Like most car reviewers I think Doug's perceptions are warped by driving exotic/super cars that have a ton of HP. In my mind if you're driving on public roads you can't make use of a super powerful engine. There's a reason the Miata sells so well, you just don't need more power than that if you're driving on 55-65 mph speed limited highways.

The third cup holder is so your dad can put a paper cup with water in while you make deliveries. Subaru noted the need for this. The fourth only makes sense if someone needed both a hot and a cold drink.

I watched this before and I thought it wouldn't be much different from the limited trim, but hell. This car is SOOOOOOOO much fun compared to the limited trim. The amount of stuff you can do from stock is incomparable to the limited trim which is obvious BUT brz ts was so much better than my expectation! So glad I got this car. I thought it would be little boring to move on from rotary engine, but I was totally wrong. I'm in love with this car.

As someone who owns a BRZ Limited in Automatic, the button between the Traction off and Traction off Track on switches is a little rocker switch that has a "sport mode" where the car will rev higher before shifting and a "snow" mode where the car gets reigned in more by the transmission (as far as I can tell, I haven't gotten to use it too much yet).
And before anyone asks, I got it in automatic because it's a daily driver and if I want to have fun I switch it into manual mode and slap around the shift paddles.
my mazda has that cool-engine temp light, I like it
Im my mx5 manual it claims the light lets you know that the heat wont blow hot yet. I always shift below 4k while its on to warm it up easy.

The coolant cold light is from the Crosstrek, and other brands' economy cars like the Yaris and Fit. Instead of a separate coolant temp gauge, its cheaper to put coolant cold and overheat lights.
The blue engine temp light (to show the engine is still cold) is something I've seen in some Honda and Mazda models, too.

My ND Miata has a blue temperature gauge warning light at start-up, too. It’s not just on this Subie.
I almost bought a BRZ a few years ago. Test drove a couple and really liked it. But I’m glad I waited and bought my ND Miata. (An ‘18, w/155 hp, not a ‘19 w/181 hp.) I bought a GT, so with some body roll it probably doesn’t handle as well as one of the upscale BRZs, but I’d contend it’s just more fun to daily drive, especially with the top down.

My favorite feature of the BRZ/FRS/86... the two additional cup holders in the rear masquerading as seats.
with the rear camera time out setting its really nice for when your kind of rolling out of reverse into 1st, I have a 2019 impreza hatch sport and its really nice for backing out of tight spaces

Don't think I'll ever get tired of the styling. One thing I noticed on the tS is the lack of fog lights. Gotta have my fog lights, lol. I drive a BRZ, and I love it, but Doug is absolutely right, it needs more power. Plenty of people have done expensive mods, but the average person simply can't afford all of that nonsense. I'd love to get +100 HP on my BRZ, but it's not a priority.

After watching a lot of Doug’s videos I’ve realised that the way he describes things varies on the car and more so its price. Like in this car, how you can choose how long the reverse camera stays on, he makes fun of it for being “over configurable” but if he were sitting in a Bugatti and that was a feature he’d say “now that... is attention to detail”

Make the BRZ and the 86 with a MINIMUM 280 HORSEPOWER and I guarantee you'll have one of the fastest selling cars ever. The concensus is the same across every review, these cars need more power.
The BRZ was one of the fastest selling cars ever when it came out (with 200 horsepower) in the Summer of 2012. Trust me, I was there.

Ben Chesterman you're right, nobody would pay that much when the wrx is a more solid investment. But the front engine rear wheel drive formula under 30k is in desperate need of car like the BRZ. If Subaru and Toyota can figure out how to bump up that power as close to 300 as possible while keeping it under 30k then I'd be happy. What I'm not happy about is Subaru selling a bunch of pointless body modifications when that money on parts and engineering could have been spent on the engine which would warrant a price bump.
Got my 2020 BRZ manual in Pearl White w/ the Performance Package (kinda close to the Ceramic White of the TS) and with the crackle red aluminum intake manifold and red Brembos it really looks trick out of the factory. I find it has the perfect amount of power to help you not get hurt or arrested considering this thing handles like its on rails around corners and is a pretty much a street legal go kart that makes anyone feel like Mario Andretti. Won't win any drag races, but that doesn't require any skill at all, just a large bank account. Love my BRZ. The poor man's Porsche Cayman.

Honest opinion from you guys...is adding hid headlights to my Ralliart considered rice?
0-60 under 7 seconds and just under 15 seconds for the 1/4 was pretty typical acceleration for early 60s Corvettes and XKEs. I'd love to have one but the BRZ is far more practical way to get a similar driving experience.
Actually it is rather in same performance and power as say a 944 Porsche, Gen 1 RX7 or a Nissan 280ZX.
When VW brought the beetle back in 98, it's cluster didn't have a temp gauge. It also has a blue temp symbol that will go out when the engine warms up, would turn red if overheating.
The awesome thing about the BRZ, GT86, and FRS is that they're fun AND affordable. They should 100% have more power. 250hp and 220ft/lbs, for example, would leave most satisfied and not needing more. However, in doing that you make it less affordable to the masses, and I think that is more of their goal, which is something you have to appreciate. If you really want more power, the Edelbrock supercharger kit (which literally everyone should know about) is CARB legal across all 50 states, super easy to install, comes with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, gets you up to around 240hp and 190ft/lbs AT THE WHEELS, and probably costs less than the price increase would be from the car making that as stock power.
Overall, it's a love/hate relationship with these cars, lol.

The best joke was right under our noses.
It's not just the "200 hp" figure that the problem....it's the power delivery. The torque dip right when you need it around 3,500 RPM is just the WORST!!! As soon as you're at 5,000 RPM it does sort of go, but it's just not enough :/

I feel you man, I have had one for a year and I’m already thinking of what to do to fix it. The dip is an easy-ish fix with a different exhaust and a tune at about 1500$ (ugh), but the power is pricy. The different exhaust would help the power a little though
I currently have the JDL catless UEL headers, MagnaFlow Catback exhaust, and the OFT stage 2 tune. The dip is gone and the torque curve feels pretty linear, but the power band is still not enough for my daily driving needs. I don't want to be at 5,500 RPM to be in the GD powerband.... Eventually I'm looking to go with the Edelbrock supercharger kit way down the road, but for now while I'm paying the car off I want the JDL high flow cat overpipe/midpipe combo, Perrin 3" big MAF intake, and Delicious tuning bluetooth FlexFuel kit. I think that will maybe be enough to keep me satiated for now...still so much money for so little gain, but once you go forced induction you can really take advantage of these modifications!
I'm not going to go FI until the car is paid off though because tragedy happens with these motors man...people chuck rods on stock NA platforms haha
