Me being a Toyota tech for the past 10 years I’m pretty sure they never put a v6 in the new body style rav4. Unless it was like a 12 because I think they changed the rav in 13

This is the type of story I expect to hear on the balcony smoking area of a bar in an unfamiliar city after a few drinks and the words “gimme your wildest car story” and someone puts their whiskey on the table and just grins and starts talking. And I am living for this kind of thing. That is hilarious and awesome.

Rally is such an awesome welcoming sport. I don't think there are many other things I would drive 9 hours to go volunteer for and be super excited the whole time.
The last V6 in a Rav 4 was eliminated in the previous generation. Not the current version which is a inline four.

The generation that ended in 2012 had models that came with both a 3.5 Liter V6 and All Wheel Drive. I would still recommend you purchase one of those over one from 2013 onwards.

Going to a rally event is the most fun free thing I have ever done. Been to STPR the past two years, he is right you can literally just go and hang out and talk with the drivers. Met Pastrana twice.
I love the NE forest rally. I have a house right next to Sunday River. It is where I learned to ski, my kids learned to ski, where I got engaged, and where my son fell in love with auto racing! (Thanks Ken Block)

Things like this also happend in the 24h Nürburgring race with the Private teams. Sometimes there is calling does someone have a XYZ Car they could bring to the pitlane we need parts to finish the race. The private teams who take part in the 24h Race dont have massiv money for spare parts and if there are fans who want to give parts out and help them out they bring there cars to the pitlane (somwhere in the back, not directly to the pitlane) and the mechnicals change and fix there cars. Thats real racing!

I was at that race volunteering, so much fun, if you're in the north east and you like cars it is a must see
I was super impressed by how cool rally drivers are. I went to the ARX event at COTA a few months ago and was able to literally walk from the stands and talk to Ken Block, Travis Pastrana, etc. Incredibly humble and willing to sign stuff and take pictures. I was a little taken back as there was basically no security whatsoever but super impressed in the overall experience.

Seriously. If you don't know Roadkill, you don't know what you're missing. I used to call it "the best car show that's not on TV" but they're on TV now, so I can't really say that anymore lol. Pretty sure you can catch Roadkill on the Velocity Channel.

You’d be surprised how accessible off road racing is to fans. At short course races, you can walk around the pits and meet drivers without any special pass. I regularly see fans leaving the races with pieces of fiberglass from the trucks that the teams gave away.

alot of audio buzz in this episode. drove me crazy while watchign the video, because at the same time i was attempting to find the source of the buzz.. thought maybe one of the speakers was buzzing or something near by.. but nope, eventually determined it was the audio source.
The 2GR-FE (Toyota's current v6) wasn't available for the XA40 Rav4 (2012-2018) you would of been running a 2AR-FE/FXE (depending on hybrid or not) as I am guessing you were driving a US based Rav4. Either way pretty cool story.
What kind of whells are those in the Rav4? I have an Adventure and that would look cool!!

BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON Most ECUs are in the engine bay where they can get good airflow. The one for my truck is just bolted to a support strut on the drivers side. Easily unpluggable.
Only time i have been able to be helpful to other racers beyond hooking someone up with a bit of gas in the pits or helping out a downed rider in a bad spot would be a couple years ago i ordered 2 new clutch levers for my bike before a 100mile desert race. was sent ones for the wrong bike, return shipping was as much as they were worth as they were on clearance so i kept em. Managed to find a guy parked near me the race with the right bike and gave him the pair
Rode my race and got back to the pits a few hours later. The guy tracked me down and told me he had managed to drop his bike getting it off the trailer and break what would have been his only clutch lever before his race even started. So i managed to save the guys day of riding because someone screwed up and sent me the wrong parts weeks before. 50/50 good luck and bad luck. Gotta rack up the good Motorsports karma when you get a chance. Sucks when you have none coming back to you when youre the guy who broke something.

Anyone that has driven a rav 4 knows how much they suck. I broke the suspension on a brand new rav4 that was a rental in 2016 thing was so crap (I wasn’t doing anything a car couldn’t do) , I’d rather drive pretty much anything else.

I guess it's similar to how the mx5 or rx8 is considered a sports car.
While not a fan myself, I would definitely consider the MX5 to be a sports car. I believe there are more Miatas raced each weekend than any other single car model. (or at least that was the case a few years ago) I could sort of see the RX8 being considered a sports car, simply because the RX7 most definitely was a sports car, and the new car was supposed to be the evolution of that. However I drove one back in the day, and was not impressed with the sportiness. Cool concept, bad execution.
Neither NASCAR nor American Football are what I would call a "Global Sport" compared to Basketball, Football "Soccer", F1 or Rally.
