This is the finale of my 73 Richard Petty Dodge Charger build.
The model is all finished up and I'm happy with the results.
The MPC kit is very well designed and assembly went off without any problems.
The parts had some flash on them but they cleaned up will a little sanding and work with a hobby knife.
The only parts fit issue was with the headers. They had to be re shaped a little to get them to hug the floor boards and not be hanging to low under the car.
The model is well worth it's price with all of the extra details it includes and I highly recommend it if your a Stock Car fan. It's one of the most detailed kit's ever produced.
You did an amazing job on this one. Here I am 10 years later fixing to start this car. Thanks for posting.
Mine just got delivered today lol
You did one Helluva nice job on that Richard Petty STP/ PETTY ENTERPRISES Dodge Charger, that was also my favorite Dodge Charger also, I have alot of vintage Petty Stuff, including the sunglasses he wore in the '70s and early 80's, also his legit Cowboy hat!!! I'm going to purchase that 1:16 Petty Charger made by MPC, hopefully I find the one molded in Petty Blue!!!😎😎👍👍
Amazing work as always! Loved the trick with the window net, that was pretty clever.
Hey Boyd, absolutely fantastic looking build mate, very clean, very neat, very beautiful looking build outstanding work my friend. Thank you so much for participating in this community box stock build we really appreciate it mate. glad you had a blast doing this community build and yes I think Chevy and I will have to organise another one but probably in 12months time. KUTGW buddy and again thank you so much
She looks gorgeous! And the classic race footage was ace! :-)
That's a beauty, good on you.
I really appreciate you taking your time to make and post this video. Nice clean work. Bob
Nice Build !! I built this kit from the 1970's kit which I bought back about 10 yrs ago on Ebay .Was going to leave it clear , but found some place down south that sold Petty Blue and red paint and did it . One of my 2 or 3 favorite Petty builds .
Great job, you havent lost your touch on cars :)
Beautiful build!!!!
Outstanding Job!
Great job this a beautiful model thank's for tacking part in the build.
Beautiful job! A pleasure to look at and good videos to help the newcomers (like me)!
I need that kit! Very nice, thanks for the eye-candy!............... Whitey.
Cool. I was at that race in 73. would love to find that model today.
Awesome Job,
pss sweet build had that one got for christmas @ age 9 i kanowe that time of the year was great right you just knew the bestest models were in santas bag hahaha scooter out stay safe
Excellent work Boyd!
I’m a little late but you did a great job on this charger I have one myself I’m going to build awsome
Nice work, looks great!
Awesome looking build! Amazing fast build of such a detailed kit. I'm noticing the white pinstriping that I thought was not on the kit decals. I'll have to look at mine again. Also enjoyed the race recap at the end. That was great! But it did make me notice that the roof number was diagonal. I have favorited this video for great reference! Thanks for building and posting!
Your the best buddy. That car turned out perfect. I must say that Richards car was one of the best looking out there in the race. Now back to Sci-fi, looking forward to seeing more cool stuff. The flying sub is the next one I really want to see finished. :)
Really nice job. Welcome back to building model cars....you should do a few more :)
Excellent build!
Awesome job I have that same kit I'm going to do a out of box build to hope it looks as good as yours
That is fantastic, Great Build!!!
Great job with that kit, nice build.
gorgeous! Beautiful
Nice work. Love it.
Just came across this video. Fantastic work! The 1/16 MPC kits are definitely a test of test fitting and detail. I'd love to see a build of the General Lee Dodge Charger. That kit is my Achilles heel haha!
I have built a couple of the General Lee kit's. Some mods are needed to make it fit together right. I narrowed the front and rear suspension so the wheels fit inside the body. I also corrected the round wheel openings in the front fenders.
A challenging model for sure. I didn't do a video but there are pictures of them on my facebook page.
Great work on this bro'!!! I usually don't build racing themed models myself but, I have and, I can say that you've done a phenomenal job on yours Boyd... kutgw ;-)
Nice build!
Tip, On my Tamiya F1 cars I use to build, I would use Easy Off oven spray on the chrome parts to remove the kit plating (let sit over night in a air tight container)
wash the parts and than airbrush Alclad or Testers Metalizer. this gave the cheap looking kit parts that real aluminum or steel look. Of course as always test parts first!
Hope this helps! Keep up the great work!
Hey, nice man, I'm in the middle of building this one, my kit was bad though, I wish it was just a little flashing....
Great build mate.
Very nice build on that Charger, awesome man!, am building the 1:16 Street Charger now so thanks for the tips (Headers)...kutgw...take it easy!
Very nice 👍👍
This guy is good.
Nice eye candy
Awesome Build!!!
Beautiful build Boyd! Box stock at it's best...
thanks for sharing your the man ps does santa deliver befor july well lets hope so hohoho
Nice build, Boyd! Now, is it just me, or are the front fender openings on the reissue more circular than they are on the full-size car? I have the clear original issue, the new new ones look rounder to me. Which is more accurate? Thanks.
Nice job, I'm more for accuracy being the long timé big Pettty fan,, the roof number is supposed to be diagonal, and the red paint is supposed to be Day glo red, I'm always disappointed when die cast companies paint it wrong. I am in dire needs of Petty blue paint for my next project tho.
Nice work Boyd. Am I the only one who can't see any of the other comments?
Setting the camber is the same thing if people dont understand is lay a solo cup on its side, push it and its gonna turn left. If that makes sense is another way to explain. I help a crew a local race team, it's a tour type modified and that tire is very visible during a pit party when you come down to get autograph's people ask all the time.
cool Iwas at that race in 73, would love to find that kit.
Fantastic build! I'm about to tackle this kit and am in the planning/prep phase right now. Besides adjusting the headers, how did you install the interior panels that follow the upper body line and C-pillar? Did you glue them to the sides of the chassis or inside of the body shell?
Yes, the roof number was diagonal and not throughout the year on the King's car for 73.
Canopy glue. Huh. I’ve attached a lot of canopies and have never heard of the brand. I’ve always used white glue, Elmers.
Beautiful work man! Great tip for the window glue I'll definitely be using that thank you, I hope classic Plastics won't be upset that your car beat his... LOL. Curious question what color did you use for the red?I have the petty firecracker 400 winner and I'm trying to find the right red... thnx
Great build brother. I'm a new sub and I really like your work. kutgw!! Take care bud, TTYL
Ron
