I loved when he called BS on the "schizophrenia" diagnosis. I'm a psychologist and I hate when shows portrait delusions = schizophrenia. There are multiple psychotic disorders, some induced by substances, some for neurochemical disbalances, among others. Schizophrenia is a disease that gathers a bunch of symptoms, delution being the most common/relevant, however there are many types of schizophrenia and other symptoms that NEED to be tsken in consideration for the diagnosis. Also, we usually don't inform the patient his diagnosis like it's the flu.
Sorry if something sounds odd, english is not my native language.
why do you not tell patients their diagnosis? what’s the harm? thank you :)
@@jomerci2113 I think what she is trying to say is they don't diagnose schizophrenia as a clear cut and dry case, like what they would do with say the flu. It's a complex neurological disorder with a lot going on; its not as simple.
@@jomerci2113 I think that if someone has a mental condition and you tell him right away that they have it they could be very stressed/non coperative so it may be better to not tell them
I will say nowadays this does prove to be true, after all I can’t tell you all how many times anyone and everyone will be the quickest to say “hEs a nArcIsSit and a pSyChoPatH, aNd a hInT oF sOcIoPaTh” it bears repeating and putting labels just bc they do one thing doesn’t mean it’s always true

I think its very important because Doctors need to be able to explain patience's situation in a very understandable way. Most people arent Doctors so I think Doctor Mike is quite used to explaining complex stuff to people who dont really know much about that topic

Well...my older sibling would freak out if she knew this channel was a thing
05:05 I'm actually taking Psychology lessons and the one thing that keeps getting repeated about Schizophrenia is that it's really hard to diagnose, so I gotta agree with you. The thought that he could accurately diagnosed schizophrenia after a minute-long interaction is ridiculous
I think that was another time they were trying to highlight Shaun's "abilities" bc of his Autism and Savant Syndrome that most surgeons/doctors don't have lol
Watching these Good Doctor reviews is what prompted me to get evaluated for autism, because I realized that the way Sean acted was a lot like me. So, thanks Doctor Mike!! My life has improved so much since I was diagnosed.
Do you speak in a robotic, emotionless voice and are just good at math for no reason?
@@AkameGaKillfan777 That is a very insensitive approach to describing someone who may have autism, not everyone with the same neurological condition have the exact same behaviour to another person. Rose may have limitations socially and realised, after watching a doctor talk about it and then getting in touch with interventions programs. And all of this could've been avoided, if what you said was just light-hearted humour then in that case I may also have to get tests done :)
@@muhammed2174 I'm talking about my issue with how it's portrayed in media. EVERY autistic character is done like this and it annoys me. I have not met a single autistic person in real-life who behaves that way.
That is sooo incorrect. I have autism but I can perfectly go incognito and seem like a very social emphatic person while I'm not. I do see for myself alot of things that I have in common with Sean, but every person with autism is different. I understand other human beings very difficult. I have it incredibly difficult to read emotions and how people think and that has caused me to be in very unpleasant situations. Also I am not an incredibly smart person. Everyone with autism is different as I said. Some people with autism actually have a lower iq than a person without autism would have. I am incredibly creative though. I see possibilities that others may not see and I have very smart ideas.
I also learn languages very easy and I can remember alot. So there's a negative side to autism and a positive side.

the most unrealistic thing in this episode is a homeless man being able to afford major surgery in the US
Felix Henson That is so depressingly true.
Thats what I was wondering too... unless the hospital sponsored him for publicity. if i found out that I have a tumor while in USA, I will move to Canada, or Cuba for treatment or just die (so at least my family can live without going bankrupt )
@@MrGeorgeFlorcus hey,im not Canadian, but yeah i know that just bcz i happen to be in Canada im not entitled to free health care. Still, i guess it would be cheaper than USA. Or even waiting till i get entitled to Canadian health care is better than "being involved in criminal gangs just to pay medical bills" 😂 btw, i come from a "so called" third world country with free health care
Many hospitals have charitys to pay for stuff like this, and it's a rule that you can't deny someone treatment.
Except a homeless person would almost certainly be immediately approved for medicaid at the hospital because they have no income& they need health care

Untreated dental infections can lead to meningitis (or pericarditis, endocarditis or a whole lot of other infections). Not really a zebra and definitely important to rule out
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia when I was 16 and most people can't even tell. We're not crazy people and most of us are really nice (or at least in my situation with the few other people I've met with it)
Sorry but schizophrenia is pretty much the epitome of crazy. It’s not your fault, though. And I’m glad you’re a nice person. People like you can live pretty normal lives.

@Michala1998 what is autism?
It's Shaun with a u
Another autistic person here that agrees with you!
The other thing that Mike didn't touch on is that Shaun lost his toy scalpel and was stressed over that too which upset him and made it harder for him to do his job. Autism causes that kind of attachment and difficulty focusing on a task because you lost something.
Hello fellow Autism Person, definitely have to agree with your opinion, and since I managed to locate another person with autism...
Does your autism prohibit you from talking about what's going wrong?
I swear I keep this stress built up over the years and eventually every few months stress starts getting to me.
And yes, I am an autistic person asking another autistic person if they experience this as well... Probably wanting to know if it's not just me.

I love this guy so much, one of the reasons is I relate to him. I don't have savant syndrome but I do have autism and while I'm a bit more socially adept than him I can still understand most of the strange things he asks and why he doesn't realise they're weird. I don't recognise some of the weird things he asks, because I don't see them as weird thanks to having autism as well. And can I just point out earlier in the episode when he talked about handling sensitive information inside it could have been recognising social cues. Or (which I think is more likely) I think he was just remembering things he's been told and not understanding why they aren't going inside, thanks to his lack of social cues and realising they don't want to.
Either way, great video and I love watching all of your videos :D

The sign of a good teacher/someone that knows the subject matter can teach complicated subjects in a way a layman understands
But the real issue is that medical knowledge is way deeper than what is being explained to the general audience here. Most of what he explains in these videos is probably assumed by the teacher to be known by the dumbest guy in class. Me: 🧐🤔🤨
If you watch enough of chubby emu you should know hyper meaning high
"medical jibberish" lmao😂😂😂
Yeah no, it’s not medical jibberish. Both pulmonary and hypertension are commonly used terms in the medical field.
Jason Castle it’s medical jargon...
all "medical jibberish" is just a mix of latin and greek.
My dads a pharmacist and my mom used to be a nurse (she had to quit after she had me and my sister) and they always watch doctor shows and correct everything! Also, your videos have made me want to be a doctor when I am older
You're right about the over stimulation of sound or light, because I have to deal with that too, because I myself am autistic.
Shaun: you have schizophrenia Harry
Harry: I have what?
Shaun: YOU HAVE SCHIZOPHRENIA
Edit: this was originally a joke to (Your a wizard Harry!) But in the comments we got people talking to each-other about homeless people paying for the treatment

Shane Dawson?
@@bigtoefungusvs.friedpochun7612 lol ikr
the most unrealistic thing in this episode is a homeless man being able to afford major surgery in the US
The Good Doctor and House were both created by David Shore, who is also producer and writer of both shows. This is why there are so many similarities between two. I would explain "Cuddy's" reappearance LOL
Why isn't his shirt giving him chest compressions anymore?
I, too, am “concerned.”
By concerned, I mean disappointed.
We probably gave him a complex about it 😬😅 lol
can’t believe y’all cyber bullied him into wearing normal shirts
He read all the comments
Look what you all did with your comments 😂
I guess i will rewatch from the start while watching ur reactions....it's awsome dude....educative actually
I have a math exam day after tomorrow but idk but I'm way more interested in these types of videos. The doctors explaining what, why and how the body deals or cannot deal with specific problems.
4:06 “those pills are for people with chlamydia, Harry”
I read this in Hagrid’s voice
Dan D dead😂
It's even funnier because Dr. Mike looks like Harry with those glasses.

@@MrZaranthan Ofc it's never lupus. Does lupus even exist? Not in this HOUSEhold (wow I'm hilarious)

Him: No The Brain tumor cheated on us
I had pulmonary hypertension. I no longer have pulmonary hypertension because in my instance, it was caused by "absolutely massive" pulmonary embolisms. I almost did not make it because no one thought I had PE. (After being admitted to the hospital through the ER, one of the nurses told me they don't usually see people like me "up on the floor" because someone like me usually goes from the ER to the morgue. Some doc came into my room looked at me and said, Wow, we don't usually see people like you sitting up.) I did have to have surgical intervention in which they did a use cardiac catherization that included bringing medicine directly to the lungs and medication that cost over $20,000 per 90 ct (1 month supply) and I had to take it for over 1 year. I was "told" that I would not recover from pulmonary hypertension by the nurse assigned by the pharma folks. I told her, you don't know me and I WILL overcome PH...and I did. My pulmonary hypertension specialist (a brilliant PH cardiologist) told me during my last visit a few months ago that if he didn't know my history, he would never know that I had any issues at all.
1:27 Every transplant usually requires immunosuppressant therapy to a certain extent, it all depends on how the recipient reacts to the transplanted organ or tissue.
Dr. Mike: "They haven't even made the incision yet and she's already flatlining" 😂😂
Everybody bitching about "it's exactly what it sounds like."
It is. You can break down the conditions name and figure out what it is. It's called etymology.
Exactly
Pull = apply force towards oneself
Mona = female name, most famously Mona Lisa
Ree = angry or alarmed screech
Hi = greeting
Pair = two of something
Tens = big number
Shun = cast out, shoo away
Thus:
pulmonary hypertension = meeting of two people who then evacuate a bunch of people, while alarms go off due to the Mona Lisa being stolen again
Bruh, who put the horse head in your bed this morning?
