The fact that the watermelon broke is probably what saved her from a much worse injury. A good deal of the energy was used up breaking the watermelon as opposed to breaking her bones.
another note you might find interesting about the dance moms clip: Nia (the girl who got injured) also has Reflex neurovascular dystrophy, so i cant imagine how painful that was to her despite it being a somewhat minor injury
Septic arthritis is no joke, it's what killed my mother. Partly because she mistook the early symptoms for pneumonia and didn't seek treatment until it was well advanced.
She'd had a shoulder replacement surgery several years prior, then apparently just one day it 'went bad' on her. Pro tip, I guess, if you suddenly start having problems with a previously asymptomatic implant, get thee to a medical professional and don't just write it off as the flu...
When food is involved, that's very important. Back when I was still in High School my mom fixed hamburgers for dinner, but mine wound up being contaminated with E-Coli and wasn't cooked enough to kill the bacteria, and I wound up seriously ill for about a week since antibiotics don't work on E-Coli, I had to wait for my body to fight it off on it's own, and that was not a fun experience. The stomach cramps alone were agony, and would instantly knock me off my feet whenever they hit. Even though it was food my mom prepared, I was contacted by the health department not long after so that they could ask me questions to try and figure out where the E-Coli had come from. There's a reason why restaurant menus explicitly warn you about under-cooked meat.
That's the great thing about Gordon, he's hard on the people he's training because that's how he was trained but he's also a caring and compassionate man.
He noticed before that there was rotten lobster and took it back from all the people who already ordered it but was too late on that gentleman. They ended up calling an ambulance for him.
(Not so) Fun fact: the reason why Gordon Ramsey asked if that lady’s friend was a vegetarian is because they soaked their tomato soup in ham bones or something and didn’t disclose it
That wouldn’t matter. Being a vegetarian and having soup soaked in bones wouldn’t maje you sick. Maybe there are some medical reasons to be vegetarian but it’s mostly a personal choice. Gordon Ramsey asked if they were vegetarian because if they are then that eliminates the possibility of undercooked meat.
@@Zeldagirlartist If you have been vegetarian/vegan for a long time your body sort of ‘forgets’ how to digest the animal products you no longer eat, so if her friend had been vegetarian for a long time having bone broth would indeed make him sick.
@Zeldagirlartist Well, no..if you watch the episode, Gordon is essentially screaming at them that you can't serve meat to a vegetarian, period end of story, which is what the restauraunt was doing. It wasnt because he thought it would make people sick, just that it was immoral
@@Zeldagirlartist Also if someone happens to have an allergy, and that's why you don't eat meat, that's a major issue. Not all vegetarians do so just because they want to, sometimes there are allergies or other medical reasons.
In that Gordon Ramsey clip, Gordon had found a dead lobster in the tank with the live ones not ten minutes before service began in that restaurant. Presumably he thought simply telling the staff "don't serve any lobster that's been in that tank" would be enough for them to... not do that. But then, this is 'Kitchen Nightmares,' so...

@@ethanc8460 not necessarily, perhaps they listened to Ramsay's advice and just closed due to circumstance. Idk if they followed up on it but id be surprised if they didn't change anything and stayed open for 10 years (especially after the kitchen nightmares episode)
I was a national level athlete. One late night practice, I had a very serious fall. I was told not to compete that weekend, but this was what I'd been training for! A month later the doc showed us fractures in my spine and told us that I was "faking it"! So even with the pain I went back to skating for another 6 mths, which was the most humiliating and painful way to end my career. Finally a neurosurgeon did an MRI and had me in for my first of 3 surgeries within 2 weeks. 30 years later I still deal with severe chronic pain from sciatica and degenerative disc disease. I'm actually waiting on an MRI now with the real possibility that another surgery is in my future. Moral of the story, take injuries seriously and don't allow anyone to dismiss the pain or symptoms you have!
Yea sadly I fell into that problem where I had extremely bad pain in my stomach area after some bad hits there.. For a long while I was told that it was all in my head.. So I just dealt with it and kept going.. The pain eventually got crippling, I could not move that much and I was.. Once again. Told it was either in my head or I am faking it. This is also where I was told that if the pain really was as bad as I was "acting" like it was, I would be screaming as they put it. I eventually started vomiting blood, and because I did not do so right in front of them I had to be lying.. According to them.. Well. A few days later the vomiting blood and the pain was getting extremely bad.. and I genuinely felt like I was going to die.. A friend of mine and my brother both took me to the doctor, ( Because of the doctor and the emergency room, and my brother listening to them.. He was insisting that I go there first. ) but the lady running the admittance area told them to take me to the hospital right then, but to a nearby cities hospital, not the one I had went to last at said point. ( She did not say why ) .. Keep in mind I did not even make it into the Doctor's building as she seen me through the windowed door, very slowly moving my way to it.. As soon as she seen me she screamed at them to take me to the hospital and what hospital.. They did so.. Turned out if I just kept listening to that doctor, as well as the emergency room of that city.. I would have died that day. I had diverticulitis and it was at the end stages of it. I had emergency surgery, lost several feet of intestine, lost some of my stomach and a few other small bits of a few other organs.. Was given a ton of serious antibiotics.. Ect.. The emergency surgeon told me that I probably would not have made it if the surgery did not take place when it did.. That was how close to death I was. Due to the damage that was done.. I have had several more surgeries since all due to this mess.. In chronic pain, and about ever 8 months or so, sometimes less, sometimes a bit longer.. I tend to have to go to the emergency room for IV-based antibiotics.. Have been told its probably something that will go on for the rest of my life on that.. This was back in 2011 and I was 26.. Basically I really should have went to another doctor and perhaps another emergency room for a second opinion.. Like in your case, do not let others just dismiss things like what happened with me. I almost died due to that and even with living I am contentiously paying the price for it basically. Wish someone gave that advice to me when I was younger, and same as to you Kyote 10.. Hope at least anyone who reads what you mentioned and what I am mentioning here will at least learn from our examples and make sure to at the very least a second and possibly third opinion from others who do not work in the same exact building/area. ( Admittedly, at the time I did not know how seriously bad the reputation the hospital, the only hospital in said city I might add.. Was extremely bad.. The Doctor I was seeing.. Honestly I do not recall if I ever checked on theirs but I stopped going to that place all together as well after that. Did thank the receptionist though for what she said when I was finally able to. )
Unfortunately, females don't get their pain taken seriously and non-athletes with athletic like injuries don't get taken seriously either. Especially if you already have arthritis. I just had 3 dislocated bones in my hand/wrist reduced/partially reduced yesterday in a very rare & weird type of dislocation that is usually only seen in athletes who fall at a very particular angle with intense velocity... not me. I did it by using a hand rail on the stairs. Orthopedic urgent care brushed it off. "Nothing visible on xray" and they barely palpated the region. I see my actual ortho doc a week later and he's like "wow, you can actually see the lump from the ulna." Well, these types of dislocations don't show on 95% of imaging according to the studies I read.. and most end up as surgical cases. I got lucky. No fall involved means no broken scaphoid process. And this is just the most recent time of something weird happening and being brushed off. If you are female with chronic musculoskeletal issues, you get taken less seriously than a man with the same issues and you both don't get taken anywhere near as seriously as an athlete or even a typical bodied person.

Vomiting blood was already concerning, but the instant she said she was on birth control, I got even more concerned about the state of her blood. In Dance Moms, from what I remember the instructor was really harsh and cruel with all the kids in the show and in some cases so were the moms. The Kardashian one bothered me. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis over a year ago and the process was INSANELY painful. It took a couple weeks to spread from a toe and finger joint to my whole body and once I got in to see my doctor, all she could do was send me to a rheumatologist. Problem was it took six months to get in to see one, and in that time I could barely dress myself, couldn't prepare my own food, turn doorknobs etc. I don't have all the context on the Kardashians, but RH is a lot worse than they made it seem.
Also the words 'Panic attack', 'in shock' 'ocd' are used by the media to describe people being overwhelmed or scared or happy, but in reality, a panic-attack is not when you grab at your head and go; 'Oh no, I forgot my keys' and then you have to ring the doorbell and ask your neighbour for the key. That is a panic-moment, not a panic-attack. And 'in shock' is when the blood goes to your vital organs and you are about to pass out and perhaps even die. Not when your wife throws you a birthdayparty and you are shocked. OCD ofcourse, as we all know is not 'getting annoyed with a folded corner in a book' either and so on. As a result of those words, whenever I descibe some bad situation, everyone always assumes the lightest or assumes I am overracting in how I mentioned it, rather than taking at face value that I am trying to be subtle in my wording.
A pharmacist I used to work with had rheumatoid arthritis. She was in her 20s. By the end of a shift she had to have us technicians open the safety caps for her because her fingers hurt so bad.
Why are you angry at her for having access? Obviously if you had her money…you just said you’d also go in right away? So she did what you wanted. Be angry at the system not the person. Also her spotlighting it probably helped a lot of people and as Dr Mike said, normalizes it.

Speaking of cauterizing; when my mom was younger her nose kept bleeding for several hours, so the doctors cauterized it. I'm so glad that celebrities who have these conditions have been coming forward. I've always admired Stacy London, and learning that she has psoriasis really helped me understand that autoimmune disorders affect so many and that I wasn't alone. As someone with plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, it can be isolating and overwhelming with the doctors appointments and medications I need just to feel a sense or normal.
I started developing psoriasis about 7 or 8 years ago and it can be embarrassing, I've had people ask why I have cigarette burns on my arms and chest :/
I've recently developed eczema and it's so embarrassing when people ask if it's contagious. Makes me feel like a leper. It would be great if there was more awareness so that people would ask questions like that less.
Fellow PSA sufferer here, my daughter and I both have it, my daughter was diagnosed when she was 25.......PSA sucks and psoriasis is so much more than just a bit of flakey skin.
It saddens me that Psoriasis is not taken seriously and doctors only want to treat the symptoms and not the actual condition. For those unaware, the plaque (or scaly patches of skin) that can develop is a symptom of the underlying cause which is an over-active immune response. Essentially your body is in a constant state of inflammation due to your immune system being too aggressive and attacking itself. This can lead to many many health complications if left untreated. Just using topical creams to relieve the symptoms will not treat the underlying conditions. Psoriasis was misunderstood for a long time and there is a lot of really good research on it now. If you suffer from it, you should advocate for immune suppressants to help treat the underlying condition. which will make the symptoms go away as well.
I got a tear in my esophagus from throwing up and coughing too much. It leaked air into the space “between my skin and muscles” was how it was described to me. My neck felt like bubble wrap to the touch
My dad was a mechanic and one day was working with removing a transmission when the jack slipped and jammed his hand against the frame of the car. He ended up getting a blood blister under his nail. Yeah, when I was a kid I got my thumb caught in a spring loaded door, created blood blister on my thumb, I was like 10 years old, my mom literally sat on me to keep me from squirming, I was terrified, while my stepfather took a drill to it. It worked, but was very scary for a kid! lol
I would love another video on migraines. They’re seriously misunderstood and the 20 seconds of info you gave was a great basic summary of treatments I’ve tried over the last 5 years. Past me would have greatly benefited from this information.
Yes, I would love a video on migraines also. I've dealt with them most of my life (23 years) and cannot take triptans due to side effects. Fortunately I have a great neurologist
I had migraines most of my adult life. I use paracetamol, then sumatriptan, then oxycodone if the sumatriptan doesn't work. That works for me. But I try to keep the oxycodone down to once or twice a week if possible. Generally doctors don't like prescribing opioids for headaches, but pain management was good to me. And I've had oxycodone for 12 years, I get opioid dependent a couple times a year, but addiction is fairly rare, and I've always found it easy to stop the oxycodone when I don't need it.
@@dhesyca4471I’ve only ever had one real migraine years ago while at work at my fairly new job (really embarrassing. It was debilitating). My heart goes out to you and other people suffering through chronic migraines. It came out of nowhere. All of a sudden I was like, “that’s weird… I can’t see out of my left eye.” Like what happens after a camera flash. Then BAM! The worst blinding pain I’ve ever experienced. I had to lock myself in the employee bathroom with the lights off for a half hour while we were extremely busy. I just knew some coworkers/managers thought I was overreacting. Ever since then, I don’t judge or question anyone claiming to be having a severe headache or migraine. Absolutely horrible condition.

My reaction to that remark was so mixed because like, I understand that celebrities are often deeply concerned with how other people think of them and pop beauty standards don't tend to mix with chronic rashes or blemishes. But on the other hand, I've had psoriasis since I was like, 12 and one of the few things I'm confident of is it doesn't stop me from being pretty.
I worked through having a kidney stone until my boss called the lab manager who told me I had to go to the ER. I was walking hunched over with racks of blood samples from the centrifuge to the chemistry analyzer. So my boss put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me to the ER. It was a kidney stone. Oh yeah, I was 20 weeks pregnant too. I told you it wasn’t the baby Tim!! (The baby is 24 now lol)
With the Hell's Kitchen clip, there was actually an earlier scene in that episode where the guy who had the slipped disk fell on his back while roller skating. It's possible that could have agitated his condition.
That thing he was talking about with the bruise under the nail actually happened to me just recently. I was lifting dumbbells and one of my friends poked me in my sides, causing the weight to be unbalanced, I tried to set it down slowly but me ring finger got stuck underneath. The swelling went down after a day and I tried to get something through the nail to release the pressure but I just couldn’t get through bc of the pain. I finally got the nail off about a week ago and the new nail has already started growing back in. I just find it funny that something like that has happened to ME before and I have a VERY uneventful life. Moral of the story kids: *DO NOT ROUGH HOUSE AROUND HEAVY OBJECTS*
Awesome hearing about migraines. A lot of people hear that and think "Oh bad headache" Man they ruined my life. I've had them every day for 5 years, used to use painkillers for two years but had to stop because I forgot my pills for a trip and noticed withdrawal symptoms. So I wanted to be safe, sober and not having Doctors think I'm looking for opiates whenever I see them. Medication overuse pain is wild. I'm praying for the day where we have a true non addictive painkiller that aren't symptom based like NSAIDs
Yeah, it is *so* much more than a headache. And yeah, the headache itself can get pretty wild, too. But a lot of people don't realize that a migraine can even happen *without* a headache, because it's not just a headache, it's a neurological event which often produces one.
3:39 Some are even 'I'm sick, stop asking me questions, stop touching me [meaning don't examine me], just treat me'. How's the doctor supposed to treat you if you won't let them figure out what's wrong with you?
Thank you Mike, I feel so validated! I have OCD and one of the ways it happens is I look up *everything*. I don't go to the doctor and say "I have this" but I know my symptoms, and I've spent the last two weeks obsessively looking these things up online, so I go in and say, "hey, I'm curious if it's this, because it seems to fit my symptoms, but I'm willing to be wrong" and doctors never fail to get super mad. (I'm often right, too, because of how much time I spend reading medical journals and looking at pictures of rashes etc, but I obviously know I need a doctor to tell me, because I'm also often wrong)
That's really awful. Doctors should be listening to you and appreciate your research. Even if you are wrong, it's useful info for the doctor to know what your diagnosis is. Good doctors should listen to your ideas and use it to help form their diagnosis.
Some doctors just can't stand it unless they're THE smartest person in the room. I hate that. It's a sign they're probably too insecure in their own lives to be of much help to anybody else... Here's hoping there are still some doctors left in the phone book, so you can keep up the good search... Good luck... AND GOOD HUNTING! ;o)
I feel this. Though what I also find especially frustrating is when it's a condition you're already familiar with due to having a family member or close friend that deals with it and you having similar symptoms, but then when you bring it up, the doctor is like "oh I see someone's been using Google" in a condescending tone.
I've had times where I was scared to tell doctors about concerns I had because I thought they'd write me off. Had a doctor several years ago who when I brought up a concern immediately wrote it off without even ever doing a full intake examination as not being there because I didn't present one (not that obvious necessarily, especially not over Zoom like the appointment was) symptom. Guess who was diagnosed with that condition three years later... I switched doctors because first doctor didn't listen to any of my concerns and never gave advice, the new doctor did an intake and immediately referred me to get tested for the condition that i was told I didn't have by the last doctor. I've had some great doctors, but I've also had some bad doctors, and the bad ones really suck. Doctors shouldn't come into an examination thinking that the patient is dumb and faking (there are an alarming number of people faking disorders, but assuming everyone is making things up will lead to you missing a lot of cases).
I have just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and I was obviously having problems with multiple joints and I finally got insurance. I got to the doctor and I was telling him about how I needed to get an overall exam bc Ihad no way to get checked out most of my life and then I figured I'd get whatever I can get started on so I see what's going on with my body. He said he would only be able to see me on one issue a visit. Like a knee or a hand but not both and I was on a wait list for 3 years to see a specialist.
Oh God the crushed finger sent me on a triggered flashback to high school where my thumb got smashed in the door henge gap of a HEAVY wooden door that always slammed close. Dr. Mike is right that the melting/drilling/burning (I didn't watch) didn't hurt but them squeezing my thumb to help get the blood out hurt SO BAD 😳.
My brother got his finger slammed in the bathroom door at Dairy Queen once. It was one of those big heavy doors where you basically have to put all your weight in just to open it. We practically flew to the hospital to make sure it wasn't broken.
It’s disheartening to see the kardashians get the tests they need right away for symptoms I’ve been having. My doctors and the ER refuse to do the tests I need because I’m young. 100% it’s because they’re rich and can go to any doctor they want.
@@zyanneabrams9195honestly id keep looking, at least screening for Dr's cause yea they should look out for your wellbeing and use their own medical knowledge, but they can't just completely ignore your concerns and not even look into it. But for your medical wellbeing, I'd definitely continue to look for another Dr's opinion.
Well, you can't actually blame them for that. If I had their money, I would absolutely do the same. And besides, it's health - that's mainly where you should spend the money you have. The American Healthcare System is the one to blame. I'm not American and I can't even imagine living with a system like that with my chronical sick ass.
About the birth control migraine thing, I was on a birth control that made my migraines more often and more severe, so I decided I’d rather risk bleeding through everything in two hours than deal with the migraines. I literally didn’t about the migraine blood clot thing until Dr. Mike said it right now. I tried several different birth controls over 5 years and when I questioned whether birth control could be impacting my migraines I was told by multiple doctors that birth control would help my migraines, so I kept trying different ones. after finally stopping my current birth control I realized that my migraines improved substantially. My migraines had been increasingly worse to the point that I had them almost daily. 😡 I do still get migraines, but I would rather have a handful of migraines a month and a few super bad period days than have a migraine daily. I know I’m ranting here. I’m just frustrated with women’s bodies and migraines not having nearly enough research, and doctors not being up to date on topics that impact a good portion of the population
The more I listen to DM, the more I realize his profession is similar to IT. He talks about knowing how an injury happened is as important as the examination of the area - same for fixing IT issues/software bugs, knowing what a person was doing or trying to do when an error appears or software crashes or whatever is just as important as the error text.

I've had a boss tell me a little headache wasn't reason enough to call out of a shift... anyways, another awesome video!
Seriously, people need to learn that there is a difference between headaches and migraines. The only similarity is that there is pain in somewhere around the head/eyes.
I get regular headaches maybe 4-5 days a week. But maybe once or twice a month I will get something that is more like a migraine. Nothing helps (heat, ice, or any pain meds or caffeine) and it sticks around for 24 hours. I cannot move, cannot tolerate any sound or light, and get sooooo nauseous, even vomiting. It's those times when I actually want to die. I cannot imagine what it is like to have them more often. My regular headaches are still pretty bad, but at least I can usually dull them enough with medicine or heat/ice to be able to function after a few hours. Migraines are a different beast.

Hey Dr. Mike! Fun luttle tidbit for you. The knee-jerk reflex is an adaptation to maintain standing upright without having to think about it. When you're holding something really heavy, you need to react with more force to maintain standing upright then if you have nothing in your hands. Holding onto your hands and pulling really hard tricks your brain into thinking that you are holding something that's very heavy, and therefore you react more strongly.
Wish I had seen a doctor so many times when I had migraines. Everything you listed I had...got worse with activity, auras, it took very severe symptoms and eventually a seizure that brought me to the ER and turns out I had a 3.3cm right frontal lobe cavernoma that oozed!!!

I’ve had those, too. Luckily, I had one in the doctor’s office in front of the doctor! He was able to diagnose and help me right away. Months later, he said it was scary for him and to please not do it ever again. 😂 He’s a great guy, and we laugh about everything. I’m sorry you went through it, too.
In 2010 there was a german Show called „Wetten dass…?“. A guy challenged himself that he could Jump over driving cars. Something went wrong and the car hit him. After that accident he was paraplegic. It was the 192. episode of the show and also the last one. After the incident they canceled the show
This is probably one of my favorite videos as of recently. A lot of cool inofrmation. It's really cool to see how Dr. Mike processes the information he is given as he would if he was the doctors in this video.
I struggle with daily headaches/migraines, this has been happening for YEARS. So I’ve now seen 2 different Neurologists. They originally thought it was birth control so went on an UDI.. helped a bit but not by much. So I’ve tried 5-6 different preventative medications and nothing was working, my second neurologist was able to put me on the Ajovy injection (medication for migraines) honestly helped me 80%-90%. Helps sooo much! I also have been prescribed Razitriptan (might have spelled it wrong) for the days leading up to my next injection date because my headaches and migraines come back a week before my injection date. Amazing stuff honestly!!! ❤
@@canislupus4655 oh I totally agree! And my neurologist said the same company that makes Ajovy had been working on a pill form. I hope it comes out soon I’d rather just take a pill than the painful injection
I really respect this doctor, from being handsome, informative, and not being too serious giving good vibes, his patients must be very lucky to have him as a doctor.
I'm sorry but the mom's paused face at 9:50 XD Like that expression sums up the whole "I value my daughter's dance career over her physical well-being"
My dad used to drain hematomas by gently drilling a small hole into the nail with a pen knife. I once had a finger slammed in a file cabinet drawer so I had a hematoma. The doctor described heating a paper clip and melting the nail. I was horrified, but it turns out this was good advice. The trick is to do it correctly.
@@suziecarr1566It’s got to be from the top, or else you’ll hurt yourself, you shouldn’t be felling any pain, at all, caused by the hot paperclip. Maybe a little heat, because ofc it’s metal that’s heated up, but other than that you shouldn’t have any pain that’s caused by the needle/paperclip.
The checking the reflexes is SO real! I'm an adult and even I do the thing with pulling my hands apart just to make sure the doctor can see as accurate of a reaction as possible. Especially since I have a pretty rare neuromuscular disease that isn't well understood and I wanna prove to the doctor that whatever reaction they're seeing is real. It's gets real funny when I automatically clasp my hands together without being prompted to and the doctor is like "wait, you know the trick? Nice!" 😂
I agree weight bearing on a broken ankle is tough, however when I was 12 I fractured multiple bones in my ankle and walked around on it for about 2 weeks before getting an X-ray. Granted I had a nasty limp but I got around haha. Just made me have to wear my cast even longer since I waited to get it looked at trying to be a tough guy.
when i was young i used to get extremely severe migraines that i was screaming big pain so obviously she took me to the doctor. at first they suggested pollution and dehydration but when they kept happening the doctors did multiple x-rays and even and mri when all before i was 10. they thought i might have cancer or a cyst in my brain but they came up with nothing. to this day i still get migraines quite frequently but they have become less severe. or maybe i’ve just grown a tolerance, who knows. anyway i love these videos so much thank you Dr. Mike! ❤
7:45 "Why are they trying to get a walrus on board?" Guy jumps off boat and before he even hits the water, AD! It was such a funny/awkward unintentional cliff hanger of sorts and I just burst out laughing from Dr. Mike's comment and now I look insane. 😂
8:50 I walk on my toes and this stuff happens to me a LOT. Only once, however, has it done anything worse than a bit of pain. That one time, however, i nearly broke it. This reminded me of that

My friend told my it literally sounded like breaking a handfull if glowsticks💀
It’s actually Lupus Awareness Month! As someone with Lupus I can tell you it’s horrible. It’s hell. I’ve got SLE and have had it for 7 years. We need more advocacy and more understanding doctors like Dr. Mike. That goes with all chronic diseases. Most write off folks with chronic diseases, but Dr. Mike doesn’t judge or ignore. Well done, sir!
I feel so validated about what you said about finger infections! I had one of those last year and my GP tried three different antibiotics, nothing helped, so she sent me to the hospital...where they basically told me to suck it up and don't be a cry baby. The sent me home with pain killers when I was no longer able to use my right hand due to the massive pain and swelling. My finger was scarred and swollen for 8 months 😓
When I was figuring out my medical issues. My doctor asked me to get my blood tested to see what it could be when looking at and discussing my blood work, I had exactly the border amount of Lupus antibodies that i couldn't be diagnosed with Lupus. I thought it was odd that they never looked into that further.
I've actually had hypothermia (mild case) on a 30 degree celcius day. Catch is it was when i spent all day on the front of a small teaching boat instructing new teenage sailors. They were new enough they couldnt go out without an instructor, but experienced enough that i was never needed to step in and fix things, so i just stayed on the bow, giving tips, and telling them to fix small mistakes. Catch is. I live on the atlantic coast of canada, so we were sailing in medium choppy waters of the Atlantic ocean. I didn't notice until we got back to the wharf, and got off the boat and didn't need to focus on keeping the students safe on the open water. From the cold spray constantly hitting me, that i ended up having hypothermia. I don't recommend it. It wasn't overly fun. Even a mild case. Hope everyone is taking care.
When you were talking about the foot injuries, I immediately thought of the two separate more severe foot injuries I’ve had. The first was a bad sprain that took ages to heal, caused by stepping wrong. That one I could move my foot but not bear weight. The other was a fracture in my fifth metatarsal and my talus from falling down the stairs- for that one i could not bear weight or move my foot for months. No cast, just a boot- but I never want to repeat! I had a lot of trouble with managing to even stand on crutches that time, and only realized why when the bruises finally reached the surface of my skin- all over my foot and leg that were not broken. Oops! The pain of the foot was so much more than anything else that I didn’t even realize my other side was also beaten up!
Dr Mike!! I'd love to see you react to Medical Evacuations from the show Alone. The concept is insane and there have been lots of injuries where contestants have tended to their wounds themselves with varying results. No one has died but people put themselves in insane situations!! Thanks for the informative videos always!
I'd love to hear Dr. Mike's theory on how my grandfather's spine was twisted in three places, two different discs just floating around in is back, and he had a dislocated rotary cuff and he only somehow started feeling pain last year when he lightly sat down in a chair to read a newspaper.
My mum and I used to watch Deadliest Catch when I was younger (well, mostly she watched it and I played on the floor) and one day my grandmother came round and knocked on the door so she paused the tv and it was paused exactly on a close up of a guy's finger that had been lacerated in some way by one of the crab crates and there was a LOT of blood - I wasn't the best with anything remotely gory at that age and I hated it, I almost cried! It's a memory that's stuck with me until this day.
I would love to see Doctor Mike do a stint on the Deadliest Catch, being a Doctor out there for all the Crab fishermen and anyone possibly who comes to those clinics/mini hospitals.
As someone with psoriasis, I could tell just from looking that the patches on her leg were psoriasis @14:31. I get the same type of patches when I'm sick or really stressed... I can only imagine the stress she goes through with the filming and other stuff she does.
Ankle injury is no joke. I never had any injuries growing up other than simple cuts, bumps, and bruises. Then, one day at 19, I rolled both my ankles at the same time because of an uneven porch step. They ballooned so fast and so big, my friends mom, who was a nurse for 20 years, thought I'd broken at least 1 of them. I was unable to walk more than 10 feet on crutches for 2 weeks. It's been almost 10 years and my ankles have never been the same.
I have sucky ankles. Thankfully I've never broken/sprained either, but I have rolled my ankles at the same time, while en pointe🥵 Probably my personal scariest moment of my life. I'm very thankful that I've never had anything worse than bruised ankles
Okay, so, with hells kitchen #2, my father had that recently. Like he said, it disturbs the nerve causing pain in certain areas, but can also cause other sensations such as the feeling of your leg being literally on fire. It basically corrupts your nerves and causes pain and other uncomfortable feelings that are actually not happening.
4:45 My wife has deteriorated discs from L2 down to S1. L2-L5 are now fused and she's shortly going to get L5-S1 fused. The pain is unbelievable! Take care of your spine folks!

i like how Gordon goes straight up to ask if there feeling and well and ask what they ate to check on the food

Red meat can turn a stomach that isn't accustomed to red meat in a quick second. Learned that after an extended trip to India.

I love that Dr Mike mentioned hypothermia treatment following cardiac arrest. It’s what saved my dad’s life in 2021.
Did thank the receptionist though for what she said when I was finally able to. )
“Faking it” must have gone to a real bad doctor
If you are female with chronic musculoskeletal issues, you get taken less seriously than a man with the same issues and you both don't get taken anywhere near as seriously as an athlete or even a typical bodied person.
doctors like that don't deserve to be practicing medicine, i'm really sorry you were put through that.

There are different levels to it too. Each person has a different experience

My dad was a mechanic and one day was working with removing a transmission when the jack slipped and jammed his hand against the frame of the car. He ended up getting a blood blister under his nail. I remember he used his drill press to drill a hole in his nail. I thought he was a absolutely insane.

Is that ptsd with psychosomatic arthritis or a traumatic injury that healed into permanent arthritis?
I have psoriatic arthritis, unfortunately tremfya didn't work for me but taltz does! :) I have psoriasis on my scalp as well as inverse psoriasis, being clear of it is amazing!!

It was sad to see him go so soon because of the injury 😢 I’m glad Gordon gave him a second chance in a future season

A lot of people hear that and think "Oh bad headache"
Man they ruined my life.

8:09 - this man really thought he could lift a 1000kg animal in freezing ocean water. "I almost had it" ok bud...

About the birth control migraine thing, I was on a birth control that made my migraines more often and more severe, so I decided I’d rather risk bleeding through everything in two hours than deal with the migraines. I literally didn’t about the migraine blood clot thing until Dr. Mike said it right now.

The reflex trick for kids Dr. Mike describe was actually used on me last time by my doctor, so according to Dr. Mike, I am a child lol

The sent me home with pain killers when I was no longer able to use my right hand due to the massive pain and swelling. My finger was scarred and swollen for 8 months 😓
When I was figuring out my medical issues.

4:10 No, as someone who has disc issues. shitting can cause disc pain.
Never thought I’d see Impractical Jokers on Dr. Mike’s channel lol- that show is the best tbh!
I’m sorry but I can’t help but giggle at the watermelon clip, every time without fail I chuckle
The awkwardness in this is so funny 1:46
Mythbusters has several episodes revolving around medical circumstances. There's a great episode about how far, and how quickly a viral pathogen can propagate, and how to minimize transferring it.
10:05 😂 (part of the video) doctor mike is just talking casually while he doesn’t notice the way he paused the video😂😂 her face💀

I've just got a place in med school in the UK, and the entrance exams were brutal - so I understand how much preparation you have to do for it. But keep going! When you get a place (which you will), it makes it all worth it. Good luck my friend
