Totally agree that pacing was THE problem. The game was constantly interrupting us making us do different stuff rather than just let us enjoy the story. I'm surprised no other CC brought this up. Games like Genshin and Wuwa didn't have this problem since you could just ignore those side quests and feature unlocks for a while till you were ready for them.

I hate that even the hollow zero has the TV mode. I hate it. Not to mention the "skip dialogue" was a lie. Only certain scenes can be skipped. Most of the side quest you still need to spam through all the dialogues instead of outright skip all just like in Wuwa.

my thought is that the TVs are a system to delay the burn of the story, because reallistically.. you only have like 1 or 2 fights there, and not significant enough then. Oh my god. This is the first person that ACTUALLY recognises the actual issue. It's the story pacing. Story pacing in ZZZ is ridiculous. It takes over 8 HOURS to get to hollow zero if you didnt skip any voiced story. There is also about 3 minutes of TV to 2 minutes of combat in the story missions, and the loading screens and buffers are too much to deal with. Every time you interact with something in the TV, you get a loading buffer. It's way too much interruptions and hiccups in the pacing.

If I want exploration I go and play GI and WuWa but if I want a roguelike experience with fun upgrades and challenges then I prefer HSR and ZZZ. It's that simple lol. • @Geminosity
    @Geminosity 11 днів тому +44

I mostly agree: I think the absolute core problem is that you spend less than 20% of your play time as your gacha characters. I timed it in one session and it was actually only 15% of that particular one. People throw the hate for that onto the TV because it's the most obvious aspect of downtime but there's an absolute ton of them (dialogue, cutscenes, loading, transitions, wandering town, eating noodles, drinking coffee, navigating menus, photographing cats and many, many more that I can't recall off the top of my head.)
It's like the devs were afraid that if they made the players spend more than 2 minutes doing a single activity they'd get distracted by passing squirrels or something.
I wanted some dungeon crawling as the gacha characters (aka simply running about in a dungeon, opening chests, flipping switches and seamlessly going into and out of combat. Doesn't need to be an open world or even non-linear... I just want to play as my characters) and as if to insult me and folk with similar desires, they put exactly that as a limited activity after level 25: Rally missions. Most of us won't make it there because we'll be so done with the game we'll quit before we even get close. Thing is, even if I sucked it up and brute forced my way to the Rally missions, they're all one-shot so I'd eventually complete the handful there are and be left with only short-session style combat modes all over again with massive chunks of downtime between them (again, there's a heck of lot more downtime than just the TVs.)
I guess I'm glad there are people that are enjoying what the game actually is, but I feel like they're going to lose a whole lot of people who could've been easy customers if they'd committed to making Rally mode the prominent gameplay style rather than trying to cheap out with TVs and stubbornly sticking to it despite the CBT feedback you mentioned.
The irony, all these people being angry at the game is a GOOD thing because it means people actually care. The alternative is that people are completely apathetic which would genuinely doom it to obscurity. Again, I hope those who ARE enjoying it, don't let the negativity get to them... they should just play the game instead of wasting time getting bogged down in silly fights here, but the fact so many are bothered indicates there still might be more customers they can reach if they act fast and streamline the game a bit. Right now it's a bit too much of an ADHD simulator as they try and pepper you with as many short and quick activities as possible.

The problem is there are idiots in the people angry about the game. What I mean is they complain there is too much talkin in a just released game with a story to it so duh there will be talking. Not just that but this game should not be compared to WuWa because they are very different games targeting different audiences. Hoyo probably knew many did not like the exploration of Genshin/WuWa ( yes 2 hours collecting flowers or rocks to rank up one character, not for me.) and made ZZZ to lean more toward puzzles with the TVs and action combat. That is why I like it so far and as long as the same dev team that handles Genshin is not in charge then there is hope.
Currently only the action combat links those two games and pretty much all other aspects are different, either exploration or the puzzles of ZZZ. Every game has a target audience and if people prefer more open world exploration then of course ZZZ will not be very entertaining to you but they also fail to understand there is the other side to that preference. As always my normal reaction to this crap is if you are not having fun then find something else but be respectful to those that like it

@@blazeyprime4470 I'm guessing you mentioned WuWa because other folk tend to bring it up as something to measure ZZZ against.
I tend to just try and approach each game as it's own experience. I think trying to compare games all the time is just an unfortunate way of guaranteeing some form of disappointment as there'll always be elements one game does better than another :3
Open worlds are interesting, but I'd actually prefer a more concise and repeatable form of exploration like a dungeon. Again, rather like what the Rally commisions provide.
I've actually heard that there's plans to include a lot more rally content going forward and possibly even plans to go back and change the original story missions to rally types too and I'd definitely come back to the game to check it out if that actually happens.
Anyhoo, despite all that and the negativity stuff from other folk, I'm glad you're having fun with ZZZ :D

I am totally in love with the art and the animation of the game. The combat feels simple and complicated at the same time it feels weird, a different take on what HI3 and GS did.
However, there are glaring issues that can easily be seen:
--The 180 pulls is simply a bait, it takes a long time to get them all and at lvl25 as I am im still far away from getting all that 180 pulls.
--The rewards economy is bad, like really bad. Even Genshin had more early game freebies than ZZZ. I'm 50 pulls into Ellen banner and it felt like I'm playing a filler patch like Genshin 1.5 or HSR 1.1 and scraping for every dripple of gems.
--I'm Interknot lvl 25 and has like 12 Battery (Fragile resin). Thats extremely low for a gacha game. GS and HSR had like 40+ when you reach mid game.
--The point behind the TV system is that, we as the mission overseer sees and directs the mission differently than those who are on the field. I had no problems with it but I can easily see why people are mad with this. They need to trim down the ammount of TV time in story mode and add in some way to progress the story from the OnField team PoV (like run around do some puzzle open some doors or some levers?).

I think it serves to immerse the player in the protagonist role of analyzing the hollows from OUTSIDE of the agents perspective; If they were to remove the TV system they'd have to come up with some way to audio-visually convey the proxy's work without damaging the existing combat experience

Disagree to a point, I’d say some people do that, but at the same time, it’s the creators job to keep you invested.
I find dialogue in the game monotone and uninteresting, there’s a lot of dialogue that doesn’t provide anything other then filling up the time.
So there’s the combat left to enjoy, but there isn’t much of it, at all, I’ve “played” for about two hours today and played for about 15 minutes, the rest was watching cutscenes and slideshows that doesn’t interest me much.
So, of course all that is subjective, but I really don’t like this trend of shaming and blaming people for simply disliking a product, maybe it’s just not that good of a product, and maybe you should up your standards.

It's just.. from what I see, you play the main character, TV mode, and the characters you actually pull, the ones you pay for? You only play them for a couple minutes. Instead of entering a dungeon with random rooms and running around with the characters, you just do a minimalistic version of it via the TV mode.
Yeah I would actually enjoy it more if it were set in an open world in a city because that shit is untapped when it comes to anime-styled games (hopefully Project Mugen will be good), but I could've seen myself enjoying it if I could actually... play with the characters I got for most of the game.

I personally like the TVs as a concept, there are moments esp in the story where it sort of adds to the immersion. Like in the Belobog story where you're trying to hunt down the robots, it feels like the characters are involved and you can see them interacting with things. The minimalist top down POV makes said characters feel more vulnerable, since as a Proxy you have a responsibility to navigate them around the Hollow.
The commissions Dana gives you where it turns the board into turn-based version of PvZ or a shmup is a genuinely cool and clever use of the system, and i hope we get see more of that creativity.
What i don't like about the TVs (aside from how unnecessarily long/tedious some stages are, like Bangboo Golden Town) is when it fails at the immersion. Like you can never tell that a set of screens is meant to be an actual physical place until they outright tell you or when you're dropped into combat

I actually like the tv part very much! I think changing between cutscenes, main world, tv minigame and battles is very refreshing and makes it less repetitive. Most of farming is just combat, so I think the tv problem is just for the start of the game where people just want to constantly fight.

I am used to playing games that requires too much grinding. Just recently I tried Wuwa, a game different from what I usually play. I did give it a try for a couple of days and start to enjoy it. Roaming around the map was something I enjoyed. There were several things I could do from killing monsters, to doing puzzles and mini games. The gameplay was challenging as well. I like it and it suits my taste.
Then I heard about Zzz, it would be launching soon. I was excited to try it as well. I was one of those who played it when it was launched. Until now I am still playing it but I just can't enjoy playing it, mainly because of the tv. It's puzzling? Maybe, but for me it's irritating. I guess it's just not my thing. The combat is flashy but not very rewarding. It is very deceptive like you are manually playing it but it feels like you are doing it in auto mode. It's fine but not fun. I have forced myself to enjoy it but I just can't. I'm uninstalling it.

    • @catanaoni
      @catanaoni 11 днів тому +3

@@Kirraii This is a comprehension issue, a very large amount of people don't understand their own points and their own opinions, because they've chosen to be clueless and not think, so it's really hard to reason with them.
But here, in order of appearance:
      1. It gives plenty of currency. Maybe not as much as Wuwa, but I haven't checked the numbers. I know ZZZ gives around 170 limited pulls in 1.0, though.
      2. Almost all gachas are like this, you spend dozens of hours doing easy AF story content before you have the chance to even attempt end-game. Wuwa being a rare exception, since you can do holograms pretty early.
      3. Fanservice = bad..? Is everything you don't like objectively bad and everything you like objectively good? Or do you just think your personal opinion is somehow an argument? (this is a perfect example of what I mean when I say people don't understand their own opinions)
      4. Button mash is every single one of Hoyo's games, all 3d gacha I've played, in fact almost every single game I've played can be boiled down to button mash. Not to mention most gachas play without any user input at all.
Adding onto that, none of these gacha games have even a modicum of difficulty early on. I can wipe my arse with all early Genshin content with c0 Fischl phys dps spamming basic attacks. Wuwa is the same, 1 Encore skill wipes every mob and mini-boss, the bosses take 2 skill uses, I can sit still and spam E until it's all dead. HSR, same, it's a very stat-check-y game, so even if you could do end-game early on, you'd just get wiped.
      5. The TVs are a fair point, since they are different from the usual fetch quest sloggatron 9000 formula, and unfamiliarity is terrifying. The unfortunate part of this argument is that it's always extremely overstated. TVs aren't all that bad, I don't see what's there to dislike about them aside from a couple tiny UI hiccups, and personally find them quite fun. Certainly more fun than walking around between irrelevant NPCs in an open world.
      6. ZZZ is 20GB on mobile which matches up with others pretty well. It's 52? 53? on PC, so if you have a small notebook or your only internet is a limited mobile data plan, fair enough.

All most people do today in gaming is expect combat, whether it's action, turn-based or strategy. No one still wvwn knows what this game's real endgame is because I haven't seen info yet explaining everything that is available after the story mainly because a lot of people are quitting. The biggest thing I will agree with is the marketing. The game was advertised as a combat-focused game and the creator lied to everyone about it bu putting a big focus on story and TVs over longer battles. Now to get into the problems with the complainers where once again, things need to be spelled out for them...
This is a Hoyoverse game...what did you expect?
*Not* every game needs to have difficult and complex combat.
*Not* every game needs to be open-world.
The TV system, although they are a problem, seem to be more so heavily focused into the story mode. There is an exploration mode that focuses on the TV crap too, but it's all optional.
*Wuwa* doesn't need to be compared to ZZZ. Wuwa's combat looks better (I never played it), but it doesn't give everyone a greenlight to immediately crap on ZZZ's combat and compare a game's combat system which is obviously better than this game's.
*Everyone's* expectations were too high for this title which is why they were disappointed in it and quit
I'm still playing through the game so I don't have a full opinion on it yet aside from unlocking the Hollow Zone which is one of the endgame modes.

The game IS actually combat focused and has lots to offer: combos, team-specific mechanics, etc. But you know why it doesn't work? Because the game doesn't punish you for button mashing and playing it wrong until like interknot level 25-30. Hoyo always makes the games very casual at start but I feel like this time they've overdone it. But this game wasn't lying, it's just that the "early game" is too long for many people. I think they should punish players more for mistakes even in early parts but again not overdo it. I really hope they can find some balance between casual start and actually letting players know that combos actually matter A LOT. I heard some people didn't even know there was a combo list in the pause menu. Also it's rather odd that agent tutorials are completely optional.

So in conclusion i think people can like either like or dislike the game but and it’s completely fine if they don’t like it, but they should not go online and present their experience with the game as the truth because they’ve experienced a small portion of the game

You know, ZZZ is a fast paced game with fast paced combat, animations, fast story telling and cutscenes with skip buttons (wow), but the TV is the one holding back the game from an amazing score. You know what what would fit with the games fast pace while removing the TV’s? We can do fast paced platforming. It can either be an open world additional(like taking other routes to the destination) or it can just be linear. Also since the MC’s of the game can’t do combat, we can add another gimmick to them as being fast and jumping, so they would be the ones doing fast and fun platforming instead of the TV sections. Hoyoverse removing the TV section away from the fast paced 3 things and replacing it with some nice and skillfully made platforming could make this game a lot better. And the Hollow Zero could take a similar route of Sonic Frontiers’ 3rd DLC, just make the platforming a bit challenging but don’t spike up the difficulty too much, or our sensitive community can hate it again.

this is getting pathetic, this is why i play phantasy star and stick with that for the most part because all of the hate and drama is some of the most loser and anti social behavior i've seen in a while.
imo phantasy star is WAY better than ANY of these gacha's.

  • @meloveAi

But...I actually like the TV system. It gives me a break from the constant fighting and fighting and fighting. That's just me, but if I wanted a game where it's just combat after combat, get something like Bayonetta or Kingdom Hearts where the story doesn't matter as much. Since it's a gacha game, I wanna see how well they made the characters, and I did get invested in the Cunning Hares in the first chapter like watching a saturday morning show. A group of people finding themselves in deeper trouble than they bargained for, a mysterious AI and unknown parties after it, and a pair of siblings trying to survive on both sides of the law. I wanna see where it goes, and the combat gets in the way of that if there's too much of it.

People who played genshin: First time?
Repetitive gameplay: check (literally you press skill buttons to buff your DPS and then go MONKE).
Progression wall: check (road to IL 30 is a grindfest)
Weak story: because they skipped it. Chapter 1 story is Persona 5, Chapter 2 story is fucking Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann second arc. How can't you love that kind of storytelling?
Artifact RNG, Energy limits, W-Engine sucks, leveling progression sucks: agreed, really. There's too much emphasis in energy consumption once you unlocked the 'farming zones' and most of the time the upgrade doesn't match with the energy wasted. Even the free daily 60 energy refresh doesn't do jack shit because it will only cover 1 try at agent/skill upgrading, BUT:
    - unlike in Genshin you can rerun missions/domains for free.
    - unlike in Genshin/HSR weekly bosses doesn't cost stamina.
    - unlike in Genshin/HSR there is no 'high rolls or 'low rolls' on Drivers which means less RNG overall.
People who complains about the 'TV system' doesn't consider that it is SIMPLIFYING exploration progress. Have you wandered around in Genshin/WuWa with attention deficit syndrome, triggering puzzles and opening chests left and right thus ended up forgetting why are you getting there in first place? I did. With ZZZ's exploration model you cut away those unnecessary bloat with having everything coded as simple blocky dungeon crawler minigame: heck as someone who has grown with Dragon Quest and other dungeon exploration style games like Etrian Odyssey and Digimon World 2 I'd prefer this style of exploration compared to the need to comb every single point of interest in the open world map.
    To sum it with comparison:
Genshin sacrifices fluidity and image quality in order to get open world.
HSR sacrifices realtime battles to achieve model fluidity and detailed image quality/character models.
ZZZ sacrifices exploration to achieve realtime battles with fluidity PLUS detailed environment and character models.

Normal people don't want to "simplify content", if the content is just boring and not good enough to be played, you should just cut it out or automate it. And if you simply cut TV out of the game without giving anything in return, even in this case it would only get better.

Im ganna put an essay in here so im ganna yap about this
Why ZZZ is hated is because the first 1-4 hours of the game is not engaging ...
    Points:
The Tv system (in you're video)
    The Combat :
•They didn't teach you how to play the game they just teach you how to swap characters but those characters that you use are actually have depth to it .
•Monsters are slow to attack and challenge mode is just a bullet sponges enemies .
In conclusion they have a good systrm but those system are hidden . They should be accessible as a Train system or the Trial's teaches you how to use those characters .. as for the enemies i think they need to have a faster attacking enemies and not be on a staggered state so much if you hit them .
Why 1-4 hours of gameplay is important ? :
Because it represent the core of the game and if the core of the game is not engaging enough or not interesting , they will drop it out . Thats why games have demo's those demos shows you the core of the game .. they represent the game so much . If you are saying ohh the end game is actually different , i think the endgames are the decoration of the cake (the springkle on top) if the cake is meh the cake will still be meh

I don't mind the TV system outside of the story-mode. It's only annoying when I want to quickly dash through a tv puzzle but I'm stopped every five seconds by unnecessary character dialogue. Agreed that the end game hollow tv moments are much more enjoyable because there isn't anything break up the flow of it.

the biggest clowns are the ones hating on the TV system yet sucking on WuWa ball when the story quest is LITERALLY the same but worst
quest start > long ass boring story dialogue > 5 min of running to point B > more talking > another 5 min of running to objective > 10+ min wasted on easy ass fight because there are multiple waves of mobs > repeat from step 1

    • @papkinn

Same in Genshin, story in Fontaine boiled down to teleporting between locations to listen to 15min of dialogue that lead to nothing and watch a cutscene, even whole trial thing they introduced was just more boring dialogue it was hardly a gameplay. And yet you see never ending praises towards recent Genshin's story and hate towards ZZZ that for a change doesn't throw hours of exposition at you.
I'm convinced people are making up bad faith criticism because they think ZZZ somehow threatens other Hoyo games even tho it's the same company.

    • @Yasviele
      @Yasviele 11 днів тому +4

@@GarethXL But in WW you can skip the text and it doesn't force you into a fixed path, if it says "go to point B" you can go the other way, climb a mountain and slay a magical tiger, in ZZZ before story quests it literally gives you a warning that before you accept, you have to be prepared for a lengthy sequence that's gonna take 30 min to an hour.
Don't underestimate the freedom of doing what you want, but if you think that even the fights are a wasted time, then neither Wuwa or zzz are for you, not even genshin
