Has the M42adapter crop correction? FF to MFT is almost a crop factor of 2 to 1. So for a Full Frame nifty fifty mm equivalent you'd have to buy something like an 28mm vintage lens right? And I can't find the "list below" of vintage lenses you like.
I am still rocking the adaptor with npf 970 batteries today and it is the most cost effective solution for battery power. You can buy 2 of those batteries for like 60$ and everyone last you at least 3/4 hours
This video speaks to me and is exactly what I needed! You are so right about the other youtubers and what they tell you you need... $650 speed booster so I can use the $700 lens... hard pass. I'm an editor who just needs to be able to film some solid corporate videos. That's it. Cheers and thanks for the real talk!
I just switched to Cfats 2.0 cards on my 4K and I can't 't tell you how much easier it is now to use. No more struggling with the stupid external drives and the awful mounts that are available. It's so much more pleasant an experience. I say skip the external and invest. You'll thank me for it later.
C-Fast is a great alternative as well! I've used all three of the storage methods available but price wise and how my workflow is, SSD's just work way better for what I do. But no dig on C-Fast at all!
@@FrameVoyager The best investment for the 4k is the titla screen because not only do you get a far more functional screen but you also get internal SSD so best of both worlds!
I looked into those as well to talk about for this video. And they are a great alternative as well. I just figured M42 might be slightly easier to talk about and point people to than C-Mount but it's a great suggestion as well!
Ehhh good video! Congrats on your 100th video man! Vintage lenses is a great suggestion, and you can always find a solid 4K or even 6K on the used market. Don't always have to go new.
Appreciate it! Can't believe I've made 100 videos. Kind of weird haha. And for sure! Nothing wrong with used at all if it's in good condition. Just so many people say you can't use this camera without x,y and z and $1k-$2k. Just isn't true
You did not mention that with vintage full frame glass, you'd need to look into wide angle lenses to account for 2x crop factor. A sweet spot would be 24mm full frame, which would give one about 50mm focal length on pocket 4K. A good 24-28mm fast vintage lens can be pricey. For the same amount of money one can get a fixed focal length Panasonic Lumix lens in native MFT.
beautifully argued...you correct...we need to build our gear as we climb up...this way we also develop a style...of our own...and improve on it...whats nice is having less stuff...forces you to really get creative in your shooting style...and thats what its all about in the end...your style...and your story...wow i actually said that ? nice..i am growing well in this content world...thank you...
Hey Great video, I totally agree with you, about vintage lens but actually you could go the TT artisan MFT lens way as well...specially the 50mm F1.2 is nice. About vintage totally agree RD mount for example...radioactive or not I have 1 Gen Vivitar pump f3.5 70-210 and it is fantastic almost parfocal on Viltrox Fmount speed booster. Actually great speed booster for the price 70$...no need for metabones in the begining and the Vivitar was in pristine condition...if you find some first gen 50 years old with 2* teleconverter like me if the glass is good take it...this pump system that you focus and zoom with the same gear is great for filming handheld with little practice I don't know why they abondonned the design it is mega fast to focus and zoom in the same time...
For sure! For me I have had the most experience with M42 lenses so figured I'd go that route for this video but you're right! So many vintage lens routes you could go!
For my barebones set up: Metabones speed booster from my gh4 days. 0.71x Battery: Core SWX Powerbase Edge LITE Battery Storage: 2 128 GB sd and a 1tb SSD mounted directly on to the camera with a cellphone adapter and horseshoe mount. Lens: I cycle between my sigma 18-35, my vintage Nikkor 50mm lens and my 85mm Nikon lens.
Absolutely! I just through those in there as options. You can only spend around $117 after the camera purchase and have everything you need to start filming
Thanks for the video … has anything changed since making this video? Other than Ssd’s of course .. I’m ready to step into 4k video, and you’ve helped me committing moving forward … :)
Thanks for this great tips, I live in Amsterdam and now im gonna search for a vintage lense. Btw, dont you think you need something fot stabalising the footage? Like a gimbal or tripod
@@zechenwei1139 Good to know, thank you for that. I've been considering a P4K for some time, but have been concerned about the discontinuation of the T5 drives.

Hi there, Great content, thanks. I have many questions for you about this camera. I have been using it for some time, but I really am having problems with the noise and with the white balance, it really has a yellow predominance. Hope you read these. Bye
Hey man.. you say vintage lens? My dad have lots of vintage lens but the brand is nikon, can still fit on BM camera 4k??? I will check if he have still the fixed lens. Thanks man .
my BMPCC4K bricked after 7.9 update. any suggestions? Blackmagic has known about this update issue for may months apparently and have not done anything to fix it!!!
Some people are worried that radioactive lenses might be bad for the sensor. On a still camera the shutter protects the sensor but on a video camera the radiation exposure increses. I think I might still have super takumar and a bunch of other vintage lenses. I bought my lenses at the time when it wasn't cool to use these, almost 20 years ago. Later I sold most and even made some profit. I do regret selling some of the lenses now. I had an almost mint 16mm Zenitar in the original packaging. Although, I tend to think that the buyer probably had more use for it than I had and I wish it has served well.
Yeahhh, I've talked with a lot of people who owned them before I bought one. Actually doing a video on it here soon! Have a hazmat suit and everything lol. But from what I can tell, as long as you don't just leave the lens on your camera for days on end you're totally fine. But it's super interesting isn't it?
bought one, discovered it can't do 4k over hdmi out, returned it. Went back to the GH5 I was going to sell. Yes, being able to record to nvme over usb-c directly from the camera is amazing and every camera should support that, but if you can only monitor at 1080p, someone should have been fired. Even my Ninja Inferno from 2017 is a 4k hdmi monitor.

BTW, the samsung T7 drives also work perfectly for the BMPCC4K camera, and they even fit in the T5 holders.
Initial reports said that the T7 drives didn't work with the P4K, was this addressed later in firmware?
