@@AljoschaSINNLOShonestly.. if they can deliver 4+ tflops of performance i.e. on par with Xbox series S.. I'd consider leaving the desktop PC game, sell that and use the deck as my main driver. Microsoft might also enter this space and if they curated a mobile version of windows, they could compete in this space
The Steam Deck is barely 2 years old. A lot of people seem to think it's outdated and old now... the Switch is 7 years old in comparison and they cost the same amount of money.
Switch games are insanely optimized for the switch's specific hardware. The steam deck simply runs PC games, which aren't optimized for the steam deck's specific hardware. It will get outdated way more quickly than the switch.
@@bj0urne Nah, lots of third party game has held off by switch hardware, maybe some select flagship like Zelda and Mario is super optimized (And not on the switch side, but more on the developer side make it super optimal). You can optimize but you can't cheat specs. Also with same argument, you can also optimize game running on deck with various mod and settings, you actually have more control, so saying it will outdated quickly is just not correct IMO.
got the LCD and still love it, it’s a reminder and a special place dear to me. I was those customers that had to wait months & months during the pandemic, and it feels fulfilling to finally have one. I play Tekken 8 online on it and it’s a blast! one day I’ll get an OLED but for now I’m good!
@@Xennnos512 LCD will give you permanent matte glass on the screen and mute the color little bit whilst you can change to 512 ssd later on 64 GB version
I had to wait 7-8 months to get my 512GB LCD version and I signed up within an hour of them going live. Once the OLED version came out I sold my LCD for $350 to a local and got the new limited edition one.
Just got my Deck (used, 512gb LCD) the other day, which I am still learning everything about it. I'm new to online gaming and PC gaming, and not very tech savvy. So definite learning curve for me. I'm hoping 🤞. I got a couple of small games from the sale, as I can't afford much currently (recovering & rebuilding after a house fire). I've been enjoying it so far, a nice distraction and escape from my life currently when I have down time.
It's really not that bad, you just have to do a bit of reading, experimenting, and you'll get the hang of it soon enough! :) And it'll be worth it! Btw, my colleague Christopher wrote a bunch of amazing guides for the Steam Deck, you can check them out here: www.gamersdirector.com/category/steam-deck/ And good luck with the reconstruction, don't let it bring you down, man. Shit happens, you gotta push through. Health comes first. 🙌
The best part about the OLED was, that people sold their LCD oleds in masses. I was able to get a 500GB model for 300€, which was a pretty sweet deal. I wasn't completly sold of the idea of a SD, but now I love it. If there is a SD2 in the coming years, I might be dempted to actually buy a new one this time.
Yeah man, once the OLED popped up, LCD models lost like 25% of their value on the second-hand market, almost overnight. A great thing for first-time buyers!
Tell that to eBay sellers right now, when you factor in shipping it’s actually MORE expensive to buy a used one then to buy a new one from valve. It’s not like they are hard to get ahold of either.
OLED will eventually burn in, despite what the idiots say. It might take longer due to advancements, but will still burn in after years of use. LCDs generally will never suffer that fate.
@@agrisimfarming True. I bought a Steam Deck, but eBay found a problem with the sellers account and I got a refund. Ended up with a RAZER Blade instead.
I have both LCD and OLED. Like CGD says in the video, once you adjust the colour temperature on the deck either with the in-built adjuster or VibrantDeck plugin through Decky Loader (if you can still get it) the display actually looks great. The one thing about the old deck is the buttons sit more flush and don't rattle as much as my OLED buttons. Apparently they made the OLED deck buttons ever so slightly smaller to mitigate them from getting stuck. Anyway, I still use my old LCD model and I give it to my friends to play so we can play some couch co-op when they stay over at my place.
Well said! I am still loving my OG LCD Steam Deck. At the time I bought it and even now it is such a great value in gaming. I also bought the 64 GB model and upgraded it to a 1 TB SSD and a 1 TB Micro SD. You are also right about the vivid software update and how that improves picture quality. Rather than spend the money on a "more powerful" gaming PC I chose to compliment my OG Steam Deck with an, Analogue Pocket and a Switch OLED. These 3 devices complement each other well and I really don't feel like I am missing out in the portable gaming department plus all can be docked to my TV. What a time to be a gamer! I definitely don't take any of it for granted.
Couldn't agree more! A device for every kind of scenario and use-case. People are sleeping on the Switch as well, it's a little beast for indies! But the sheer level of performance and flexibility that the OG Steam Deck provides is just mind-blowing. I've been seeing used 256GB models for like 270 euros. Insane stuff.
@@CGD.Studio Agreed. Plus you get all the Nintendo first party games and the Switch is a beast when it comes to battery life. I definitely and not surprised the Steam Deck is holding its value.
I have the OG Deck and I've just purchased the oled one 😊 The initial goal was to sell the current one and now I've found myself in a spot where I'm looking for excuses to keep both. Unfortunately I live alone so there's no real reason to keep both, but I just love these devices.
you could keep it as a backup in case your oled gets broke. otherwise I would say sell it, the LCD model is going for around $300 - $400 on Ebay right now depending on how lucky you are with bids and how well your listing is written. I just got a 256gb LCD model for $308 on an ebay bid and have been impressed so far to where I almost wish I saved up for an OLED first.
@@Trippsy05 Yeah I just got the package 15m ago, I'll be testing the new device for a week or 2 and will probably sell the LCD one since I'm not a collector. Used prices are quite high here where I live as well.
Less than 1k subs? Dude, you got me. Subbed. Great vid, great point. It was fair and you were conscious that not everyone is printing money the way some creators talk 😂
Aw, thank friend, really appreciate the comment! 🙌 Yeah, it's insane. They have to make a living, sure, but the point is not to do it at someone else's expense. (those watching)
I got my Steam Deck in early 2023, and while I am a bit envious of the OLED Steam Deck or ROG Ally, I've realized with time that there is a reason I jumped on the OG LCD Deck as quick as I could: while it's not perfect, it fits my use case more than any other handheld out there. I love to leave things on in the background but I also hate having to worry about burn in or a micro SD card slot dying. While I think the Deck OLED is probably an amazing handheld (I have an OLED ultrawide at home and it's insane), the few games I play that even are HDR compatible I don't really ever play on my Deck. On top of that, I feel like the new color calibration setting does an AMAZING job at making the screen look better, which helped to soften the OLED blow. I also recently got an RMA unit after my left bumper broke and it couldn't be repaired, and I got a revised LCD model instead, that has a redesigned cooling system that's a lot quieter and what seems to be a slightly different screen since the color controls don't change anything between native and sRGB so I think maybe the panel is native sRGB now. All that to say, Valve made it apparent that Deck OLED was like a relaunch for them, and that with the supply chain issues mostly gone, they were able to fully fulfill their vision, but it seems that might also be applicable for the newer units of the LCD variant too! I'm glad to see they're not just giving up on it altogether now that they have a revised model.
Yeah, their post-launch support and efforts have been unlike anything I've ever seen. Really makes it worthwhile for the people who purchased the LCD model early on. Commendable, to say the least!
I’ll agree with this! If cash was disposable, OLED for sure. However, I bought my 512 LCD, mid January 2024 used for a steal of a deal. My first handheld, and indeed first gaming pc (I’ve always had one of the PS’s) annnnnnd currently I’m primarily playing steam deck, it does everything, Indies, AAA, and AAs. It’s amazing, good vid
I’m definitely thinking about picking up a SteamDeck LCD for a first time handheld pc knowing it can run AAA and AA is good because I really want it to play ps2 games on the go
Saving for a deck and I'm glad to know the OG version is still more than enough to play indies on the go, I'll save the AAA's for my gaming PC. Great video man!
Thank you brother. 🙌 Oh it'll handle much more than indies, you're gonna love it. 😄 Just make sure to switch the display to vivid and you'll be good to go!
The fact that the OG LCD can plug into any monitor on the go / in the hotel / at a friends / or PLAY ON THE GO? , connect to any of my controllers and still run big titles like Titanfall 2, The Division, Hogwarts Legacy, DragonAge Inq, Elite Dangerous, Lego Games, Final Fantasy, Shadow of Mordor, Jedi Fallen Order, Rocket League and play them well! Are the graphics turned up to Ultra with every feature on pushing 120 fps? no.. but they're all more than playable.. playable on the go... for the price it's a STEAL! I absolutely love mine! And that's not even getting into Emulation.. Can I get an OH YEAH for BOTW or ToTK on steam deck? :P
I just recently bought my steam deck 64gb base model for 400usd and it's very amazing. I just bought 256gb SD card and with this little storage, I still have enough. SD is really great.
I'm waiting to get payed. Never had a steam deck before. Just a pc I made years ago with a 2200g and a 1050ti. Might get the 500gb oled for $550 or maybe the 64gb lcd for $400 and a 500gb a2 SD card for $50.
@CGD.Studio sorry it'd 350. I meant $400 with a 500gb u3 a2 SD card. I'm probably gonna spend $450 total for the 64gb lcd and a 1tb u3 a2 SD card and maybe anti glare screen protector.
Bought the limited edition OLED for my brother on christmas and the only thing im truly envious of is the weight distribution on it, it doesnt actually weigh much less than the LCD but somehow manages to feel so much lighter and comfortable when holding it by the grips
I’m really thinking about getting the OG Steam Deck soon and it is very refreshing to hear your perspective on the constant evolution of technology, FOMO, and just feeling like the things you have now aren’t good enough. I kept feeling like if I don’t get the OLED then it ain’t worth it but that is so far from the truth. Thanks!
Yeah, 95% of the tech UA-cam space makes a living through FOMO, all at the expense of those watching. :/ Don't fall for it, an LCD Steam Deck delivers, like, 80/85% of the experience. Sure, a newer device is often better in one way or another, but money's hard to earn and easy to spend.
Yeah i love the og steam deck it got me back into gaming since ps3. That said there was so much in the 8th gen that I missed that I bought this knowing i might only be able to play a few 9th gen quality AAA games.
Definitely, it feels like we're all in the same boat. The older we get the more games we miss, but it's nice to have a dedicated device to go through one's backlog.
Gabriel Newell is my hero, my Steam Deck only has 512 GB of hard drive space, I have Genesis games, Capcom classics and normal pc games installed. I have more than 100 games installed and I still have about 80 gigabytes free, Valve did an excellent good job 👍
Hey friend, an OLED vs. LCD video is planned, most likely for August! 😁 That's been in the works for a while. As for optimizations, there's really no reason for me to tackle such a video because shooting and lighting and editing takes up way too much time, and UA-cam is already littered with similar videos. And this is still an incredibly small channel so if the odds of that video not performing well are high, then it's just not worth the effort (sadly). As for Windows-related optimizations, there really aren't any big ones that come to mind. You just download a few third-party apps and, potentially, use a few tools to de-bloat Windows 11 and you're good to go. 😅 Surprisingly simple and straightforward. Everything just works and, in some cases, it works a lot better and more seamlessly than on actual, "standard" Windows-based handhelds. Not sure why, probably has something to do with Valve's drivers and firmware. If you want I can type out what I'm using once I get back home. 🙌
I’ve got a PC so I’ve been extremely happy with the 64 gig steam deck since I paid 350 for it, bought an ssd on sale and it took minutes to swap to a terabyte! I kinda put it down for awhile during the semester but now that I’ve picked it back up again during my downtime I’ve been having a blast!
Finally some love for the 64gig. For some reason people have for got about it lol. On top of that I get the praise for the Oled but the og Steam Deck is still amazing I play it more now that I did when I first got it! And when I need more space I just buy an SD Card and keep it going. I love the 64gig Steam Deck, I'd make that purchase 100xs over again
Great video! I recently invested in an OLED and filled it with just over 6000 games from old to new. You can't fault this device, it is absolutely amazing!
I saved up my money to get the OLED, and now I'm thinking to get the LCD one. Great video by the way, you really speak up in different point of view. subscribing!
"It doesn't have any unique selling feature at this time..." Uh, yeah it does. You've been talking about it the entire time... It's stability. The way it just *works*... That's a HUGE selling feature.
Oh, I agree completely, I was talking more in comparison to what the ROG Ally and Legion Go have - a 120Hz VRR panel, or a humongous 8.8" 1600p display, detachable controllers, and so on. You know, things that are bound to catch someone's eye immediately. "It just works", sadly, doesn't sell as well, even though - in my opinion - it's the most important thing.
The soon-to-be discontinued LCD 512 GB variant went on sale, lower than the mass-produced 256 GB. As much as I would have liked to have OLED, that was a deal that was just too good to pass up. I've been played with the original LCD switch and I've NEVER had problems with the experience. So I went and bought the LCD version. I am excited for it to arrive!
May it serve you long and well! 🙌 People get way too caught up with specs and panels and whatnot. We should all be gaming a bit more often as opposed to flaming each other's opinions online. 😅
You're running windows on your deck...meanwhile the Deck's progress with Steam OS and Proton made me finally drop Windows on my gaming PC and move to Linux.
Thank you friend, honestly! I will, this is a grassroots kind of thing, so the people watching and commenting mean a ton, they're not randomers "used" to generate millions of dollars. :) And yeah, the OLED kicks ass! For $300 though, this one's just spectacular.
I had a steam deck 64 gb in 2023, it was awesome but it had light bleeding everywhere in the screen, it broke my heart, and I had to send it back( bought in a tech shop, not from valve). But after I saw this video I am thinking to buy it again, I hope that it will come without light bleeding (ofc it will be some kind of light bleed, every lcd panel has, but it has to be acceptable) . Again thnx for the vieo!
Thank you for watching! 🙌 Glad I was able to help. Yeah, backlight bleed SUCKS. Maybe you can buy one used, that way you'd be able to check it out in person! Like, people are selling the 256GB model for 265 euros where I'm at, that's insane! Well worth buying. (do a bit of research on its fan, too, as some units, the earlier ones, came with a noisier Delta fan, as opposed to Huaying)
i totally agree with you when you analysed how you play your games. I am planning on upgrading my ps4 to ps5 because it handles the AAA games better and i am also planning to get the steam deck lcd for the indie games, retro games etc. I like how you broke it down. nice one
May it serve you long and well! Oh, recommendations, oof, that's a tough one. 😅 It really depends on what you're into. I'm mainly playing Diablo 4, Darkest Dungeon, games like Dave the Diver, some PS3, old school point and click games like Curse of the Monkey Island, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Hades runs like a dream, Dredge, a bit of Sifu, Hi-Fi Rush, etc. You're spoiled for choice!
I just got a 256gb LCD model on ebay for $308 and so far I have been very impressed all around. The things I have to complain about are the controls mainly. The ABXY buttons remind me of an Xbox controller, which is fine, but ever since I got a dualsense nothing has gotten close to how good that controller is. I often cant find the Steam and triple dot button in the dark because it is flush with the body and the same texture as the rest of the deck. Otherwise its a decent controller, and it fills my hand better than most. Coming from a very high end PC, the Steam Deck humbled me in that not every game is going to run at ultra and achieve consistent frames at the same time, but at the same time it's insane that I can play real PC games on the go without lugging around any extras. Overall the only thing I regret is not saving a little longer and getting an OLED model.
Don't let into the FOMO, your LCD model is still amazing! The OLED's battery life is the only big game-changer, but other than that, the OG still spanks. :) Btw, $308 is an insanely good deal!
I got my steamdeck used in late 2023 for 379 euros and i am very happy about my purchase. Yeah, I could've gotten the OLED steamdeck but 512GB steamdeck for that price is just an amazing deal! I finished the whole GTA 5 story-mode on it and i don't have any complaints. It can do so many niche things like playing old DOS games and every emulator made for linux/windows under proton. Its a great console to just lay in the bed and get your mind off of things and enjoy your favorite games. It has a few problems that are linux related (anti-cheat not working) but since you report that windows is stable that is no longer an issue. The LTT video is just scaring everyone away (me included) and you shined a light so thanks for that! I might try to install it one day but i don't need to at the moment. And the thing is, you get A LOT of support since this is made by valve and developers are tuning their games for it so you are getting a high guarantee of your game actually working. It would be really nice of value to make a better battery pack in case the technology improves so this console can move on for years to come. Yeah, its made out of cheap feeling plastic but its not worse than chinese stuff we but on aliexpress. I just love for that price you can get a console for all of your tinkering needs. Also, i LOVE the touch-pads, such a great thing to add to this type of console, i can't live without it so this just makes it 10000 times better than any other handheld (legion go has only one, but i need two for the usage of the keyboard). Now, to sum everything up, great console, great OS, stable as a rock, makes linux more mainstream (thank you valve, you have my respect).
Yeah, you can't fully trust big-time channels and UA-camrs, they all have an agenda of some kind, to push people towards affiliate links and sponsored products. Praising the latest and greatest thing is always the way to go, for revenue purposes. The OG Steam Deck is still going strong, and it's better (and cheaper!) than ever. 😁 Couldn't agree more!
I purchased mine like you, from re sellers because in my country (mexico) it was the only way to get one, man i love mine, is just incredible, titles from ps4 era and before runs like butter and the trackpads are the best thing ever on a controller you can use both as joysticks or buttons is juts amazing im waiting for the steam 2 to release because im buying it day one
Refreshing to see a tech reviewer with a clear head on his shoulders! Just because the OLED exists doesn't mean the LCD isn't still amazing and should no longer be recommended. When you can find one used or refurbished under $300 it's an absolute steal.
I was on the fence on what to buy for a handheld with my budget but when Steam reduced the 512gb LCD version to £291.75 it was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’m really happy with it. Yes the Oled version looks better but the £187.25 difference in price to the Oled I’m glad I managed to get the LCD version.
I've been looking into getting one since it released. I don't have a working PC and haven't for a while, and the funny thing is that the Steam Deck has better specs than my old setup! It may not be the flashiest or have a unique gimmick to it, but it's functional. And sometimes that's all you need. Also the community is massive for the Deck, since Valve is the ones behind it. If I ever run into a tech issue or need help running a game on the Deck, I can guarantee someone else has already posted a solution online. I don't know how true that is for the competition.
Couldn't agree more! The ROG Ally community is pretty active, but it simply cannot compare support- and ingenuity-wise to what people are doing over on the Steam Deck side of things.
I flip video games and consoles as a side hustle. On Valentine’s Day I was able to find a 512gb lcd steam deck for 250. I was going to sell it to make a profit but since my wife knew how much I had wanted one, she let me keep it. NGL, for the price I got the deck for, I don’t mind having the LCD version. Love my deck!!
I think about the hype on the new edition but my original is so good that I can't front on it so hastily. Been playing with it still after the honeymoon phase. Great hardware, even better software. Must buy.
30 year console gamer, but got one for emulation now to downsize my physical collection. Its been an amazing purchase, also picked up a few games like noita and terraria. So worth it
Scored the 512gb anti-glare LCD for $350 during a Steam sale. OLED is obviously better, but for me, better screen & battery isn’t worth an extra $200. LCD deals are insane.
For real I bought a 64gb lcd model and upgraded the ssd to 512gb. With the games I’ve bought on steam I won’t be touching the Oled until sd2 comes out.
Currently saving up money for a 64GB, from a scalper too (I'm from Brazil, there's no other option). Can't wait till I get to December, that's probably when I'll have the money making $2 an hour 😂😅
In Canada the refurb is only 250$ USD with free shipping which is usually exorbitant. The other options may be, "better" but they just aren't 300% better like they are more expensive.
You can always create a dual boot setup and pick and choose the OS depending on your needs and preferences. 😁 That being said, Windows has gone down the drain over the last few years (and then some), so maybe getting accustomed to Linux isn't that bad of an idea. 😅
OLED Steam deck is phenomenal but if you only want to spend 300-350 OG Steam Deck works just fine. I got the OG from one of the first few waves of the preorders and used it nearly every day then bought the limited edition OLED simply because i loved it so much i wanted to see what the best version of it could be and I think it will be my favorite device for a very long time.
Thank you! Most reviewers only have the OLED in mind. Heck, they be reviewing the LCD version, saying good things about it and how I should get it in 2023 but at the end of their video, they're like "Get an OLED". I know the OLED is the "best choice" but its too darn expensive! Since we only have 1 reseller, the price is crazy high! The 1TB variant I think was around 1K while the ROG Ally is at 999$ Used LCD version is around 600~700 (in local currency ofc)
Yeah, they're always focusing on the latest and "greatest" things, almost to a fault. No one takes price-to-performance into consideration, it's awful. :/
Deck and rog are same price and go is too I think. But I don’t think windows is ready for handheld. Plus rog kills sd cards cause they placed slot right next to exhaust so im goin with oled deck for it’s reliability
I have the 512gb LCD steam deck. I paid $520 for it. Honestly the steam deck concept is real next gen it’s a product so well developed that it marked a new age in pc portable gaming. It’s by far the coolest tech gear I own. The way I can easily stream from my Xbox or PC with zero delay it’s just mind blowing. The amount of games you can play on it the ergonomics the battery life the smell coming from the vent… the case the track pads the user interface…, everything is just smoothly developed the steam deck is a solid gaming icon. This is not for casuals, casuals go buy a switch.
Ah, a fellow connoisseur! 🙌 Man, I think it's one of the best overall, beaten only by FighterZ and the Tenkaichi series! An absolute gem, and a shame it's always overlooked. Runs great with the 60 FPS game patch in RPCS3!
@@CGD.Studio I have a story to tell you, when I was a kid and lived in a small town, I did not even have a computer, I went into some cafe and there I searched up dragon ball game, and the trailer for burst limit came, I was blown away, I still remember the feeling, the intro of burst limit that shows up cruising in a cloud, is so good, I literally felt that I was flying, at that time I had no idea what's even is a PS3 etc, I just dreamt of playing the game, and after 10 years from that day, I cleared an entrance exam with very good marks and got my dream college, the first thing I asked my parents was a PS3 and I ordered Burst Limit, I enjoyed the game so much, teared up a bit, finally my dream was complete, so this game means a lot to me.
@herrogamer2606 man, that's so wholesome, love it. 🥲 My roots are similar, I started emulating Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden (SNES) back in 2003, and I always ended up finding a way to play each and every single DBZ game, but Burst Limit was the one that got away, and it always pained me cause it looked the most amazing, like a souped up Budokai 3. And I've only now started playing it after, what, 11 years or something. Nothing like a little DBZ to bring you straight back to those careless childhood days (hopefully careless, not everyone has that luxury). RIP Akira Toriyama, what a shame. :/ I'm honestly really happy for you. If only today's games had that old school, nostalgia quality to them, as opposed to being open world cash grabs with ray tracing and a billion side quests.
@@CGD.Studio I agree with you so much especially on the fact that today's game no longer has any soul in them, although I got to play burst limit after like 10 years but it's not the only dbz game I played, my childhood is filled with emulating gba games like buus fury(prob my fav, ahh the ost), Dragonball advanced adventure , supersonic warriors and more, I actually am playing goku's legacy 2 gba on steam deck, it's soo good, back in the day I only played buus fury out of the trilogy, first part is way too damn hard tho 🤣.
Oh man, those GBA RPGs were fire. 😁 Glad we can now emulate them on even a budget smartphone. Look into a Miyoo Mini or an Anbernic if you're looking for that sort of thing! They're pretty cheap (if bought from AliExpress) and are way more amazing than they look! 😁
I have 64GB one, put a 1TB ssd, some 512GB sd cards, screen protector, and case... doing more than fine as if. Sure, there's no discussion that the OLED has many upgrades compared to the LCD, but none is major and don't really change the way you use it. Don't let FOMO get you.
Personally, I utilize the SD in a handheld state when either the games are 360-era games, locked at ~7 Watts, or pre-2013 games. More modern games I play docked with the occasional 90ish minute stretches when I'm hanging out with my wife and kids elsewhere in the house. This gives me the flexibility to keep up with what I feel is relevant while spending what little time I have multitasking and spending time with my family. If it was a tad smaller and lighter, akin to the Nintendo Switch with the same current specs, this would be my Ideal handheld. I find myself continuously drawn to the switch though, because of the ease of use, and great battery life. Honestly, I wouldn't be averse to a "Steam Deck Lite" I've got other handhelds, but they are primarily advertised as emulation handhelds. I would be tickled pink if Valve announced a budget-friendly version of the deck and created a "lite-verified" section in the store.
Ah, yeah, a Steam Deck Lite would absolutely be amazing! The Switch Lite and PS Vita are my personal favorites, nothing beats portability. You can lug them around with ease and they take up virtually no space at all. Severely underrated.
Subbed, you speak really well and your points are direct. can tell you have a passion for this. Very unbiased, thank you. PS, i'm also a fan of smelling fumes/freshly unboxed games XD
The biggest draw for me is the being able to pick up/put down a game at any time. I have been making my way through my steam backlog since getting one, stuff that I never had to energy to play after working at my desktop. I might get a OLED at some point but the LCD is just fine for now.
Recently went on sale, for a very good price, act fast because it’s essentially a clearance, they are phasing out the 64 GB, and the 512 GB LCD versions, sold some of my cs skins and to pick up the 512 gb lcd.
After getting a Steam Deck, I don’t care if Sony released another handheld or not. I finally bought Final Fantasy VII Remake and Uncharted 4 for it from Steam’s spring sale, and I think Sony exclusives are coming to an end unless it’s coming from Nintendo since they’ve always been the strongest with first-party games since many third-parties started ditching them at making AAA titles since the N64. Steam Deck has officially become my favorite gaming device of all-time and arguably a top 5 purchase ever for me after owning it a month. I’ll have it over my modded PS Vita which I’ve owned for nearly 7 years. With all that said, I do have problems with it almost daily. Sometimes it crashes because of an update. Or maybe the keyboard won’t pop up. Yet, I can accept all of it because I only got it for $250 and it’s the 512 LCD. I got it for the same price as a used Switch OLED. I’ll be keeping my Steam Deck strictly for the PS2/GameCube/Wii emulation and the occasional AAA title once ported for PC. I could care less if I can never emulate Xbox 360 and PS3 on it because I find their libraries boring. My favorite AAA game on my Steam Deck so far is 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag which I bought for my Switch Lite back in October 2022. That game can also feel redundant but it holds my attention longer from the gameplay and the Caribbean scenery is beautiful. I’m still f*cking amazed by the Steam Deck. This was the device that really brought me back into gaming. I have a modded PSP, modded Vita, Switch Lite, and I emulate games on my Android smartphones. I also have an iPhone SE 2022 to play popular indie games found on other platforms. But it’s the Steam Deck that really brought me back from my gaming hiatus that lasted for about 17 years. The last time I really gamed on a home console was when I beat Twilight Princess on my Wii and rented and beat Metal Gear Solid 3 and God of War on my PS2 way back in 2007. After that, my focus was more into smartphones after the iPhone was announced. I only became a casual gamer playing games like Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies and Cut the Rope on my launch day iPhone 4. Steam Deck is my GOAT! I’m aware it’s not the strongest PC handheld out there. ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and Legion Go are more powerful. But I don’t want to play every single game out there because I’m not the biggest fan of many AAA modern games from Gen 7-9. So I don’t really need all that power. As long as I can play FF7R and Uncharted 4 on the go and they’re buttery smooth for the most part, I’m happy. *Steam* *Games* *(10)* Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Batman: Arkham Asylum Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham Knight DuckTales: Remaster Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Shenmue III Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Yakuza 0 Technically, 11 games since Uncharted is a two-fer. But I mainly bought it for The Thief’s End. I guess no God of War and Red Dead Redemption II for me. Then I got 10 games each for the PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Wii. May add another 10 for the Dreamcast since I’m considering putting those games back. Whatever console that I enjoyed owning that my Vita can’t emulate, I’ll put it in the Deck. Street Fighter II: SCE (Genesis) 10. Super Street Fighter II (MAME) 11. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 12. Final Fantasy X I could afford a ROG Ally as many go for under $400 in OfferUp and it’s the Z1 Extreme version. It’s arguably the most returned device at Best Buy. But I hate Asus and Windows. I also don’t care for most modern games since Gen 7, so if my Deck can’t emulate PS3 games like Ally could because of its aging Zen 2/RDNA 2, I don’t care. And many of these Windows PC handhelds will get replaced every year. Steam Deck is all the power I ever need as long as it emulates PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Wii really well and it does. Then toss in the occasional AAA title released on Steam from Gen 7-9. It can play every single generation of video games.
Is t emulating illegal unless you download it directly from physical cartridge? Device to do that for disks don’t exist. I don’t want to end up in prison like that guy Nintendo went after
Beautiful write-up. Glad you're enjoying your Deck that much! Couldn't agree more! Also, the PS Vita slaps even today. What a device, so ahead of its time.
Saw the refurbed 256 gbs were really low priced so I figured Id snag one to join the steam deck crowd! spent so many points on the customizations may as well try it out xD
I absolutely love my Steam Deck. It has completely changed how I play video games. My only complaint is how Linux gets in the way for Non-Steam stuff. You can get it to work but it can be pretty fiddly. Everything else about it is basically perfect in my eyes.
The biggest issue with steam deck is that it does not get sold worldwide It's really frustrating that you can buy one in Sweden and not Norway for instance, even though the two countries are right next to each other.
Yeah, that's a missed opportunity for sure. And as far as I know they're horrendously overpriced in Scandinavia, too, which makes it even worse. That being said, if you're traveling abroad, you can easily snag one for "cheap" in any EU country. I bought, like, two LCD models and one OLED in Hungary and I don't even speak the language. Some sellers ghost you, sure, but a surprising number of folks respond to me. They want to sell their devices just as much as I want to buy them. 😁
For Game pass, I assume that will require a Windows install. So is it just streaming component, or do you get the full PC functionality that comes with GP Ultimate?
Hi Ghost! Yes, as far as I know, you still have to install Windows in order to play Game Pass games (unless someone came up with a brand new workaround, which I doubt). Nope, it's not streaming, you're literally getting the full GP Ultimate functionality! Cloud saves and everything. :)
just ordered an og 512gb steam deck cause I got it refurbed from valve for $386/shipped. not bad, even the regular rog ally is more expensive. I got an okay outdated gaming pc but this will be a great compliment.
You mean the on-screen keyboard skin? 😁 I think that's definitely included. As for the carrying bag, I'm not sure if the 512GB LCD model had a special case. It's been a while. I know the higher spec'd OLED model has a better case, but the one included with the LCD model is still great, nothing to complain about whatsoever!
I got the ally for 400 used , perfect condition and its amazing, exp game streaming is amazing.... but today for 300 im getting my first steam deck, im excited
You're gonna love it! It's the ultimate Steam Deck experience. 😁 And you won't have to worry as much about battery life which is one heck of a plus, in addition to the jaw-dropping display and lower fan noise.
I think it's wonderful in terms of versatility and price. This is the main reason I think people should consider buying it. Because it allows you to do so much unlike Switch and it's incredible. Perfect for emulations and indie gaming
LCD is about 95% as good as OLED model. For me, about 80% of the OLED improvement is in battery life, I get almost 8 hours streaming from my desktop. There is actually something I find pleasant about the LCD model screen. The OLED looks beautiful, but can almost have too much contrast and vibrancy in some scenarios. I bring the LCD model on trips since I have the matte screen. I also load up a bunch of party games on the LCD so it doesn't have a bunch of RPGs, etc. always installed. The OLED stays at home and I mostly stream to it
Pretty much, yeah. The battery life is it's biggest selling point. OLED's amazing, but if the game's good and if you're enjoying yourself, then it all fades into the background.
Great video! Do you see yourself sticking to consoles (Xbox) for your triple A games or potentially moving over to pc? I’m in this weird position where I have a beefy pc, steam deck oled, laptop and ps5 and seem to prefer using my ps5 the most for game, especially triple A ones
Thank you Ali! Absolutely! I'm not going back to PC gaming any time soon. 😅 I mean, I've gamed on both for over 20 years, and they both have their benefits, but the ease of use that a console provides, it's just unmatched. Man, you grab a controller, and you're "in it," you're gaming. It's so seamless, so user friendly. I find that whenever I play anything on my PC I start drifting away, I start Alt-tabbing, checking things, I'm getting Discord notifications, Slack, Telegram, all that stuff. I get distracted, and I hate that. It's not a weird position at all! Your PS5 provides you with everything you need: impressive graphics, stellar performance, and the ease-of-use that trumps any PC or laptop. "It just works." I also think that - and this is an unpopular opinion among the "PC Maste Race" crowd - as you grow older, as obligations and responsibilities start piling up, you have less and less time to game, and you need as few "points of friction" as humanly possible. If I power up a Windows-based device and there's a system update, or if my GPU drivers are outdated, or if my temps are getting out of control, I'm done, I'm not getting anything else done that night, it's like a rabbit hole with no end. Sorry for the wall of text. 😅 Welcome to the channel!
@@CGD.Studio Thank you so much for your message. This is extremely helpful and funny enough, you've basically stated how I've been feeling lately. I've re-read it a couple of times to felt like "wow, are you me?" haha. Great content! keep up the good work and once again, appreciate your reply!
Hi CGD, I really enjoyed your commentary about the ROG ALLY and the problem with tech UA-camrs and Fomo, I had a quick question about the steam deck. So I'm kind of in a weird spot, I've been a Nintendo guy all my life, I had a gaming laptop but it broke and right now I have a new Nintendo 3ds xl, xbox 360 and a switch lite. Most of my money that I make goes towards college, would it be advisable to hold off on a steam deck and just wait till the next iteration or should I sell my 3ds xl and my switch lite and games to buy a steam deck? Thanks Again for reading my comment!
Hello hello! Thank you for watching! 🙌 Glad you enjoyed it! Eh, not sure, to be honest. You know what's my most used handheld device? The Switch Lite. It's so portable, so light, it has very solid battery life, and it has all the games I want it to play. That's the thing with FOMO: people love talking about these devices but it all depends on which games you play. Most of the titles I'm into are available on the Switch as well, and it can actually fit any pocket. And I don't have to think about anything: it just works. Stupidly underrated system. I think you should definitely sell the 3DS XL if you've played everything you want on it, it still holds its value quite well on the second-hand market. What else do you want to play? Do you have those games on Steam? Do you want to run Windows on it? If you can buy a used Steam Deck for less than €300 then that'd be a great investment overall, and you'd get everything you need for a very, very reasonable price. It's unbeatable. It might not have all the bells and whistles of later releases, but it still offers like 75% of the experience. Heck, I would suggest buying an Xbox Series S and subscribing to Game Pass. You can find one for a bit less than €200 used which is insane. Incredible little device, also underrated by the "PC Master Race" crowd because it can't render games at 16K, 500 Hz.
Funny You mentioned the 3ds xl, I just recently got it I think a year or so, I modded that one so I can play any 3ds game I want, I have mostly physical pokemon games and I primarily use the 3ds during my commute between classes since it's so small and easier to carry around. I'm usually in school until the afternoon so it's easier to be able to whip out the 3ds and play a few rounds. I'm kind of attached to my 3ds because I had one during childhood so I wouldn't be comfortable selling it. I don't have a lot of games on my steam library as I don't use steam as much and really the only game I would want to play on the steam deck would be like cyberpunk and Spiderman ps4. But I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment
No worries, I'm here to help. 🙌 If those are the kinds of games you want to play, you should definitely wait for the Steam Deck 2 or Ally 2 - in my opinion. The Ally 2 especially because it'll be able to draw more power and give you a higher and (most likely) more consistent FPS. Those games *are* playable on the current generation of hardware, but you have to accept numerous limitations and play on lowered settings, use FSR, etc. At best it looks pretty darn good, at worst it looks like a pixelated mess. 😅 To some people that's totally fine. I personally don't like it. It's kind of a disservice to both the game and the player. It really varies from one game to the next, to be fair, some run great, but the point still stands. Think about that Series S, if you don't mind playing at home/your dormroom. It's an incredible device, and Game Pass will give you more games than you can handle. 😁
Steam made 500 compromises and nailed the balance. And then they worked their butts off with updates and support.
Crap, I wish that opening line was mine. 😂 Couldn't agree more!
well i can t wait for a steamdeck 2. Most likely will have a strix point apu with 16 cores.
@AljoschaSINNLOS Definitely worth waiting for! 🙌
I think more of it as console in this case (even if it is a PC under the hood)
@@markdebruyn1212yeah, since steam deck has its own OS and their own platform to purchase games, despite windows can access it too
Switch games are insanely optimized for the switch's specific hardware. The steam deck simply runs PC games, which aren't optimized for the steam deck's specific hardware. It will get outdated way more quickly than the switch.
@bj0urne plus it didn't sell a bajillion units like the Switch did so there's less of an incentive.
"It smells amazing", Love that you added that.
Man, I've been smelling it for two years straight. If Valve ever makes it into a perfume I'll gladly drown in it! Smells like... happiness?
Reminds me of when people were apparently tasting Switch cartridges. Like, excuse me??
Never wanted to try it out personally, not a fan of licking things that shouldn't be licked. 😅
It smells like a new vhs tape after you put it in the vcr. I’m not sure if you are old enough to remember that new vhs smell or not.😅
lol
Black thumbnail & back ground, is something new and unique, you have earned a sub by being different, cheers.
Thank you brother, really appreciate it! Yeah, it really stands out among all the surprised pikachu faces and neon colors. 😄
got the LCD and still love it, it’s a reminder and a special place dear to me. I was those customers that had to wait months & months during the pandemic, and it feels fulfilling to finally have one. I play Tekken 8 online on it and it’s a blast! one day I’ll get an OLED but for now I’m good!
Hello, 64 one ?
I'm hesitate ... 64 313€ vs 512 400€. Thanks !
@@Xennnos512 LCD will give you permanent matte glass on the screen and mute the color little bit whilst you can change to 512 ssd later on 64 GB version
@@haysen123 Hello, thank you for your opinion. I took the 512 3 weeks ago. I am happy !
Btw, my colleague Christopher wrote a bunch of amazing guides for the Steam Deck, you can check them out here:
www.gamersdirector.com/category/steam-deck/
And good luck with the reconstruction, don't let it bring you down, man.
@@RandomFandomOfficial It's just highly unlikely that by the time that would happen, I wouldn't have upgraded to a Steamdeck 2.
Oof couch co-op with two Steam Decks, love it. 😄
Which colour settings is the best for LCD model ?
@@CGD.Studio Agreed. Plus you get all the Nintendo first party games and the Switch is a beast when it comes to battery life. I definitely and not surprised the Steam Deck is holding its value.
You're going places. Mark my words. I'm subscribing
Aw, thank you! Really appreciate it!
I just subscribed too 💯
I have the OG Deck and I've just purchased the oled one 😊
The initial goal was to sell the current one and now I've found myself in a spot where I'm looking for excuses to keep both.
Sell me the LCD one 😂

Thank you friend! 🙌
I’m definitely thinking about picking up a SteamDeck LCD for a first time handheld pc knowing it can run AAA and AA is good because I really want it to play ps2 games on the go
@Lurkin63rd You're gonna love it!
Wait, $400 for the 64GB LCD model? 🤔 That's a bit high, don't you think?
@CGD.Studio sorry it'd 350. I meant $400 with a 500gb u3 a2 SD card. I'm probably gonna spend $450 total for the 64gb lcd and a 1tb u3 a2 SD card and maybe anti glare screen protector.
Bought the limited edition OLED for my brother on christmas and the only thing im truly envious of is the weight distribution on it, it doesnt actually weigh much less than the LCD but somehow manages to feel so much lighter and comfortable when holding it by the grips
Keep up your good work, it is amazing to listen to you ♥
Thank you, really appreciate it! 🙌
Would love a video on how you recommend optimising the LCD steam deck. Plus a video comparing the OLED to OCD
Steam deck is so good
There's a reason gameboy sweeped sega game gear of the map

We're all so busy talking about the latest and greatest things that it's easy to get caught up in all the FOMO. But the OG Steam Deck still kicks ass!
Amazing quality content! I just ordered the 512gb LCD for $300 on sale.
Thank you, friend! 🙌 That's an amazing deal, I'm sure you'll love it!

"It doesn't have any unique selling feature at this time..."
Uh, yeah it does.
Dude… wtf… how can you have just 3 videos out???? You are absolutely amazing…
Thank you Naranek, really appreciate it! :)
I bought mine as I’m mainly a horror gamer checked out the steam deck store loads of great horror games to play
I recently bought a refurbished one & it’s awesome 😊
You're running windows on your deck...meanwhile the Deck's progress with Steam OS and Proton made me finally drop Windows on my gaming PC and move to Linux.
Totally get that. Sadly I'm a filthy Game Pass exploiter. 😅 Almost none of my games are on Steam, so Windows is basically the only option.
Keep it up. I think the Steam Deck OLED is the best handheld(if you have the budget, if not get the OG). Remember me when you get famous.
Thank you friend, honestly! I will, this is a grassroots kind of thing, so the people watching and commenting mean a ton, they're not randomers "used" to generate millions of dollars. :)
And yeah, the OLED kicks ass! For $300 though, this one's just spectacular.
I've got the OG Steam Deck and totally agree with you, if I was to sell it in future would probably get the Ally or Ally 2 when it comes out.
Personally I'm waiting for AMD's Strix Point. If we can get 3050 like performance in a 15-25W envelope, that'd be revolutionary!
I like how you broke it down. nice one
Glad you agree, John! Yeah, rational takes aren't exactly all that popular nowadays. 😅
Man, great content, can’t agree more with the message AND the delivery is on point. You got yourself a new subscriber.
Thank you brother, really appreciate it! 🙌
Hi came across your video and what you saying makes a ton of sense. Just purchased a 64gb lcd and a 512gb A2 sd card for a steal.
May it serve you long and well friend! 🙌
Amazing video! I bought a used Steam Deck LCD 512GB on eBay, can't wait to receive it. Would love to hear some of your games recommendations.
Yeah, pretty much the best device for gaming and emulation for the asking price. 😁 Worth every penny!
Do the other handhelds have touch-capacitive sticks for the gyro?
Refreshing to see a tech reviewer with a clear head on his shoulders! Just because the OLED exists doesn't mean the LCD isn't still amazing and should no longer be recommended. When you can find one used or refurbished under $300 it's an absolute steal.
Thank you, Pixel! 🙌 Imagine that, someone *not* trying to shove the latest thing down your throat to get affiliate revenue. 😅 Scandalous!
Duuude, that's an amazing deal, congrats! 🙌 May it serve you long and well!
Man, for that kind of money, selling it would be a shame! A steal! May it serve you for the years to come!
I think about the hype on the new edition but my original is so good that I can't front on it so hastily. Been playing with it still after the honeymoon phase. Great hardware, even better software. Must buy.
steamOS is near perfect, it keeps getting better too
30 year console gamer, but got one for emulation now to downsize my physical collection. Its been an amazing purchase, also picked up a few games like noita and terraria. So worth it
Scored the 512gb anti-glare LCD for $350 during a Steam sale.
OLED is obviously better, but for me, better screen & battery isn’t worth an extra $200. LCD deals are insane.
great review bro 🔥 love my deck, got it for 330$ for 512 gb+512gb sd card from a second hand market insane deal
Thank you Kiril! 🙌 It sure is, congrats! 😁
I got the 256gb lcd before it became the base model. Still worth it. Oled is good but I'm not upgrading until the deck 2 comes out.
For real I bought a 64gb lcd model and upgraded the ssd to 512gb. With the games I’ve bought on steam I won’t be touching the Oled until sd2 comes out.
I really like how you set up your vids and wordplay!! 🎉
Thank you friend! 🙌 Trying my best!
Watching this while playing ff7 rebirth on my deck oled 😊 subbed
You can always create a dual boot setup and pick and choose the OS depending on your needs and preferences. 😁 That being said, Windows has gone down the drain over the last few years (and then some), so maybe getting accustomed to Linux isn't that bad of an idea. 😅
@@CGD.Studio not sure your answer applies to my commment lol.. Im using chiaki4deck to stream ps5
Ah, sorry, not sure where that comment was supposed to go.
Just got a LCD steam deck locally for $300 usd. Haven’t bought a steam game for 3 plus years and finally started trying new games.
the 0:51 part just hilarious haha
The 1TB variant I think was around 1K while the ROG Ally is at 999$
Used LCD version is around 600~700 (in local currency ofc)
Yeah, they're always focusing on the latest and "greatest" things, almost to a fault. No one takes price-to-performance into consideration, it's awful. :/
Deck and rog are same price and go is too I think. But I don’t think windows is ready for handheld. Plus rog kills sd cards cause they placed slot right next to exhaust so im goin with oled deck for it’s reliability
@@CGD.Studiothe longer battery life is what I want. If it was price to performance you’d get rog on sale right now for same price as lcd steam deck
Ah Burst Limit, best PS3 DBZ Game hands down, I was actually playing it on my steam deck the other day.
Thank you Ryan! 🙌 Really appreciate it! ♥️
The biggest draw for me is the being able to pick up/put down a game at any time. I have been making my way through my steam backlog since getting one, stuff that I never had to energy to play after working at my desktop. I might get a OLED at some point but the LCD is just fine for now.
Vent fumes smells like a brand new VHS tape after being used in the VCR and you rewind it before taking it out.

Yakuza 0
Technically, 11 games since Uncharted is a two-fer.

I could afford a ROG Ally as many go for under $400 in OfferUp and it’s the Z1 Extreme version.
You can emulate xbox 360 and ps3 games ! Xbox 360 is Xenia and ps3 should already be there if you get emudeck
12 more hours until mine arrives! I'm super excited to own one!
You'll love it, I'm sure! Just make sure to switch the display/colors to Vivid and you'll be good to go. ;)
The biggest issue with steam deck is that it does not get sold worldwide
It's really frustrating that you can buy one in Sweden and not Norway for instance, even though the two countries are right next to each other.
This gave me the courage to use my savings to buy a steam deck LCD. I've wanted it for so long and I am so excited to get it. Thank you.
Glad I was able to help! 🙌 You'll love it, I'm sure!
I installed windows 10 on my Samsung a2 sd card. It’s amazing what this thing can do.
Awesome Stuff 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you, friend! 🙌
I was so happy when the OLED SD came out because I was able to pickup a outstanding condition 512gb LCD model for $240 😄
I have mine for 2 years and I still love it
You made me pull the trigger, 313,- euros for the 64gb. WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
May it serve you long and well! 🙌
just ordered an og 512gb steam deck cause I got it refurbed from valve for $386/shipped. not bad, even the regular rog ally is more expensive. I got an okay outdated gaming pc but this will be a great compliment.
A PC can always be upgraded, but a Steam Deck is a killer supplementary device for traveling, commutes, and just chilling in bed or on the couch! 🙌
You nailed it! Here in the US, I picked up a refurbished Steam Deck for $240 at GameStop last month. It was a steal! I use it every day at work!
Oh man, that's a steal, bravo! 🙌 Be careful, your boss might steal it. 😂
Can you still get the exklusive Keyboard and the carrying bag for the 512 LCD Modell?
You mean the on-screen keyboard skin? 😁 I think that's definitely included. As for the carrying bag, I'm not sure if the 512GB LCD model had a special case. It's been a while. I know the higher spec'd OLED model has a better case, but the one included with the LCD model is still great, nothing to complain about whatsoever!
I got the ally for 400 used , perfect condition and its amazing, exp game streaming is amazing.... but today for 300 im getting my first steam deck, im excited
May it serve you long and well! 🙌
I got sd lcd and i love it until now, still playing games with it, upgraded it to 1tb and installed windows, while waiting for sd2
just ordered my OLED SD, this is going to be my first handheld pc and i’m so hyped
You're gonna love it! It's the ultimate Steam Deck experience. 😁 And you won't have to worry as much about battery life which is one heck of a plus, in addition to the jaw-dropping display and lower fan noise.
Got mine 2 days ago and knocking out ps exclusives i never got to play! My gf tired of me showing her. Best thing i bought since the series x
@@homer-wn5cu I keep talking to my girl about it too LOL
I think it's wonderful in terms of versatility and price. This is the main reason I think people should consider buying it. Because it allows you to do so much unlike Switch and it's incredible. Perfect for emulations and indie gaming
nice video i sold my LCD waiting for OLED this weekend
Oh you're gonna love it! A serious improvement. 🙌
Just bought the 256GB LCD model that came with 512GB sd card for $240. Was a no brainer for me! Can’t wait till it arrives
You'll love it! For that price it's unbeatable. May it serve you long and well!
Great vid, subbed 👍
Thank you Buzz, appreciate it!
To some people that's totally fine. 😁
Ive had my deck for like 4 days already, and thats what i noticed.. the smell ❤❤❤😍
Enjoy it, friend, that's the smell of childhood and happiness! 🙌
Passionate !
The deck is awesome, without doubt
