CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Muse (Barkhad Abdi) takes command of the ship, demanding that Captain Phillips (Tom Hanks) produce the crew.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks teams with Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass and screenwriter Billy Ray to tell the true story of Richard Phillips, a U.S. cargo-ship captain who surrendered himself to Somali pirates so that his crew would be freed. Captain Richard Phillips (Hanks) and his crew are carrying freight around the Horn of Africa when four Somali pirates forcefully take over their ship, the MV Maersk Alabama. While Phillips' team follow his orders to hide until they hear him give the safe word, the captain and a few essential crew members remain on the bridge as the heavily armed pirates make their way up to seize control of the ship. But the interlopers soon discover something that sends them into a furious rage: After effectively shutting down the ship, Phillips explains that the Maersk had malfunctioned when the crew pushed it too hard in an attempt to evade the attackers. In order to appease their leader, the ruthless Muse (Barkhad Abdi), Phillips offers them the $30,000 that's been locked in the ship safe. But that isn't enough, and Muse demands that Phillips help him search every corner of the ship to root out the terrified crew. When that plan fails, the pirates agree to take the cash from the safe and flee in the Maersk's lifeboat. At the last minute, however, they kidnap Phillips in the hope of supplementing their take with a sizable ransom -- a decision that leads to a tense standoff with the U.S. Navy, who would sooner see the lifeboat sunk with Phillips inside than allow it to reach Somalia.

Captain Phillips also apparently never offered to sacrifice himself for the crew in real life

@@user-vu8zy1pu3v Hijacking ships and demanding a ransom to let the people in them go isn't "protecting their country" or "fighting back", it's piracy by definition. Plus, many of the ships that were hijacked weren't even heading to Somalia or its sea, but were just passing through.

I will never able to wrap my mind around the fact that some random Somali limo driver from Minnesota that never did acting before, was able to pull off such an incredible job. Everything about his gesture, the way he speaks, the way he interacts with the hostages or the fellow pirates is a jaw dropping piece of art and of realism like almost never seen before in the history of movie theater. Little did they know of Captain Phillips history...
In the 1930s he was a prison guard on death row. Then he was drafted into World War Two in the 1940s as a Army captain. After server in the army he commanded a battleship and fought German submarines. Once the war ended he went on to become an astronaut and fly an Apollo mission for NASA. Once he retired from NASA he decided to enlist back into the army and fight in Vietnam. Finally after the war ends he becomes a FedEx employee and becomes stranded on an island when his plane crashes. Luckily he survives and becomes a pilot for American Airlines and lands a plane in the Hudson River. With everything Captain Phillips has been through some skinny pirate bois aren’t gonna take him down.

Great scene, very intense. The guy who played the main pirate was 100% convincing, his mannerisms and tone were just expert level. Same as the other pirates. Just great acting , Hanks set the tone after the pirate said "I am the captain now" and the look Hanks gave the pirate was one of uncertainty and desperation. Then at 1:39 where he says "Easy I kill you....easy" that really set the tense situation off because the pirate was desperate for what he wanted, and the whole mood changed. The pirate guy at 1:47 when he says "You play...you play" he was superb as well, the guy looked crazy as hell and volatile.
This has to be one of the best scenes. The acting is just phenomenal on all fronts.

My company makes 67 billion a year..I get paid $23 an hour..move on!
You think people would have watched the film if the main name attached was the first time actor's? No way. The reason this film made $200 mill is because Tom Hanks is in it. If Tom Hanks is in it people know it will be a decent movie. Hanks payment could have come from the marketing budget because that's what got people into theatres to watch it.
Freaking 200 million and one of the main character gets only 60k and you all are supporting that? Seriously? We all know they deserved more. Not even a million? Freaking 60k. Normal people make more than that. I though they got paid really good but that's shame to that movie.
