I worked 7 days a week in my very low paying job to be able to afford a steam deck- FINALLY ordered one last night! I don’t need oled! I’m super excited!
I bought the OLED steam deck but I was thinking about getting the LCD because of the price. I have a switch OLED and I can’t really even tell the difference with my OG switch to be honest. One reason I bought the OLED was because of the more storage, memory.
My deck is coming tomorrow, I'm so excited to put my hands on this beauty. Thanks Brother for such a detailed video, now I know I have not made a bad choice
Dude, I’m about half way through this video and I’m already like “FINALLY! Thank god!” I have no idea what your online presence is like. Never seen one of your videos before, but if you’re not making a lot of content just like this, you should be. This video has already been a major breath of fresh air. Too many people out there just can’t seem to get to the point. Your video is no filler. They speak as though we all have PhD’s in computer science or something. You give it to us straight. Straight, no filler. You have no idea how much a guy like me appreciates it. I hope your channel grows in popularity if you’re making videos like this - no frills. So if it helps at all, you just gained a subscriber.
i’m sticking with my OG steam deck as well. Reason being is I finally got it modded and tuned to run everything I needed to and can’t fathom having to redo all of that again. Plus, I was part of the queue group when it first dropped and waited months for my number to come up so I’m going to enjoy it.
You can physically transfer your orignal SSD to the OLED or even clone the SSD, both of which still allow you to retain all of your data without any hiccups.
@@gg_sheed no, mods referring to software mainly. I have all my emulators (yuzu, game pass, ps remote play etc...) All tuned and running sound. Took me a while to troubleshoot and tinker it all out.
I’m currently looking into getting a steam deck. I already own a Switch Oled and I love it. But there’s certain games I want to play that I can’t get on Switch or I feel it’s too pricey. You mentioned that the difference between the LCD and OLED are minor but for me, something as small at the larger bezels on the lcd can make or (in my case) break the gaming experience for me. Ohh and the fans! Thank you for pointing that out! The loud noise would’ve drove me insane lol. So considering I don’t have a steam deck, the OLED version is the better option for me! I can’t wait till Christmas!! This was a great video! Thank you!
I just ordered the lcd 256 refurb. 340 total works with me. I don’t get much time to game anymore besides in bed at the end of a day so I’ll be happy with something over my phone
Same reason I got the oled switch, the difference between lcd and oled is huge, hdr and colours that pop make a better game experience. Only thing stopping me buying the other handhelds right now is the lack of oled.
Really worth it for me. I saw a console reseller that posted a month old OLED open for trading plus cash. Traded my LCD and never looked back. Still love my LCD but the OLED was just much better, especially the bezels and battery life.
I keep thinking about selling/trading in my 512GB LCD SD, but I'm also pretty happy with it and figure I'll just wait for the SD 2, even if that means 2025/2026. If Valve had a trade-in program, I would have done it already.
OLED is bae, and Im a full blown Linux guy (Desktop, Laptop, HTPC, NAS), but one downside I see for non-Linux peeps; is OLED is missing Windows drivers still. So if you're someone looking at getting a Deck, and want to put Windows on it, then LCD is your only option atm. While you can still attempt to install Windows on the OLED, it has no drivers yet for audio, BT, and WiFi. Now if you're like me and have zero reason to use Windows bloatware (especially on a handheld), then OLED is the way to go! But honestly if you want Windows, then get any other handheld instead.
I'm happy to be upgrading to OLED as I can't go away from it from my main PC rig. Got a friend buying my OG LCD for $350 so I'm only paying half of it.
Thanks for the video! I gotta say, it IS tempting to upgrade. I play my old Deck at night when I’m in bed with the husband, and because the light from it bugs him a bit, I burrow under the covers to play. And that thing gets SO hot, so fast. 🥵 Even a few degrees would make a big difference! The quieter fan would probably help keep me out of trouble too 😅 It’s just a lotttt of money, considering I haven’t even had my current one for a year-it took them forever to make enough to ship out to everyone! 😐
bought lcd deck should get this week, sure oled is nicer but at the twice the cost its just not worth it. It will run my games the same anyway so better save that extra for games or something.
That, wait for a good sale and sell the LCD then or save it towards SD 2 😊 I did the same. I'm fine without OLED. I prefer LCD if the panels are good quality. OLED seem to cause eye issues for many and i'd rather not risk anything 🤷🏻♂️ Ally is also on the menu though! Love that screen and freedom to play all games.
I mean... its the same cost as the previous mid and top tier LCD deck models. If anything, its more worth it since you're getting more for that same price.
@darkknight097 wdym hahaha yeah oled version is still great is the same as the of price of lcd, but ur logic makes no sense, since 1. It's a while since og launch and a lot has happened in the market since, and you literally get the almost same device for half the price, in terms of bang for buck(!) its obv. Not "more" worth it to get the oled.
@swingkid9347 I have an OLED. My wife has the 64gb deck with a 1tb upgrade. So I have a direct comparison in my hands. Just the HDR OLED panel is enough to justify it being worth the price to me compared to what was spent for the LCD. But thats not considering all the other smaller changes that add up. Like a more quiet fan while remaining cooler. Being able to go almost an hour longer on battery when playing the same game. Analog sticks are nicer, no slipping.
Same thing happened to me, i bought the LCD a week before the OLED came out, i felt bad but anyways i can't justify buying the OLED with just a few difference, by few i didn't mean its a small difference, its a bit of a big difference: OLED, Battery and a bit faster memory and higher refresh rate, but to me this is still close to the LCD and not a major upgrade, which is not reasonable to spend an extra, but i am willing to spend an extra if its a "Steam Deck 2" which i'm sure it will have major upgrade, maybe edge-less or slimmer screen, better battery or higher, newer more powerful APU and faster memory... For now i'll have to be happy with what i have and wait for the next iteration. Very nice video explanation! Thanks
The Steam Deck OLED is the definitive version of the original SteamDeck. If you want a SteamDeck, the OLED is definitely the way to go, but if you already have the LCD, then you should just wait for the SteamDeck 2.
I loved your review! I’m thinking about getting a Steam Deck but I’m not much of a handheld gamer, I’ve hardly ever even used my Switch in portable mode, but I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on the Deck. 😊
Great video! I'm on the verge buying the OLED. I had pre-ordered the steam deck when they released it and the screen colour was always something that bothered me. Never considered the battery life that way. The main point why I'm considering the switch is the screen.
Thanks for the video. I went ahead and ordered the OLED. I really like the screen on my Switch OLED, and I will be going PC/Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch moving forward for my gaming. I might get something like the Lenovo Go in the future for games that the Steam Deck can't play.
If they do a sale for the oled model let’s say a year or so from now then I would consider buying it, I was one of the few that thought the oled switch wasn’t worth the jump when I had the og launch switch but when I seen that beautiful oled screen, improved battery and small improvements like the audio and kick stand made me buy another switch.
Yea that would be great if they do another sale! I was thinking about upgrading my switch as well but I figured the steam deck oled was a better first option
I’ve had the LCD model for about 9 months with a few updates a cooler back plate new grips and screen protector and soon . A 1TB SSD SO MY NEXT UPGRADE WILL BE A ROG X WND OF this year but for those that on the market for one the LCD IS JUST FINE for the majority of people
For your battery test, was that comparing a new LCD model to a new OLED model? Or was the LCD older? If the LCD model is older, was battery age degradation taken into consideration?
I had preordered the LCD steamdeck before it was even released but im not a big gamer. I dont think getting the OLED would be worth it for me but thanks for letting me know im not missing out on too much!
Love it! I'm a Playstation gamer but I do have a small Steam library as well just not a very beefy laptop so most of my games are old/light. Lately I've been thinking about something like the PS Portal (for when my tv is occupied but I wanna be present in the room w/company) but.... dang when I can play my steam games, some pc games, stream my PS4/5 & Xbox games to the deck, enjoy an OLED screen, AND get track pads and four back buttons then who even needs the Portal?! I appreciate the well made videos man!
I bought the steam deck lcd with 64 gigs of storage. I replaced the storage with a 1 terabyte one. I would’ve bought the oled but I couldn’t financially. So I’m good with one I bought.
I just got mine on Saturday.. I went for the 1tb version. Already thinking of replacing that 1tb SSD with a 2tb though. For now though I got a 1tb SD card. This thing is super slick.
To be fair, I just bought the 64GB LCD version for €369 instead of having to pay €569 for the Oled version. I know it’s 512GB vs 64GB, but I was going to buy a microSD card anyway. Which I obviously did for €114 as I choose the 1TB version. I do understand and see the differences between the LCD and Oled screen itself, but I do not wish to pay so much more for something that I don’t value as much. I believe my choice is a very personal one and that many might disagree and charish the longer battery life(I don’t as I am always home and prefer handhelds). Anyway, GG_Sheed thank you for the informative video and for the confirmation that I made the correct choice(Steamdeck should arrive next week!)
I have the lcd model 64gb. Ive saved for the oled but im on the fence on buying it. The only reason i wanna upgrade is the battery life but i cant decide if i should spend 580 for the oled or just get a battery pack...
Like with any other device (cellphones included), if you think you still need to get more for your money and are having fun, don´t upgrade. You already own a fantastic device.
I would love to hear from you on how you set up your games while playing docked with the Steam Deck! I just cant figure it out! The res just sucks playing bigger games like Helldivers 2.
I’ve been loving the OLED so far! Honestly the biggest difference I’ve been noticing is the battery life. I don’t have to reach for my charger nearly as often
Am I right in thinking this is lighter too? I bought a second hand LCD and was underwhelmed with it, it was really laggy, boiling hot and really heavy. But I don’t wanna let my dream of owning a steam deck go so I thought the OLED might be more me!
I love your review But i just got a LCD Steamdeck 512Gb on the Steam Summersale for just 398 bucks your review is great but im gonna stick with the 512gb model it does its job its great and i dont regret buying it I'm pretty sure that the OLED is more than just perfect But I`m happy with the 512gb model You make awesome reviews and i`m pretty sure you make much more cool videos But that`s just my opinion. Have a great day :)
There's plenty of more differences including hdr 1000 nit brightness, 5-10 percent framerate increase because of faster ram and lower temps, improved haptics and a dedicated audio chip for better sound and takes strain off the cpu. I believe the deck OLED is the only handheld with full HDR so that's a big one.
Yes because essentially the main differences are battery and screen. If you’re playing docked you’re using a tv screen and it will be on charge so yes - lcd
For me its definitely has to be the OG SD, as majority of the time st gome, so csn just dock it. Even playing it on the Go it wouldn't be used as nuch Plus if rhey eventualy release a steam Deck 2, i could then upgrade.
@@jdharvey10 really depends your use scenario. If you really plan to use the devices daily. Stretching to base oled is definitely worth it. If you really gonna only play at home. They refurbished are on stock so you will be happy either way
Battery life is king. Apple and Nintendo get this. You need a minimum of 4-5 hours of game play. Carrying around extra batteries or keeping it plugged in defeats the purpose of a mobile device.
choosing between the Oled 512gb or LCD 64gb plus 1tb ssd,.the oled is $250 more expensive i’m not techy and i play mostly AAA games on my pc like gta v,rdr2, hogwarts legacy, gow, horizon,.i don’t know what to get and if oled will be alot better for the games i’m playing
I had steam deck used 373$ today 512gb even though i love oled after all my android phones with it but did i need to changed it into led i am actually wanted the steam as laptop not gaming because my laptop is 2013
Hi thanks for this great video! can steam deck run fallout 1, 2, 3, 4 and new vegas? I am a big fan of those games so I am planning to get portable device just so I can play them anywhere I go
I want OLED just for the quieter fans and battery life cause i hate when my devices are loud which most likely is because i played on PS4 for years and this air fryer was so loud and less i charge the better but i'm also always scared about the burn in of the OLED screen
Got lcd 64gb for 250 secound hand battery health 100% I can upgrade to 512gb, and it will make the price 300 Steam deck oled is about double the price Can't justify that 😅
There are some second hand steam deck oleds out there as well! But yea the lcd model will always be cheaper. In my opinion the battery life and screen alone justify like $100 at least
Bought my lcd as reading valve wouldn’t be releasing a new one about a month later a OLED was released I’m going to wait for the next model for bigger gains, valve really bought back handheld gaming and I think it’s going to explode 10 years time we will be playing aaa games at 120fps
That’s a great question! I honestly haven’t noticed any huge audio difference even tho they say the OLED is supposed to have better audio. From a portable device like this I think the speakers are decent overall. But I’m definitely not the best when it comes to what to look for in high quality audio
Don’t stop.

If you turn down refresh rate you'd reduce fan noise of OG SD 😊👌🏻
Have you been happy with the OLED so far?
I’ve been loving the OLED so far! Honestly the biggest difference I’ve been noticing is the battery life. I don’t have to reach for my charger nearly as often
Am I right in thinking this is lighter too? I bought a second hand LCD and was underwhelmed with it, it was really laggy, boiling hot and really heavy. But I don’t wanna let my dream of owning a steam deck go so I thought the OLED might be more me!
I love your review
But i just got a LCD Steamdeck 512Gb on the Steam Summersale for just 398 bucks
your review is great but im gonna stick with the 512gb model
it does its job its great and i dont regret buying it
I'm pretty sure that the OLED is more than just perfect
But I`m happy with the 512gb model
You make awesome reviews and i`m pretty sure you make much more cool videos
But that`s just my opinion. Have a great day :)
I found it used lcd steam deck 512gb for 400$ it is worth it ?
Hi mate,
Do you have the 512GB or the 1TB Oled version? 🤔🤔
I have the 512gb 😌
@@gg_sheed thnx. 👍
why has this channel not more subs???
Haha thanks! I’m just starting out so tryna get better with each video
It’s the screen and the frames for me. 360 era games almost all run @90fps while looking juicy af.
Def some nice differences you mentioned as well! I left them out cause I thought they were a bit minor but still important to me at least.
If I will use it more on dock mode should I get the lCD?
Yes because essentially the main differences are battery and screen. If you’re playing docked you’re using a tv screen and it will be on charge so yes - lcd
@@Monkeyz73 thank you!
For me its definitely has to be the OG SD, as majority of the time st gome, so csn just dock it.
Even playing it on the Go it wouldn't be used as nuch
Plus if rhey eventualy release a steam Deck 2, i could then upgrade.
I think the fan noise is probably what I love the most about the OLED tbh. I occasionally play without earphones and it's so silent man
For sure! The lcd fan was so distracting lol
Would i be better off buying a cheaper lcd steam deck or a brand new oled? Money is a bit tight at the moment
Like a second hand lcd model for half the price of the oled
@@jdharvey10 really depends your use scenario. If you really plan to use the devices daily. Stretching to base oled is definitely worth it. If you really gonna only play at home. They refurbished are on stock so you will be happy either way
Battery life is king. Apple and Nintendo get this. You need a minimum of 4-5 hours of game play. Carrying around extra batteries or keeping it plugged in defeats the purpose of a mobile device.
choosing between the Oled 512gb or LCD 64gb plus 1tb ssd,.the oled is $250 more expensive
i’m not techy and i play mostly AAA games on my pc like gta v,rdr2, hogwarts legacy, gow, horizon,.i don’t know what to get and if oled will be alot better for the games i’m playing
I was able to get over 800mb/s download speeds on my oled. Through ethernet cable and the valve dock
My oled arrives tomorrow! I can’t wait! So I have Xbox with some games and I’m excited to play console games. instead of using my iPad 3:15 Air 5
Nice!!! Yea the steam deck is more portable and capable than the iPad. Hope you have fun!
Did u get the 512 or 1tb model for the OLED?
I got the 512!
If the OLED goes on sale I might get it, but for now my LCD is adequate enough.
Wait, what’s the limited edition??
The limited edition has a transparent housing and cost a bit more. Heres a link to it: store.steampowered.com/sale/steamdeck_2023LE
Oh the oled looks very good but I have my first ever steam deck the LCD model I like it since I never have one as long it runs the same games 😅
I love my O.G SD ♥️
OG still kicking!
I had steam deck used 373$ today 512gb even though i love oled after all my android phones with it but did i need to changed it into led i am actually wanted the steam as laptop not gaming because my laptop is 2013
my only problem in lcd version is the battery life
Hi thanks for this great video! can steam deck run fallout 1, 2, 3, 4 and new vegas? I am a big fan of those games so I am planning to get portable device just so I can play them anywhere I go
Pretty sure it can if people play elden ring on it
Fire review!!
I want OLED just for the quieter fans and battery life cause i hate when my devices are loud which most likely is because i played on PS4 for years and this air fryer was so loud and less i charge the better but i'm also always scared about the burn in of the OLED screen
Burn in scares me a tiny bit too but I think as long as you dont only play one game and leave the screen on I think it should be fine
I'm indeed getting the Limited Edition when they release it.
Must be nice to be able to throw away money like that
The limited edition is 🔥🔥
@@collectiblesnrandomstuff544 I can sell you my 512gb and give you a 1tb micro sd for free. Just for 599 LOL
Man if you don't need your old steam deck I would really appreciate one 😭 That's my dream to have a console that I can use everywhere 🙏
Lol i sold mine already unfortunately!
So if I don’t have a steamdeck at all the obvious choice would be the oled right guys?
Definitely! If thats within your budget
Got my oled today better display, Longer battery, Less heat, Less fan noise, Slightly faster than lcd 😊
Can you make side by side screen color test between lcd with vibrant deck or latest valve update for more vibrant color and the oled ? Thank you
Maybe wait for the next edition.
I got the LCD 256GB New For $415 its coming the 27th 🎉
Let’s gooo!!!
You’re cool, I am sure you will make it 😊
Thank you!!
As tempting as the OLED is, I'm gonna wait for the SD2
You will wait like 2 years
@@kalcontentproduction I've got the LCD Steam Deck. I think that should hold me for a while.
am happy with the lcd version
Got lcd 64gb for 250 secound hand battery health 100%
I can upgrade to 512gb, and it will make the price 300
Steam deck oled is about double the price
Can't justify that 😅
There are some second hand steam deck oleds out there as well! But yea the lcd model will always be cheaper. In my opinion the battery life and screen alone justify like $100 at least
Battery duration from the original Nintendo Switch to the Switch v2 was gigantic!
Very true! You talking about the switch oled right?
@@gg_sheed I think he was talking the same significance with the Steam Deck LCD vs OLED
Bought my lcd as reading valve wouldn’t be releasing a new one about a month later a OLED was released I’m going to wait for the next model for bigger gains, valve really bought back handheld gaming and I think it’s going to explode 10 years time we will be playing aaa games at 120fps
What about audio?
That’s a great question! I honestly haven’t noticed any huge audio difference even tho they say the OLED is supposed to have better audio. From a portable device like this I think the speakers are decent overall. But I’m definitely not the best when it comes to what to look for in high quality audio
Has anyone ever had an issue with their steam deck.... When playing any games it crashes and takes you back to the home steam deck screen?
I'm good with my LCD model, the changes don't warrant the price for me, but that's just me
That’s totally cool !
