For those who care about their health and what goes on behind the scenes, 'Health and Beauty Mastery' is a must-read. Dr. Julian Bannett exposes shocking facts about the industry that everyone should know. I can’t look at health advice the same way again!

    Dr Berg notes:
Magnesium is vital for the following:
    •Energy production
    •Vitamin D function
    •Vitamin K2 function
    •Preventing kidney stones
    •Heart health
    •Blood pressure
    •Preventing muscle cramps
    •Preventing migraines
    •Sleep
Magnesium supplements contain different forms of magnesium. Let’s take a look at them, starting with the worst.
    1. The worst magnesium - Magnesium oxide is the worst yet most common magnesium supplement. It only has a 4% absorption rate. It’s also very expensive!
    2. Magnesium sulfate has a 10% absorption rate and a high laxative effect. It may help relax your muscles superficially.
    3. Magnesium orotate has a 15% absorption rate. This form of magnesium can penetrate the cell and increase energy. Magnesium orotate also works as an antioxidant and supports the DNA.
    4. Magnesium taurate has a 20% absorption rate and supports heart health, blood pressure, and the nervous system.
    5. Magnesium lactate has a 25% absorption rate and is more gentle on the GI system. It supports the cardiovascular system and can improve energy. Magnesium lactate is often used topically, which may be beneficial for your muscles.
    6. Magnesium citrate has a 30% absorption rate. It can help prevent kidney stones and is good for cardiovascular issues and blood pressure. It can also help with detoxification.
    7. Magnesium malate has a 40% absorption rate. It’s beneficial for chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.
    8. Magnesium threonate has a 75% absorption rate. It supports cognitive function and is a good form of magnesium for sleep.
    9. The best magnesium - Magnesium glycinate is the most absorbable type of magnesium. There are a lot of magnesium glycinate benefits. It’s gentle on the GI system, helps prevent muscle spasms, supports sleep and relaxation, and reduces stress. Magnesium glycinate may help relieve migraines and won’t interfere with other minerals.
Consider taking 400 mg of magnesium glycinate each night as a maintenance dose. Double this for a therapeutic dose and take throughout the day
    Thank you Dr Berg!

Vitamin D and Magnesium. I suffered from chronic back pain especially lower back for decades. My lower back pain was prominent in the morning after I sat up in bed and then first stood up. After taking 10 to 12,000 IUs of D3 and 800 to 1000 mg of magnesium (citrate and glycinate) a day for 6 months I no longer have back pain especially first thing in the morning. Over a number of decades I have spent tens of thousands on various medical treatments with minimal effect.

Same, I spent a fortune trying to cure my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome before I finally learned from Dr. Berg just recently that I've been desperately deficient in VITAMINS and minerals all my adult life. No CFS doctor ever told me to take vitamin D!! That's half the battle won right there. And I was told that I was severely allergic to yeast, therefore not to take multivitamins or b vitamins or fortified cereals. Well, once I started megadosing on b vitamins my brain fog disappeared and I now have heaps more clear clean energy. Nutritional science is King 👑

Part of the reason has to do with insurance. Doctor has a time limit I believe of 15 minutes to spend with a patient. I believe certain protocols have to be observed by the medical industry. 😢

    • @Impossible-z2j
      @Impossible-z2j 2 місяці тому

@@di4085 I agree insurance and Medicare has changed the landscape of medicine as well as the overall health of America. I worked at a hospital for nearly 43 years. Each year Congress would determine some kind of reimbursement rate and we would be notified by Medicare. Last couple of years, we were notified of 10% decrease in reimbursement. Then administration would ask each department to cut 10% across the board in employee hours, supplies, etc but increase patient census by 10%. So we frantically learned to adapt to do more with less. So you are right, doctors shouldn’t shoulder all the blame. Administration looks at inputs/outputs and determine “X”amount of patients scheduled each hour (in their eyes hopefully a well rounded mix of commercially insured patients, Medicare, self-insured, and non insured patients). This schedule hopefully pays all the bills including everyone’s salary from door greeters to 6 figure administrators. Then to add to the stress factor if a doctor decides he needs to spend more time with a particular patient and makes others wait, and oh no😱 someone writes a negative review, doctor receives an inquiring email from administration. Some doctors do choose to have more control of this knee-jerk-chain…and try to maintain their income status by forgoing the hierarchy and do a “concierge” service. I’ve seen some opt of Medicare, and actually seen some go back to house calls(even go to work place. But these individuals are far and few between. And the rat race continues….
      Sorry for the novel.

I make magnesium bicarbonate by adding 1 tsp of magnesium hydroxide to 800 ml of carbonated water. I add that to the water I drink throughout the day.

It does seem sensible to have the reaction forming magnesium compounds externally, otherwise the reaction with your stomach acid is partly neutralizing the digestive juices, and the gas from that reaction will bloat you. I guess you could just dissolve a magnesium oxide tablet in a mixture of carbonated water with a dash of lemon juice and ACV to provide a mixture of compounds more easily absorbed and tolerated.

I guess that is what you will get once the (cheap) magnesium oxide has had the antacid effect on stomach acid and reacted to become the chloride salt, so it may be the antacid effect that can cause digestive problems. Bioavailability appears to be the immediate absorption rather than how much total absorbed throughout the digestive tract - which seems to be adequate even for oxide.

So Magnesium Oxide isn't the "worst" form of Magnesium, that's simply not the case.. It's the most poorly absorbed in the intestines, but guess what? Depending on your condition, that is 100% ideal. Why? Because that unabsorbed Magnesium ends up in the colon/lower digestive tract and softens your stool. It's the gold standard OTC treatment for constipation in Japan. For me, it was an absolute game changer. I had mild IBS w/ chronic constipation for decades. Cured with Magnesium Oxide (well, cured as long as I continue to supplement). No more meds/laxatives/expensive pharm drugs that have all sorts of side effects. Tried other forms of Magnesium, like Citrate and Glycinate. They don't work anywhere near as well (or don't even work for this condition at all, because they're too well absorbed in the upper GI tract and never make it into the colon). Side effects from Magnesium Oxide? Zilch. The the best forms of Magnesium depends on your condition.

what a dumb comment lol. Theres nuances to everything, theres a reason why statistics are based of the average. If oxide is the worst for 99.9% of people its the worst lmfao. Youre not some special saint because it helps you. When buying supplements people want to know the efficacy and bioavailability for 99.9% of people. Im sure some people shouldnt take magnesium at all

    • @DrWarbird

I took Mg glycinate for a year. A year later, I had a full body exam. I actually got diagnosed osteoporosis. I was normal before and I'm a male. I also got more frequent leg cramp. I stopped the Mg glycinate right away knowing that MG controls Ca. The leg cramp is much less now. I'm waiting for my next full body exam next year. Taking Mg is not as simple and great as most people said. Watch out!!

Worst bioavailability, but still the most cost effective if you are just topping up, and don't have any digestive malabsorption issues. Even if you are deficient, your body will tent to grab some of the magnesium available whenever it can find it. You are even supposed to be able to absorb some through the skin when bathing with epsom salts or dead sea salt. Apparently bioavailability is tested on rapid absorption rather than total absorption, so some more gets absorbed after reacting with stomach acid, etc. A combination of different magnesium compounds is probably best to provide both high bioavailbility/absorption, and minimal digestive issues if higher doses are required. Just by making some mg available to your body, you are likely to be better off than most people.
