I’m so glad that this movie is getting the recognition it deserves and the fact that it’s by one of my favorite UA-camrs makes it even better. My friend and I discovered this movie back in 2018 and I’ve watched it at least 20+ times since then. It’s absolutely hilarious and it never gets old and I’ll never be bored watching it. Also this is random but my dogs name is Otis lmfao.
I knew the movie was good when it first came out. When it first came out it got a lot of unnecessary hate only because it was released after a bunch of bad spoof movies so people would try to group them all together. The bandwagon hate against Superhero Movie back in 2008 was I believe half of them didn't even see the movie and the other half did see it but want to say it's bad just to fit in. When the movie first came out I chose not to follow the crowd and have my own opinion. I had a feeling the hate against it is bogus since it doesn't involve those 2 horrible writers and directors, and when i saw it in a theater I realized I was right and the movie was actually good.
I say it before and will say it again: there needs to be a SUPERHERO REBOOT MOVIE, in wich a running joke is teasing but never delivering a Drake Bell cameo, and also halfway throught the movie they stop to announce to the character that Disney just bought it, you see the film crew being replaced for another one and a bunch of random characters from other franchises (Star Wars, the Muppets, Jack Sparrow, whatever) arrive meanwhile the Dragonfly is confused and tries to convince executives to let him at least finnish the movie before integrate it to a Cinematic Universe. I also had a joke about The Boys but its commentary was more on the comicbook that on the tv show so it may not work
This isn’t a movie, but the Harley Quinn show captures the ridiculousness of super hero stories in a very creative and enjoyable manner. It’s also fucking hilarious.
That interview with Craig and what he said about comedy writers being able to pull off the shift to drama is surprisingly spot on, I could NOT believe that Todd Phillips was a writer and director for Joker with such a singular vision, the man that made The Hangover trilogy and yet pulled it off so well (in my opinion, I know the movie becomes more divisive with time)
The Wayans brothers wrote “Scary Movie”. The only reason Jason Friedberg has his name attached is because Dimension purchased a Scream parody treatment he was working on, just so they didn’t have any competition at the box office (none of his ideas made it to screen).
I loved this movie so much as a teenager and I still love it now! It certainly deserves more appreciation and attention. I have actually heard that Drake Bell is in recovery now and I wish him all the best. He may have a sketchy story but I do still respect him. YES! This movie is a comedy masterpiece, I remember people hating it at the time but I still love It to this day. Never expected you would cover it tbh.
This film has genuine funny moments. I vividly remember the scene, where the dragonfly tires to make a costume. When he finally settle on his green design and puts it on, he realizes that he can’t breathe in it and can’t see, almost suffocating in the process. This could have just been a funny gag, but in the rest of the movie, he does run around in that costume, just with some hastily cut holes in it. In a way, this scene does have a good narrative line and it works.
It was a disservice to call it ",,,, Movie" at the time when the cookie cutter (bad) "spoofs" at the time were all doing that. It is important to note that David Zucker, one of the people responsible for Airplane!, Top Secret, Hot Shots, and The Naked Gun, was a producer on this movie and you see the difference in how it works compared to the other spoofs of the time. One peculiarity of the Zucker/ Abrahams movies, that they admittedly learned with Top Secret! back in the early 80's, is that a good spoof needs to be about something- have a story. Almost all the spoof movies of the 2000's were just a collection of vignettes and 'jokes' they wanted to hit, with some excuse for a plot to merely connect one scene with the next so they could move on to the next pop culture reference. The Zucker bros. built their jokes on top of a plot that could work on its own. Airplane! was a literal remake of Zero Hour but it is a perfect example of this technique: they took a movie that wasn't a comedy, kept the structure and bits, and built the humor on top having the actors play it straight as if they were doing the serious version of the movie. They did the same with Hot Shots, Naked Gun, etc: they may have had some clearly comedic/exaggerated moments but take the spoof out and you end up with movies that, while not grown breaking, work perfectly fine in their intended genre. Superhero Movie works the same way: take the spoof comedy elements out and there is a serviceable superhero film not unlike the Spiderman (which is the basis for the film, of course). Actors are playing like this is the character's reality unlike the other spoofs at the time where everyone was winking at the camera to see if the audience got the joke or pop culture reference. It is not the best spoof but it is much better than it gets credit for, and certainly miles above the "Epic/Disaster/etc Movie" at the time.
Zucker also directed Scary Movie 3 and 4 and weren't written by either seltzer or friedberg. And the first two scary movies were done by the wayans. None of these movies deserve to be lumped in with the rest of the "movie" movies.

this movie is so underrated as one of the mid 2000's parody movies, i know they were all mostly disaster movie, date movie, and epic movie, but this one is still funny to me, esspecially the dinner and kitchen scenes
I’m so glad this movie’s getting the recognition it deserves, I always maintained that Superhero Movie was way better than the other ‘Movie’ movies (other than Scary Movie 3 which is a stone cold classic).
I remember thinking that, at its heart, it still had a good 'moral' more or less: The main character couldn't gain his last power, flight, until he also gained confidence in himself, something he was lacking in his 'civillian' identity.

You make a really good argument but the fact that they gave it the "Scary Movie" poster style hurt its chances at being somewhat marketable as at that point everyone had given up on that franchise and even the spoof movie genre.
My idea is that we call the new movie "Superhero Movie Sequel" and have it be a parody of Spider-man: Homecoming. Except Iron Man is replaced with the original Dragonfly and Peter Parker is replaced with the new Dragonfly or a hero who's based on someone else.

All good points. What also makes it great is the fact that it followed the Naked Gun and Airplane formula of spoof movies: always do the funny bits as serious as possible
Friedberg and Seltzer actually had almost nothing to do with the first 4 Scary Movie films. Their name only appears as screenwriters on the first film due to some bullshit studio legal reason. It’s obvious as well as the first 4 Scary Movie films and Superhero Movie had actual jokes that landed whereas the Friedberg/Seltzer films were just references. You could probably argue that those two hacks are who killed the parody genre

You just gave me inspiration to write a modern day spoof superhero film! 😅 Awesome video though Browntable, this movie was definitely ahead of its time.
Absolutely loved this video! It’s one of my all time favourite spoof films… but my favourite is *”Not Another Teen Movie”* which you totally should make a video on. It’s not just good spoof film but a genuinely good film too… ☺️
I only know that movie because Marilyn Manson did a cover of tainted love for it
i’m so happy somebody else saw this movie growing up
this movie is so underrated as one of the mid 2000's parody movies, i know they were all mostly disaster movie, date movie, and epic movie, but this one is still funny to me, esspecially the dinner and kitchen scenes
The fact that drake bell used to be the voice actor of the guy he’s parodying is super meta
This is going to be interesting!
Finally a review that doesn't just talk shit about the movie!
*Hourglass makes a time pun*
Browntable: "Superhero Movie was ahead of it's time"
Was... was that on purpose?
Who knows?
ANOTHER BROWNTABLE BANGER??! ALREADY???
I’m so glad this movie’s getting the recognition it deserves, I always maintained that Superhero Movie was way better than the other ‘Movie’ movies (other than Scary Movie 3 which is a stone cold classic).
I remember thinking that, at its heart, it still had a good 'moral' more or less: The main character couldn't gain his last power, flight, until he also gained confidence in himself, something he was lacking in his 'civillian' identity.
I love this movie and the theme song! Such a shame what Drake Bell did.
Will be referring to him rightfully as Jared from now on
What did he do ?
@@geekyvors2837 Pled guilty for child endangerment over something that happened in 2017.
@@geekyvors2837 He sent nasty texts to a 15 year old girl when he was 32. Nothing really serious happened, so he got a year in jail, but still disgusting.
I remember watching this as a kid and enjoying it too
I’m glad someone finally Acknowledged it’s existence
Thanks brown table
I remember watching this on DVD with my dad and sister who just happened to pop it. Fun times
“Make fun of the superhero shows that analyze superhero shows.” Dude, I didn’t know I needed this until now. That’s fucking amazing
*Reads title*
Me: “I thought I was the only one!?”
They should make a reboot movie called the amazing Dragonfly with Josh peck as the star.
Glass in my eye....GLASS IN MY AAAAIYE.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE so much as a kid HAHA
Ayy ghost watchu doin here?
Never thought I'd be watching an analysis on the superhero movie. Thank you
Lol, I was just fvcking yesterday watching a recopilation of funniest scenes of this movie. What a coincidence!
I showed my dad some of the scenes from this movie, and he cried laughing. This movie will never get old.
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if Drake Bell reprises his role as Dragon Fly in Spider-Man No Way Home. 🕷
I don't think his career is going anywhere since he pled guilty for spreading information endangering and disseminating kids.
Least we still have Josh Peck!
I still find it funny Drake later voiced Peter Parker in one of the Spider-Man cartoon in later years.
Some Brazilian dudes actually inserted the dub of this movie into the dinner scene of Spider-Man 1. Seeing Willem Dafoe saying "Excuse me, I've shit myself" is the best thing ever.
I actually have a soft spot for this movie. Its much better than the Friedberg/Seltzer stuff.
I’ve been getting Superhero movie clips blasted in my recommended and I’m not complaining
Drake Bell was cleared of all charges you’re good now bro. Turns out he was falsely accused
I haven't heard about this. Any evidence?
@@asillariya601 he explains it all in Instagram video
The main characters actor plays ultimate Spider-Man
It's like foreshadowing :)
You make a really good argument but the fact that they gave it the "Scary Movie" poster style hurt its chances at being somewhat marketable as at that point everyone had given up on that franchise and even the spoof movie genre.
I'm so glad there's finally a video on this movie
stephen hawking was so funny in this movie and the outro of this video LOOL
I’m glad someone is talking about this movie it’s one of my favorites
My idea is that we call the new movie "Superhero Movie Sequel" and have it be a parody of Spider-man: Homecoming. Except Iron Man is replaced with the original Dragonfly and Peter Parker is replaced with the new Dragonfly or a hero who's based on someone else.
Kinda hard now with what drake did
@@guadalupegabriel8781 Honesty we just need to get a new actor and then either play the new casting off as a joke or not acknowledge like they did in Iron Man 2.
@@TeralyzedKahen well that is true they could ignore it and it could just be that he got older and know looks different or afted the end of the movie we see him get hit by a helicopter so they could say thats why he looks different or just say straight up like you know why im not the same
@@TeralyzedKahen they should get a new actor but play it off as normal but only the protagonist notices
@@peenoice5176 That would be a great opportunity to also poke at the fact dragon fly & the aunt & uncle are very young than their original counterparts, like spider mans incarnation.
Bro, I actually love you for doing this. Me and a close friend of mine always talk about this film and how underrated it is along with how no one talks about it. Well now thankfully, someone is!! Not at the best time though 😂😂😂
If only this movie was animated, animation can do more than live action., the movie is funny but imagine if it was animated.
Thank you so much for giving this underrated film some appreciation
Finally, somebody who sees what an underrated gem this movie
All good points. What also makes it great is the fact that it followed the Naked Gun and Airplane formula of spoof movies: always do the funny bits as serious as possible
Friedberg and Seltzer actually had almost nothing to do with the first 4 Scary Movie films. Their name only appears as screenwriters on the first film due to some bullshit studio legal reason. It’s obvious as well as the first 4 Scary Movie films and Superhero Movie had actual jokes that landed whereas the Friedberg/Seltzer films were just references. You could probably argue that those two hacks are who killed the parody genre
Ive never watched a movie review that made me want to actually watch the movie more than this one.
Theres nothing more i love than passion and appreciation for things. And as a superhero fan myself, im surprised i never seen this!
Great video!
The only recent parody movie I could actually tolerate.
The line We have kids who can walk through walls and kids who think they can walk through walls always gets me
I honestly thought this movie was just a fever dream that I had
Honestly, the video was great. As soon as it was over, I was like “Why is it so short.” I’m subbed to so many people that it doesn’t matter. But you earned my sub and I’ll definitely check out some more of your vids. This was fantastic.
Too bad Drake Bell couldn't date someone ahead of his time 😞
Thanks to this video I rewatched this absolute classic from my childhood
Better than Love and Thunder...
I actually grew up with this film and it was my favorite for a while
I like Drake Bell as the main actor, despite his more recent past.
Remember watching this as a kid and liked it but i recently rewatched it last month and its so great. I would love a new one
