- From TrekWorks:
This is Pt 2 of my Richard Petty Dodge Charger build.
I've finished painting and clear coating the body and I'm happy with the results. It's got a glass like shine on it and all I'll be doing is a light buff on it a bit later.
Up next I began the work on the chassis. I've got the front and rear suspension done and the wheels are mounted. In the next update it will be on to the roll cage and some other interior details.
I didn't worry about a gloss coat before the decals because I had sanded the paint very smooth with 1500 grit sand paper. I cut the wheels off of the sprue with some clippers and then carefully sanded the edge until the bur was gone.
Only a tiny bit of chrome was lost and a touchup with some bright silver fixed that.
The paint I used is Spies Hecker.
That looks absolutely stunning...!!!! I built the same exact kit, got mine in 2014. Had all kinds of fit issues, around the engine bay area.. could not get it to fit with the headers... and suspension peices... but eventually I wiggled everything in (with a little shaving of some parts to help.) Yours looks fantastic.
Awesome paint job your build is very nice
that is turning out sweet. love how the body of the car came out
Boyd, Can you explain/describe how you did the white pin-stripe?
Thanks Dave. It's one of the most detailed stock car kit's out there.
Wow that car looks simply amazing!
Thanks John, lot's of practice painting the big scale cars ;)
Is phenomenal, great job. Sorry about the double post. Stupid tablet
Really beautiful! A funny master piece, congrats!
You do know your paint! Looks great!
It's the nozzle that it came with. Not sure but it's a SATA mini jet gun.
Thanks, man! I just wtached the third part. This looks so cool!
Looking great so far, the gloss finish is very nice, how did you apply the tiny white pinstripes? Cheers
Nice deep shine ,my friend!
I would recommend any Dragon 1/35th Tiger. I like the Tiger I initial production #6252 or the Late production #6253. I love the King tiger kits they have also. AFV Club makes a nice later Tiger. Tamiya's Tigers are dated, they need a lot of after market parts to make them look good. I am working on the Tamiya Porsche King tiger for years now. I have the Zimmerit on it, metal barrel and Modelkasten tracks and photo etched parts. It will look great once I get it done someday. Hope that helps. :)
Looking fantastic buddy. You are the best painter around. Those automotive paints you use are perfect. Looks like the real car. Now let me ask a question, does this car travel in space or shoot laser weapons or battle aliens? Hehehehehehehe. It's so weird to see you do cars. I have some car models too. I have one of my 1977 MGB. I had to buy the left hand aftermarket dash for it. I need those paints you have to get that beautiful paint job. Keep up the great work.
Great work! I got three questions (I am a car model novice so please excuse my ignorance):
1. Decalling 101 says you need a glossy surface to avoid silvering. Your base colour does not seem glossy at all. Trick of the light or trick of the modeller?
2. You seem to use the chrom parts out of the box (rims). When you remove the casting stubs you inevitably end up with non-chromed bits on your kit parts. How to you cover this up?
3. Can you spell out the paint brand?
TIA for your answers!
Cheers!
Thanks man. I thought the idea of the box stock build was cool so I got involved.
I actually want to build some other stuff besides Starships. Know a good Tiger Tank kit? Would love to do one.
Hah, I was 12 but I remember seeing the races back then on TV.
Thanks.
I used to for quite a few years.
Looking great Boyd. I use the same type of clear and the same touch up gun. What size is the nozzle/needle you use and what pressure do you spray the clear.
I used some as is and others I wanted to look aluminum so I sprayed Testor's dull coat over it.
Thank you.
Lacquer and enamel mixed can be touchy I try to keep everything the same when painting.
Hi Boyd. Great video as always. I wonder, do you work in a body shop for your day job?
i was only 2 when this thing a doin laps!!
I waited until the other colors were dried and then masked the line and painted it on with my air brush.
I just masked it with the thin vinyl tape and then air brushed it on.
Beautiful work on the paint Boyd!
Is the Dupont clear you used also an acrylic urethane like the Spies Hecker paints you use?
Building this TrekWorks I was wondering if you did a tutorial on painting the body?
Nice paint job on the body, what do you do with the plated parts?strip them and paint or use as is
Cheers
Yes it is.
Looks really good. What colors and gloss coat did you use?
Evey thing I habe seen you
Wtf! Why did you not show how to do the hardest parts!!
Boyd, How did you do the pin striping? It dosen't look hand painted, did you tape it off and spray it?
Am i seeing it right, do you already have the glass in it?
