I have very little respect for any mother that puts her children in danger to avoid being alone, especially when you know that man is a monster! Even had children with him! What actual F?! She paid the ultimate price but her poor babies did not deserve any of what she allowed! I have been in an abusive marriage and never had children with him thank goodness! I did have a daughter later with someone else and ended up being a single mother and stayed that way until she was 19. I would have never forgiven myself if a man did something nefarious with my child. It was about her life and well being. This is what being a parent is about! Makes me sick when I hear of these horrid cases! All for what?

I had my son at 18 and of course I had boyfriends but if they were coming over my son would stay with his grandparents, I didnt introduce him to anyone. I don't think it's fair on children when there's a revolving door of men poor little people probably wonder " who's my daddy this week" When ypu become a parent your needs come last or I think so.

I don't understand women who have this " being alone" thing, most of us who have that issue realise its an unfounded fear when they're put forced to do it...but it takes a special sort of horrible, selfish, narcissist idiot who makes that type of decision..

YES. Bringing an abuser into her children's lives -- even if he only beats her, not the kids -- IS ABUSE, and she should get the same prison sentence as the person who hurt the child. I think the whimpering egg donor is even worse, tbh.

Our (NZ) population is only 5 million and hearing about another murder another ram raid ....another etc. is the norm and our domestic violence is shocking. I definitely wouldn't call it VERY SAFE but it is safer than Countries with much much higher populations. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else though!

@nancyalexander780 Try living in London! It's a crime content channel on its own! (Thank goodness we can't easily obtain guns here!) Thankfully I moved out for my sons safety. My just turned 15 years old nephew has been robbed at knifepoint at least 5 TIMES! And attempted to be robbed countless times more. Sadly, but thankfully he's learned to run now. You wouldn't want to bring your dog to London, let alone your children! It's just the norm now, so it's not in the news anymore. 😒

The judges, or magistrates. whatever they're called, suffer no consequences for literally enabling child abuse and death. Not in the US either. And the social services are always: deepest sympathy , mistakes were made, changes will be made, scapegoat has been fired to prove sincerity....and the bureaucracy survives.

How could Charlene let this man into her life? I understand that, initially, she was unaware but, come on, a violent man around children? She knew his capabilities, but put her own relationship with this monster before her children. Why do women do this? What is wrong with you? Your children are precious gifts to you and you should embrace that. x

Oh my God. My mother allowed, stood by, vindicated and enabled my sister abusing me since 3rd grade on a daily basis, beating me to a pulp and then blamed me for my sister abusing me. I used to think there was something severely wrong with me and that it had only ever happened to me. This helps hearing about other mothers being just as crazy as my mother. I'm not alone.

When can we hold abused women accountable for their crimes against little children who didn’t ask to be born into this world:
    1) when theyre being beaten with fists and belts and tossed around in their own home?
2)when their pets are being killed in front of them?
    3) when they’re being raped in the next room by the person you forced upon them?
4)when they’re slowly murdered and watched dying by the people who are supposed to protect them?
She will never suffer for the rest of her life. She is finally free of the burden. The day she works for social services is a shameful day for humanity

Having read, watched and listened to true crime for many years the thing that infuriates me the most (aside from the perpetrators ) is the judicial systems in so many of these cases. Australia, Great Britain, Canada and even the United States have let some of the most heinous criminals out on the streets with a mere slap on the wrist or even nothing at all. It’s disgusting that the courts/judges give more consideration to the “rights” of these criminals over justice for the victims and the protection of the public. So many times these actions lead to more horrific abuse to more unwitting victims when that could have been avoided by keeping the perpetrators off the streets in the first place. Absolutely unforgivable.

As a Kiwi I did have a giggle when you tried to do our accent, it was a little on the Oz side lol. This case caused outrage of course and some major law changes were made. Howes continues to have a very hard time in prison and while even being in protective custody he has been assaulted seriously and moving him to different prisons around country has not changed that. He spends a lot of time in solitary confinement for his own safety. A report stated one assault left him blind in one eye and deaf in one ear.

We have a horrific number of violent attacks on young children in NZ, its our nations shame. To clarify something about this case, the girls were sleeping in a sleepout, which like a backyard cabin, seperate from the main house. These are quite common in NZ, but not for young children on their own. At the time this murder occured i remember being so saddened that two small children were so vulnerable in their sleeping arrangements.

He's not long had heart surgery, he was frightened and he was attacked by extremely fit footballers. A lesson in pack mentality, social media and to not go looking for trouble I think. But yes I do agree both sides behaved badly but had those young people not set upon him, it wouldn't have happened yet he's the one spending the rest of his life in jail!

When as an adult giving testimony to the physical domestic violence, even to this day I minimise, give him loopholes and excuses.
For a child? The adults surrounding their pleas absolutely neglected her.
The abuser did this but he was enabled by a society that didn't care about the victims he left in his crimes.

ah, Emma, I am so with you. I really don´t like these "slap on the hand" sentences when it comes to child murderers or molestors, in Germany it is even worse, if you owe the Government some Taxes or "cheat" on Taxes your get YEARS behind bars, but we have a case here, that is almost as horrible as this one, and in one of my researches whilst in medical school I did a homework on this perpetrators case, meaning psychological research. THEY failed 2 families horribly and when that SOB got out for the 4th time, well, he started killing again after 2 weeks in freedom. To me, if I would be an american woman, I would rule like TEXAS COURTS do. Well, everybody knows what that means. My heart goes out to the girls Mommy. I wanna wrap me arms round that poor Mommy and comfort her. I hope that Howse-Dude gets a good a-kicking, when he might get one day. May these two innocent lil angels sleep a peacefull sleep. I don't believe in victim blaming and as a survivor of SA myself, i feel i have the right to have an opinion here. I do believe in modesty. And i do believe there are some things that women can and should do to become less of a target for perpetrators. Women can still look beautiful with out wearing such revealing clothes. Or such eye catching clothes, being drunk and sloppy, getting separated from friends whilst being out...these things all make women vulnerable (whilst out in public).
PLEASE be aware of your surroundings at all times, be a good mate and make sure you all leave together - no splitting up at the end of the night. Be safe out there guys! ❤ 🙏

I'm sure you hear, read, listen and watch far more disturbing facts than what you share with us. I do however thank you for what you do. And I love my True Crime Hoodie.

A colourful excellent story teller. So knowledgeable and experienced. Your "ad libs" are hilarious, I love the Parole Panel, which lighten the darkest of episodes. These perpetrators sniff out the most vulnerable people at their lowest ebbs, all the more necessary for support services to step in either vo!untarily or statutory. Such a sad testimony on human behaviour

Isn't it funny that we need a license to drive a car but not to become parents? That we need to go through great scrutiny to adopt a child, while abusers can simply move in a single parent household and do as they please?

I believe some are born with brains that make it very hard for the people to feel empathy, remorse, guilt. To have a conscience. Many with that brain defect don’t turn out to be psychopathic killers but may still be psychopaths and harmful in other, non-violent ways. Maybe some altogether avoid being psychopaths. But they’re all born with brains defective in ways that cause them to not feel empathy, etc.

Poor children. So so sad. I myself was abused as a child and I remember the police could not do anything for us. My dad would be back as he would just break in. I remember calling the police thousands of times but this one time my dad had my mum and my brothers and sister in a room with weapons. I called the police in private my dad was coming up I hid the house phone that was upstairs. The police lady rang back and told my dad a little girl had rang for help, he told her I was being a bitch and I was upset with him because he would not buy me a bike I wanted. Well this silly lady said ok. The phone went down I was hurt so badly. No one in the so called good old days cared. It was when I was 16 I got my whole family away from him. I took control as mum was so weak. He has now passed away and sadly my mum recently passed. But the nightmare we have and this doesn’t leave us. My now adult children are loved and have always been protected with everything I have, my 2 brothers and my sister sadly chose not to have children. What happened to us never leaves, daily we think about it, we just learn to smile and keep going. This case is so sad.

Sorry but the mother retains culpability here. I have the upmost compassion for women who get into the domestic violence cycle having lived experience of it myself. However, when there's even the slightest whiff that a child is being harmed... there is no excuse for not protecting your children.

And I absolutely do not buy that the mother didn't think to check on her daughters upon the staged break-in. I believe there was more than just one person who planned the events of that night.

I can understand why people might be angry with the mum… However, I place all the blame on the people who were supposed to facilitate her protecting her children because she obviously was unable to do it on her own. She needed services to help hold her up and keep him away! End of.

This is the exact reason why I've stayed on my own with my sons. I'm a mother first, and my main priority is them. I have plenty of years to date and live with someone else when my sons have grown up. I must add that one of my sons has ASD and ADHD, so doesn’t cope well with change. So, for now, I'm happy to put my full attention on them alone. They aren't so young for long and I'd just rather put my energy into them. People are very unpredictable. We don't really know someone, really know who they are for years. I would need to date for a very long time before I could ever trust them fully. But that's just me and my life. Each to their own.

About poor Charlene having to bear that pain for the rest of her life -- there are 2 components in a lot of child abuse: the abuser; and the parent who brings the abuser into the children's lives. Don't you think, if abuser-collecting parents were punished like co-conspirators whether or not THEY were knocked around, it would be a deterrent to bringing thugs home? Don't you think a lot of the unpunished parents can get narcissistic supply from being a Poor Charlene?

I've heard it said that it takes a person 7 times to finally leave your abuser for good. I can attest to that. I can also attest to the fact that it takes a LONG time, if ever, to get over an abuser. I was married 7 years to an absolute psychopath. I had nightmares every single night for 10+ years.
