    Federal Auto Match has been working great out of my Ruger Precision .22 LR Bolt-Action. 1/4 in groups at 50 yards.

    I like the fact that you proclaimed that the "results are only specific to my gun" - so true. Each 22 has its own personality. I have high dollar 22's that shoot the lights out with Federal Auto Match @ 50. Conversely, my Magnum Research 22 outfitted with a Voltquartsen barrel shoots the same stuff at around 3MOA @ 50. It's maddening.

      Everything definitely varies gun to gun, and in my experience it can even vary depending on the torque you set the stock bolt to. I just try to keep everything consistent so I know it's repeatable.

    I had to find a replacement for my beloved go to 22 rounds remington thunderbolts and golden bullets got frivolously sued out of existence. Granted i know these are reguarded as bottom of the barrel for the most part but have served me well for decades and i had a ton of them collected over the years stolen from me along with most of my guns at the beginning of the pandemic leaving me with only my winchester model 250 22 and my granddaddy’s 410. I only had about 100 22 shells left, and that was unacceptable to me under normal circumstances let alone those crazy times. Couldnt replace much of any of it as stuff was flying off the shelves faster than stores could get it in. Anyhow being the remingtons were unavailable i scored a couple bricks of the aguila super extra 40 gr. They did exceptionally well in both accuracy and reliability in my test of reignighted passion for rolling cans in the back yard with my first rifle… and now only rifle. Over the years I aquired more bricks some of the 38 gr as you shot. I managed to chew up 8 bricks of those shells without a single dud or even under powered cartridge. I bought more. Even some of the standard velocity which seem to be stupid accurate for cheap 22 ammo. Now take this as you will. The 9th and 10th bricks of aguila super extra high velocity 40 grains had problems. I noticed something was up soon as i grabbed the first few shells out of the box. They were so over waxed they stuck to my fingers. Over that 1000 rounds it gummed up the firing pin channel in my proven reliable tx 22 that it was getting light strikes even with basic cleaning after every shooting. I had to completely disassemble the slide scrub and ultrasonic clean in degreaser to get that wax out of my tx22, my 10-22, my wifes savage mark2, and my lcp. Also the bottom half of both of those bricks had a roughly 90% failure rate. I figure it was just a bad batch of otherwise wonderful ammo. Havent had a problem since but i do have a mess more that i have yet to open. I do now understand how some people came to leave bad reviews, but all in all it is still my go to. I just know if the bullets are sticky i have some scrubbing in my future and about half the ammo I purchased. Thanks for the info, this kinda confirms my thoughts on their consistency long as i dont get a bad batch.

    Thing about .22 rimfire is what shoots and groups well out of one rifle may shoot terrible out of another and the ammo that grouped terrible or was really inconsistent out of the original rifle may well be what shoots light out in a different rifle.
    Watching test results and thinking that will tell you what will be the best to shoot or buy for your rifle does not work for rimfire ammo in general.

    Good luck, I never had any luck with any of those brands in my 1022. Seems like mine really likes the Ealey match and Ealey Tennex.

    I have had great luck with the Federal Auto Match through a Volquartsen barrel, but the high number of misfires (stovepipes) have made it unusable. Really a shame. Nice review!

    Thank you for doing a test like this except I note a general trend the results got worse as the testing progressed. I think to verify results and eliminate the possibility of a fouled barrel, loose action screw, meandering scope, or other variables you might consider running another group or two of the best performing ammo at the end.

    Great shoot out. Thank you. I have a $100. dollar rifle and a $50. dollar scope. Testing best ammo for squirrel hunting. Sighted in at 50 yards. This gives me a heads up on best ammo to try in my rifle. Yes I save and subbed.

    • @rosewood_outdoors
      @rosewood_outdoors  Рік тому +1

      Awesome, thanks for the sub. I would definitely try out different brands to see what your gun likes, and make a decision based on your situation. I'm sure there's more accurate .22 out there, but I really don't want to break the bank just to go drop some squirrels.

    good test personally I will stick with cci Ar , standard, or mini mags and then the aqulia pretty much everything else comes with a host of misfires or failures to eject I do stock blazer norma and 1 box of armscore. they are for my lever gun or bolt action not mu semi auto guns

    Funny how some of the cheaper stuff shot the best. Every rifle is different for sure, but most of mine like Ameican eagle and Federal Automatch. Great because that stuff is cheap and can be found all day long at Walmart.

    Accent of Aguila is on the first "A" as in ammo. Means eagle.

    Sounds like a lot of extra money to spend modifying a 10-22 when I've gotten more accurate 50 yd. results with my bone stock 10-22s, Marlin mod. 60s, 39A and marlin single shot riffles using some of this same ammo. Enjoyed your video, thank you.

    I'm very lucky my 22 shoots anything and it all groups good I shoot the all american ruger 22 lr.the only ammo that was not good at all is that federal champion bulk .I couldn't get that to group at 25 yrds my favorite is the Aguila I don't usually ever have a flyer either and when I do it's super close to the group.i got lucky with a great 22 that's part of it shooting good nice review

    • @rosewood_outdoors
      @rosewood_outdoors  9 місяців тому

      Thanks, every gun is different so I'm sure they group different, testing on your own is a great way to go about it. I know my groups could have been better but the scope cam setup i had at the time made it slightly difficult. Aguila SEHP is definitely my favorite all around round, but I have moved to CCI Standard velocity for shooting out of a suppressor, it's just barely subsonic.

    I'm curious as to how the gun was supported during firing. The crosshairs jumping wildly all around the target is not conducive to great accuracy.

    So its a Ruger 10-22 trigger.! The rest of it is after market parts.! I am SOOOO glad I never bought a Ruger 10-22. I bought a Marlin model 60 SS and the other is the Marlin 795. ALL original. ALL factory. And they are great shooters. Too bad Ruger cant make a great 22 shooter to go with the trigger they make.
