    Grew up in a road commode, dad had the only white in the whole fleet at horwith trucking in balleitsville pa. The rest of them were freightshakers and diamond reos and macks. Awesome time in my life. By the way dad's handle was the sidewinder ran with Dutch boy, wagon master, tumbleweeds, heavy chevy ,cherry pie and many others. Miss those days.

    Hey Dane, another great blast from the past. Really enjoy your videos. In Canada trucks in empty lots like that are very hard to find, because communities call them an eyesore so they have mostly been crushed for scrap, it's too bad but that is what happens here. Even our auto wreckers now strip cars when they come in, shelf the parts and charge stupid prices. the days of going to the wreckers and taking off your parts yourself are over here. Oh well what can you do. Taker easy bud..............

    Nice look back to the trucks of the day. Like I’ve said before brings back a lot of memories, the jimmy with the big grill we had one like that I think it was an ‘84 . The 4070 , the road commander. The thing I remember the most about road commander was having to rebuild the shifter a couple of times, they had a lot of joints that would get sloppy making them hard to shift. Well done Dane, enjoyed the tour. See you on the next one. 👋

    O-H-I-O Porter greetings. 🇺🇸 You sure found a good one there! 🤩 I love the old little Ma Pa stations! The White Tend was from the 70s I believe. Thy could have either REO or White badging on them. Why? They were rather cool looking trucks! I’m not sure how many they made of them. Some say very few! Did you find something that you really want? 🧐 The White Commander 2 was quite a looker! I love a single axle cabover. It had a Cummins? I love those old little wind breakers. Now that would be an eye turner! 😏 The 1st Astro was rather sharp, too! 318 engine? Not bad! All the trucks would be worth reviving or getting for parts! Rather a rare catch! 🤩 This is one where I shall watch it again to see what I missed! So much! 🥰😎✌️

    The Transtar is a straight 4070, some called them the A model. Easily identified by the resessed area around the sleeper vent and the extra grab rail on the side. The B model was made in 78,79, and 80.

    • @bertgrau3934
      @bertgrau3934 2 роки тому

      International came out with the 4000/4070 in 1968, that truck is at least a 1974 because that's when International moved the wipers above the windshield, from 68 through 1973 the wipers were at the bottom of the windshield.

      @@bertgrau3934 Back in the 80’s I had a 1966 C/O 4000, the first year for the 4000. Prior to that it was the Emeryville, then around ‘69 or so, can’t remember for sure, it was called the 4070A, then later the “B” as it was called. My 4000 had a 6-71/10spd & I used it for hauling iron. The old screaming Detroit was always working hard but it never let me down, as long as it had an ample supply of oil to go along with it!

      Yes,sir, I think your correct. After I thought about it, the last year for the Emeryville was either 1965 or 66. Then 67 was the first year for the 4070. I remember seeing a CO. 4000 the difference between the 4000 and the 4070 (Transtar) was the 4000 had a smaller sleeper than the 4070 / Transtar. I'm sure they had other numbers for each truck to reflect the different engines, or transmission. I think.you could get the Detroit both inline 6 71, and 8V71, and the Cummins.
      I drove a 1970 Transtar, 250 Cummins, with a 10 speed. No turbo. Was slow, but dependable.

    • @robgm6926
      @robgm6926 2 роки тому +1

      It's a Transtar II, 4070B, made from 74 to 81. Basically the same same cab as the 4070A Transtar, which came after the 4000, but they gave it a different interior and raised the cab to make room for the higher horsepower engines. You can tell by that recessed step under the door.. the width of that panel under the door is how much they raised the cab. 4070A didn't have that panel and the step was a strap metal type deal that bolted right to the body under the door, also the original transtar the wipers were below the windshield and transtar II they are above the windshield. First over the road job was a 1972 4070A Transtar. Then that same company bought a brand new 1977 4070B Transtar II.

    That's just my opinion. The problem I see you spend 80-100 thousand dollars, to restore and no one would pay that much for it. Antique cars can be the same, you rebuild an old car and you have more in it than it's worth. That's just my opinion.

      It’s all in the person who values it. Times are always changing as we well know and these are but one example of how time moves and everything is subject to irrelevance at some point. Sad but..... true😞

    Salute to you driver. Thank you.
    That 79 GMC, is that a 8V-71 or a 72?
    That is my favorite engine sound since I was a kid. I imitated it very well back then even when I was a sharper sound.
    If I can find one to rebuild and put in my truck, I will be living a childhood dream but on a different level.

    I always wonder what happened to all the old trucks. Guess people scrapped them all because they wanted to make an easy buck. Or a lot of them were shipped. Because like the transtar, you used to see them everywhere, now you barely see any. Where did they all go?

    That corner doesn't cover 10% of the cars/trucks at that property. In 1997 or 8 I talked to the old man and he allowed me to walk the property. Unless they cleaned up, there are a couple hundred cars in the woods behind that station. Around the corner on rt19 they ran a scrap operation. There was a late 50's White 5000 sitting over there. Also he used to have 6 or 7 of those Trends sitting there for parts, and he ran one as a rollback. The trend used Chevy 327 or 350 in them.
