADs way of doing things and quickly begin to acquire the CAD skills you require to tackle your chosen projects.

no matter how intimidating something is, one's much less worried about it when some calm guy (or should I say "lad") is explaining it to you with a nice British accent
Jan, that really made me laugh. Thank you 😁😁😁
you nailed the "happy voice" that makes any beginner tutorial fun and interesting while avoiding making the learner free overwhelmed or feeling talked down to... great job!
Thanks very much. I try to enjoy what I'm doing and I hope by doing that folks will enjoy learning 😁
19:03 "I'm now looking at the rear from the proper angle, something that always gives me pleasure"
I can definitely agree with that, my man
AT LAAST !!!! a FreeCad tutorial that I can actually understand. The presentation, both the narrative and the illustrations, were superb. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I couldn't agree more!
literaly the best one!!!!
Indeed the most understandable tutorial i ever saw on Freecad. Now i can really start to use it... Thank you, @vogman!!
At the time of watching, this video is two years old and it's still the best quick start guide for FreeCAD I could find!
Congrats mate, this was the perfect mixture of "People who start from scratch need to know THESE things", "This GUI escaped a timecapsule from the 90s, I need to tell my viewers what's actually important" and "Lets make this informative, relaxing and funny at the same time"
Thanks to this, I was able to model a spool holder in half an hour without any prior CAD experience. You get my full recommendation!
This was great! A lot of people complain online about FreeCad being dumb, hard to understand or not that great. But its actually amazing that it's a free software with so many CAD functions. Once you start to become familiar with the tools, and more importantly how to sketch, you will realize how useful it is. And again its FREE!
Thank you for this. I see myself watching this multiple times the next time I want to sketch something a little more complex than a single plane object 😅
This was a wonderful tutorial. I checked your videos and saw you never made this into a series. That's a shame, you have such a talent for having the right amount of learning and abstracting what you were trying to teach in order to get fundamentals down. Here's hoping you might pick this back up.
I'll be honest, I enjoyed doing the tutorial but at the time I was very surprised how few people actually wanted to watch it. I've no doubt this was down to the magical UA-cam algorithm as, over time, more and more people have slowly found the video and have been very kind with their comments.
How this video doesn't have millions of views is absolutely baffling! By far the best video to follow along to for freecad. And it was perfect for me wanting to make a phone stand a certain way. Thank you for your tutorials. And the jokes make the video so much easier to go along with, in my opinion 💯
Glad it was helpful!
wow, youve really made me realize how intuitive this is! Thank you!
Somehow everybody dims himself a great teacher and improvises when making a learning video, but this author actually prepared a lesson, a script and thougtfully executed with no monotonous voice or pauses, wrong steps and mumbling and jumbling. I liked this video more then everything before.
Excellent teacher - thankyou
IF YOU DON'T KNOW A THING ABOUT FREECAD, THIS IS THE PERFECT TUTORIAL!!! THANKS MAN!!!
You are an incredible teacher, amazing... You have just make me realize how powerful and easy this program is... This video show the world what's the correct way to teach... You are a professional. Congrats!! 🤩
Wow, thank you!
I wish I'd found this before I started pulling my hair out (not much there anyway at my age haha) Too many videos rush through or miss out the most important steps by assuming you have at least some knowledge, but I wouldn't be searching for freecad basics if I had that knowledge, thankfully your approach is exactly what's needed. Thank you so much, new subscriber here now!
I have to say - your voice and style of narration match precisely to what I'd imagine the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would sound like!
This tutorial is perfectly easy to follow, doesn't go off on long and unnecessary tangents, and explains everything quite clearly! Well done!
Now if only there were a concise tutorial on understanding and surviving Vogon poetry...
HA, I thought exactly the same thing about the HHG2G! Sort of a less-cheeky Stephen Fry vibe.
@ 19:04 great line. "..and I'm now looking at the rear from the proper angle. Something that always brings me pleasure." Just be careful. Looking at the rear too long could get you reported to HR. 😅
Freecad is the first cad program I've ever tried to use. I never imagined that it was so complicated to render what seems such a basic design. Following along step by step will help familiarize me with the different functions where I can finally design what I'm wanting to.
I really enjoyed this moment in the video. Had to stop learning for a good laugh!
By far the best tutorial out there. Thank you so much for putting in the work to teach us how to use FreeCad! Without this video I would've been totally lost!
This was the best tutorial I've ever seen. Was really fun to watch and learn with you. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! I've just done a similar video on Fusion 360 you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/lreS58lmkTs/v-deo.html
That T square drawing board clip .... took me back to 1978 in an instant!
For me it was "Technical Drawing" class at school. 😁
@@vogman same here all the way to O level when that was a thing
Finally I Understand freecad. Thanks
Many thanks. I've just done a similar video on Fusion 360 you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/lreS58lmkTs/v-deo.html
Even if I didn't want to learn FreeCad I'd still watch this tutorial for the entertainment value!!
Great tutorial!
Glad you liked it!
thank you, really useful and easy to follow - with judicious use of pause key I managed to keep up!
I love this so much!! Explaining it like any other. This will definitely help me as I've been trying to teach freeCAD to myself for the past 6-7 hours. Well let's just say it hasn't worked too well haha
Great tutorial! I have been checking out a bunch of 3D modelling/CAD tools lately but got stuck on some detail in all cases. This is by far the best tutorial I found in months and will for sure give FreeCAD some attention this weekend!
Complete newbie here. It took a couple of tries but, your tutorial was a lot of fun, educational and, it was a huge boost to my confidence. Thanks.
Finally someone who explains things in a way my 73 year old brain can understand. ONE issue now that I have found this. My version is 0.21.2 and just different enough to cause issues. There is a pending release of 0.22.0. Would LOVE to see an updated version of this exact tutorial.
I'm glad I could help. The versions update all too frequently, but hopefully the lessons learned will see you through many updates to come 😁
Thank you, very well done and easy to understand.
A Great starter, I started with Solidworks, then Fusion 360 (No Hope with AUTOCAD) and now this. It has its quirks but thanks to this video I am up and running now.
I’m new to freecad and printing but this is the best beginners Freecad that I have seen. Thank you.
Many thanks 😁
Love your videos. I am a total hands-on learner. You can sit there and explain everything, but until I see it, it won't sink in. So thank you for what you do. ❤✌
This was my first Free Cad tutorial. What a great experience! This was really easy to follow. Thank you so much!
Oh Wow, Finaly a tutorial on FreeCAD that is easy to follow, presented really well and has a useful end result. I learnt more about FreeCAD in 26min than hours of other video's. You're now my first point of call for more FreeCAD. Thank You.
Glad your doing this tutorial! I down loaded FreeCAD 2 weeks ago and kinda gave up on learning it. I had watched a few tutorials from other UA-camrs, they were either going too fast (skipping functions) or to slow (exhaustively going over every function's detail). Your tutorial moves at the right speed for me. I can actually make something now. Thank you!
Thanks very much. Getting the pace right is difficult. There's so much to cover in fairness to others. I opted here to go with a "confidence booster" approach, giving practical skills without going into to much depth. Depth may come, if folks want it 😁
There's nothing about this video that I don't love! Thank you!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks again...
Glad I could help!
Only half through the video & already wanting to say thank you. This is easy to follow.
Yes. Just what I needed, to the point info that let's ne get started to draw in FreeCad without getting 'lost in the weeds'! Thank you!
I've been looking for a video like this for weeks. What a joy and relief to find it. All the other ones, talking, clicking away, no possibility of seeing what they were clicking on or where it was to be found. This one is so clear. Simply wonderful. Thanks so much for putting it out there.
Glad it was helpful! Many thanks. I've just done a similar video on Fusion 360 you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/lreS58lmkTs/v-deo.html
This is the best tutorial I've seen! I was able to follow along perfectly and when I encountered errors, I could see why (but usually didn't know why). I attempted to add fillets in all the edges. The program did NOT like that haha. With 3D printing becoming more and more popular, I think your tutorials will become incredibly handy for many people. I hope you consider making a freecad tutorial playlist in the future!
Holy crap. I've never had such a relaxing training. Please, before I go through all your videos, that you have more!
Why wasn't this the first video recommended?? I guess one has to wade through the bad to appreciate the good. And this is excellent! I can't imagine a faster or more effective way to introduce FreeCAD. Many thanks!!
you got an awesome sense of humor making thing supposed to be boring an absolute fun, thank you!
Thank you. Iam computer stupid, however I followed you clear instructions and succeeded from AAH! to great and now I need your next tutorial
.
Loved this Tutorial, simple, straight to the point, and easy to follow along. Thank you!
This video gave me soooo much confidence! Thanks so much, I designed my first print tonight and its printing now on my p1p!
Wonderful! This is why I make these tutorials, so folks have the confidence to make their own designs. Brilliant! Thanks for the share. Keep going 😁👍👍👍
I love the side commentary you sneak in
Oh, Man!!! thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you. You made it look like, it is super cool to learn Freecad. I landed on your page after watching many confusing Freecad tutorials. Your method of explaining is so good!!!!
Wow, Outstanding, I am a total newbie, like 2 hrs old, I learned so much from this video. I loved drafting in High School, T squares plus 2H and 4H Pencils. This is great!
thank you very helpfull. yes a series would be nice for us beginers. i would like to see more time on the combo view screen , It seems thats the place to fix and repair
Thank you, a very well executed video
i also like a nice rear view angle ;)
Wow you have made the greatest tutorial video ever
Glad it helped
I love your teaching style. Thanks!
Thanks for this!
Great tutorial. Hoping for part 2 and 3 and beyond
Thank you sir for a great instructional video. Hope you make more.
This is excellent! Thank you for this great tutorial.
I am so grateful!
Woooow I love the presentation, best of the bes
Thank you so much 🤗
Best Nooby tutorial ive found on youtube, thank you.
Excellent tutorial 👍
I came for the 3d printing but i'll sure as hell stay for this tutorial series! Thanks a lot I highly appreciate your work and fine sense of humour. Greetings from Austria
Thanks very much 😁😁😁
great tutorial, watched several videos over the last few weeks, wen't straight over my head, I could follow your tutorial easily, Thank you 👍
Love it can't wait to see more like it
Thanks Andy 😁
Thank you so much!! Great video!
Must of watched a dozen videos and not understood a word . Watched yours and it all fell into place . Thank you so much 👍
Thanks Mark 😁
Great tutorial thank you :))
Well, I know I am a year late, but thank you very much for this great tutorial. I learnt more from this short video than I have in the last 3 days of playing with this programme. Excellent you have a new subscriber.
This is the best Freecad tutorial
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very nice
This is perfect timing! Not only did I just finish upgrading my computer (so I can actually run design programs now), but I also have a design project due in two weeks that I completely forgot about until I saw the notification for this video!
Like I said, really good timing.
Glad to be of service 😁
Absolutely fantastic, thank you!
You're very welcome!
Much appreciated. Cheers.
Perfect video for people like me who are scared and overwhelmed by 3D design software.
Thanks.
Many thanks. All CAD seems overwhelming to begin with. The can so so much! Luckily we can do amazing things with just a little, so if we focus on that it's not as overwhelming 😁😁😁
I really appreciate your teaching style. Having grappled with Fusion 360 and never really enjoying the workflow and controls, I will now give freecad a try. Thank you. 👍🇦🇺😎
Yes man I’m always loving your projects , in the process of gathering everything I need to cast some figures and thanks for all the tips and motivation 🤟🤟good luck with everything
Glad to help
Thank you, this is precisely what I required in order to start using this CAD program
Thanks a lot! Perfect video
Excellent video with just the right amount of tech for an intro. Please do more Freecad, your style of delivery is very effective.
Thanks John 😁
This is amazing tutorial that really helps me to understand freecad, thanks so much
Thanks so much for this
Thank you for providing an understandable totorial that isn't rushed to the point of being unable to conprehend what is happening. Also you made me realize that I needed to change my 2d scetch by 90 degrees. I think this will work better, for what I want to do, than Blender which has been driving my nuts trying to make 3d print files.
Amazing, exactly what i needed. I copied and put my own twists on it and its printing right now, my first design and print! Thanks!
Thanks a lot man, this was awesome - it helps me get enough gumption to start in freecad.
Thank you!!! Finally a tutorial for my monkey brain, I was about to give up on freecad until I found your channel.
Good video, well done.
I'm only 4 minutes in as an absolute beginner in cad and loving the way you teach! Cause I'm a baby. Subscribed and thumbs up.
Welcome aboard!
That was a GREAT lesson. You’re a very accomplished teacher!
Many thanks 😁
Woooww!!!
What an incredible way of teaching!
Really amazing!
Greetings from Brazil
you are a master, thank you
Great tutorial thank you for your time
Thank You VOG!
My pleasure!
Thank you master , you are really a good teacher 👍👍😊👍 thanks 🙏
You are very welcome. I've just done a similar video on Fusion 360 you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/lreS58lmkTs/v-deo.html
Excellent. Clear and helpful. Just the other day i was stumbling around it not knowing where to start.
I have really struggled with other UA-cam tutorials as they were just too fast for me to keep up with, You miss one small thing in FreeCad and it doesn't do what the instructors does and causes all sorts of head aches!
Presented at the perfect speed for me, So thanks so much and ill sub in the hope to learn more.
Thanks so much again...
Many thanks 😁
thanks uuu so much that’s helped me a lot !!!!❤️❤️
OMG! Thank you ,Vog
Any time!
This is a great video VOG. I hope you will continue with real-life examples showing how the software works. So many tutorials only highlight the software without applying it to useful situations!
Thanks John. I'm a firm believer in learning by doing, so this approach makes the most sense to me 😁
@@vogman Did you print the holder on an SLA or resin printer?
Excellent. Thankyou.
Many thanks. I've just done a similar video on Fusion 360 you may enjoy ua-cam.com/video/lreS58lmkTs/v-deo.html
Congratulations = This is one of the best FreeCad tuto i've ever seen = Thks and greetings from sunny south of France !
Thanks Romain. That's very kind of you to say 😁😁😁👍👍👍
