Great advice given by Derek. Focus on school because education will pay your bills in future ;) Good to see Jimsel smile a bit. I can't imagine the pressure on her shoulders. She is a strong young lady. Greetings from Germany Tom
Some great advice and wisdom from Derek. The mentoring and also the expectations you put foreward is so important and the only path that will lead to a sustainable way out of their situation. The money donations help short term with crossing over some obstacles on their journey to put the advice and mentoring into action to help them help themselves. You do such a great job balancing the line. On top of a tough life situation, it must also be tough, especially for a seemingly honest and hard working person like Jimsel, having to ask for/accept money donations for everyday living that many of us take for granted with the payslip comming in every month. So, kudos to Jimsel as well.
Derek, I did similar to what you are doing while I lived in Thailand, back when i was flush with the monies, I helped many families into business, they were all bright eyed and happy to see me, with joy lol, UNTIL the money ran out of course, then I was no good in their eyes, shame on them I say, but I am who I am, I cannot change, I love to help people when I have spare funds.. I do not think we really learn mate, I wasted on the wrong people many many hundreds of thousands of $, BUT EH HO.... It's a new day tomorrow...
Yes, Jonathan. Only difference with me is... I already anticipate it. Hoping for the few to prove myself wrong. Success stories like Gel and Ken outweighs all the failures and disappointment
I'm so impressed Derek with you everyday and every video that you are able to set boundaries. I feel it sometimes very sad that family members use other family members to get what they want or need through guilt. My fiance's family tries that with her all the time and we have to realize the struggles that Filipinas have when they're with an American. they don't always let us know how they're feeling about their family members constantly contacting them and asking them for money. Our fiance and wives have it difficult also. I just wanted to recognize that. take care of everybody and I hope you have a Happy thanksgiving!
You are absolutely right. We are in Manila now and this very day, we witnessed an elderly lady directing and pointing out "foreigners" to a kid that doesn't look more than 10 yrs old and he runs to ask gor money
Derek, she unable to control the money. If her family needs the money, she cannot stop giving it to them. You can’t stop this from happening. If you want to help, pay her bills yourself. One at a time. Know where the money goes. Any other way will fall.
I agree with you Eddy. But it's not sustainable for me to just do things for people. I don't want the dependency. I just want to mentor them and tell them truths. If they are not receptive, then it is not meant to be. But it's my desire to mentor them to break that cycle that is your point
husband speaking - not really following this story but you have my like and I am letting the story run to the end. It is 6:30 pm today in Vistamar , above New Town. Just sitting on the porch enjoying the Breeze.😃
Nice young lady who has like so many others, lots of struggles to deal with. She mentioned she was depressed at some point but feels better now. I would not say it was or was not depression but just want to share the thought that depression is not suddenly gone when a problem is solved. People who have depression know how to hide it and even do feel great on there good days. But on the bad days, the days are very bad. Don't let this unnoticed. Just checking up from time to time, having some one on one talks, could make a big difference. Those who feel good are better resistent to problems as well. But when I view her bodylanguage in general, she could use some uplifting talks from time to time. It can be as simple as just some random text or call to check how she's doing (if she can be reached). Yes I know this is just a moment in time and we don't get to know her by watching this video. But that makes it even more concerning to notice such ... Obvious I can be totally wrong as well
Yes, Dennis. We make ourselves available to those we sponsor. I concur on your point on depression. From the previous video, she shared a very dark past and we do listen when she shares
It occurs to me that you have to become more than you simply wanted to be. You now need to become a sleuth, a psychologist and an accountant. As this “job” becomes overwhelming, you must yearn for the days when being a philanthropist was so simple and heartwarming.
The culture in the Philippines, is pretty harsh for the kids though, as the females of the family, still support the parents at any time of life when they obtain money, it feels to me her parents knows she is now getting support money wise for schooling, and they are now placing pressure on the poor girl to pay their bills, and as a loving child, she is torn apart to do what is best, shame on her parents for the pressure being put on her at the crucial time of life.
Jimsel’s phone quite possibly could be on silent, or sound is turned off too. Also, if notifications are on notices pop up on the screen, unless notifications are off.
I dont think its strange she wanna help out with the electric bill. Thats a big reason so many come to work in Europe and the US....to help family back home. She look tired, think she is doing good. Working hard in school and work. She need you and Ai not j6st for the money, just some peptalk and shoulder come a long way. 🥰🥰
@qadventures so, young, healthy, able bodied. He sent her to you to get his electric bill paid. Come on Derek. Are we to believe that in that society a 35 yo healthy man can no longer support his family and needs our donations through you to make it right?
@Gringo27857 aaahhh... I see where this is going. I never asked for your donation nor anyone's donation with 1 exception to a 3 yr old child with a dire heart condition. I do this on my own anyway in a country I hold dear in my heart. I document and share my experiences on UA-cam for those who WANTS to watch. Viewers want to participate and I kindly accept while absorbing the processing fee from whatever payment platform. You spin it however you want to spin it and I will continue to do what I do
Derek it appears you need to have the same type off camera meeting with the parents emphasizing for them to leave her alone while she is in school. You can drop gems all day long but if they are in her ears pressuring her directly or indirectly it doesn’t provide for an environment to concentrate on herself … you fixed the parents roof …. Isn’t that enough for them ??????
Derek, her father is young, healthy, able bodied. He sent her to you to get his electric bill paid. Come on Derek. Are we to believe that in that society a 35 yo healthy man can no longer support his family and needs our donations through you to make it right? Sorry man but your soft spoken polite words no longer make any sense. What kind of mission are you on here?
Great advice given by Derek.

🙏😁
She's so young to have to worry about school/bills/jobs - I wish her the best, and hope all gets better soon. Thank you so much Tom and Derek!

Great job Derek giving advice and being so caring!
Humbling

How much are you talking about yourselves we know most of that and we appreciate it, me for my part I would like to see more like a dialogue. 😊

I don't want to just drop some cash and let them fend for themselves, Jan. I have always wanted to see it through
@ You and I have always been on the same page, Derek. Unfortunately, the problem is bigger than all of us. 😩

A perspective I didn't realize till now
🤗👍

Yes Nina Anette. She needs major guidance
I forgot her back story . Why cant her father support the family?
It's difficult for men and women after 35 yrs of age to get a job here. He is a construction laborer where his boss went bankrupt

Too many ,,,,,U know likaaa,,,,
Never give a lump sum of money. their family comes first, Get them to put together a budget for her education. Only give small amounts each month.
That's the intention

Great suggestion. Will do
Derek, you are getting push back because your viewers have an expectation that you have done due diligence off camera. This is getting silly now.

👌
why doesn't she gets married so her husband can support her dreams?
You are joking, right? Have you seen how many young women are looking after children with no husband in sight? And divorce is illegal there!
@@janonthelam3418 That's why she needs to find a good man.
That's not the solution
@@qadventures What is the solution then? asking for sponsorships ? eventually she needs to find a good husband that values work and education.
