  • I went on a field trip to my local Sally's beauty supply and decided we would try out the Wella Color Charm toner series. These toners are designed to go on hair that has been lightened to a pale yellow- which Susan, the mannequin is not yet. However, I thought it would be fun to see how they worked on a darker more orange base. Watch to see how it worked out and get some tips on how to tone your hair at home more efficiently! In my next video, I will be lifting Susan's hair using bleach in foils and then we will have the perfect base to try all these Wella Color Charm Toners again!
    If you're new here, WELCOME!!! I'm Rae- I am a professional hairstylist so a lot of my content is hair/beauty related! This was cool to see! I’m a natural ginger, leaning more towards strawberry blonde, and I love being blonde, it’s actually pretty easy to get to a nice white blonde, but recently I did a little at home balayage and it’s time to touch everything up but I don’t want to have to section out my ginger hair, I just want to be able to tone everything and make it a little more ashy since everything is going a bit brassy…I think the t-11/14 is gonna be my go to from now on

    My hair is light to mid blond box dyed/lifted (nutrisse) but I am growing out my grey/silver. I just want something to knock back the blond which has gone a bit brassy and stale looking to blend in better with the grey area. I don't plan on applying it to the grey areas,but a grey head with yellow streaks just looks ghastly especially in a bun!

    Hey I bleached my hair and got to level 7 what toner should I use to get rid of it I’m trying to get like an ash blonde I tried T14 & 050, T18 and seems to stay like that only the top half 😩 I want an ash blonde please and thank you in advance. I was thinking on trying the No Orange Fanola shampoo to see if it will get rid of that orange tone.

    • @TheReelRae
      @TheReelRae  3 роки тому +4

      I am always a fan of the toning shampoo! It sounds like you will probably need to do another round of bleach to get it lighter. That level 7-8 orange can be very frustrating and truly to get it to an ash blonde you will need to lift past it then tone. Be gentle with your hair tho- If it's not feeling great after the first round I would try doing the shampoo tone and/or a demi permanent toner to get it to a livable shade. Give it a couple weeks and lots of treatments and then do another round of lifting. Sorry for the delayed response! I hope this helps! Keep me posted, and THANKS for watching! :)

    • @TheReelRae
      @TheReelRae  3 роки тому +4

      Good Morning! I used 2 parts 20vol to one part Wella Color- only because that's what the directions called for. If you are worried about damage you could probably get away with 10vol- I would just do a test strand first. I hope this helps! 😊

    • @TheReelRae
      @TheReelRae  3 роки тому +2

      If you don't want to go any lighter- and your pretty orange- you are probably at about a level 8- I would try putting a level 8 or 7 if you want to go a bit darker- with a blue base on it, instead of trying to tone it as a blonde. Keep in mind it will look darker when you add ash to it since ash absorbs light where as warmer colors reflect light. Let me know if this helps!! Thank you for watching!

    Would a different brand of toner made a bigger difference or regardless should you lift to a pale yellow? I’m just curious if this means the Wella isn’t as good as other brands like Aveda?

    • @TheReelRae
      @TheReelRae  3 роки тому +1

      Well, Aveda is AMAZING! For this video, I knew that the toners would not do a ton. It goes back to the color wheel and Wella says that these toners are designed to be applied to pale yellow hair which means they are violet based. Susan is real orange so she needs a toner with the blue base. I was surprised that the 8A (bangs area) did not turn out ashy(er). The true test will be when I apply these toners to pale yellow hair! Video coming soon. I will also add that mannequin hair does not accept color as well as REAL HUMAN hair- even tho she has "real human hair".

    If you are a natural level 4 and have a little re growth and decided to use let's say T18 on your hair which is a mix of level 8 and more 9 and you stylist didn't rinse out the conditioner she left you in the bowl with for 20 min and toned over it and really changed what you love which is a very cool level 9 and it's now yellow and has some orange areasl all over where Highlights were........ wouldn't the 20 Vol lift regrowth at the roots and make them hot??? Just curious as I can't go back to get it fixed and will be 2 months before I go again :( Thought I should use a lower volume? Thanks

      Ohhh girl! This is a sad story!! What did you end up doing? My thoughts in case someone out there has this exact scenario: Yes, that would 100000% give you hot roots. I would use a semi/demi-permanent toner or even a few rounds of very tinted violet shampoo and conditioner.

    • @TheReelRae

      Yes! The violet is an additive that you can

      @@wendy8561 This seems a little complicated but I am going to do my best to give you some guidance. (Also- sorry for the delayed response, I work full time in a salon in addition to youtube) So shades EQ is a deposit-only line so it's not going to make your roots any lighter- which in the case is good bc you don't have to worry about bright roots than a weird line where the leftover 9n is. If the 9 is was ay too dark then I would not use the 7 at all. I would probably try one of the level 10 options and maybe let it sit a little longer than normal. If you want to add like a TINY but of that 7 to darken it up you can do that. I hope that helps! Also, don't forget your color wheel- blue to cancel orange violet for yellows- green for test...and the always important yellow plus blue makes green- extra important to tone with the correct color! I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Also, feel free to add me on Instagram (Rachelastylist) and you can PM me a pic if you need more help. CONGRATS on school!!! :)

    All I want to do is to lighten my hair from light brown (has a lot of reddish gold in it right now because I used dark ash blonde in medium brown hair) so now it is light golden brown. I knew I wouldn't achieve the results I wanted lol but it was worth a shot. Anyway, I don't want platinum blonde hair, I just want to lighten about one more shade or two and get it to a medium or dark ash blonde. I used to bleach and tone my hair years ago and was always medium/dark ash blonde but it's been so many years I can't remember how I did it exactly and if I can avoid using bleach this round I would prefer it. Do I still need to bleach it first to lighten it and if so, do I tone it after or just put the hair die I want afterwards... I can't find any videos on this because all of them focus on getting to a platinum blonde which I don't want I just want to lighten it up and get the brassiness out.

      I have found that when you have stubborn fashion color like that your best bet is to just cancel it out with a toner vs. trying to bleach it more. You would need something with violet for the yellow and probably a pale green for the pink- now you don't want green on the blonde so I would only apply that to the spots that are pink. But what did you end up doing and how did it work?
