As a model3 performance owner i dont mind this at all. Hopefully Tesla reacts with a SW upgrade to make their M3P faster 😀. Even then i must say handling wont be near as close. That's why the bimmer cost $40k more.
To 60 the Tesla would win, after that the BMW would pass.

The Tesla m3p is 3.1 seconds 0-60 and 11.7 1/4 mile at 115 mph. The BMW M3 Xdrive is 3.07 seconds 0-60 and 11.1 1/4 mile at 123 mph is the best I've seen.
The m3 xdrive smokes the m3p from a roll, it's not even close btw. Also the model 3 performance is $69k loaded, the m3 Xdrive is $80k to match the model 3 performance options (and beat it with way more and better interior and looks).
The m3 looks significantly better too. The model 3 performance is ugly as hell (the S plaid is super nice looking though). It's the back end m. It's like a hatchback vibe which i don't like. The model S plaid is really good though in terms of speed and looks but The handling is not nearly as good as the M3 but it's also a $160,000 car loaded compared to the M3 which is only $85k loaded.
Love how the Plaid just comes and wrecks everything. Crazy to see M3 pretty much double in price within 15 years but it’s a strong performer. C63 , what do you got ? Thanks Brooks. Love the one offs

@@joaquinc.9913 yeah but it should be compared to an M5 CS, both are big sedans, and both cost around $140k - $150k. The tesla would probably still win (because of the hp difference, 1020 hp vs 635 hp) but it would be a more even matchup.

In other words, for the price of one Plaid you can buy two M3s. Does that look like "almost the same price" to you? That plus, I'm fairly sure the M3 has much better build quality, handles better and is more fun to drive overall.
@@FStan-co8vv Of course, there are other qualities besides straight line performance, but just looking narrowly at purchase price and straight line performance alone... even a Model S Long Range (non-Plaid) at $90k is a bit quicker to 60 and the quarter mile with a higher trap speed than the M3 Comp. And don't forget that even a Model 3 Performance is also quicker to 60 and very similar time & trap speed through the quarter mile. Plus, assuming you start at similar purchase costs, the total cost of ownership is potentially much lower for an electric car, but the magnitude depends on the miles driven over the course of ownership.

For pure speed and instant torque nothing can really live with the Plaid, unless you are looking at real high end HyoerCars.
But for the motoring enthusiast, that M3 is a dream, the diffs on those things make handling second to none.

0-60mph in BMW M3 is 3.18s from Top Gear. 7.39s to 100mph. 3.14s to 60 here. 1/4m in 11.23.
The M3 not only outclasses its own class...it actually thwarts the rivals of its older brother...the M5.
Its slightly quicker to 60mph than the E63s AMG (3.2s), and 0.3s quicker to the quarter mile. Audi RS6 isn't even in the equation. Panemera Turbo S e Hybrid barely 0.14s quicker to 60.
Truly impressed, not even German UA-cam channels have reviewed this car yet. 😲

I used to own a silver and red Nappa leather 2002 M3 SMG with several k miles in 2003. It was the very first M3 equipped with LC or Launch Control. I did a few of it on Capitol Expressway in San Jose CA and that was exhilarating with a bit tire chirping and it was gone in split seconds.
💯Since the rear wheel drive version is already fairly heavy, the X Drive version has to be close to 4000 pounds give or take.
Fairly good numbers considering the weight, the hot temperature, and the altitude. This car is going to be a beast when the tuners get a hold of it.
It only adds about 100lbs
They swap the transmission for one with a built in transfer case and front diff, it doesn't gain that much weight
M3 xDrive is around 3850lbs.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome motor with impressive potential for a stock motor, but I think we should wait a few years to truly say whether it is reliable or not. There’s many ways to look at it and I’m not trying to say it’s unreliable or isn’t any good, but I do want to know what you mean.

@drag times Thanks Brooks for the SOC short. Man you have cemented that this is the right purchase for me. The thing that really bummed me out on my last several Tesla is exactly that! Lower SOC usually equated to REALLY poor performance. I'm stoked and kind of mind blown that 20% SOC still nets 2.3 o-60 and 9.9 Quartermile. Would love to understand what Tesla did to get rid of all that poor performance at lower SOC?

Speeding in an Tesla is like having sex with earplugs in. When u go fast only ur body feels it. When u speed in a real sports car it fills all ur senses. Theres a reason no rappers no athletes drive a tesla. If u can afford better u get better.
Teslas dont feel like ur actually in a luxury sports car. Being in one or seeing one doesn't feel special.
Who wants a quick car that every average joe can get. That doesn't look aggressive and mean with a luxury interior and a head turning engine... u sacrifice all that to accelerate quick once in a blue moon. Real high end luxury sports cars are just as fun to go slow in as fast. Nothing feels special about being inside a tesla. Deep hard truth bra .
Tesla is having historic depreciation across the board. When ur supposedly most expensive car goes down to 60k resale vale used in one year thats worse depreciation then any car company in the world.

Great video, to me the only thing with he’s spec on his M3 Competition, in my opinion was the fact that he didn’t get the carbon fiber bucket seats, and the iDrive professional, and the laser lights option as well 👏🏻👏🏻🇧🇷🇧🇷.

Just the carbon fiber bucket Sears alone are a 35 grand option, if you get it through your order in your car spec, it would have costed you only 3800 dollars, so it is actually a deal when it comes with the car all spec out, makes the car so special, as fas as idrive pro, after racing all day, when you’re tired and all, you could let the car do part of the driving, it’s almost like having a tesla on the road for ya. And the laser lights I am not sure if tou have it, at night it’s like night and day using it…

How fast to 60 without launch, no one used launch on the street.
Car reviewers should always mention this as at the end of the day it’s the real life performance. (At a stoplight for ex.) Unfortunately it’s rare that it’s mentioned
This is my point exactly I ask for this a lot on channels because alv is useless in real life. When at a traffic light you never use LC. Hoe Achilles replied to my request with testing the new BMW M5 CS. Did 0-60 without LC. About half a second slower

Here it goes - red- 1 second orange , then green. (Here people tend to go even on orange )Good luck timing your launch control without looking plain stupid when you don’t know when it turns orange….😂 That’s real life conditions when you want to race a car in those conditions.

I’ve got the M4 competition convertible in Dravit Grey and he’s right, there’s golds and purples behind the grey which sparkle in the sun. I’ve also got the Yas blue seats with yellow highlights. Sounds odd but looks fantastic and screams ‘I’m an M car!’

The G80 is still faster with a femto unlocked ECU and running a custom E60 tune, even with all stock internals. I'm now thinking of selling my F80 and ordering a G80 lmao

They're traction limited; so probably not much better.
@@updlate4756 Nope, tire Traction limit isn’t until 1 second and with wider and wider tires than Plaid which has gone bigger in size, tire traction limit is actually half a second 0-60mph/0-98kmh (0.5 second) by 2100. Also even a Honda Civic will go 0-60mph in 2 seconds in the future. We have a lot to improve on from now
@@delusion2987 that’s wrong, plaid actually loses out most of its power after 100mph. The only fast part about Plaid is the 0-60mph because it’s a electric car with instant torque so of course it would. The quarter mile and top speed is slow compared to modified gas cars. For example, a 1,000hp modified LS Turbo mustang goes 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds but did a quarter mile in 7.1 second. It doesn’t have instant torque but actually beats plaid by 50mph top speed, literally.
Plaid: 0-60mph 1.98 second after roll out subtracted, 2.25 second realistically. Quarter mile in 9.08 second 154mph/247kmh with gutted interior no seats no door panels and female lightweight driver.
1,000hp Mustang: 2.5 seconds after roll out subtracted, 2.8 second realistically, quarter mile in 7.1 second 201mph/323kmh. The gas car is always faster than electric, just like in the early 1900s electric was 4 times more expensive and 4 times slower like for example model t gas car was $800 and top speed 45mph while the electric version was $3,500 and top speed 14mph...

This model here is $76k. The Model 3 Performance starts at $56k. The price difference is fairly large. Maybe a better comparison would have been the $80k LR Model S, which is capable of 10.8s quarter mile runs. Too bad the price was raised to $90k recently. Tesla really needs a sedan priced at $70k.

As a package, price aside the M3 is superior…now we need that Plaid Model 3 damn it! A Model S vs BMW M3 just is not the right comparison no matter how close in price. BMW M3 vs Model 3 Performance is the right comparison! Hence why Brooks mentioned it as well.

@@onezweithree so what would you do if you were in charge? It’s not stupid when you have regulations and restrictions to deal with. It makes perfect sense when you understand the full scenario. Of course I prefer a real intake and exhaust sound, but you can always turn it off and get a downpipe and/or catback as well as full intakes and make it sound the way you want it to.
If you can afford the car, you should be able to do what you want with it. Not that big of a deal in reality
@@onezweithree Have you considered the fact that emission standards are becoming more and more strict, which means less and less external sound? Based on how people cry about the lack of sound from electrics, noise is an important factor for people, so if it doesn't have the sound inside then people are going to be unhappy about their near-silent M3.
@@rustler08 yes. And I still think it’s stupid. It’s like the artificial sounds in the taycan. I just hate this kind of stuff. It’s obviously a personal thing, but I would just hate the fact, that engineering talent and money went into creating fake engine noise.

Hellcat owners are in for a surprise when these get E85, downpipe, headers, ehxaust, tune, etc. They will be so fast! 11.23 on the street is hellcat territory as is, i’m excited to see the full potential of this platform.
With AWD the Beemer should consistently match the Hellcat which will be much more difficult to hookup on the launch.

Hard to say. I feel anytime someone does a tune, all these new cars do not like it and it actually makess their 0-60 times worse. Their launch control systems are calibrated perfectly for the horsepower they are making at stock. As soon as you mess with that mathematical equation it isnt optimal
