🧠 NAC works by lowering inflammation and boosting glutathione levels, which is a powerful antioxidant.
💊 NAC supplement has been shown to reduce migraine frequency and attacks in some patients, but it was temporarily removed from Amazon due to safety concerns during the pandemic.
🤯 The speaker went from having 15-20 migraines a month to sometimes having completely migraine-free months thanks to natural alternatives like supplements.
🤔 The speaker stopped taking NAC supplement when they felt they didn't need it anymore, but recently started using it again to improve their nervous system health and potentially reduce residual migraines.
🧠 NAC can balance neurotransmitters like glutamate, which can lead to excessive nerve inflammation.
💊 NAC supplement is believed to be more easily absorbed and effective in increasing glutathione levels compared to glutathione supplements due to its ability to reach the brain and cells.
🤯 NAC has shown to be effective in reducing behavioral symptoms like hair pulling, nail biting, skin picking, and other compulsions in Neuropsychiatric disorders like OCD.
💊 NAC supplement has been found effective for various conditions, but it's important to consult a doctor before taking it and to take it with food to avoid nausea.

It was removed because it competes with more expensive pharmaceutical drugs. There's a reason why marijuana was illegal for so long, and it has nothing to do with REEFER MADNESS. Big Pharm is one of the largest lobby in Washington. Second only to big oil.
If big pharma had their way, ALL supplements would be illegal. Especially when everything can have a bad effect on somebody. That includes all foods. Shall we make those food illegal too?

That NAC was temporarily removed from Amazon due to safety concerns during the pandemic was for the very same reason that "doctors" and "scientists" and the "elites" wanted to do away with Ivermectin and HCQ - BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY WORKED. Flash forward a couple years, and now, it's okay to use these supplements again because "oh, my bad, they actually do work" on covid and illnesses. You see, if there is a real cure out there, the great THEY could not have put had Public Health Emergency ("pandemic") in order to push their protocols like intubation, and drugs like Remdesivir, that made them millions, even billions, of dollars in the process.

I’m 66 years old. I play tennis 3 times a week, lifts weights, swims laps, run on the elliptical, play golf, ride bicycle. I started taking 600mg of NAC 2 weeks ago. What I noticed almost immediately was my recovery over night from a hard workout was similar to my recovery when I was younger. No more stiffness or soreness in the morning. The other thing I noticed mentally is no more ruminating thoughts. I have always been a person that rehashes things in my mind, at times too much. Since I’ve been taking NAC it is very easy for me to let things go. My experience with NAC in a short period of time had been pretty amazing and unexpected. I don’t think there is a magic pill out there, but NAC is obviously replenishing something in my body I’ve lost probably due to aging. I have had zero negative side effects.
    UPDATE:
I have been taking 500mg of NAC daily for 12 months. I am a 67 year old male, and I play tennis 3-4 times a week, I run on the elliptical, or ride bicycle on the days I don’t play tennis . Recently I have noticed a mild burning in my lungs when I do cardio or play tennis. The other evening I played 3 sets of tennis, it was 86 degrees, at the end of the second set, my lungs started burning. By the end of the 3rd set it was almost unbearable. It took several days to clear up. I stopped taking NAC during time. I started back with NAC, and I have a mild burn in my lung after going for a walk. Has anyone else had these symptoms?

    • @iaminkaland

Great to hear it works for you. You probably have a lot of recovery needs being so active and exercising a lot. Well done! Yes, I've now moved to using short periods of time as well. Aging naturally comes with more inflammation and less ability to recover so yeah, it probably supports it. I've also found Red Light therapy to be extremely useful for recovery and lowering of inflammation.

Bought some NAC during the lockdowns, was told it would help if I got the flu. Never got sick and it was about to expire so I tried out a few capsules over a few days. I was stunned at how much better I felt mentally. I am 61 years old and have been taking 1,000 mg per day for about a year now with a lot of positive results and no negative side effects. I use some glycine powder to sweeten my coffee, but I should probably take more glycine then I currently do. NAC is super cheap and I plan to take it daily moving forward. Got rid of my OCD, better moods, better cognitive function and a better outlook on life. Younger people may not benefit as much since our bodies make more NAC when we are young.

Magnesium Threonate is a form of magnesium that has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier and can be very helpful for all kinds of conditions-- I would think especially neuro inflammation?-- as so many of us are magnesium deficient.

I obviously had a condition which was treatable with NAC like fatty liver so my body doesnt detox properly and inflammation. If you feel lously for whatever reason and tried NAC, and it did nothing, it would be due to the fact that you did not have a health condition which NAC could target. If you are just generally feeling tired and like crap for example, you may have hypothyroidism which is very common. Or if you are in your late 40s or early 50s and are female, and feel tired and washed out, you may be starting menopause and need a bit of hormone support. A couple of different friends around the 50 age mark kept telling me they felt really tired. I gave them both one of my estrogen patches, and it completely picked them up in 48 hours. A blood test from the doctor has a reasonable chance of picking up any disorder you have.

Glutathione IVs helped my migraines tremendously. After two 1,000 mg IVs I began to improve. I now go once per month for a 2,000 mg IV. I also take NAC and collagen powder which contains glycine but I haven’t been very regular with it. Going to start taking it more often though. Glutathione is so important for pretty much any illness. Sick people tend to be unable to produce an amount that is sufficient to deal with the level of environmental toxicity we have today. There’s just way too many toxic chemicals in our air, soil, food and water.

    • @iaminkaland

Thanks for the reply. That's interesting. I wonder if there's NAC IV in my area. I'll look into it. Yes, modern environments and products, even household materials, can be so toxic to us. Especially to migraineurs who are predisposed to higher levels of inflammation in the body. Thanks for sharing your results :) In regards to glycine, I find the most benefit when I take 3-10 g per day.

You need two to three days before you see results, but as someone that dealt with headaches 6-7 days a week and moderate to severe on the pain scale, Turmeric reduced these to about 1 a week and the pain scale down to mild. I've been using Turmeric for a couple of years now and it's been the closest cure I have found. I use Turmeric from either a company called Biotrust, or Stop Aging Now- Turmeric with Q10

thank you. horrible that you had so many migraines every month, but really amazing that NAC has helped as much as it has. I used to get about 3 migraines per month (can't imagine having 15!). I had seen various doctors and chiropractors and body workers over the years, but nothing helped. I had given up. But an unusual set of circumstances had me seeing a chiropractor who had a PEMF machine that I though would help. During my initial visit he didn't believe it would help, but he told me that his experience is that about 40% of migraine sufferers have muscle tension in the jaw, head, and around the ear, and for them it's that tension that can initiate a migraine. I turned out to be in that 40%. He released my jaw muscles (very painful!) and after 3 visits told me to come back as needed. That was nearly 3 years ago. I have not had one migraine since then! Back to NAC, though. I am glad to hear about your experience. We have NAC on hand (yes, we got some during covid) and I take it sporadically. After hearing of your experience, I may go back to taking it more regularly.

@@iaminkaland thanks! I have used tennis balls on the floor under my back to release tight muscles in the back. However, this chiropractor pressed so hard on my jaw muscles to get them to release, I almost couldn't stand the pain! The second time I saw him, when he said, "I'm going to release your jaw muscles", I jokingly said, "Just don't break my jaw." He said, "I'm not pressing that hard", and he showed me by pressing on my wrist, and it wasn't that hard. It was just that my jaw muscles were hypersensitive from decades of never actually relaxing. So glad you found relief, and thanks again for the post. You've inspired me to add NAC back to my list of supplements. I had already been taking glycine. All the best!

This is interesting. Have both of you considered nervous system healing? I have a dysregulated nervous system due to excess stress/trauma and have started (somatic) healing practices of the nervous system. Once my body slowly started to release tension from the NS, I could feel the tensed NS in my pelvis area also tensing up in my jaw and other areas as well. There are some interesting videos on the jaw pelvis connection and somatic practices/(dance) therapies like Laban/Bartenieff, Ilan Lev Method (ILM), rewinding and Tamara Nazon has a nice one on her channel. I have noticed huge changes the past few years just by doing these excercises, getting ILM therapy, in combination with deep breathing and mindfulness/meditation. Old stuck energy/trauma that is getting released.

Next morning I had explosive diarrhea, really painful. Of course I stopped with NAC. The pain went away after one more day and night. I thought it was NAC causing it. Until I read that over the counter NAC oxidizes easily. I decided to try the medical grade NAC effervescent tablet. The dose was higher but no pain whatsoever. I took a closer look at the NAC capsules and can see the oxidation in small brown spot’s inside the capsule. I of course am scared to death to use it again.

Please talk more about what NAC requires to be taken at the same time to optimise benefits, my understanding is that Vit C, Vit E and small amounts of Vit B6 need to be taken at the same time as NAC for it to function optimally. Also after a while it depletes metals such as copper and zinc, so the frequency of dose / amount of dose taken long term need to be considered carefully (as opposed to a short term need to treat a current illness with a higher dose). I started taking it every evening (600mg) after dinner to counter decades of minor alcohol abuse on my liver, as my health improved I have cut back to 3 nights a week and recently to 2 nights a week as a maintenance dose. If you need to take NAC daily (and it is not in response to a serious medical condition) it is probably a sign that you are taking some vitamins or metals in excess and that the main value of the NAC is it's ability to detoxify through chelation excessive metal or B6 / B9 / B12 levels (potentially other vitamins might be affected).

The reason NAC can help SOME people with OCD symptoms, is because repetitive behavior is a symptom of a Glutamate neurotransmitter issue. Which by the way, can be damaged by a concussion or TBI as well…. So in the case of post concussive syndrome causing OCD or Trichotillomania, NAC may not be enough to regulate the neurotransmitter issue. There is also some new research using a Alzheimer’s drug called Memantine for this as well- for the same reason, glutamate receptor.

Maybe you have already looked into it but you could have a snp in your MTHFR gene.
It needs a lot of riboflavin (B2) to function properly.
And methylated B12 and/or methylfolate as these are the endstages of what the gene has trouble producing.
And riboflavin happens to be one of the vitamins that is supposed to help with migraines.
Also you need glycine to balance methylgroups and balance salts. Glycine and NAC together create glutathione. It is better to take the precursors so that the body will use it where it is needed.
Liposomal glutathione will go into every cell, also the ones that do not need it and it could wreck some processes. But it could help in case of high need.
You also need selenomethionine for production of glutathione. This was key when I was doing a detox and took away my headache that would otherwise start coming up after taking some antibacterial herbs and more.
Also you could try R-alpha-lipoic-acid as it detoxes heavy metals as well and helps glutathione to stay in the body longer.

There are a few extra components to help regenerate glutathione or recycle within the body. One of those is L-glutamine. Glutamine is a very helpful gut healing supplement on its own and found in bone broth along with collagen. I personally use it a lot for autoimmune that effects the digestion or leaky gut. The list below, I use depending on the diagnosis from a doctor. For example: "Selenium" for specific thyroid issues however, people can become "selenium toxic." So I don't arbitrarily recommend all of the list below without further knowledge on overdose and side effects.
Other "regenerators" of glutathione besides NAC & glycine are:
      1) Selenium
      2) alpha lipoic acid
      3) cordyceps extracts
      4) gotu kola extract
      5) milk thistle
      6) L-glutamine
Use fish oil, Omega-3s (EPA DHA) for better absorption. Most people I deal with are already doing this so I don't have to worry about this.
I hope this all helps. Look to study on "glutathione regenerators" sometimes referred to as precursions or recyclers.

@@Red1Moon 200 mg of NAC is very low dose. I'd say anything over 3500 mg is heading towards high dose. However, high dose for a month can easily be 5-6000 mg a day. So yeah, 200 mg is hardly anything.
Glycine at a minimum is 3000 mg a day and I'd say save most of it for end of the day. So definitely dinner and around bed time. Glycine has a tendency to help with sleep, however dreems can be pretty wild. I had a stroke patients who couldn't remember the last time he dreamed, took glycine as if described and has what he calls amazing dreems. Dreems where he's no longer suffering from his stroke side effects. Again, 5-6000 mg shouldn't be anything to worry about.

@@iaminkaland Just a side note. I started taking NAC about 10 days ago. On May 31 I took my blood pressure reading, it was 154/97 which was close to what it has been on several Dr, visits. Tonight June 10, I took my blood pressure and it was 115/76. I was shocked. I have not had a reading like that in ages. Coincidence? I don't really think so. I am dieting, cutting way down on carbs, and a few other supplements, but I believe it might have been the NAC that brought the numbers down.

First time here. So glad you put some references, that saves us a lot of time, thanks! I notice your "About" says "neuropsychology". If you can, do cover more on the GABA vs Glutamate angle of psychosis. Also how cortisol and adrenaline seem to go together, based on the stress response we see. I am researching for family member. The existing pharmaceutical approach is almost totally focussed on Dopamine, but I think that is a 1-legged chair. There seems to be so many other factors or triggers. I noticed you listed a lot of "other" supplements in your search for a migraine solution.

Sorry to hear about your terrible migraines and the frequency of them. Sounds awful! In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) they say that all headaches are ‘Liver Headaches’ meaning they are somehow related to your liver function. How’s your diet? GlyNac - Take 600mg NAC and 3/4 teaspoon of Glycine first thing in the morning with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, this will help increase absorption even further. Then 600mg again in the evening at least 2 hours after food. Even if the bottle says "with food", take it on an empty stomach, any isolated amino acid should be taken without food, otherwise absorption is negatively affected by other competing amino acids.

If you get NAC, which is fantastic and you have good amounts of anti oxidants already in the system due too good life habits, low carb, etc, it may act like a blood thinner. If you see you loose blood in your gums even if you brushing your teeth gently, then you need to stop NAC or other antioxidants for a while. This means you have enough antioxidants already in the system.

In reading up on NAC a while back, I found that it was recommended to take a break from using it for a week or so every 8 weeks. Also, timing is important in relation to alcohol use. Taken at a certain amount of time before consuming alcohol has a beneficial and liver protective effect, but taken too close to having consumed alcohol could have negative impacts on liver health. Apparently, at one time NAC was referred to as a "hangover" preventive. Sorry, no references. You'll have to research it for yourselves.

    • @iaminkaland
      @iaminkaland  Рік тому +16

      As far as I've understood..
When it comes to taking NAC, there are a few different approaches.
Some people take NAC before drinking alcohol to boost the liver glutathione. Glutathione helps to break down the toxin that alcohol produces (acetaldehyde) and therefore it should already be made before alcohol enters the body.
On the other hand, some people take NAC the next day to counteract the oxidative stress and inflammation caused by alcohol toxicity (i.e., hangover).

Thank you for sharing this. I have been thinking of NAC for a while and when I visited my GP, I asked him if I could take it for overall health. He said no. When I asked why, he said, "because you are still young, you don't need it". I think it's a weird answer but I just left it as that for now. I am coming close to 50 and I don't think this answer makes sense. I think NAC is not very studied or known here where I live so the general medical practitioners don't really think of recommending it other than when there is an overdose of paracetamol or for thinning mucous in lungs. And that is it. They don't say oh good, take it to make more gluthathione, reduce oxidative stress and ocd-like anxiety. Nope. Other than that, I am scratching my head as to why he won't recommend me to take it, maybe it's because besides being slightly anemic due to thalessemia minor, I am healthy all round, based on bloodwork. Maybe he doesn't want me to unnecessarily add a supplement just for the sake of it. Are there any side effects that you have encountered in these two years of taking NAC? Thank you so much.

    • @iaminkaland

Thanks for the experience. GPs a re usually not that familiar with natural supplements and/or they're not allowed legally recommend them due to some official guidelines. I have asked even my neurologist about different supplements, like omega-3 fish oil, and they can't say anything. If I were you, I'd consult a functional medicine doctor. They're doctors or healthcare providers with an education in alternative and complementary medicine who can tell more about natural supplements to support health. If you need recommendations, I know two people who have online consultations. I am 30 and I take NAC :D so far, I haven't seen any massive negative side-effects. I stopped eating it continuously and switched taking breaks in every few months (e.g. using for 3 months, and then when necessary). Also, tried intravenous NAC recently in a clinic. I will see how I will adjust my NAC schedule if I start using IV more.

@@iaminkaland Thank you for your kind and very informative reply! I am grateful. I had no idea that GPs may not be allowed legally to recommend health/natural supplements. I didn't also know there is such thing as functional medicine doctor. I don't think there is any here, we are a developing country, so mastery in such area is almost non existent at this point. NAC is also not available at our local pharmacies, only in clinics where my doctor prescribes it mainly for thinning phlegm. Months ago when I walked into a pharmacy, I asked if they have NAC and the lady in charge of supplements is like what? And she was adamant no such thing exists, even went to google it and couldn't find any info on it despite me spelling out the entire word for her and telling her the abbreviation NAC. Gosh. If I wanted to get NAC, I would have to get it from other countries and hope that the authorities don't confiscate it at customs entry. In any case, I would have to be prepared for such if I were to buy NAC eventually. Am still at the research and learning stage of this. I would not mind getting the recommendations of the online doctors from you. I may not approach them yet but if i ever want to, it will be great to know who they are, if they have any socials and any published info on this topic. Would appreciate it!
Lastly, you mentioned that you get nauseous when you take it on empty stomach and you need to take it 30 mins before food. I heard similar from other content creators who take NAC. If you take it immediately after food, would that be alright too? Many many thanks!

@@lebooshdiaries OK I understand why the situation is bothersome with the GP and finding information. Here in estonia you can buy NAC from health food stores and even in some grocery stores.
I think it would be fine to take it immediately after food as well, but some people say the absorption can interfere with protein. So I am not completely sure. I might take it with food as well.

N acetylcysteine is good but taking it with glycine is better (glynac)
Buy glycine and take in equal measure with nac. Studies show this combo increases glutathione much more effectively and also has benefits for longevity.
Nac is not without side effects. People saying they use it to reduce soreness after exercise should be aware that it hinders the beneficial adaptations that occur as a response to exercise.

Helps to clear the lungs too.

Decongestion, if my memory serves. And hence some thought it was good for covid, which caused blood clots and congestion of lungs. So why did the FDA suddenly ban it? Officially they said it was not to used "like a drug". But NAC has been on the market for almost 50 years. I don't buy that argument. It seems to me all options and alternatives were being taken away, pushing people towards the vaccines.
