  • This is a video I made on choosing between which is the better option of hard wearing matt for walls. I have been using Tikkurila Optiva 5 as a durable matt but lately its hard to get hold of so I have made a decision to use these brands instead over the next few months as I need a reliable supply.

Nice video mate. The flat Matt is a nice finish but that’s it,same finish as F&B Estate emulsion in my opinion If a customer wants a durable finish that is cleanable and able to be scrubbed then the flat Matt is not the one. The clean extreme is a nice drop. Still won’t beat tikki in my eyes though however recently just started using Caparol and it’s a quality drop too.

Hello, I have been using the Crown clean extreme this weekend, very nice to use and goes on well. Like all paints though speed is or the essence to avoid picture framing.

Dulux Diamond Matt is bad for it. I use Tikkurila High Performance Vinyl Matt now as it's a class 2 scrub rating and is thick and luxurious. Almost covers in one and comes in 9 litres and can be colour mixed into other manufacturers

I find both durable flat Matt and even their diamond Matt a quality paint…. Durable flat definitely more suited to older houses with that lovely chalky finish which can be quite similar to older type paints. I find with the diamond of you roll your cut ins with a 4 inch it helps not to get the picture framing. Obviously takes a tad longer but would always do this with deeper colours. Take care. Marc

Great tip. I need to speak to Dulux about the Scuffshield Matt and see if they can do that cheaper. It's not long been out and I'm wondering if it would replace Diamond

I'm a bit disappointed with Tikkurila, switched to them about 12 months ago, really good products. As you say really popular now and shortages in general not help, now they say AR2 is going up 12%!!!! All other paints 9.5%. Ouch! Saying that the other brands will now doubt rise also.

Yes I think the plain white off the shelf is always that bit weaker but it's hard to know what to do. Crown now have the actual formula for F&B as they own them now. It's about availability and getting the colour match spot on. I feel they are all pretty much the same but I have been caught out before with colour matches being well out so on this particular job the customer specified Dulux so didn't want to take that chance.

I've used it loads and in kitchens and bathrooms. Customers give me feedback on how great the marks come off when scrubbed. It usually goes in two coats but sometimes I've just rolled a third coat just for the opaque reasons. Great gear.
