I vote to keep the dump body, I think the old girl likes being a single axle dump truck. I like your process of starting with the little tasks, getting some success, building momentum, and not getting overwhelmed by the totality of the project. Love hearing the old detroit surging while at idle. When I was a kid I had a neighbor that ran a twin screw cracker box with a sleeper on it cross country, idled the same as the heavy chevy with that surge. Keep up the great work, look forward to more videos to come.
Thank you, what a great memory to have in the ole noodle lol. Those WERE the days! Wait till the straight piped exhaust is on it lol.
Keep the dump bed on it!--THAT is a one of a kind truck!!! LOVE DETROITS!!!!
Oh ya!
Awesome to have good friends. Love how to get everything in and the place sealed out. We all need to be frugal now a days.
Every time I get it done right off the bat! Sharing as soon as it is over!
Grill came out really nice. I love the dump body. It too is part of the working history and story of the Truck.
I have to agree …thanks for watching 😬
That grill is the first brush stroke of a masterpiece.
I d call the truck The Mean Green Machine
The Crackerbox and the Pete fired right up!!
Grill looks amazing , makes the truck look better already
Thanks Ian
Good luck buddy
Dump trucks are always useful.
Yes sir
Nice job on the grille ! & painting the background black before putting the grille back on ! Makes it stand out more , & as some some one who drove everything but a dump truck before retiring , & now that I own one I would vote to keep it as a dump truck ! You'll never know when You'll need to haul something away , Or haul something in for your property . I know mine has saved me allot of coin from storm damage clean up ( tree debris ) & bringing in stone , & gravel + soil on the property , & beats paying someone . & your spot on about doing a little at a time , & not trying to do it all at once! But I need the go go juice to get me motivated ! Thanks for the video.& the nice words of motivation.
Thank you VC, sharp eye😬. And also the insight on a dump. I thinking it’ll be staying. 👍
Awesome! The Heavy Chevy is a great project.
I really like the dump setup. That grille looks awesome! Best of luck moving forward.👍
Thanks Mike
Call it the Green MOCHINE....
Good advice regarding step by tep in your preservation plan . Keeping it mobil, usable when the need arises. You know, with that dump bed, it's usable as a light duty wrecker also . Back up to you rescue project, raise dump, chain up, let bed down so wheels are off ground...........and high tail it home !
Hmmmmm🤔 good thinkin there Dan😊
Feel that Detroit in your bones! 😉
I miss these trucks. I even miss the smell of the cabs. Deisel, coffee, Winstons, and cheap after-shave.
Man you nailed that old school “vibe” … me too.😬👍
The heavy Chevy is very cool. I love that Pete though!
I know right? It’s like two different worlds.
the grill came out great!
Love what you do to your truck's love the ol iron
Dane you definitely put a smile on that old Chevy's face again. You are mighty talented! We haven't seen our buddy Lieutenant Colombo. Hope he is doing well. 😊❤🙏
Thank you and He’s doing pretty good, I need to misbehave so we can hear from him again. Lol
Dane, the time you take, and the work you do, a little at the time you work on that old anchor truck, the better the finish vehicle it will turn out in the end. I like your thought process you are doing. You are like me, rebuild it, but not for show or better than new. Keep the dump bed, as it makes it different from the rest of the herd. Nice work on redoing the grille. A great start to what I feel will be a super nice truck when finished. Don’t get in a hurry, and take whatever time it takes to make it like you envisioned it. 😊😊😊😊
Heavy Chevy is a great name
Owned three of them in my career 8500 with the V6 gas 478 the last two Detroit 6/71 10 sd Road ranger until California made me get rid of them.Sure miss them.
They are a blast to drive with the 238 singin loudly 😬👍
I think you should keep the dump bed, looks appropriate for that truck.
A good video.
I enjoyed seeing the green shift lever in the Cracker Box. Looks a lot better without the extension.👍👍👍
The dump box on the heavy Chevy would be handy you could haul your own driveway rock.
Start your own business you could do custom driveway work. You could haul dirt or other materials. The heavy Chevy could pay its own way.😂😂😆😆😉😉
Run safe.
Oh ya Kerry I love that green sparkle shifter😬a special Subscriber sent me that lol.
Definitely food for thought on the dump. 👍
OMG, Aint no flip flops in this truck, Priceless, LOL, LOL,LOL.
Lol... fo shur
Hello Dane,
That grill looks great. I like the way you do things, Sir, you are a master at paint, making it new or old. The old truck is looking very good. Im glad you didn't need to replace the clutch. They aren't cheap, as I'm sure that master cylinder wasn't either. Have a wonderful day Sir
Thank you Bert. We just finished the complete master cylinder lines and slave unit/ adjustment today. Was a bit more involved that originally anticipated but hey, that’s just old trucks 101 … lol.
Great job on the grill love the video thanks for saving that great truck keep up the good work
Thank you Jeff!
I think Heavy Chevy would be a great name for her!!
Looks good ...I'd leave the dump bed on it ...
Great advice!!
Those leaseway tractors used nuway pusher tag axles with 17.5 tires with spoke wheels. I'd try to locate an old one(west point truck or alderman's in Canton. Prob bolt right back on. Great job.
Oh man! Yes! that would be just the cats meow! lol.
Make it an Anchor clanker again!
Nice job Dane
Well this will keep you busy for a bit...
I think that project TLHC and a little bit of work you will have it the way you want it in no time!
First time I've noticed the Texaco station across the street from your shop. Cool....
I’m a retro guy for sure.
It will be interesting to see you bring this one back to life!!
Nice work on that grill Dane.
Thanks Bart.
The Chevy started up too.. After a little coaxing...
Ya the shut off for fuel wasn't totally pushed in.
Keeping the dump bed is way more cost effective than sourcing then restoring a portable car park. It has loads of charm, it caught your eye!
Good thinkin my friend 😬👍
Very cool truck, look forward to all the upcoming progress videos, engine seems to be in pretty good shape and sounds good. I love the dump box, looks good as a dump truck and can still have some practical use that way.
I agree, probably will stay on . Thanks too for watching
You should name the heavy Chevy " Dump Luck".
O-H-I-O Porters🇺🇸 It’s good that you have a good idea on the history of this truck. A car hauler.🤩 Like you said…It’s good to have a dump truck around since you have a few tractors already. Time for something new? Perhaps. Time will tell! The grill turned out rather well! Some good stuff to show. A truck restoration is always mind boggling! I agree that it’s good to start out just doing some of the little cosmetic things to keep the excitement UP. I still get excited about your garage! Having the right tools is great, but a nice heated/cooled garage is the icing on the hobby cake!😎 That’s why I kept my old REO in my driveway so I could go out there even on a warm night & just simply play with it or even sit inside & think about some of my ideas for it. It would help me sleep better at times. I sure see a bigger garage in my future! Tools : Do you own a Nut Buddy(for lug nuts)? A local buddy showed my his kit & I got so excited that I’ve ordered one for myself. A great thing if you don’t have a big impact wrench/air compressor. I’m about saving $$$ on any project as well, as you say, “Frugal”, but a good tool is always good to have. Good stuff! 🥰🤩✌️
Yes sir we think a lot alike my friend. 😬👍
Awesome video, that grill came out good and I thought the Pete was going to get stuck on the icy road, close one
Thanks Andre 😬👍
Your videos just keep getting better and better. I really enjoyed this, and it gave me encouragement as well, for my own project coming up. Thanks Dane! And for what it's worth, I vote for full Anchor treatment for the Heavy Chevy. You just never see those trucks anymore. But whatever you do will be a winner in my book!
Thank you Bob we’re all in this together to keep these pieces of history in the spotlight. Good luck on your upcoming project as well! 😬👍
Gonna enjoy seeing the ole bowtie come back around. That grill looks sharp!
I'm for leaving the dump body on it. The dump really fits the personality of the Heavy Chevy. You could also pick up a few bucks with it. Just my opinion. I would love a single axle dump truck like that.
Agree my friend. Thanks
I'm liking the Truckers lounge way of doing things. Looking good with the grill rehabilitation.
I love the Peterbuilt with the old style double headlights, the style is so classic 👌.
1971 is a great year that's when my parents got married.
Good that you got all your rigs inside!!
You know if it was a contest, the trucks are winning right? :-)
Lol yes 😂
A storm is a coming.
dane if you put air connection on your air tank so you can fill the tanks with shop air you will be able to move trucks faster. even though hearing the trucks sounds good.
Yes sir we do just that here, plus it helps when troubleshooting air leaks and parts. Thanks for watching! 😬👍
Fantastic video and the mean green Chevy Rider looks nice with the restored grill. Your right do a section at a time until your ready to repaint it. Keep the updates coming
That grille looks a lot better already!!
Painting the inside of the light bevels sure makes the lettering stand out.
Those Detroit's sound awesome, at this rate you will have to add on to the Truckers Lounge👍👍
Another awesome video Dane love that old Iron please keep putting out these great videos your friends from Minnesota
Thanks Shelly, hope you guys are keeping warm up there.
Time for a bigger garage. Always a pleasure watching your videos
I think I better chill on that undertaking lol. And thanks for watching 😬👍
I think it’s in good hands and it’ll look really good no matter which way you go. You seem to have really good taste in how you dress up trucks. Looking better already!
Thank you Darren, and for watching :)
You're definitely off to a great start!!
Lookin good Dane . Can't wait to see more
Great job on that grill Dane. 👍😎👍
Awesome job Dane! Keep the dump box!!
Great job on the grill. I vote to keep it a dump too. It wasn’t ever a regular tractor anyway with all of the apparatus to make it a parking lot.
Great work Dane on the grill , I appreciate your "" not a museum piece quality but presentable while keeping the trucks known history "" attitude , wish I had some pictures but the Mechanic friend in upstate NY where I keep/ store my 77 352 , his Dad was shop foreman for Anchor Motor Freight in Champlain, NY , yes because of all the racks , ramps and chain tiedowns "" Anchor Clankers "" for sure , if you decide to keep the dump body but the Anchor history when paint time comes , Blue cab and hood with yellow dump box , either way you seem to come up with good solutions for the tasks at hand , it'll be cool/ neat for sure , as always Dane thanks for the video and to you and your friends involved in these projects Safe Travels 👍👍👍👍!!!!
Thank you Dave, always appreciate your support and opinions. I'd love to hear some stories and info from him if he's still with us?
If I'd lived closer I'd love ve to help you work on your truck s
Not sure exactly WHY, but I can see this old Chevy all duded-up with a slick paint job, Daytons cleaned up/repainted….cab floor repaired, interior redone…already seen&commented on the FB post with the AstroVader bumper mocked in place.
Oh it'll get there....I mean the Jamboree is June 3 lol.
Nice work Dane (as usual)
No need to change the cab, it's not really that bad overall. I've seen much worse. I'd leave the dump box on, who knows, it could really come in handy to you or someone else who needs to do a bit of landscaping or haul a few loads of loam, gravel, etc. Grill looks awesome.
Thanks Dwight I have to agree.
That old Chevy was very lucky to end up in your garage Dane. Have you ever tried Easy-off graffiti remover to uncover original enamel paint? Might be neat to see how much of that original light blue is left?
Hmmmm have to try that. Thanx.
My vote is the same as the others keep the dump body plus I noticed she's had a rear-end change in her lifetime especially with that International emblem on the rear pumpkin
Yepp, maybe from a school bus
I would leave it a dump. Be handy to have and if you can't put it back the way it was originally with the auto rack and stuff (not practical) may as well leave it useful.
I like the way you think Ben… thank you.
Dadgum Chinese vise grips😁
lol
How is big dog 🐕 doing
I haven't heard from the new owner since summer. I've been wanting to call him.
Keep the dump it's ol school cool don't see many ol dump
Remember everyone loves good dump!!!
LOL that's right..gotta have a good dump!
Hey Dane if you dont stick to heavy chevy how about naming the old girl the green giant. I'm a new subscriber
Thanks Mike, that’s a possibility. I was thinking … “Taka Dump” what do ya think 😂😂😂
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE lol that's an awesome name brother. Glad to see a content creator interact with his subscribers that says alot Dane.
Looks good 👍. Are you painting the rest of the truck? I think it'd look killer in a flat white and the wheels, bumpers, tanks in gloss black.
Not sure yet. Just was happy to get it all one color atm. Lol. Whoops getting ahead of myself …. Spoiler alert. 😂
Looking great. Are you going to spray the body/cab?
Yes gotta lot to do first though. Hopefully by the show.
After you get it neutralized, I would do what you said and see if it is savable , if you can I would agree if not as bad as you think. Original is what is lacking now a days.
My uncles 46 peterbuilt with no front brakes would be fun at your house .you wouldn't know were you going to stop
My 74 Pete Cabover was the same. I found out one day how much fun it was to not stop until I was in the middle of a busy intersection 😮
Do you have guided tours by appointment?
You mean of the Truckers Lounge? Absolutely my friend.
Now the old girl has her smile back. What would really look good is putting the tag axle back under it if you can find one.
Yes!!!! My thoughts exactly….. the ironic part is the Brigadier had one lol. I’m gonna get hold of him and see about getting it off for me.
Keep it dump cheaper to haul your own product than pay someone else
Qwantos HP? ??
You friend me
Mr Scott call me or give me email info...I bought a horn for my nephew he's switching companies now does not need it I'm willing donate it for the dump trk..it's violent...
Oh man sweet! My email is sdgraphics@gwcmail.net
Thank you 😬🙏
I love your videos man, big ups!👍🏻
Thank you and for watching 😬
