"My blankie . . . . ." I found out some interesting trivia for this cartoon. The creators originally wanted most of the people auditioning for O. Ratz to give him a voice similiar to Hedley Lamarr from "Blazing Saddles." They didn't think of actually getting Harvey Korman himself because they didn't think he was available or willing to do this role. Turns out he was. As an anecdote, while he was recording the screams, he paused and dead panned "Eight years of Shakespeare for this" and went right on screaming again.
The WIC series spawned a ton of great shows (PowerPuff Girls, Courage, Dexter, etc), but this short has always been one of my favorites. Too bad this never became its own show too.
He’s voiced by Harvey Korman he was best known as the voice of Gazoo on The Flintstones. While Dave D. Fly is voiced by Marvin Kaplan he was best known for playing the voice of Choo-Choo on Top Cat and Gourdy the Genie on The Smurfs
One of the "What a Cartoon!" shorts that Hanna-Barbera farmed out to another production company altogether. In this case, it was Perennial Pictures in Indiana, and they did a great job. Very nice animation.
6:34 - 'Well, whatszzzzzzzz... left?' ;) Amazing, it's been almost 20 years since I've seen its premiere run on CN and I still remembered that line :). It's a pity it didn't make it to a full series, this and 2 Stupid Dogs, these were my fav cartoons back then.
Lol Isn’t that amazing how we retain those little fragments? I remembered the line about “steam heat” and him sitting on the manhole cover then getting run over. Haven’t seen this since I was a little kid in the mid 90s but I remembered that bit, and decided to search for this short. Now I’m trying to find the other short that I’m almost certain premiered on Cartoon Cartoons which creeped me out as a kid. It was about some weird ass cat and a spooky mansion. Lol Hope I can find it.
Thanks alot for finding this. This was one of my favorite episodes of the What A Cartoon Show. O. Ratz is just hilarious. He should have gotten his own show.
I came here because I wanted to find out what Harvey Korman's voice for O. Ratz sounded like. I found out about O. Ratz indirectly through the "Toonatopia" fan comic at deviantART. O. Ratz (unnamed) is a Never-Were in the Trenches of the Never-Weres.

Fun anecdote; it's like a real-life cartoon character there!
I never would have known it was Hedley Lamar from Blazing Saddles
Choo Choo and Gazoo! Two great actors. RIP Marvin and Harvey.

O Ratz: My mother did not raise me to spend the winter in a garbage can.
Dave: You're a rat. She did too.
O Ratz: But I'm trying to rise above it.
"Why don't ya just take the stairs to the roof!"
"Why didn't the stupid fly think of that BEFORE I gotta brain concussion!?"
Hilarious!
People could see him going upstairs
I think it's clever how O Ratz looks so deformed, yet he has such an intellectual voice.

@LooneyFan It's so neat how these people managed to get big names for singular cartoons!

One of my favorite shorts from the What-A-Cartoon and it’s a shame it never became it’s own series after all of these years.
"Oh, please, you don't think that one little coil.......I hate you."
xDDDD
R.I.P. Marvin Kaplan (Dave D. Fly)

Thanks alot for finding this. This was one of my favorite episodes of the What A Cartoon Show. O. Ratz is just hilarious. He should have gotten his own show.
O .Ratz was a good cartoon short. Too bad it never was syndicated to receive a season of two!
This was one of my favorites from the "What a Cartoon" show.
Shame they never made a series out of it.

This brings me back to the old days 😂😊
One of the first cartoons I saw on Cartoon Network had the voice of the late Flintstone Veteran Harvey Korman? Well how about that. :)
6:20 - "Fire! Fire!"
6:27 - "No!!! The electricity!"
(electrocutes o'ratz)
I never saw this as a child on Cartoon Network.
I did
"I'll get that blanket if I have to resort to sheer brute strength!"
"Know any brutes whose strength you can resort to?"
O'ratz:Oh shut up!
Wow i have not seen this cartoon since i was 9 years old. I miss the good old days
Wow, Kris Zimmerman, casting director for the Metal Gear Solid series AND No More Heroes worked on this as well.

""Why don't you just take the stairs to the roof?" Why didn't the stupid fly think of that BEFORE I got a brain concussion!?" 🤣🤣🤣
Thumbs up for the woody allen fly
I remember seeing the design of that rat and fly a long time ago, but now I'm blown away that they got a legend like Harvey Korman to voice the rat

I feel like this could've been a good show, at least for a season.
Probably the best Cartoon Cartoon that never became a show. Not sure how they could have elongated the concept though.

Out of the frying pan, into the freezer.
omg! such a thriller of an episode.......
They don’t make them like this anymore.
Woody Allen is a fly!
Cartoon Network is a disgrace today, except for Adult Swim. Problem is that CN is trying to be like Nickelodeon with live action shows and movies
It was a shocking discovery for the rat.
Harvey Korman, the guy who played Hedy, I mean Hedly Lamarr, voices O. Ratz.
"Dumbstir" for "Dumpster."
