Harry is like your dad. Knows everything and explains what you need to know about cars.
I think I'm going to start calling him that. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My dad had an affair with my auntie before running off to join a religious cult
My dad drives a 2003 XJ8, and describes it as "pretty pokey"......
sod it i'm swapping mine (string vest and roll up) for Harry (own farm and big garage)
My dad speaks clearly and I can understand what he says.
What I love about Harry garage is the fact that he is clear succinct and no over the top facial expressions and the ridiculous exclamations of pleasure..
Yes, or thumbnails of him standing next to a car with his arms and legs splayed, grinning like a nitwit. His mature, calm delivery is an absolute tonic. My favourite car channel by a mile.

The new M3 is basically an M5.

Fuck off BMW. Go back to your early 00s lineup. Please.

I love Harry's reviews on any car that he does. No exaggeration or BS just a real informed review. I love how Harry does not just focus on the positives but also he is not frightened to discuss and shortcomings. I too feel the M3's are now as a large as an M5.
And....
He's a long standing respected motoring journalist who has a day job & isn't dependent on 'long termers' loaned from manufacturers to actually be able to get about, or worried about being in-favour like most other youtube 'influencers'!. Definitely a class above.
They’ll highlight the “enormous weight loss of 50kg” in the next iteration...
They've never been light weight but this is lazy engineering. They've just thrown tyre and torque at it.
@@dagnut Where I live, It’s mostly a poser car. Sure it’s fast and sporty but there’s a very specific clientele “buying” (leasing) this car...
@@2mnyshp just different for younger generations, if you are in your early 30s now and earning well you probably came up on fast diesels with lots of gadgets, this is the ultimate expression of that.
The price its self is reflective of the lease market, why would bmw bother with a manual and looking after weight when it will still be the car of choice.
Harry makes a fair point about the m2 Cs but for me this m3 doesn't have enough to seperate it from an m340i
@@dagnut if it were me I'd be straight in a used F80 M3 instead, can't even see the benefits over a £20-30k car from last gen.

Very true. As young children, my sister and I would travel round everywhere in the back of a three door Escort (mk3) and it was perfectly fine. Just enough space for all. People have become accustom to huge interior space now, so cars have grown.
@@Stop..carry-on cars are too small, have you ever been in Moscow? The Land Cruiser L200 is a regular hatchback over there😅
Yep, my same thoughts. It's such a heavy and large car now, that it seems more like a M5. It makes you appreciate the outgoing M2C/CS.

The release of this car has done wonders for Alfa Romeo, it's re-ignited so much interest in the Giulia QV.
On point comment Paz!!
As a German from Munich, driving and loving an old BMW, I support everyone that buys the Giulia QV over this abomination. The pennycounters in HQ need to be shown that they'd better let the engineers decide on what cars they'd like to build, at least for the M-models.
to each their own but the giulia's front bonnet is hideous
The word you’re searching for is “overstyled”.
The word is "ugly."
Ugly?
That snout works better on the M3/4 than the vanilla 4 series, it matches the rest of the car's styling rather than being a mad front end on an otherwise bland car. It elevates it from hideous abomination, to ugly but purposeful. The botched rear arches, presumably because they didn't want to make bespoke M3 rear door skins, in excusable.

As much as I don’t like the fussy styling and that grille, one positive is that bmw at least kept the straight 6 in the new M3, what with rivals like the new C63 coming as a 4 cylinder hybrid
Yep! 4cyl hybrid and weighs over 4400lbs (2200+kg). I thought this was disappointing but im definitely warming up to it.
A 4 cylinder hybrid? The C63? Yukkk!!!

Aye, the one and only positive in this ugly mess.
From America here.....this guy is great. I like the Brit style of reviewing. Can’t put my finger on it.
I saw one a few days ago in Salzburg, yellow, with a Munich reg..
First thing: it is really a big car. Second: it is ugly. The kidney grill is not the worst, there are too many lines - it looks like a cheap tuning on an expensive car.
The sound is really beautiful, not too loud, a good voice indeed.
What I don't understand... So many carbon parts to save wight - and then 1.7 tons? Well, electric seats and a motorized bootlid will add a bit, but why is this thing so heavy? BMW should walk into their museum and study, what the meaning of an M3 is....
Thanks for this video - as always, many information. Well done!
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹!
Now watch them ditch the electrics and trim and offer Lightweight models for more money.
Carbon parts isnt to save weight, they are there because people think they look cool. They probably add weight, all told.
Its heavy beacuse its a big car.
A face only a mother could love
If the mother is blind.
it looks a little bit Alfa to me
Just get over it, people DO actually like it (and no, not only the Chinese)... BMW 4 series sales have DOUBLED in Northern America with the introduction of the new 4, while peolple were saying that this is never going to sell, and there are lots of preorders on the M3/M4 too.
Even the most hated BMW iX is breaking pre-order records for example in Norway, so apart from triggered purists, there are people in this world who either do not care or are open to change.
And hey, even me as a classic car enthusiast, I am open to change too. I like it and I think it really suits an M3 perfectly. I like the old cars, but I am definitely not against new things.
@@tobias_k01 Nope, it’s still a dumpster fire.
Looks better in black, my main problem is that it’s not the same as the normal 3 series and the whole point of the M3 is that it’s a sleeper and looks mostly like a normal car
It keeps getting bigger and heavier. In a few years, it will be an SUV.
the M3 Comp with the AWD is basically a lowered X3 sedan
i think BMW is realizing that most people who put money down for shit like this will end up with an X3/4 M anyways
Ever heard of the eclipse cross?
One thing I like about your reviews? Your never insulting. You point out the things you disagree with, and still manage to maintain a professional demeanor. Well done!
Seriously Annoying that manufacturers make cars bigger and pop them up into the next size range...!
It makes no sense imho
Yes, almost everyone should take a look at what Mazda is doing.
It’s because people tend to keep buying the same model of car year after year rather than move up, so the manufacturers effectively move them up and then introduce another smaller/cheaper model at the bottom of the range.
Yeah I hate how cars are getting bigger and heavier. Taking up more real estate and more resources. It seems counter intuitive (stupid?) when trying to keep CO² emissions down and the planet groans as it registers another birth.
it's horrible
But credit too them for creating the M2 sub sized car to fill where the M3 used to be.
Best looking Bmw ever made by a mile, and best seats ever fitted to a road car
It’s absolutely fucking hideous
That front end 🤦🏾♂️ come back Chris Bangle, all is forgiven - EDIT: and if you are paying 6k for the carbon pack then youre as mad as a box of frogs
Bangle’s cars were only slightly less hideous so that would not be much of an improvement. They should just bring in any car designer from any car company, or even some random person walking on the street as long their name is not Bangle or Dukec.
The big UK reg plate does its best to cover those bloated kidneys, it’ll look worse in other countries with the plate to the side.
It’s hideous , who signed it off

Can we get Harry's Garage to 1 million Subs!!! The finest car reviews on youtube. This is Best review of the G80 M3 Comp thus far.
Why? What's your concern about his subscriptions?
"We" can't, because I'm guessing you're already subscribed. So I presume you mean can YOU add half a million subs? Don't hold your breath.
The G80 is three inches longer than an E34 M5 (4794mm/4720mm), seven inches wider (1903mm/1720mm) and 1.6 inches taller (1433mm/1392mm). It weighs almost exactly the same as an E34 M5 (within 15kg).
I remember driving an E34 twenty five years ago or so and thinking it was pretty big car at the time.
I read this week that the next C63 AMG will have a 4 cylinder hybrid instead of a V8 🤦🏾♂️ The new M3's grille is controversial, but at least it still has a somewhat characterful engine in it
It's the M139 from the 45 amgs, it's an absolutely incredible engine, it will be a great fit for that car. And there will still be a V8 C-class, it's just called a C73 AMG.
@@gambiting 4 pots are great engines. Theyve just got no business being in a C63. Havent seen anything about a C73 though, only that the bigger S Class and GT 4 door Coupe will keep the V8 but with hybrid tech 🤷🏾♂️

This is getting bananas
Just when one thinks that BMW design can not get worse they do something like this. It is like they want owners to be excusing their looks as part of the price of ownership.
It’s called arrogance. BMW does not care about their base, appealing to the masses is all that matters 💰💰💰
@@chop3625 To the masses? You think masses of people can purchase an M3? The majority don't approve of the change further confusing me when it comes to your "appeal to the masses" comment. I'm not sure it means what you think it means. They are appealing to (in their minds) the people that can actually afford the car, they don't car what the masses think as most people cannot afford the vehicle and therefore their opinion doesn't actually matter to BMW.
Yeah, it's a nice uhh... colour. Jag still looking beautiful though!
It helps to have a great designer. In my mind, the three best designers of the last 10 -15 years are Ian Callum at Jaguar, Ed Welburn at GM, and Gerry McGovern at Land Rover. Sadly, Callum and Welburn have retired.
@@msalzberg4962 Could not agree more! There's been a real lack of beautiful cars on our roads in the past 10-15 years.
@@thescotsmantechnologyrevie2138 The Jag surely can't be called beautiful? It's a fantastic car and I'd love to own one (in my dreams will have to do), but it looks like a chavved up XE Diesel motorway hack. The shape was dull to start with, the P8 in this colour with the gold wheels and aero addenda looks awful. At least the tacky Jaguar decals aren't present, though. The M3 is a far more imposing and modern-looking thing, to these eyes at least.
Henry Catchpole, Harry, Harris. All we need.
Body work reminds of a fussy 80's CRT TV, with the screen framed in a frame in a frame with anther frame around that encased in a big shell. Modern OLEDs have a screen with a minimal-barely- there-bezel.

86K? Get a base 911 for that, I know what I’d prefer to rock around in. Nevertheless great review by Harry, styling has grown on me - BMW daring to be a bit different when a lot of cars seem to be clones of each other.
With the M3 being a practical four door saloon I don’t think the 911 is really a suitable alternative for most..
However why anyone would buy say an M4 over a 911 is beyond me
Get a used 997.2 GTS and you'd be better off.
On the subject of weight, I can't help thinking electric boot opening, electric seats etc are all just a setup for the later 'CS' version that has over-hyped weight savings 😋
And you will have to pay more for it hahaha
Yes, M3 is the new M5, M5 is now M7 and M2 took the M3's place
And I'm pretty sure BMW didn't save much weight with this gen, so the CS and other special models would have more room for weightloss
For sure there will be a CSL version in a year or 2.

Great video and great car. The analogy of it being placed like the m5 used to be is spot on, and I think is a really good positioning as £110k for an m5 comp is too much but although £80k for an m3 comp is high, it is attainable with pcp deals now. Thanks again.
Sunday evening and Harry's Garage. Good.
Great video. The M3 looks massive! Grill is ok for me, but would prefer it smaller so the number plate can sit below it. Still feel Harry would have been the better choice to front Top Gear.
Hope to see a Renault 5 Turbo on the channel some day!
Last but not least.
In fact, this is my favourite review of the new M3 so far.
The comparison with the styling of the P8 was very telling.
650Nm, Harry please could you do a video to illustrate how performance has developed over time? How the 911’s have got faster/heavier or this M3 against Countach and McLaren F1? Thank you.
2:34 Now this is a person who knows their style. Spot on.
I just love German design so so much. Beautiful. Haterz can shove their jealous bitter, outdated selves and stick to fiddling with their Gold-plated E92s in Gran Turismo on their PS5s!
BMW is no longer a brand I care about. I still watch this to see where it all went from the once perfect M3.
"On the flipside it's gained a bit of weight like all of us during lockdown"
Me: Looks at my larger them normal belly.. Yep you're spot on about that!
The ZF 8HP is an amazing gearbox.
Plus, the gearbox is super reliable and very low maintenance. You only need to change the fluids after 100000 KM. Compared to 50000 KM for DSG gearbox.
This is why I subscribe. While other UA-camrs are raving about these “fantastic” seats, Harry is the first person I’ve seen who gives a no nonsense, well supported opinion about the lack of practicality with these seats. Oh well...guess BMW is doing it for the love of money🤷🏾♂️
" _Harry is the first person I’ve seen who gives a no nonsense, well supported opinion about the lack of practicality with these seats_ ".
Ironically, he _doesn't_ say that they lack practicality!
@@nickturner2813 ...he mentioned that while comfortable, that the seat is cumbersome to get into, not to mention that it’s electric, which takes away from its practically for lighter weight and a more “sport” ethos. I stand behind what I posted.
I'm going to say it. I like the look of this M3, especially in this colour.
Nice one H. I have to say I was waiting for your review of the new M Car... because it would be "sensible" and "balanced" and there's no hint of anyone "trying to be Clarkson" 🙄So .... Had my M4 since 19th March and I absolutely love it. Coming from the F80 series M4, I was slightly concerned it wouldn't do it for me like my 2017 version did for the last 4 years, however, 5 minutes into owning it, and comparing side by side, it does indeed make the F80 series look old hat . So from being one of those UA-camrs who initially moaned about "what have they done" I tip my hat to the designers and devs at BMW M in creating such a complete car, designed to do what it should do with lot's more included. You don't feel like you're driving a supercar" until you reach the areas around 5000rpm with sport shift settings, so you can tootle around comfortably and look reasonable inconspicuous when pulling into a client's car park I guess. Saying that, a few people enjoy taking photo's but I think it's simply due to a new model release. Thanks for the vid - be interesting to see what your thoughts are on the new M4 too. Drive safe.
Great review as always Harry.
Plus extra marks for the slick and very precise editing...camera shot cuts away just in time as it hits 60 each time 😉😂
The M3 xdrive is probably THE best all around car on sale today.
relatively affordable and economical (not having a V8), ride is good and seats 5 comfortably.
RS4 is old, C63s is too over the top. It is just nothing to challenge it .
Having had a Bimmer with the dual clutch transmission and having driven one with the ZF 8 speed I would say that I much prefer the ZF8 speed for normal road use.
Love the grill and the other details. The grill is like Bangle's time. People disliked Bangle's designs but sales went up. They also need extra cooling for a twin turbo of that heft, so it is a functional solution too.
It’s like they saw the Type R styling and said “oh yes, we’ll have a bit of that!”
At least with the Type R you get the impression its meant to be silly, this just looks so over designed that one day you could wake up and find two bmw designer fighting over it as they restyle it on your drive.
Absolutely ridiculous, in the flesh it looks very good not like a toy car
“Why does it have an electric boot?”
Because those electric motors break, and then BMW can charge an arm and a leg for a replacement. 😡
I owned a ‘92 535i manual transmission in a deep blue colour with cream coloured leather interior. Still one of my favourite BMW’s from a looks perspective. Lots of problems with little things like fog lights that cracked every time they got wet when they were turned on. Didn’t matter if it was in the rain or just going through a car wash, they would crack EVERY time. Had BMW replace them many, many times for free because they came with a one year warranty. I told the service manager that they were obviously engineered wrong! But he would not admit it. Also the little lights in the window switches seemed to burn out on a regular basis. I must have replaced at least half of them while I owned the car. On the good side it was a beautiful car to my eye and it was such a pleasure to drive. It managed to handle like a sports car and ride like a luxury car without any electronic trickery, just excellent chassis engineering. My next car was a Mercedes C36 AMG which was much faster and far more reliable than the BMW, but rode like a dump truck with an empty load. The only thing that saved it from rattling itself to pieces was replacing the AMG shocks with C class Sport shocks. The ride was still firmer than the BMW but light years better than it was with the AMG shocks. I always thought that if BMW and Mercedes built a car together, combining the best of each brand, it could be close to perfect. That notion came to an end when Mercedes gave over the reigns of the company to the Marketing department and the bean counters and quality went out the window.
@@barryboyd7973 Lexus is the only brand who cares about the consumer

Great review as usual. But what on earth has happened to car prices?! Not just the M3, but generally....they are frankly ludicrous...incomprehensible.
I get the impression it's pretty soft all round for an M product. Seems more like a very expensive 340i+. Leaves headroom for another hardcore version I guess.
OK guys, former e39 M5 owner here and I’m going to go out on a limb: I actually like the new grill. And I think this M3 is simply fabulous. Pricey, but soooo good. I’ll have one in white, with the carbon package.
It's growing on me, but it would have to be in a dark colour. Tanzanite blue with shadowline and carbon pack looks great.
I remember when BMW M cars were subtle, now they're crass, a little like the S and RS Audi's, most that I see seem to be driven by people selling little packets on street corners , fashion changes, style remains, I'll have a Lachs silver E28 M5 please, they can keep the new ones.
I used to have one of those. Get the E39, much better car.
Best review I've watched of this model. Almost looks appealing as a future purchase. Nice work Harry!
At first people say that Alfa Romeo Quadrofoglio copied the BMW... but now why BMW copied the Alfa? 😂
When the Mustang GT came to UK shores in 2015, it was said to be too big for British roads, too heavy and difficult to park. Well, this car is longer, taller, only 12mm narrower and 20Kg heavier than the 2015 Mustang GT.. Oh yeah, when first available, the GT was just over a third of the price of this M3 today too.
The only opinion that really counts on UA-cam......thanks Harry
👍
Actually, me always hating the previous M's being all hideous, lizard-like and outdated: this is actually a very bad thing. I now really want an M-car. And that spells massive trouble for my Bank. So, maybe it _is_ a very baaad car lol!
The more of Harry’s videos I watch the more I think that Harry’s P7 & P8 are the match of all these cars and actually are the only two cars you need in your garage….. remembering of course that ‘need’ and ‘want’ are two different things 😆…. Keep the videos coming Harry!
Harry’s multitasking with 2 watches 🙂
Panerai on the left and Apple on the right.
Apple cos Harry's "down with the youffs", Mechanical/Automatic on the left because there's beauty in self contained watches (except modern Rolexs which mark you out as a Brand Submissive)
I noticed that too
My late father wore two watches when his dementia progressed.
2 Watches for each M setting
I got a boss with Apple 🍎 on each wrist 🤦♂️
I wear nothing on both. 👍
As ever a great review. Here in Germany the M3 line up starts at 82,5k€ with the 6-speed manual(!) transmission. A step up the M ladder you get the all new M5 CS with 635 hp and when you want one, hurry up a bit ,because it will be available only one year on from now. And ,by the way , before you order, be sure to find a massive 180,6k€ under your pillow. But this car will reward you with the ultimate "Freude am Fahren".
I've had BMWs for ages. Currently have E92 and E46 M3s, which I really like. Had no interest in the F80, and this car is the final nail in the coffin for me. Seems abundantly clear that BMW knows its market too well and is now building cars for those who care more about image than anything else. Absolutely ghastly.
Agreed hideous. Last decent 3 series was the e90
Great review Harry....well balanced and thoughtful comments as always...had an issue with that rear door wheel arch area too..it almost seems like the developers were given a very strict timeline to finish the design and didn’t have time to smoothen that out or the budget allocation for the car was burgeoning and a stop was called before they could get to it!!!😅
I agree, Victor. Not a highlight of the car's styling....
I quite like how it looks
Harry, always a joy watching your videos. Did you have to get approval from BMW before you publish this video? Has it ever been the case that a manufacturer did ask you to review the video/review before you upload?
Never happened with any manufacturer in the 26 years I've being doing car reviews
@@harrysgarage thank you for replying Harry - much appreciated.
150kg increase over last generation is unacceptable.
Frank comments appreciated plus extra spin info as well!
As the owner of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio I am petitioning BMW designers to change the Rodent Teeth on the front of the new M 3 / M 4 as they are constantly in my rear view mirror and are always making me NASEOUS !! They replied that the enlargement of the kidney grille was necessary in an attempt to provide easier under hood access for mechanics as they will be there often.....UGH.....
My 2022 has never been to the shop, so that’s a ridiculous overstatement. Jeez compete the opinions on the internet. No facts, just opinions.
@@donniesesnie4101 Do you agree that it is Fugly and drives like a Camry ?
@@jamesterakazis6624 front end is ugly but it definitely doesn’t drive like a Camry. I have the x drive too; I’d say it’s pretty bad ass🤷🏻♂️
@@donniesesnie4101 Steering is NOTORIOUSLY VAGUE in all new BMW's. Alfa threw the Germans a HUGE middle finger in 2017 and BMW still can't match the Giulia Quad dawg.....Elegant, sublime, and fastest....still.
@@jamesterakazis6624 I doubt it’s faster than my 2022 drive M3 and the steering is just fine. You should go find another site to bash cars on cuz it isn’t working. I own this car. I believe I know more than what’s “notorious”.
No longer an M3 and no longer desirable to its former fanbase. The first and last video of this monstrosity that I care to subject myself to, excellent review Harry.
the grille is indeed looking less jarring the more I see it, but compared to virtually all previous BMWs, it's still a crime against art, decency, and probably, humanity too.
The thing about Harry is he’ll tell you it sucks if it really sucks, but if it really doesn’t suck, he’ll make sure you know it doesn’t. All whilst remaining properly factual and what we want to hear!
The best
