- Ann Wilson | Stairway To Heaven | Vocal Coach Reaction | Ken Tamplin
Today’s reaction is a performance by Heart paying homage to one of the most iconic bands in music: Led Zeppelin.
Ann Wilson takes on their equally iconic song “Stairway To Heaven”, in a performance in front a star-studded cast at the Kennedy Center.
Among the audience were Led Zeppelin members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant along with a host of other celebrities. Ann was definitely up for the challenge and did a great job of honoring the song while also giving it a little of her own "Heart" flare.
Ann’s tone is very similar to Robert Plant’s so she actually is a great person to be taking on one of his tunes.
I really enjoyed the performance and it was fun watching the reactions from Robert and Jimmy as they listened to their music be redone by such a classic band as Heart.
I’m looking forward to hearing what you all thought of the video. Please be sure to share your feedback!

Thank you for this Ken, I’m among the many that suggested you cover this tribute. You’re awesome man, God bless.
Thanks John! Glad we could get your request in.
Me too. Ann still rocks. I watched their tour on UA-cam it was awesome.
Another gem 💎 of a post. I think I have watched this cover 50 times in the last year. It’s phenomenal to say the least. It’s such an emotional capture of greatness on so many levels. Thanks for the effort in breaking some of the details out on such an iconic cover. 🙏🏼
@@oprecovery6624 Well said🌴😎🎧
I've watched it several times love it
I love the sweet irony that Ann and Nancy did this to honor the immortal legacy of Led Zeppelin, and simultaneously cemented their own legacy in the process. Beautiful!
Rock on!
Nailed it Kiko!!
I felt that Robert was seeing his whole life flowing by. That was his look.
*his legacy
Plant talked about in an interview how he was mostly paying attention to Jason Bonham (on drums), the late John Bonham's son. Between him and the bowler hat choir (which was one of John's signature looks), the whole experience really took him back and made a lot of emotion well up in Robert, which I imagine is why he was in tears for most of the performance.
His gift to us
@@derrickb427 undoubtedly he was thinking of his lost boy from that time- when Bonzo was his truest friend in that horrible time.
Led Zeppelin specifically requested that Heart do this...after all, back in the day, Heart was called the female Zeppelin. Ann, THE BEST female rock singer of all time!
Rock on, Ms Red!
That's not actually accurate. The Kennedy Center asked Ann and Nancy to do it (not the entire group Heart, but just those two -- which is why they were announced as "Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart") because Jason thought Ann would be the perfect vocalist. In fact, the Heart label on this recording is way misleading, because it's not Heart's band playing it and it wasn't Ann, Nancy, or anyone affiliated with Heart who arranged it.
The Zeppelin guys had no idea who was going to be on stage, which is why Robert looked so surprised at the beginning when Jason walked out. Robert has always liked Ann personally and thinks she is a great singer, but for years was very annoyed when her voice was compared to his so I'm not sure she would have been his first choice even though practically everyone else thinks she's the only one vocally qualified to cover Zeppelin.
She's one of the greatest female vocalist of all time. You could tell that they were honored to have Heart playing one of their greatest songs of all time. I don't think they could've picked anyone else any better for that song. Awesomeness.
It was a moving performance and an experience to imagine it was like behind Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul's eyes!
Ann Wilson did an awesome job covering “She Talks To Angels” by The Black Crowes! I’d recommend it very highly! After all I was introduced to her band Heart by going to listen to her earlier stuff after seeing the video on UA-cam for her performance on that one song.
*Jason really made his dad proud!!! 🔥🤘🔥*
Yes!
Indeed he did
Absolutely Sanjay. I'm sure his dad was right there with him in spirit.
Ann Wilson is the BEST female rock singer that's lived!! You can not have anyone other than Ann sing this!!! AMAZING!! 😊💜🎤
Don't miss the fact the Jason Bohnam is on the drums recreating his dad's groove to perfection.
Did you see how Jason looked up when the song was almost over? Kind of like he was saying..."This is for you dad". Complete chills.
On his dad's kit, if I remember correctly. Just an amazing performance.
All the bowler hats too!
I love how Ann never over sings.
Same that’s my biggest irritation of most Zeppelin covers. The singers just do way too much. Ann keeps it true to the original which fits the song much better
I was touched by Robert Plant's reaction to hearing Ann sing his trademark song. No one could have done it better. Perfection at it's finest.
Have a great Holiday Season, everybody. I hope you like this one! Send the Link out to your loved ones and share it with them! Enjoy!

Same to you @Ken Tamplin Academy :)
Happy holidays to you and yours too Ken!
same to you, hope you had a great Turkey Day :D
Same to you Ken Happy Holidays 😊
She’s always been a favorite voice of mine. I love that she didn’t veer too far off of the original and kept the essence of what made this song stand out
very nicely done
She's the Queen 👑 70 years old and still singing damn amazing as she always did
saw Ann with her own band here two years ago. Lots of blues style tunes plus "Barracuda"! Blew the roof off the Paramount!!
I love the way she takes her time once she sings 'and not to ROLL' to get to C5. It's the cherry on top for me. She's an amazing singer.
Nahuel Martinez 👍👍👍
Only Ann can do a Stairway to heaven cover.
J B 👍👍👍
Amazing Performance! Also, can we take a moment to appreciate how underrated Nancy Wilson is as a guitarist?
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nancy is a fabulous guitarist.
She plays so many more instruments too. As does Ann.
They both are just loaded with talent.
@@christine3043 They certainly are!
She's not underrated
Love this performance & Heart, but Jason’s presence brings me to tears every time. 😢 Especially when he looks up as if to say “This is for you, dad” ❤️ My heart!
Needless to say he did his dad proud!!❤️
Then his kiss to the band at the end~ they’ve really stepped in for Bonzo & have always been there for Jason... personally & professionally. Beautiful relationship. ❤️
Yes, it was beautiful!
I remember Robert Plant even saying that one of the main reasons he teared up during this performance was because of seeing Jason there drumming... and he just thought of John and how amazing it was for Jason to be doing John's part.
OMG! I just said the same thing! It gives me chills!
Ann, Nancy with Jason Bonham on drums... pretty darn cool.
sweet!
Not forgetting Sheldon Cooper on guitar.
@@jasonraymond7762 lol
Jason wearing a hat just like his dad used to wear. This whole performance was magical...and I think the guys were blown away.
@@snikkerr1949 It was his Dad's hat.
One of my favorite Ann Wilson performances.
It's truly amazing how affected the artists were to sit there and have that presented to them. It blows me away just to think about it, rchelicopterheaven!
I love that an old-school great was chosen to sing this.
In '79 a girl I met lived 2 blocks from Ann on Lake Washington.
Was invited to a "friends and neighbors Bar-B-Que" at her house.
I could play Beatle songs, and Ann sat me right next to her. Her voice moved my hair !!! Best voice ever. Just fun oldies and Beatles. Have since met them many times, and they let me film all their shows way up close. On my channel !
Awesome story!
I always get so moved watching Zepp watch the performance. Robert looked so emotional...like he was going through years of memories in his head and just really realizing the enormity of what they accomplished while listening to their work being done so beautifully. I also felt like Ann was moving him to the verge of tears at the climax of the song (I know she did that to me). Jimmy was just loving it and in awe. I have watched this performance countless times and it just never gets old.
Rock on!
Hey again Ken! Ann Wilson, for me, the best female rock lead EVER! No one can top her especially live. I've been up close at several of HEART concerts and this lady is absolutely amazing! Adding Nancy to the mix just makes the entire thing perfect.
Awesome, Triumph 1983!
Can't agree on that guitar part with you brother. That dude nailed it note for note and then some.
Rock on!
Even Jimmy liked it!
Ive watched this video so many times over the last years. Hits me right in the feels every time.
Great video
Ann Wilson is a goddess of music! I love her! She's amazing!
I always have tears in my eyes when I watch this performance, like you said, it's a train of emotions.
Great music for sure!
Me too.
People cutting onions every time I watch this!
I rarely like covers! This one was done so well and truly honored Led Zeppelin properly. I don’t believe anyone could have done it better! Great video.
Glad you like this one!
Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar, two of rocks greatest singers!
Ann's voice I always thought was one of the best in rock. She always sounded amazing.
She's amazing
She was SIXTY-TWO years old when they did this!
SIXTY-TWO!!
Ann Wilson is beyond extrarordinary.
Wow. When I hear Ann Wilson singing "stairway to heaven", my heart melts and flows into the infinity of the universe. It's the same feeling I had when I first heard these songs in 1971. For me it was like a glance into heaven, made possible by Led Zeppelin.
Poetic! Thanks for the visit!
Anne said, her and Nancy were nervous behind the curtain, also No one knew the late drummers son was going to play. The larger choir w bolo hats , we’re a tribute to his dad. I guess it pumped the choirs up, they used stand in drummers. That whole show was awesome.. 🎉🇨🇦
Always goosebumps. One of the best songs ever!Music is such a big part of our lives...❤️
😀👍
Iconic in every way. Ann’s powerful voice, Jason Bonham on drums (made his dad proud). Love it! 😍
She rocked it!
Rock on!
When you can make the guys from Zeppelin cry when you cover there song you did well ‼️❤️❤️
Thanks for doing this video Ken! Ann Wilson's performance was breathtaking. The whole performance was breathtaking. I love this video. Wow!
Glad you liked it!
Kimmie Ann is better than ever live! You should hear her sing KASHMIR.
To my untrained ear, it I love the entire performance and Ann just killed the song. It’s not often you hear a female voice cover that really does justice to the original. Her voice is so thick and full of powerful tone.
Absolutely, Nathan!
Ken I love your face!! The expressions of joy when you listen to the performances are very moving to me. You beam with passion! Brightens my day as much as the music
Thank you, Jett! That's so sweet!
@@kentamplin I love you too Ken!! I used to dance (solo) to this song professionally....
This version always gives me goosebumps and tears to my eyes. everytime.
Thank you. Rock on! 👍
In my amateurish standing, this is the best cover of a great song, EVER!!! HEART has always tried to emulate L.Z. and on that night they for a few minutes became a truly fine version of them. Cool that the L.Z. crew got to see it in person.
Happy New Year! 🎉🍾🥂
This is epic beyond words! Ken you are doing amazing job! And best of it all is that you met Robert Plant in person! God bless you so much!
Thanks so much!
THIS is a stunning performance. I get chills and goosebumps whenever I watch it (Like Pink Floyd's 'Pulse' concert version of 'Comfortably Numb'). From all reports, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and Jimmy Page were VERY impressed and awed by the performance as well!
Most incredible female rock vocalist of all time - and she's still rockin' it!
Thanks for the visit. Rock on! 👍
she sings like prayer.
like confession.
her song have all emotions
sorry bad English
I think you said it perfectly. I agree totally.
And not just "one of their songs," but their flippin greatest hit. The stones it would take. Wow. You're too hard on the guitarist. He killed it, Ken, and yes i remember you from your CCM days. This was incredible.
I have so much respect for Heart, hearing her vocals always give me the chills. THIS one though......I am STILL tingling. What a voice, a true powerhouse. Loved the video and commentary as always. Happy Thanksgiving to you Ken and your family. Rock on 🤘🎶🎼🎤
Happy Thanksgiving!
Ann Wilson truly is a powerhouse when it comes to vocals
the Wilson sisters are AMAZING
The Wilson Sisters are my idols such trialblazers for woman in rock and them doing one of the most amazing covers of my favorite band ever Led Zeppelin is just amazing !!
Adriana C 👍👍👍
Led Zeppelin whole lotta love❤️
Haaa the bubble gum story! 😅😅 love those kind of stories :)
Love Ann Wilson’s vocals and Nancy Wilson’s guitar is perfect
Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
This tribute was just phenomenal. Without a doubt it’s the best one done in these Kennedy Center Honors ceremonies!
Augusto Kist 👍
Ken Tamplin is the best👏👏👏
OMG Jimmy was loving this
What is remarkable about this is that Ann starts the song so gently and then builds up with a massive voice. It takes enormous cojones to perform a song like this in front of the guys who wrote it. This was incredible.
PS: I know what it's like to play a piece of music in front of the composer. When I was a kid,, I played accordion and played at a festival each year. One time the adjudicator had written the piece of music and ripped my playing to shreds. It made me a better musician and composer.
Thank you!
Goosebumps. Goosebumps. Goosebumps. Who doesn't like Led Zeppelin? I am sure there are people who don't like them, and that's what makes this world go around. Heart, yes. Nancy Wilson on the guitar. Ann and her magical voice. If you don't watch it, you can hear her sound a bit like Robert Plant. Great video. Much respect.
karend169 ❤️
two of my most favorite groups of all time.... ever!! most excellent rendition/tribute. it would be an honor to be able to sound as great in front of Led Zepplin. amazing!! just pure and simply AMAZING! loved the performance. Ann and Nancy just killed it, and so did Jason. He did his father proud.
ILOVE Your music
They sure did, HisRavenQu33n!
Did you notice Robert was moved to tears .
Big Dave 👍
Hi Ken. A little late to the party. I think part of the magic is that the words carry even more weight when sung by a female, especially Ann. It creates more empathy for the woman in the song. I also believe this is one of the greatest live performances of any kind. The musical direction and audio mix was outstanding.
Thanks for the thoughts, Bill!
I totally agree about loving this song sung by a woman as it adds something special. Also, I think the whole production was under the very talented Paul Shaffer.
robert was crying I adore him
💜💜💜
i think that Ann Wilson is one of the underrated singers of all time and one of the greatests female singers of all time
No argument here.
What blows me away is the amazing amount of depth and dimension the choir and expanded range of instruments brings to this song. To me it really adds flesh to the bones. Makes it more complete if you will. A moving and we'll performed tribute that always brings a tear to my eye.
You are the best.
I really enjoy seeing professionals react to this performance of one of the best songs ever written, thanks for posting.. Great job
Awesome!
The best cover of any song ever.
Glad you liked it!
Exactly
The Kennedy Center Honors has been around since the 1970s. A few years ago, the Kennedy Center Honors listed the top five performances and two of them happened on that night. The other performance was Jeff Beck and Beth Hart's cover of I'd Rather Go Blind.
I agree!!!
Have you heard Heart cover LZ’s Kashmir? Jason’s on drums. It is wonderful.
Ann Wilson is the GOAT.
nicks is THE GOAT VOICE!
Ken this may have been the Greatest Production of a Song Ever!! Thanks for Doing It!!! Phenomenal!!
Rock on!
Her voice I think is better now then it's ever been. She was spot on !
She is Great!
She get better the more older she is. There is no one imo who can touch Ann Wilson in Vocals. God she is so amazing
Jimmy was so involved during that solo...that might brought back many good old memories...♥️forever led zep fan
For sure.
I love this version, its very powerful and a true homage to the band and to John Bonham.
The entire second choir and ofc Jason Bonham on drums, all wearing Bowlerhats in honor of the late, great, John Bonham.
Robert getting emotional, John-Paul and Jimmy having a blast, the audience taking it all in, that is musical magic right there, on that stage.
Thnx for the upload Ken :)
Now you know what music is about and how it can make you feel!!!
Absolutely!
I knew this was out there but was afraid to watch it. That's so good
This woman have what moust of the man don't have. And bend great cover, the back vocals killing.
Loads of power!

And ball's 😃
even swamp creatures enjoyed it. lol..That song is timeless. Ann and Nancy did it proud.
They certainly did!
did you release this video 3 years ago? why I did not see it?. I have watched that video so many times! tears come from my eyes each time....what a great surprise to see this review from you! :) :) my favorite UA-cam channel!
This was sheer perfection and an honorable tribute to the legendary Led Zeppelin
One of the best covers of Stair way to heaven that I've ever heard , absolutely love it!
Rock on!
BTW, that was now deceased Led Zeppelin drummer John Bohnam's son Jason Bonham on the kit. He was not only paying homage to the mighty Led Zeppelin, but also to his father. This should have been recorded and released on an album...IMHO. Absolutely brilliant performance!
Thanks for the info!
Such an emotionally powerful song with an emotionally powerful singer. Great review as usual!
I'm glad you liked it, Joel!
I've watched this dozens of times and I get chills every time. I believe in numerous interviews over the years the ladies have stated that Zeppelin was a big influence on them back in the day. I saw them way back in 1977 on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ at Convention Hall. The date was August 16th, the day Elvis died, during their encore they did "Rock n Roll", by Zeppelin, to honor the King.
Love your reaction thnx for vid ❤❤🎉
Amazing just incredible
Glad yoou enjoyed it, Money Penny!
Ann and Nancy were not on speaking terms during this presentation... And yet they delivered this amazing performance. Such talent and professionalism! Love these sisters!
Highly professional and not unusual in a close working environment.
Why were they not speaking? What's the buzzz?
2:49 is when Page realized if only time could go back to where it all started where he could rock the stage one more time with his dragon attire and double neck.
you are so wrong about how me. plant was thinking. he was very proud and very emotional about the beautiful song he performed many years ago. I could tell it was almost bringing tears to his eyes.
Robert said the only person he ever said yes to doing stairway to heaven is Ann Wilson . He said she is the only one to ever do it right.
This is my favorite song ... and I like to hear it when I'm alone ..
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@kentamplin if your going to have anyone sing Zeppelin to the Kings of rock well then have the QUEEN OF ROCK ANN WILSON! Perfection!
I never saw this until today. I'm behind on the times I guess LOL. I always enjoy your take so I'm now watching your video! Thanks in advance.
Masterpiece
She's stunning.
Very nice!
the bes girld rock duo for one of the best bands woooo
Rock on! 👍
I've seen pics from around the time of Heart's Little Queen tour (1978 or so) of Ann and Nancy sitting outdoors backstage at some event with Robert and Jimmy. The article I saw the pics had Nancy mentioning that Jimmy played some of his guitar work with her, which in turn helped improve when she'd play his parts in cover versions. So the bands did know each other from long back.
Trivia: The guitarist that did the solo was married for 13 years to Mackenzie Phillips (oldest daughter Julie on the original One Day at a Time). That show grabbed musicians, since Valerie Bertenelli (who played the younger daughter Barbara on the same show) spent most of her adult life married to Eddie Van Halen.
Thanks for the thought!
Robert Plant is biting the flesh inside his cheek (hence the long face), staring without blinking, because at any given moment, he could lose it and break down with sobs.
This is the face of a man who does not want to lose control.
A. Riddlemethis♥️
Ken the look on your face as you listen brought tears to my eyes. I love seeing your joy :)
Thank you!
