Toyota RAV4 Turbo with 3S-GTE Engine // 450Hp/1050Kg Slalom Monster

- Adam Ludescher is the owner and driver of this unique Slalom #HillclimbMonster. Taking the Toyota RAV4 as basis, a 3S-GTE from a Toyota MR2 was then swapped into it.
Here it is producing 450Hp to move 1050Kg, on this racer that is still 4wd, using an almost original drivetrain with the only big chages being the use of an aftermarket rear diff and straight cut gears.
The car is used on the European Championship of Slalom/Hillclimbing.
This is the equivalent to a GR Yaris by now. A small hatchback in form but actually a swing back, lightweight, turbo, awd, back slides on the entry, instant acceleration on exits, low end power and a damn Toyota.
You can't even call it an SUV if you lower it and build it for the track since it's a monocoque chassis + the suspension mix of Camry, Corona, Corolla and Celica. So it is qualified as a 90's GR Yaris in that build.

@@supra1722 Only, if the Corolla AE101 or the AE111 hatch was produced as an AWD from the factory, then it can be considered as the 90's GR Yaris. Unlike the small Rav4 were it's main production was AWD and the 2WD was the secondary option.
The wrc predecessor of gr yaris is the celica gt4 , awd, small engine with turbo ,lightweight and 2 door . But celica is more of a coupe
@@cheemsdoge977 That's my point. If I were top compare it FIGURATIVELY, the GR yaris to a 90's counterpart, it would be a lowered, gte-swapped 3dr Rav4. Why? Because of its shape, size, AWD and turbo -- only when swapped.
The GT4 Celica is obviously the reason the GR Yaris came to life, but based on it's figure, I say ahhh, it's the Celica's autistic cousin, the Rav4 with a GTE as a GR Yaris' predecessor, FIGURATIVELY. Cuz it has no buttocks.
Pls, anyone don't bring up the Starlet, that's only RWD and FWD. It can be comparable to a GR Yaris, FIGURATIVELY, only when it's in AWD form, since 4EFTE is a small displacement-turbo as well -- only in a FWD & RWD form.

-the GR Yaris built off of a compact FWD hatchback.
the RAV4 is distant compared to this relation. compact SUV based related to Celica/Camry vs FWD->AWD converted hatches, Corolla compact and Yaris.

Bro, it's still relevant! you remove the regular 3s-ge and put 3s-gte and do a boost up by 1-1.1 bar. total 300hp 1200kg, 4,5-5,5 seconds to 100km/h. A civilian car for every day, which gives a lot of emotions and surprises people on the road :)

450hp @ 1050kg is not exactly street legal...
The idea to put a MR2 turbo engine in a Rav 10 is just brilliant. And the castrol livery makes it perfect. I would like to have one of those.

The owner did reach out the HillClimb Monsters and Ludescher Ádám really did use the MR2 3S-GTE as the engine.
I am a fan of unconventional engine and drive train swaps and this RAV4 and your RAV4 Project does tick all the boxes.
The only RAV4 we get in Asia are the boring 2L FWD "Crossovers" which are now replaced by the C-HR.

@@adamludescher8992I have some questions for you, I’m building my 96 rav to be very similar to yours, I was going to put forged bottom end in my 3s-fe then fabricate turbo setup and get it tuned, probably keep the head and cam stock besides some valve work. Is it better to do the gte swap? did you have to upgrade the bottom end on the gte engine or is it stock ? How is the engine holding up to the racing, does your engine get redone every season? How much boost does it take to push that gte to 450 hp?
@@elioliver9554 Hi. We had 2bar boost and that was around 450-500hp. The block of the 3SGTE and 3sfe is the same, we also used a fe block with gte cylinder head. You only need to drill the turbo oil return hole in the block. The place and the channels are already placed. I dont have experiences with the fe head, but i think it might works with some work. In that case you will have a turbo 3sfe😁

Damn! I currently have a 3-door RAV4 with the stock 3S-FE engine and IHE mods. While it's pretty sprightly around the city, I feel that it lacks real punch considering it's an economy engine.
Would like to swap in a GTE motor, but I'm still thinking whether it will be worth it or it's better getting another car. Nonetheless, this is a unique project since only a handful of RAVs sport the GTE swap, and pretty monstrous combination too. :D
Update: I already have the 3S-GTE in my RAV4. :) Quick as a bunny rabbit and absolutely worth it!

I don't understand why you would use a suv in a slalom/hillclimb. Take it off road
rofufoja lol rav4's arent meant as a off road suv.. These 2 door rav4s have a super short wheel base and are extremely light. Thus making it an excellent choice for a course such as this with a ton of quick tight turns.
no reason not to have fun everywhere. why limit your fun to only offroading?
I tracked this 3door AWD in stock form. It has potential since the back can swing out as you enter a turn and can act like an Evo/Sti on the exit. Just needs stiffening and a lower height, and you'll get yourself a small hatchback Celica GT4 which is lighter, equivalent and in proportion to a GR Yaris now.
Plus, it's not really an SUV if you build it in that race form, since it's a monocoque and has the suspension of a sedan. It's qualified to be called as a small hatchback, like a 90's GR Yaris. So who doesn't want to use this sleeper car in any race right?
