So great to see a model manufacturer do RP justice- he is so much more than just legendary- a truly great person. Consider yourself lucky, if you have ever gotten the opportunity to meet him- I believe he is personally responsible for turning our love for racing (and the desire to build great race cars) into what it is today. He’s a guy you should never disrespect. He set the bar for “best with class”.
Thank you for sharing my build in your video!! I put the the whole body together first before paint. I eyeballed the red paint. I DID NOT have a stencil. Enjoy.
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow lost the account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Marley Jagger Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
WOW! This is so cool. I've never seen a Salvino's kit before, but the Petty kit is a really nice one. I can remember building the MPC Petty kit. I got away from building, but I think I'll have to start again, and besides, I'm a Big Richard Petty fan! 43 FOREVER!!! 👍
I've been so excited about this kit since they announced it. I grew up working on Frank Warren's #79 Dodge, so with the aftermarket decals, I can build several versions of his cars.
I joined Salvino JR'S model club today. Was very pleasantly surprised that Rick himself answered the phone. I got this kit, AND the NEW kit ( I'm not supposed to mention?) But WOW 👏. I'm hooked. Those guys really know their stuff Luka!
I agree, I met Jim Rogers on a warranty call. We talked about modeling and my love of the modified series ...He helped me design custom parts for my modified replica at my local track. I’ve joined the club and enjoy getting a new kit each month. These guys are really nice folks and have a love of Nascar . Made in America, old school style. Model makers dream come true.
I gotta get one salvinos mopar so I can take a look at it closer and build it. I have seen alot of mentioned details in these, now on mpc and jo-han kits they had beautiful engine blocks with correct cross bolted mains that hemi has.
This is a cool-looking kit. I have the 1/16 Charger that was just re-released, but I'm thinking about picking this one up as well. I like the old MPC stock car kits, and I've built a couple of them. I found that once you figure out how they go together best, they're not too bad. I built up an old Rusty Wallace Alugard car that went together great, and looked really nice.
That SalvinosJR charger is an AWESOME kit! As for the Builders Club, it's simply an incredible deal! The extra decals they include are worth $20 alone. The club members get their kit of the month before they ship to hobby shops. If a certain kit is super popular and will sell out fast...club members have dibs on what they ordered. If the club members alone buy all the kits of a particular car., none will be sold to hobby shops. The Wednesday meetings are FUN! They let us know what they are up to and what is next. They typically give out a free kit and other free stuff every Wed nite! These guys are AWESOME and very talented and a pleasure to deal with. If you like NASCAR kits, being a club member is something you NEED to do. If you don't join, you are missing out!
I don't see that much of a difference, mpc kit can be modelled as good if one wanted. But what got my eye here and pretty much everywhere is when you have a mpc kit with flash, it gets alot of thrash talking but when it's salvinos or revell with alot of flash it is ignored as being part of modelling.. What it exactly is
The picture on the MPC box is actually a retouched photo of Petty's 1972 Charger (note the blue grille, the 73 grille was chrome). The side window opening had been changed to reflect the 73.
Now that is very interesting that you say this. Because after I shot this video. I was looking at the MPC Box really close. And I thought that the area on the car you mentioned. Looks doctored up. Thanks for commenting on this.
Great review. I have 3 Salvino kits with 2 being their own and and one being an 80s Monogram reissue and they are great. Can't wait to build a Mopar one next.
Great video! I love the Salvinos JR kits! The only thing I’d like to see is no chrome being as they used real metal chrome and IT DONT COME OFF! I’m building the 72 Charger now , same kit! I really enjoy watching your videos. I did start the MPC Chevelle but never finished because the chassis is almost unbuildable! So yeah Stock model kits have come light years!
Got mine last week, really sweet kit! (I'm glad that I joined, I'm loving being in the Club so far 😁) And yeah, it did come in a really great box (I kept mine too, LOL) 🤣 That was an excellent comparison and a great walk through of the kit, great video, my friend! 😊✌ Oh hey, if "you're keeping it" (not building it, not for sale), welcome to being a collector 😜 (I couldn't resist, my friend, and I suffer the same affliction 🤣)
It was my first model car back 1975. Eight years old. I remember the chassis came all mangled and poorly molded. I remember telling dad we can build it like a stock car wreck. Remember also learning dad really wasn't a car guy. The model didn't survive the degenerate years.
Nascar did not allow the Hemi engine starting in 1965 and the Nascar engines used a wedge style head. Seems if these kits were fixing incorrect items then perhaps the smaller valve covers are actually for the 426 wedge engine. If not then the kit is not period correct for 1971. Nice kit though regardless.
Hi Bill. If I remember correctly, NASCAR allowed the HEMI back in 66 after Chrysler pulled out in 65(similar to Ford threatening to pullout for 65). All this happened while GM sat on the side lines.
Awesome Comparison Luka, I'm a New Member of The Builder's Club and Received My New Petty Charger w Cooolll Xtra Decals But I Didn't get THAT STICKER of The Guys 😟😟😟. Still Haven't Opened The Kit Either. I Also Can't Seem to Wakeup Early Enough to Catch The FB Shows,,😶😶😶😶. Ohhh Welll, Have a Blessed Week.
Ordered one from a local hobby shop this past weekend. Had the PMC kit back in the early '70s and about the only thing I remember is the chassis comes in 2 pieces and was molded in black. Does any body know if Salvino's will be doing the Charger Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird??
If you were in the Builders Club, you would know what they plan to build next. It is a great deal being a member, the extra decals alone are worth over $20 alone. The Wednesday meetings are great!

Thanks for the unboxing Luka. Pre-ordered the undecorated kit from Mike's along with Marty Robbins decals. Can't wait...
I like to hide a tiny neodymium magnet in my caps and in my filler neck so that way I can always take the cap off and show people
Very cool!
I had a 73 had a soft top and a moonroof moonroof never really sealed sold it to a friend and it's actually sitting in the junkyard right now
Is it just me or can anyone else here smell this, i can't bust a new kit open without taking in the smell of new polystyrene.
STYRENE AND CARDBOARD I smelled it when he cut the cellophane off
The Polar Lights 1974 Petty Charger is small block only.

At 14:56 is the car he ran in '77. I guess Granatelli didn't like the small decal. I like that big one how it covers the width of the hood.
Just noticed the fuel filler on the MPC body is more forward than the Salvino's body.
