Grasshopper is the perfect name. When you're done put a pic of a grasshopper on each door.
I live in Rainelle WV but I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio !!! Love them cabovers ! I like your channel Sir !! I wish we were back in 73-84 diesel fuel used to be about.23 cent's a gallon back in 73, a carton of cigarettes was less than a pack costs today, 70s and proud of it !!! Times were really good.
All the best to you and yours Sir !!!
Yes sir John I’m with ya all the way. The 70-80s were truly the best AND worst of times in many ways.
66 KW GREAT FIND! Great shape!
I've always loved the look of the Dayton truck hub. Wish they still made them
You should contact area diesel service for the injectors, they have worked with many UA-camrs and are an awesome company to work with. They may have what you need on hand.
Great stories will Billy.
Awesome truck that 66 k whopper can't wait for the transformation alaways enjoy your conversation with Billy he is a cool dude😊
I grew up with Billy Parker son and I know him very well. I will have to see him when I get home next week
Always a joy listening to Billy Parker talk trucks, Detroit’s and over the road experiences
I'm a bit late to the game Dane on this one but CONGRATS on the 66 , sweet can't wait to see you do you Magic on it ,, I agree "" Do Not Lengthen on Cutoff Swap "" and Billy what can you say , wealth of info as many of the old timers were 👍👍👍👍 Safe Traveling 👍👍👍👍
Hey Brother always nice to hear from and /or see you 😬👍. You’ll see it at the Jamboree is the plan.
Enjoyed the sit down.
great name love it! grasshopper 🥰
Another great video Dane.
Talking about the U joint problem, I had a through shaft break. The rear drive axle was making a lot of noise. I just removed the rear drive shaft, locked in the power divider and drove not very far, I was driving a Ford LNT 9000 truck stopped at a Ford truck dealership had them replace the through shaft. I went to a motel, got to the dealership about 8 am the next day and it was ready to go. They did replace a U joint. As well.
My problem wasn't as bad as his was. But I carried tools with me, even though it was a day cab truck.
You guys had to be creative and knowledgeable to drive in the day. Hat tipped Bert! 😮😬👍
Had a throttle return spring break going up Vail Pass. Engine stuck wide open. Shut it off on the shoulder. Hike back to the rest area for a phone. Found the spring. Road crew lent me tools. Reached in behind the front wheel, and reattached. Back on the road, clear to Grand Junction and back to Denver :-)
Always grateful😊looking forward to watching you bring grasshopper back to life loved listening to you and Billy😊thankyou
I like that you don't stretch the frames and the Dayton wheels are old school for sure. Like the way you are keeping them original looking.
Looking forward to all your hard work!
So glad you are not doing a stretch! Keep 'em looking like they did in the day.
Eu sou fã desses caminhões americanos! !
My 1st truck as an o/o was an 81 K100. 3406 a model cat. after your first time down on the side of the road always carried an extra u joint, altenator, and lenghting bolt for to tighten alt. belt. they were known to break on the a models, and a bottle jack to press out the u joint caps. saves a lot of green stamps.
Dane great video 😃
Great presentation for the 66KW. You should go very far with that plan. Keep up the great work.
Great video Dane, love listening to the stories, looking forward to seeing the 66 transformation 😊😊😊
Sure hope ya rebush that torsion bar. Narrow grill K100 in this original condition I think needs the build sheet. My guy says that susp is a superior setup in many ways, really twists and weighs nothing. It's a great find! Cheers from Santa Cruz Ca
Thanks for watching, I’d definitely like to keep it that way. Will see what’s available in that regard. 😬👍
Hermoso camión con su pintura original, merece ser restaurado.
Saludos 🖐🏻😉
I remember my first heavy duty mechanic job ,everyone thought the 12 ,24 system was great ,good thing it was easy to switch😂
I agree with you Dane, no stretch. I'm not a fan of it either. I like the two tone green. Going to be awesome after it's up and running!
This is AWESOME operation grasshopper love it Dane Scott
Great video and actually you have a lot to work with acquiring a complete 66 KW100. I guess I'm old, I knew the answers to most of the CB lingo from back in the day.keep the shiny side up see you next year June 1st 2024 if I'm still above ground
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 I always liked being in the Rocking Chair or Raking The Leaves, tail end. We worked up a code so that we could flow right thru traffic when I was following my brother. Talking about winding thru traffic smoothly! Billy seems to be a unique character & probably has many wonderful stories! I’ve tried to get him on FB with no luck so far, but I’m waiting. He reminds me of my oldest brother in some ways. I hope he had a good, easy ride back home. You have a good thought on sleeping over…Grab a bunk & stay warm N cozy. Cannonball Breakdown…it has a ring to it. You’re right, there aren’t too many original ‘66 KW cabovers out there. Glad you’re doing another show next year. The Dyin Breed Show is this weekend…WOW! Goin out of town to look at trucks N trains, but we still might make it. Good stuff, bro! Blessings.🥰🥰✌️
Oh ya! its definitely getting into that fall train season too! Have fun my friend. Keep trying Billy
Man Dad had a cracker box that had the motor blown up and when I would get out of school for the summer I would sleep in that old truck all most every night that showed how much I love those trucks 😅
Looking forward to this project...
Grasshopper looks like a solid project...
very nice ole kenworth cabover
You can get the parts to rebuild the suspension through the ATHß I saw them advertised
That's an amazing truck.
Cool kibbitzing!!
Absolutely excellent very surprised to see another video called a few of the guys and they were tickled to death one so soon . Will call you tomorrow about list. Great job excellent name grasshopper. You and Billy again just excellent. On the back side
Thanks Mark, even tho it was a stretch between the last few vids I have material to get out. Look forward to the call, and thanks too for watching.
Hey Dane, great find on that '66! I'm pretty partial to green K-100s as I practically grew up in a '75 108" Double Bunk K-100 that had a green and white Salem paint scheme and a white CAT! 73s to ya from Fostoria Ohio!
Awesome experiences and memories to have my friend...you got a "proper' upbringing lol.
Good luck buddy with the k 100
The parts are available for the torsion bar suspension are available for restoration and rebuilding
Please do tell…. We’re going with a cut off but that would be my preference to keep it.
My email is sdgraphics@gwcmail.net
Dane theirs always that 1 person that’s going to correct you
🤷🏼♂️
We ain’t got no time for DAT 😂
Keep the tortionbars on pleas.
nice meeeting you at cerni s truck show. i bought 1 of your t shirts, my name is kelvin torrence
You too Kelvin...thank you for your support ...maybe see you at the 2nd annual GMC Jamboree June 1rst?
Double Nickel is 55 too BTW...
Not too long of a video, do a part 2 ASAP! GREAT stuff! Where can I buy a Truckers Lounge Merchandise?
Thanks Russ, I have mugs and some tees but they’re mediums and smalls right now. Email me.
love the truck, glad your not stretching it
You shake the trees and I'll rake the leaves. You get the cops to show themselves and I'll let you know how many. Truck World in Hubbard, Ohio I always stopped at. Yup, Barbershop and magazine and tobacco shop and a convenience store of sorts, boot shop, etc etc. Restaurant and laundry room and showers. Coming from NJ heading to Warren, Ohio up the road for a 2:AM appt at Kmart distribution. Good times
There is a guy who converted a 8v92 to commonrail injection plus it would be funny to shorten the frame to right behind the fuel tanks
Your going to have a hard time finding a cutoff with Dayton's. Your only going to bob tail it, I would see how it drives and if it is ok run it with the bushings in the torsion bar roached. I think it will be fine.
I was thinking the same way, these trucks are lucky to get 500 miles a season on them...thanks
Full Resto. Not many originals left that havent been cannibalized or even roadable.
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Im a 67 model needing some work myself lol. Love the channel Sir , always yurning for yesteryear and the vintage. That vision from all those truckin albums I wore out starting 4th grade that the parents had , and them movies and tv shows sealed the deal for me.
I would try and rebuild the torsion bars after all, all the original K125's are disappearing. I thought someone in the K100club was making new bushes for the bars. Def keep the Daytons/Gunites and WB not that I'm biased.
I’m with you my friend, I’ll check in that page for bushings. Thanks for watching 😬👍
Dont chop it, it has good looking frame. You said in the first video, torshion bar rears where continuously used for yrs. I dont jnow but the cab pump, is it just o rings and gaskets, any how your flavour😊😊😊
I always liked the sound of those old Detroit 2 stroke diesels! That Kenworth K100 truck is cool considering that you don’t see new class 8 cab over semi trucks in America now. Have you thought about air ride on the rear axles Dave?
Yes air ride is in the consideration. I agree on the iconic sound!
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE ok then that sounds good on the air ride suspension.
You paint it black, I’ll buy it from you. I’ll use it to haul my daughter’s high school band. Their color is black. And I’ll be THE COOLEST DAD in ALL OF HIGH SCHOOL BAND EVENTS!!!!!
@@rolandocastillo85dude, he gets it runnin like a sewing machine, I’LL spruce it up FO REAL
nice
Hey I live in Sharon I would love to come up and see your trucks visit the trucker's Lounge if that is possible I enjoy your your videos keep up the good work
Awesome. Thanks, I sure will.when I'm ready... enjoy your day 👊🏾
Do you remember the Golden Eagle in Englewood/Dayton on Ohio 48 just off of I70?
@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE Not much. It wasn't a full fledged truck stop, but the had fuel and mechanics service, as well as storage. That location closed several years ago, and they are now known as Englewood Truck, and a few miles farther West on 70.
Before the interstates, US40 was the route, and it uses about a mile of Ohio 48 in Englewood, and back then there was some kind of old pre-interstate type of truck stop along that stretch of 48, operated by the same guy who built and ran the Golden Eagle. But hardly any information exists about this old original location.
Rims change to aluminum or chrome.
Awww come on. Do the oil bath. I have one on a 318 Chrysler for a fire water pump. Been a good one.
@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE she runs on a 6x6 off-road firetruck. In some real dusty conditions.
Hey Dane!! Really enjoyed hearing Billy’s battle with the U-joint. Sure took me back to some of the crazy things that happened in my 48 years driving the big rigs.
Hey driver! About how many miles on truck? Also cant wait to see interior if u say is in good condition! Until next time 10-4 driver im gone!
Why Daytons the front axel is already Budd?
Preserving the trucks history and character is always the priority for me.
Bruce Wilson has made a new video in which he and his buddies go to a truck graveyard Hvae a look at it You might see the parts that you need and are looking for to fix Grasshopper
Hate to see it get a cutoff rear clip. The torsion bar was the KW suspension through the 50's and into the late 70's. They just don't look quite right with the ubiquitous Peterbilt or Freightliner air ride.
""1966, ""GOODGOD O-MIGHTY, ""AIN'T THAT OLD ENOUGH, ""NO POWERSTEERING BACKTHEN, ""POWERSTEERING DIDNOT BECOME THESTANDARD UNTIL-LATER-ON""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote a list and can donate some parts for the K-100 . Regarding the torsion suspension, wouild you expect the truck to be roadable...........or just a trailer Queen ? I'll send you a private message .
Oh man that’s great news Dan. Thank you. It’ll be a hobby truck to drive. Rick I s thinking a cutoff is the way to go as it needs everything basically from the cab back … lines , brakes wheels tires etc. Gotta be Daytons though. Give me a buzz whenever Bud. 😬👍
Is Diesel Pro Power the best place to get injectors? the Bus Grease Monkey would know
""LOOK AT THEAMOUNT OF TIME THAT IS SPENT TO RESTORE THEOLD DINOSAUR BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL-SPLENDOR, ""TRUCKS AREOFTEN NEGLECTED OVERTIME""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dane why couldn't you get a cut off and just unbolt it off of the frame that it's on Andre Bolt the suspension in new axles to the frame that's on the truck instead of cutting the frame on a truck and trying to weld or refasten the cut off frame to it if you understand what I'm trying to say
Great idea thanks. You guys have a lot of ideas I haven’t thought of.
New trucks don’t have character
""OLD-SCHOOL TRUCKS, ""YOUMEAN A 🦕 DINOSAUR-TRUCK FROM THEDINOSAUR-DAYS, ""THE-DINOSAURS DROVE-THOSEOLD TRUCKS""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to your finger😮.
Well….. fell back from ladder while workin on “GrassHopper” and sliced it pretty good on a rusty part. Shoulda had stitches but just taped it up for a week. It has finally closed up so it’s healing now. Thanks for asking.
I don't think it be worth fixing up that thing needs way to much
The body is straight and the glass is intact. Mechanically, the truck is sound as well. Any truck with a Detroit 2-stroke is worth saving.
Good luck first have fun trying to find a cut off that will match up to that frame next you might as well plan on getting another motor if u can find one without buying another donor truck the wiring I'm sure is shot I've had over 10 older trucks so I know what it takes best thing to is just get a another chassis and swap the cab
@@rolandocastillo85 I understand where you're coming from. These are hobby trucks and will not be working again. They served valiantly in their day. With me it's the challenge of making them run well again, and look as good as my wallet can endure and make them. Then go for the drive of Retro Heaven. It's the connection also to the guys I grew up admiring as a kid who took time to give me great truck memories.
Ok I’ll say something that BADLY needs to be said and remembered. THANK GOD for UA-cam, but more importantly, THANK GOD for these content producers that give us something RARE and interesting, so we DONT have to sit in front of the boob tube with our wives watching Harlequin romance BULLSHIT! How LUCKY WE ARE to have access to this priceless material. KUDOS!!!
Oh man, thank you I totally agree. It’s non stop Hallmark in the house…. Sheesh 🙄
