When they tell the story of the Punic Wars, people are always amazed how the Romans did so badly. But they fail to mention how Hannibal crossed the Alps with his army of Widow Mines and the Romans just blinked straight into them.
Sadly as soon as you leave metal leagues, there's no going back. I would've demolished that T, so i can't play in those leagues anymore. And higher up it's mostly tryharding :/
I love how Hanibal completely locks the toss in his base but doesn't take a single additional base himself either. Despite having the entire map to himself. Guess he wanted to keep things fair?
To recall Harstem's advice from the past: as soon as he had the contain the bases he should have taken were the 3 right outside his opponent. If you can mine out your opponent's expansions, it almost counts for double; your opponent will never mine those resources, and you still have your own expansions still in your pocket.
This was like watching one of those "dumbest criminals" videos where they get stuck in a building, not because the door was locked, but because they kept trying to push a door that would have opened if only they had pulled

I played a game like that long ago. A good solution for a low level player is Tempests. They out range the mines and can fire upon Siege Tanks and Liberators.
Well, it's Gold, so not much of a surprise there. But you know what this reminds me of. Me, back when I was starting to play Broodwar with friends - often vs the AI. Sooner or later, after often having Observers killed as they move forward together with the group they are in, you eventually learn to make a separate group for them. The Zerg AI always had Spores and Lurkers everywhere. Seems this Protoss has never quite learned that concept. Aside fromt the fact that he seemed like yet another player that thinks he should be trying to be fancy, even though he had thousands of minerals. He could literally just have sent forward a bunch of Zealots to activate most of the Mines. Instead of trying to do lots of Micro that he isn't capable of yet.
Now, after I've seen second recall, I think DrkEcho considers it a timetravel mechanic, so when he made mistakes and recalled units back, everything that happened before recall never happened. That's why they wrote about failed probe rush so nonchalantly.
Ok, so youtube tells me I have already watched this video, but there is no way I have seen this before. I would never and will never forget this video. Hamster's edits and the captain going off his rocker - perfection.
20:49 at this moment, you are running head first into a fully formed terran defense line. You looked at a wall, searched for the strongest spot and tried to run head first through it
Managing your observers individually and not with your main army. *spotting* your own observers and clicking on them when explosions are happening on your screen. Noticing where enemy mines burrow while not looking *constantly* on them (you have to manage your own base sometimes). This is harder than you think! It is above gold-level play. Mines are IMBA at gold-level.
I think he doesn’t recognize what options they can actually play at this level. The mine (at this level) is actually kinda busted. The options he listed for clearing the mines all involved controlling multiple units, correct spacing, and tech decisions. Like I am sure that 3 second recall was the Protoss doing it as fast as he could. Maybe he doesn’t know how to/can’t use control groups well. There is a gap in the required difficulty to use vs the difficulty to clear the mines. So when player’s skills exist within that gap, a unit can be unbalanced for that skill level. It’s doesn’t mean that it’s unbalanced overall or unbalanced if the player responds correctly. But it is unbalanced at this specific skill range. So yes the player sucks, but he seemed much better than his opponent in every aspect of the game, except dealing with mines. I believe he definitely had the skill to use them at least as well as his opponent. But he still lost because he exists in that skill gap, good enough to use a mine, not good enough to deal with it properly.

One thing worth noting is that he's floating like 1K minerals even at the end and he could totally just warp in like six zealots and walk across the map and kill everything while the mines are on cooldown after he previously walked his entire army into them
