Perfect video! Perfect communication, perfect balance between length and topic resolution. If all YT videos were made as yours.. it’d be a better world ❤ Thanks
Nice video, thank you. One more question: is clear image zoom is compartible with staibilization in Catalyst Browse? Personally, i use Gyroflow instead, just because CB has no version for Linux. In Gyroflow videos made with clear image zoom come out very shaky. This is the only exception which makes Gyroflow a liitle imperfect.
Good morning Constantine, a luxury to communicate with you again; here you have an error, what you call "metadata" is actually a file that is recorded to the video and that contains all the information of the "accelerometer" of the camera, which is what "Catalist Browse" interprets when stabilizing the image in post production. The file that the camera attaches to the video is not recorded (and therefore you will not be able to stabilize the video in Catalist Browse) when the stabilizer of the camera or the lens is active, since it would be double "work", one, stabilize while you film, and another, recording not only the information from the accelerometer but also the corrections made by the camera to stabilize in real time... which would affect the size of the information and its transfer to the memory card, which which in turn, would overheat the camera a lot. I'm even surprised that it attaches the accelerometer file when it's in "standard" mode, since it would have to record the lens information as well. And as for the frames per second, the accelerometer file is only active in 4K (and if the stabilizer is inactive). That's why when you switch to S&Q modes, when 4K automatically turns off and you go to FHD, the accelerometer is disabled and you can't stabilize the video in Catalist Browse. What I always say, I love your videos... a big hug from Córdoba, Argentina.
Thanks for you comment, it's always a joy to read your comment. You made it much clearer for me. I don't think there's a conflict between yours and mine because as I mentioned in the video, there's no metadata in standard mode.
Thank you for the information. I also conducted the same test and confirmed your results. However, I discovered that it is dependent on the lens. With an a6700 camera and an 18-135 old lens, there is indeed no stabilization metadata in standard mode. There is stabilization metadata in both active mode and no stabilization mode. However, with an a6700 and a new 11mm F1.4 lens, all three modes have stabilization metadata.
If you use both active steadyshot and catalyst browse, sometime it works better, but sometimes it gets worse; either way, the video gets cropped twice, so probably choose one of them instead of using both.
seems like this issue with standard stabilization not having oss is fixed for newer lenses and camera. I have seen other videos which shows catalyst browse with oss on sony zv e10. Can u check whether u have updated ur firmware and maybe retest it. I think this issue is fixed
The issue I have is that is not a feature that can be utilized by Linux/Davinci editing setups. I don't want to run Mac or Windows to use Catalyst Browse. They should have made this a feature usable via a web app ... there are a lot of "conversion" software apps on the web that aren't limited by your O/S. For me, Catalyst Browse isn't a feature and I wouldn't base a camera purchase on it being included. Cheers.
Much thank you for this info, or else I'll be still wondering why sometimes i can stabilise sometimes not. But again not sure how can still make sony zve 10 videos less shaky when Im shooting handheld other than use gimbal. Do you know if using a handheld tripod like Joby or metal cage can help stabilise more?
Thanks for this video, it is really helpful. But I think using active stabilization and catalyst together is not a good option, you have to use one of them even though you can have the metadata! I have tried that couple of times and a weird Jelow box appears when I have the active stab on and then stabilized again in the catalyst. What I m doing right now is to use catalyst alone with off-stab if I m shooting myself as a vlog to have a wider field of video. While the active stab for the B rolls.
Sometimes it doesn't work well either when I use both active stabilization and catalyst browse, and sometimes it works. I guess it depends on how things move in the video. Thanks for your feedback. I think your method makes more sense.
Thanks I was looking for this information everywhere since I was wondering what I get when I buy one of the more expensive OSS lenses. But it looks like I can't use the benefits OSS deliveres when I also want to use the benefits that gyro stabilization offers. And gyro stabilization in Catalys Browse is mich more impressive than standard OSS Stabilization. I wonder if active stabilization uses the OSS in the lens or of it is a worse version of what catalys browse is doing only using the Gyro data. Now I need to find out if the sony lense I am looking at which doesn't come with OSS still supports gyro stabilization. I already tested it without a lens and catalys browse wont stabelize no lens fottage. I dont know why exactly since i thought the gyro is in the camera body. Bit maybe there are some other Sesors in the OSS Lenses which are required for Gyro Catalys Browse stabilization and I should not even call it Gyro stabilization since it requires more data than just a gyro. Makinc all this more complicated there is a youtube who claims catalys browse stabilization works with some but not all 3rd party lenses. Maybe ist just a way to force users to buy the OSS lenses I am very confused by all this.
I've tried several third-party lenses, as long as you use active steadyshot or steadyshot off, you can use the gyro data on Catalyst Browse. When you use a lens with OSS, when you choose standard steadyshot (lens stabilization), Catalyst Browse doesn't work, but it still works when you use active steadyshot or steadyshot off. The benefit of OSS is that you can see the immediate stabilization results, which is so much faster that using the software.
@@ConstantineSPhotography I think steady shot is nice for making pictures with longer exposiors or videos with longer shutter speed while you are standing fixed and holding the camera. These adventages are worth a bit of extra for the lens i guess. I also made 3 test videos with active, standard and off where I also included some faster movements and only stabilization "off" resulted in a good video. "Standard" resulted in jerky motion probably the stabelized lens suddenly catching up with the movement. Applying catalyst browse stabilization on a video that was recorded with "active" enabled was defenetly not good either. So I will keep SteadyShot off for all videos. I just read on reddit that all lenses with E-mount and electronic contacts to the camera are supported by catalyst browse. Not sure if thats true but the 50mm fe 1.8 lens I am currently looking at for my zv-e10 might work with catalys browse. I also have the 50mm oss 1.8 in consideration but the fe is significantly cheaper here in Germany right now so i might go with the fe instead of the oss version.
"all lenses with E-mount and electronic contacts to the camera are supported by catalyst browse" I think that is correct, but when you use standard steadyshot, you still don't have gyro data. The only lenses I tried on my ZVE10 and aren't supported are manual lenses.
Thanks for this video, however my sony a7c footages doesnt seem have gyro data. I already tried your settings but catalyst is still not showing anything.
Hi Constantine,I am a ZVE10 user from Taiwan. Recently, I encountered a situation where a video could not be opened at all. Have you ever encountered this situation?
Hello! I haven't had any problem with ZVE10, but I did encounter some problems using catalyst browse with footages shot on a7cii. The files were reported to have some errors and I couldn't open them, but after I updated catalyst browse to the latest version it's no longer an issue. Have you tried that?
Thanks so much for this inofrmation. I didnt know about this until now. That's why I can't stabilize my video clips on my previous videos because I used Active shot STANDARD on my zv e10. Total waste 😭 Now I know, you need to be in steadyshot Active or off 🤦🏻
First of all I would like to thank you for making such an informative video, sadly when I use the stabilize option it makes the video more shaky and weird black bars starts to appear. Is there something that I might have missed? Thanks.
Sorry to hear that. I've never encountered any problem with black bars, but sometimes it does make some videos more shaky, maybe try different cropping ratio to see which works better.
@@ConstantineSPhotography Thanks for the fast response! I think I might have found the problem, I had the steadyshot on "active" which created the problem as someone mentioned before. I just got my ZVE-10 and I really look forward to using it! I hope you have a wonderful day ✌
