Yeah guys, 4 are just perfect because in my country at least we usually get a coffee on the go and a water bottle for free, so if you are 2 people inside you are gonna already use all 4 of them.
Solution: Slap a turbo on this for ~300HP and finally give the WRX a new engine making ~450HP so it can be competitive again. Why won't they do it. Both cars are unpowered.

Don't think I'll ever get tired of the styling. One thing I noticed on the tS is the lack of fog lights. Gotta have my fog lights, lol. I drive a BRZ, and I love it, but Doug is absolutely right, it needs more power. Plenty of people have done expensive mods, but the average person simply can't afford all of that nonsense. I'd love to get +100 HP on my BRZ, but it's not a priority.
It's not just the "200 hp" figure that the problem....it's the power delivery. The torque dip right when you need it around 3,500 RPM is just the WORST!!! As soon as you're at 5,000 RPM it does sort of go, but it's just not enough :/
I feel you man, I have had one for a year and I’m already thinking of what to do to fix it. The dip is an easy-ish fix with a different exhaust and a tune at about 1500$ (ugh), but the power is pricy. The different exhaust would help the power a little though
I currently have the JDL catless UEL headers, MagnaFlow Catback exhaust, and the OFT stage 2 tune. The dip is gone and the torque curve feels pretty linear, but the power band is still not enough for my daily driving needs. I don't want to be at 5,500 RPM to be in the GD powerband.... Eventually I'm looking to go with the Edelbrock supercharger kit way down the road, but for now while I'm paying the car off I want the JDL high flow cat overpipe/midpipe combo, Perrin 3" big MAF intake, and Delicious tuning bluetooth FlexFuel kit. I think that will maybe be enough to keep me satiated for now...still so much money for so little gain, but once you go forced induction you can really take advantage of these modifications! I'm not going to go FI until the car is paid off though because tragedy happens with these motors man...people chuck rods on stock NA platforms haha

Ben Chesterman you're right, nobody would pay that much when the wrx is a more solid investment. But the front engine rear wheel drive formula under 30k is in desperate need of car like the BRZ. If Subaru and Toyota can figure out how to bump up that power as close to 300 as possible while keeping it under 30k then I'd be happy. What I'm not happy about is Subaru selling a bunch of pointless body modifications when that money on parts and engineering could have been spent on the engine which would warrant a price bump.
The awesome thing about the BRZ, GT86, and FRS is that they're fun AND affordable. They should 100% have more power. 250hp and 220ft/lbs, for example, would leave most satisfied and not needing more. However, in doing that you make it less affordable to the masses, and I think that is more of their goal, which is something you have to appreciate. If you really want more power, the Edelbrock supercharger kit (which literally everyone should know about) is CARB legal across all 50 states, super easy to install, comes with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, gets you up to around 240hp and 190ft/lbs AT THE WHEELS, and probably costs less than the price increase would be from the car making that as stock power. Overall, it's a love/hate relationship with these cars, lol.
Joshua McLenachen they are def not worth 38k for being slow af and not much fun without the power. Maybe a used one for 15k is worth it but never a new one.
Like most car reviewers I think Doug's perceptions are warped by driving exotic/super cars that have a ton of HP. In my mind if you're driving on public roads you can't make use of a super powerful engine. There's a reason the Miata sells so well, you just don't need more power than that if you're driving on 55-65 mph speed limited highways.

FYI doug, the blue color on the titanium exhausts isnt an applied finish, its natural oxidation of titanium when it gets hot. They were silver colored when they were installed and as they heat cycled they developed the blue color

I'm telling you. If they just add a damn turbo then more enthusiasts would love to get it. We love stock turbod cars. Gti stage 1 gets +100 hp and +100 Lb Torque. Brz has so much potential but not with the current setup.
Linear naturally aspirated power and simplicity is nice. I think upping the drivetrain to a 2.2L would give the power and torque numbers people are wanting. 205hp is just too low, and that notorious midrange torque dip exists.

Dear Subaru and Toyota,
Make the BRZ and the 86 with a MINIMUM 280 HORSEPOWER and I guarantee you'll have one of the fastest selling cars ever. The concensus is the same across every review, these cars need more power.
The BRZ was one of the fastest selling cars ever when it came out (with 200 horsepower) in the Summer of 2012. Trust me, I was there.

Ben Chesterman you're right, nobody would pay that much when the wrx is a more solid investment. But the front engine rear wheel drive formula under 30k is in desperate need of car like the BRZ. If Subaru and Toyota can figure out how to bump up that power as close to 300 as possible while keeping it under 30k then I'd be happy. What I'm not happy about is Subaru selling a bunch of pointless body modifications when that money on parts and engineering could have been spent on the engine which would warrant a price bump.
The awesome thing about the BRZ, GT86, and FRS is that they're fun AND affordable. They should 100% have more power. 250hp and 220ft/lbs, for example, would leave most satisfied and not needing more. However, in doing that you make it less affordable to the masses, and I think that is more of their goal, which is something you have to appreciate. If you really want more power, the Edelbrock supercharger kit (which literally everyone should know about) is CARB legal across all 50 states, super easy to install, comes with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty, gets you up to around 240hp and 190ft/lbs AT THE WHEELS, and probably costs less than the price increase would be from the car making that as stock power.
Overall, it's a love/hate relationship with these cars, lol.

Like most car reviewers I think Doug's perceptions are warped by driving exotic/super cars that have a ton of HP. In my mind if you're driving on public roads you can't make use of a super powerful engine. There's a reason the Miata sells so well, you just don't need more power than that if you're driving on 55-65 mph speed limited highways.

FYI doug, the blue color on the titanium exhausts isnt an applied finish, its natural oxidation of titanium when it gets hot. They were silver colored when they were installed and as they heat cycled they developed the blue color

Yeah, but the miata is lighter, and doesn't have a torque dip. If the brz had 215 hp to the wheel and no torque dip it would get way less hate.

I'm telling you. If they just add a damn turbo then more enthusiasts would love to get it. We love stock turbod cars. Gti stage 1 gets +100 hp and +100 Lb Torque. Brz has so much potential but not with the current setup.
Linear naturally aspirated power and simplicity is nice. I think upping the drivetrain to a 2.2L would give the power and torque numbers people are wanting. 205hp is just too low, and that notorious midrange torque dip exists.
@@thatoneotherotherguy exactly. I've driven plenty of cars and reviewed a few. After driving some more modern cars, 200 hp is too slow especially with 150 lb feet. City driving requires you to Rev it up to keep up go speeds with normal cars like corollas and mini vans. That's saddening
Honestly, if they had just put the Fa20ditt from the 2015+ Wrx models, into the Ts it would have been better in my opinion, I mean I love the way it feels in the Wrx's it might even be better in this if that was the case.

Everyone always wants more power. But I know why the BRZ will NEVER get the boost in power it deserves... Subaru simply will not have their halo car, the WRX, challenged.
bliglum that’s a good point, a boosted BRZ might cut into WRX sales, or at least not seen to be profitable. They should just make a super limited run of factory turbo ones at like 2000 models

I live in America, we do not have curvy roads. Its straight and flat for the most part. Unless all you do is go on highway offramps and onramps all day. The car LOOKS fast, everyone will try to race you. It will get very annoying.
