I'm considering venting my gdi to atmosphere and changing my oil every 3,500 miles. More often due to the "sludge/contaminates" argument. Honestly the vapors vent out anyway so a lot of the bad stuff leaves... whatever is left can be dealt with by more frequent oil changes. Catch cans come with more problems especially for me in a climate where winters are extreme and the cans freeze. I have a non turbo dgi, so i don't see what the problem is with venting.

@@Too-Gq-For-You I have a new catch can and never hooked it up after installing it.
I ordered from 2 different companies what they advertised as PCV high vacuum hoses. Bullshit....they both sucked inwards and collapsed. So each time I put my stock set up back in. Now I will go with my PCV hose (3/4 inch inside diameter) , and run it down, with a breather filter clamped onto the end of this hose.
On the intake side, I ordered a block-off fitting.
Will install in about a week.

@@Too-Gq-For-You Even though the 4 foot of so called high vacuum pcv hose collapsed, I will still put some of it to use by just ventilating the crankcase to atmosphere.
I just today decided that instead of ordering an intake block-off kit for $25, I will go to the auto store tomorrow and buy a high quality rubber plug to clamp over the plastic nipple on my intake.
I'll plug it this way while venting the CC to atmosphere.

I have just putted a hose and vented PCV to atmosphere, I dont care about oil dripping on the ground, but how to deal with the smoke, because the smoke can be seen comming out from the bonnet. Any idea how to diffuse the smoke, does adding scotchbrite helps in smoke ?

    • @Too-Gq-For-You

smoke? I have not experienced such.
where is the smoke coming from specifically?

So you just ran a line from you're pcv valve to the bottom of the car with a filter at the end ?

Did you take off the pcv valve ? Or just run the line connected to it

since 2018 I started venting the lines with no filters at the end. I learned it was unnecessary

Put it back on and deal with your GDI separately. There’s a reason ALL cars vent back to the intake. You have so much water and fuel in your oil now without pulling a vacuum on the crank case. You’ll be lucky to make 150k miles without a rebuild. Send off an oil sample if you don’t believe me.

Im at 120k miles & my internals were gold! Do you even follow the thread on this at velosterturbo.org ??? Your'e notion has been debunked & many have been pushing well over 250hp to 320hp venting all three ports to atmosphere!

Too Gq For You horsepower has nothing to do with it. Today I’m rerouting vacuum lines on a turbo 3 series. The owner vented to atmosphere like you and over time his turbo wasn’t draining properly because crankcase pressure was a tad higher than atmospheric. To top it off, a compression test is showing to be leaking and an oil sample sent to Blackstone shows high ppm of water and fuel. Is air getting sucked in that breather or is stuff coming out?

Think whatever you want. The vacuum lines on the bimmer and your car do all the same thing. If you did any laps around a track you’d be in trouble. I see it all the time on the dyno. You guys pull your lines thinking it increases power and all it does is cause leaking oil at your turbo when the engine is run several minutes at a time without letting off the throttle. Oil stacks up in your turbo because it can’t drain and your oil sample looks like damnit. How many miles have you ‘successfully’ run like this?
