Hey budget build is like to talk to you about your build! I plan on buying my brothers JDM 3SGTE motor and swapping it in to a rav4 after winter! Or during depending on how the car search goes. I’d just like some input and some help on my build. I’ll try to contact you bro!
Great build. I know a guy who runs a 92-00 Honda Civic / 93-97 Del Sol radiator with the 3S-GTE. Thicker, though about half-size, but running cool. I've got a hairline crack in my stock plastic one, now I'm thinking I might try this Celica radiator and cap off the fitting on the expansion tank. Still rocking the 3S-FE till it kicks the bucket.
@@CalumMilligan oh nice, I know a bunch of people go to the half size civic stuff to clear bigger turbos on various cars. After talking to Steph papadakis about his, I wouldn’t recommend using the celica radiator, he’s using a new denso rad in his and has had less heat build up than mine. Be sure to check out his build too if you haven’t on papadakis racing channel
3sgte swapped a 97 last year and took it to Baja to race the Baja XL with some Toyota guys. From SLC to basically Cabo and back in 2 weeks! Your vids helped a lot along the way. Thanks for what you do here.
I bought a 3sge from an importer in Maryland who did the same thing to me. When I got it I called them and told them they gave me the wrong engine. They argued with me for a few minutes then gave me the option of having one shipped from a customer in California but the catch was I would have to pay them over the phone, nope. So I was stuck with the engine they sent. They ended up having to send me a new trans, oil pan, and maf. Would've been so much cheaper for them if they just sent the one I actually bought.
Damn, this setup is amazing. I got my 97 RAV4 4dr automatic a few years ago and I've been wanting to do the swap, though it might be too far out of my wheelhouse to complete, soooo cool though, living the dream through you guys, haha Excellent video!
Hey, I have a tip for anyone looking to do the swap, you don't have to drop the tank to add the return line a have a 98 rav4 4 door gen 4 3sgte swap, you can add a fitting onto the top of the bulk head for the gas tank. Also i still have the charcoal canister for whatever reason, I honestly need to get rid of it, any extra room in the engine bay would not be bad. Also thanks for the idea of the rav4.2 hood scoop idea I was thinking about getting one off a subaru.
I had a jdm rav4 I wanted to do this on so bad, but it just didn't work out and I sold it to a postal worker. Fun fact, the 1995 JDM 3S-FE has a fuel return line! Would've made it that much easier to do the swap
I don't want to SEE one. I want to see how it's done. There's a million finished swaps and half a dozen papers written on it. But I just want a video on the process.
Hey chill dude, the stock gen5 runs 14psi stock, they have fuel maps up to 22psi but generally people don't go beyond 18psi to keep the rods in the block. they are not the same bottom end as earlier 3sgte due to the noodle rods, which helps it spool a tiny bit faster. E154 gearboxes are strong, real strong. It can handle the stock limits of the gen5. enjoy
Excelent colaboration here. Thanks a Lot. I watched out that the common problem about the rear differentials hooks sopports, Dillion just fixed up by using Window silicon gasket. Does It really works, or is just a temporary solution? I was expecting your video explaining how we could fix this annoying hit on our RAV4s. :(
Yes. If you have the 4 cylinder RAV4, sell it and buy the 3rd gen that has the V6. That's way better than the 3S-GTE. In fact, I'm considering swapping the 2GR-FE engine out of the 3rd gen RAV4 into mine. It's a 3.5 liter v6 with 269 horsepower.
Literally just got a RAV4 like 2 months ago. Mine is a 2WD automatic, and I want to find the easiest way to swap in a 3SGTE without having to install a clutch pedal etc. But forums have been completely useless for this issue. If anyone in the comments knows, I'd appreciate it.
The 3S-GTE engine will bolt up to your automatic transmission. You'll still have to do wiring, make exhaust, and do all the things you'll see in this video.
@@lasersharksushi1975 The 3S-GTE shares a similar engine block to the 3S-FE so it bolts up. Your transmission might not be able to handle the full power of the 3S-GTE engine, so do your research on that. But it will bolt up.
People have used the factory auto and gotten away with it, it helps starting with a healthy transmission. Also keep in mind it may shorten the lifespan of said transmission and/or torque converter!
@@BudgetBuildBureau I have a Toyota certified reman A247E that I bought because my current transmission is kind of bad. Got it for dirt cheap, so it should be strong.
Hey Paul I got a question since you know these cars. My friend has a 97 rav4 with an auto trans. It stalls and dies when sitting still or taking off from a stop sign/light once the rpm’s are past 2000 it runs just fine. I’ve checked the timing belt spark plugs fuel pump throttle body map sensor plug wires distributor. And I can’t figure it out. While sitting still the car starts to surge idle then will die. I’m assuming vaccume leak somewhere but all lines in the main engine bay are fine. Any ideas?
It sounds like a vacuum leak. The RAV4 has many vacuum hoses. Some are hidden behind the engine, like the center locking differential, and power steering idle up hoses. Check again for vacuum leaks. If the problem happens on idle, you may need to clean the idle air control valve. Check out my cylinder head video for more details about vacuum hoses: ua-cam.com/video/Ksv98JvBqXs/v-deo.htmlsi=HjlDdec3iOMMo48o&t=1384 Check out L3 in Colorado's video about the idle air control valve: ua-cam.com/video/O3yb5RIlqPM/v-deo.htmlsi=yOIhSkESugM7xj48
I’m doing the swap right now and I was wondering what axles did you use and did you have to modify the driveshaft any. Thank you if you could can you send me a link where I can get them.
The 2JZ engine is awesome, but swapping it into a RAV4 would be extremely difficult. The 3S-GTE bolts up to the stock mounts and transmission in the transverse configuration. Since the 2JZ is an inline 6, it's much longer, and there's no way it could me mounted transversely. Perhaps a rear wheel drive setup could be done, but I think you would be much better off throwing a little money at the 3S-GTE. Stock internals can easily do over 300hp, and if you're rich, a 3S-GTE can do 900hp.
A stock 3S-GTE engine puts out about 260hp. You can easily get 300hp by turning up the boost a little. If you want more than that, you have to build it up with stronger parts.
You're absolutely right. The easiest way to engine swap the first gen RAV4 is sell it and buy the third gen with the 3.5 liter V6. You'll have 269hp, which is slightly more than the 3S-GTE.
the stock Transmission will die soon, i recently did this swapp on a 1997 that had been swapped 3sgte second gen to a stock 5 speed and the trans was heavily vented ,from the clutch comming apart and destroyed the trans .. i swapped 4th gen and it is a direct swap .. you all lie so bad .. this wont work .. lies lies lies ... everything swapped from the caldina including the trans ..
sounds more like a clutch issue rather than a transmission issue. It's well documented that the E250F stock transmission will handle 250hp provided you're not doing 7k RPM clutch dumps and gorilla shifting it, ie ABUSE.
