Accoring to SOLAS(Safety of Life at Sea) in case of distress for example your ship is on fire that is out of control and you need to abandon ship once you get into freefall boat you have to take 1 seasickness pill immediately and consistently take 1 per day just because you have limited resources out there and you must not throw up if you do throw up you get dehydrated but the water for each person is limited per day until someone from the SAR(Search and Rescue) operation finds you. I dont think anyone can really fully understand Somali Pirates unless you live where they live and experience what they do, unlike a majority of the rest of the world they dont have any opportunities whatsoever.
it's pretty straight forward actually. They are broke, have no education, no jobs and essentially not economy to fall back on. but they got a fuck ton of guns and people hanging around doing nothing. So they do something about their situation which is to become pirates. And based on their track record I'd say they are doing quite well for themselves

I thought this couldn't be true after watching the film..how did they hit all 3 with the bobbing and movement almost unbelievable, even at half the distance I'd be doubtful. If there was no bobbing easy shot of assume!
you know, not to question negotiation tactics, cuz i know nothing about them, but if they ask for food and water, wouldnt it be logical to put some sort of a sedative in them, that does its job after about 30 mins and does it good, so that they all pass out and they can be safely arrested and rescued? just a thought.
keleflefboy84 I can tell you that would've been a TERRIBLE idea.No way to judge their weight etc, (also the amount of hydration/nutrition they got in them) so you could never just guess the dosage. Might as well poison instead of sedate...Remember the hostage thing in the Russian theater when they tried the sedation gas? Yeah..they ended up killing the hostages too (by overdose).
---not to mention that the entire sedation idea has never worked anyways. Even since the Cold War spy days, they would try it and end up with a corpse half the time. I watched that BS movie you guys mean, and it was mostly horsecrap but quasi-entertaining. The real deal was they sniped, then one operator (maybe two) climbed down the tow line, hopped in and and shot the pirates again. It is in Mark Owen's book as well I believe. That WAS the best tactical approach, I'd guess
***** oh yea, no i get that, im not blaming any1 for killing those 3 pirates (if thats what you meant) and yea i also know that, but i just assumed if they are all hungry, they'd all eat at the same time... but then again it could knock them out at different times still, so yea sedative in food isnt the best idea, but there's always gas or something :P or not... i suppose lethal force is easier, and trust me, im not the person that values criminal lives but if there could be a way, it could be used instead of killing :)

Pretty much everyone that works on merchant vessel knows these things because they pass the STCW(Standards of Training, and Certification of officers on Watch) minimum training requirements.

Great job US navy.

What a stunning clip. Loved the movie, love this even more!
The should put heavy sedatives in the food and water, knock them all out
yeah but what if they are smart and one doesnt drink it to see what the effects are

They woudlnt all pass out at the same times tho so when the first goes down they will get angry and that risks the captains life

Came here after watching Captain Philips during this lockdown period. Everyone Stay Safe Stay Home .
That entire situation could have been avoided if the corporation which owns the Maersk Albama had invested in some proper defences against 4 men in a little dinghy. Haha
Chum Bucket no! The reason why it even happened is because they took a shorter path to save money they where warned!
Castle Byers I saw a video about that. While they took the shorter route, if they took the longer they were still in operating distance of some pirates
The pirates had a hostage, Captain Phillip.
Newman Waters no shit. He meant that maersk should have had some .50 cals or something on the ship to protect it from being boarded in the first place
@@justanotherasian4395 there’s an international agreement on a no gun policy when going through Somali waters. The pirates on the other hand are criminals they don’t follow the law obviously.

+Adrian Nava Watch your language! You might suffer a heart attack lol :-P
Alecxace Well.... It started a looong time back where Somalis where pissed off of i think Spanish fishermen emptying the sea for fish. it has since then escalated into a booming business. Hostages in good condition can get them a shitload of money
Many countries all over the world are as poor as Somalia, even in USA. people have to live under bridges and look for food on dumpsters.
Your argument is very lime excuse for kidnaping and asking several million dollars,
I was reading they have gotten as much as 10 million.
Yeah I would get your excuse and kidnap a millionaire and ask for 8 million dollars, since any poor person gets to do it, since we are poor.
1justice2012 your comment just made my iq go down
1justice2012 yea but Somalia is right by the most important shipping lane on the planet. so they have prime reason top become pirates with their dismal economic state. They have a unique opportunity and they are taking it whether or not you like it, it is what it is deal with it

Wow man this video was 11 years ago
Well I am here after watching the film captain philips
you know, not to question negotiation tactics, cuz i know nothing about them, but if they ask for food and water, wouldnt it be logical to put some sort of a sedative in them, that does its job after about 30 mins and does it good, so that they all pass out and they can be safely arrested and rescued? just a thought.
exactly my thought when i was eatching captain philips.
keleflefboy84 I can tell you that would've been a TERRIBLE idea.No way to judge their weight etc, (also the amount of hydration/nutrition they got in them) so you could never just guess the dosage.
That WAS the best tactical approach, I'd guess
never said i was an expert :P but thinking what has been tried and failed is not bad still :)
*****
oh yea, no i get that, im not blaming any1 for killing those 3 pirates (if thats what you meant) and yea i also know that, but i just assumed if they are all hungry, they'd all eat at the same time... but then again it could knock them out at different times still, so yea sedative in food isnt the best idea, but there's always gas or something :P or not... i suppose lethal force is easier, and trust me, im not the person that values criminal lives but if there could be a way, it could be used instead of killing :)
Great discipline and execution, just super great - well done Guyz

@9:56 that's not two SEALs. That's a 24th STS operator and SEAL. The OP wasn't as impressive as the movie and documentary portray it to be. The shots didn't require tier 1 snipers, but they were there and took it. Any SEAL with a 416 could have got the job done.
