      If you do 12:1 once you edit it then is it also faster to edit than something shot in 3:1 or 4:1?

      @@rccpromotions 12:1 is actually more resource intensive on the computer than 3:1. If you plan on doing heavy grading or Fusion nodes, then go for a lower compression ratio.

      And yes, I totally agree. The Pocket 4k is a powerhouse with it's adaptability and phenomenal price. When you consider media storage especially, 4k files are for more optimal than 6k, and I am of the belief that 4k is more than enough to shoot a movie, tv show or any other type of media. It's all about the image quality over the pixel resolution, something I wish more folks would acknowledge sometimes.

    I think its worth noting that for sports or action scenes people may want constant quality (subsequently larger file sizes) and for more still shots without a lot of movement constant bitrate is probably fine (like you said 12:1 for this YT video looks killer). easiest way to make a quick decision on the lot

    So basically to get the most absolute best quality (without caring about file size) the best option is Q0?

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 роки тому +5

      Technically, yes. It will always insure that you have the correct bitrate for what is happening. With a range of 110 - 274 MB/s vs 3:1 constant at a bitrate of 183 constant. I do find that constant bitrate works fine as well as long as you adjust it for what you are filming. The more complexity, the more bitrate you should be using. Constant quality really just makes it easy so you don't have to think about it while doing it. The tradeoff is that you don't really know how long you'll have to film because of the constant fluctuation of the bitrate. That's why I typically use this in tricky situations like scuba diving because it's hard to adjust settings constantly while you try not to drown! haha

    Do you know what things you get or what you lose when you go from 12:1 to 8:1 to 3:1 compresion? i meant what can you do in a 3:1 compresion that you can not do in a 12:1 compresion Braw?

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 роки тому +1

      You lose information when you compress essentially. This can be ok, but when there is a lot of movement or small particles, etc. in the shot you may want that extra bitrate as it gives you a cleaner image. I made an update to this video that gives a little bit more clarity

    I actually always film in Q5, it's a bit unpredictable with file sizes at times, but i learned live with it. Do you have examples for scenes were i should bump it up to Q0 like filming in low light maybe or scenes with higher dynamic range?

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 роки тому +2

      Hmmm... Clips besides the ones in the video? I would say something like this video example would be good (scuba diving shots all shot at Q0) --> ua-cam.com/video/JCPyu50teS0/v-deo.html
      And maybe this video (that one sunrise timelapse in this was at Q0)--> ua-cam.com/video/Cd20TlT5F0o/v-deo.html
      Honestly anything that has a lot of movement in the shot should be at a higher compression rate. Think confetti or bubbles or fine detail stuff as well as darker or over exposed environments that you just absolutely need the shot to work. That's when I would use it, otherwise I rely on constant bitrate and change it based on the situation.
      Hope that makes sense! Have another video coming out this Friday that has a ton of shots that were on Q0

      @@sold-productions oh yeah, the difference really is just the bitrate. Q5 in most situations will work great! But Q0 for me is when you need to get a good shot and you can't screw it up. Hope that helps!

    This BM Raw drives me nuts.
    I bought my BMPCC4K with firmware 6.9.1 and edit in Resolve 15 because my old Mac Pro doesn't run higher versions. RAW recoded on SD cards was running fine in R 15.
    I then bought a Samsung T7 usb-c drive to be able to record 3:1 bitrates in raw.
    In order for BMPCC4K to properly recognize and record on the drive I had to upgrade the camera firmware to 7.3.
    Now Resolve 15 does not see my raw files anymore athough I can play them on the camera.
    What exactly is going on here and how can I solve the problem?
    On the BM website I could not find anything about any compatibility issues.
