Joe, are you sticking with your RWD or moving across to AWD? The RWD is still very accomplished and in most real world situations is still probably more than capable. Is it so good you would change?

I think it will grow on most people. BMWs for the last 20 years have been too modern then they grow in us all.

These BMW dashboards might be simple compared to the Audi's and especially the Mercedes, but I like it quite a lot. Makes me really feel to be in a cockpit
The Audi and Mercedes makes you spend 24 hours a day just looking for an airconditioner button. So BMW is user-friendly, I like it that way.
Definitely agree. The material quality of the BMW is also next level after comparing it by myself.
bmws are just so good at being a great driving car
Too bad the 23 models have this huge connecting screen like Mercedes…

Crazy so now the RWD is unneccesary when the AWD or Xdrive system of the M3 can provide a better driving experience... When it comes to weight the average daily driver doesn't notice that. It's a better M3 with an MXdrive system 🤷🏽♂️ why don't they just give us the long waiting M3 touring with MX drive system 💥💥💥
Actually the steering feel and the acceleration figures of the xdrive M3 is told to be less exciting compared to the rwd version plus you are not able to use the rwd with dsc on i believe as you can on the RWD version.
couldn't have said it better myself. The xdrive with the ability to turn off the awd is the best of both worlds. They did a great job with the xdrive system making it feel rwd as well (ie no audi quartto feel).
@@berkearall8563 respectfully disagree. The acceleration in the awd is def more brutal and faster. Steering feel is basically the same as well. Good point on the RWD only in dsc tho but with the xdrive you can do awd sport plus mode that lets you have some play in the back and you do have the 10 stage traction control with dsc off for more shenanigans. Think the average to really good drivers would have more fun with the xdrive and you would only notice the only RWD car when you are fishtailing when you don't want to or when in a ditch.
@@js002003 i agree with you on the daily drivers, for the purists like me 😄 i went for the rwd m4 and m3 i own both g80-82 and also driven my friend’s xdrive m4 dozen times it is not for me though. If i’d like to drive an awd car i’d go for the m5, M8 or even RS line-up:)
@@berkearall8563 Agreed that if you're tracking your car, you might have more fun in the RWD g8x... To me though, if you're a purist and love to track you car, I wouldn't be in any g8x - plenty of better pure sports cars for the money like M2 cs or gt4.....And with the ability to turn off the awd, I honestly dont see a need for the rwd comp (non manual) version (maybe bc the rwd has a bit more nannies than the xdrive has when its in 2wd mode?).... final thought: the way they configured the g8x (big hp/big body/heavy car) I think xdrive with 2wd option is the way to go. gives you all the benefits of the rwd version but lets you better utilize the power than the rwd version... Either way tho, the g8x is a great car in any configuration and much better than my old f80 cs in basically every single way.
Edit: Just realized you probably have the manual version in which case I completely understand getting the RWD version. (I completely forgot you can't get the manual in xdrive!)
Would love to see it lined up against an M5 Competition Joe, but keep your foot in, for as long as possible. Been waiting to see it, but nobody has done it yet. The M3 X Drive has got into the 9s, in the quarter mile with a few tweaks, JB4 etc, its a tuners dream, but still love my M5.

Thanks for the good review. SUBBED and LIKED! I will definitely get a M3xDrive. I lost my F80 a few months ago. And from the damage incurred...I shouldnt be here. But I walked away without a scratch. I plan on driving my M# daily. How comfortable are the carbon seats?

Now i have the M3 Competition rwd, i love it. Before i had the G82 and hopefully i will get the touring, it will be a keeper for sue!

What the camera doesn't show is how steep & angled that corkscrew section is. I think it must be a 40ft elevation change from the steepest side into the dip, with an equally steep climb out the other side. It's absolutely one of my favourite Biking Roads.
You should’ve waited Joe. I requested M xDrive for all M models years 🗓 ago. It’s nice to see it finally arrive! Unfortunately I feel the new 3 and 4 Series platform is physically too large and has become way more expensive. It is now in older 5 Series territory, bigger is not always better. Cheers mate, from New York 🗽.

A much safer option, particularly when the cars abilities are far greater than the drivers. Let's be honest, that' most of us.
I was shocked to discover that the xdrive is only about 50kg heavier than the rwd and it does the quarter mile in the low 11's.Stage 1 in an xdrive and this is easily a 10 second car.Grwat vid joe

I always felt that this could be the ultimate M car and this video had me salivating all the way through. I love my 2019 M340i xdrive, but this is on a completely different level. Awesome video Joe and like you, I’d absolutely love one of these. I dare not test drive one as I know I’d end up skinting myself 😂
Have a '21 M340i xDrive, too. Maybe an M3/M3C in the future
V8 is main thing make M5 better than M3/M4 specially in real life every day use. Thanks for mentioning that Joe. Great stuff as always 🥇👍🏎
Yep totally, that V8 is mighty and does out shine the S58 everywhere (aside from economy 😂) 👌
There is also the extra comfort that you get in an M5, more space. But if you need performance, go for M3/M4. If you want also some extra comfort and space (e.g. road trips with 4 people in the car), go for M5.

I own an M340i xdrive and it's TOO FAST for the road. I can only imagine the M3 can only be driven to 5/10 most of the time on the road?
Agreed, exactly same as you, always having to lift off in my m340i. It's a 400bhp car in reality(Dyno it) and for the regular road it's a 4 second 0-60 car. a 3-3.5sec car isnt all that more different except in price and running costs....if you aren't tracking it, an Mlite is just better suited overall than a full M.

I am suprised that BMW has bothered with developing the fake sound of upshift bangs instead of implementing real ones which were CLEARLY heared on the prototypes of M3s and early versions of X3/4 M. Those sounded great.

@@fastanfun I agree with your thoughts. If its going to literally be a daily driver as in commuting to work then Id opt for standard seats. I work from home mostly so mine will have relatively low mileage use and very much used for fun.
Great review joe, 4WD is a necessity in cars now with all the horsepower cars not are putting out, having a back wheel drive only car on a B road with over 500bhp is dangerous unless your a semi-pro driver..
BMW is actively trying to make Alpina obsolete. 😅 When the G81 M3 is out there, Alpina is gonna have a though time selling some B3 Touring Allrads. What an incredible technological marvel. Design wise it's still what the Dutch would call a _plork_ Great honest review Joe. KUTGW!
@Joe Achilles you can't have 2WD mode combined with traction control right? It has to be set to DSC OFF. That's a big CON for me

Hey Joe, Super Review. You refer to the synthetic "DSG fart" from inside the car - I noticed that at 0:19-0:20 there is a "farty" sound from the outside as well. Is it in fact coming from the exhaust?

X drive working well with wheel spin and sliding about in corners 🤣. Im really not sure of the relevance of cars like this these days. Quick and well made but most of the time people don’t drive like that. Im 55, driven all sorts of ridiculous cars in my time but I value my license and these days there are a lot of people with dash cams that will report anyone they see driving in an aggressive manner. Not worth it.

I met you a while ago up at the old TWR site while you where filming, so love the roads you have chosen for the test drives as I can relate to those roads when I worked for TWR and taking out many cars on the same roads :-)
