I have two SS's and no the fans do not come on initially when u crank up the car. Your primary fan (driver side doesn't come on until around the temp reaching the midways big white marker on ur temperature gauge. Once the primary fan cuts on it will cool it down and cut back off until the temperature is up again. Your secondary fan(passenger side) will not come unless 2 things occur: either u have your a/c on or when your primary fan isn't cooling the car down efficiently enough to prevent overheating.
@@dripdropgarage1776 and yes in the passenger side of the engine the single green wire sensor controls your temp gauge in the dash. The coolant temperature sensor controls the fans. Word of advice make sure u install a Acdelco OEM coolant temperature sensor. Better quality than AutoZone or any part stores brand. It will save u a lot of headache
And to test your fan relays, since your secondary fan comes on when u turn on the a/c, just swap it with your primary fan relay. They are the same and turn ur a/c on again and if your secondary fan turns on the relay is good
what did you do? just change the front sensor? my 96 is saying hot? I notice the fan on the driver side was not turning on. the passenger fan works when the car is on with and without the ac on.
Did changing the temperature sensor ever make the primary fan turn on or did you leave it connected direct? I’m having the same issue . Secondary ac fan comes on when turning on the ac . If I disconnect the sensor plug both will come on . When plugged in the primary turns on too late car is over heating
@@mrmopressure i read a lot of forums where these Lt1 engines run pretty hot before the fans turn on . I ended up changing both temp sensors new thermostat tho it didn’t need one and a new radiator that made a really big difference in running much cooler . Other guys says their fans turn on around 3/4 of the gauge . I’m still doing test runs and pulling over to check on what temp fans turn on. In the end I see my self adding a relay and Manuel switch
My temp guage only moves when ive driven 20 plus miles and stop. Then it moves zand my car might stall out. It takes at least 3 to 4 turns of the switch to crank. I was told the fuel pump was bad, then i was told to change the sensors. I changed the coolant sensor then my one fan that was working stopped. It clicks like its turning on buy it dont and the fan on the passenger doesn't come on no matter how hot the motor gets. Then when the motor gets hot my car drives real rough and cu5s back. Im trying not to mess my car up. It seems like Chevy made sure you had to change all this shit at the same time
