I hate that I've slowly become more interested in getting new hardware, tweaking stuff on it, and seeing how far I can push it than I am interested in playing games. I blame my steam deck cause I was never really into pc gaming before, but now w the SD I am constantly trying to find new things to test out with it. It sparked an obsession with tinkering and experimenting
Im at the complete opposite of the spectrum. Was always tinkering with my pc and now that i have a rog ally i just power on the thing play a game until it shut itself down on low battery and enjoy. Rince and repeat. Its awesome!
I also have the issue of buying too many games and then being overwhelmed with my options so it makes it hard to finish any of them.... or even make it past the first couple of levels without feeling like I should try something new and then never returning to it My backlog is insane and then on top of it the unfinished games is just as bad
I had one company ask me to send them a video before reviewing it to the public. Never worked with them again, however I had another company that wanted me to provide more videos after we only agreed to one video review and still randomly emails me. These companies are interesting to say the least.
For me, I have these items for playing games: Nintendo Switch (unmodded) Steam deck RG35XX H (going to replace it with the RG Cube XX, and give my bro the H to replace his original RG35XX) BeeLink GT King (my living room gaming system) Amazon Fire Stick 2nd gen And tbh, I havent played many games in my personal life like Bob said, and because of mental struggles lately, its been harder to do. So honestly, I equally have not played much on any of these. And even so, like he said, I have enjoyed tinkering than actually playing, and probably spent more time doing that than playing a game (also why I have some weird products to game on). Interesting how it can be that way. But part of the reason why I "upgraded" to the RG Cube XX is because I love Pico-8 so much I want a more dedicated device for that. It's been the "console" I have played the most in my recent years. So I believe soon I will use my Cube XX more. Past devices I had were Retroid Pocket 3+ & 4 Pro. I used 3+ a lot and was my first time getting into this stuff. then I used the 4 Pro for a bit to replace the 3+ till I found a Steam Deck for a really good deal. I did not need the 4 Pro and no one else I knew close needed it for my asking price. lol I also had a R36S, but quickly upgraded to the H soon after. Despite how I feel about games lately, I have been very adamant in supporting this stuff and getting people into emulation for preservation reasons. I have gotten a steam deck and ROG Ally 1z Extreme as gifts for some close friends. Anyway, sorry for the babble. In the end, if you just want all in one, I recommend the steam deck (more performance, do what Bob did and get an X with Bazite, pardon my lazy spelling). If you want portability, I recommend Anbernic RG XX line, and having those two would basically be complete for your needs. Boom lol Otherwise, dont have the addiction problem like I do LOLOL
Something worth looking into is syncthing. It's a little bit of a pain to set up, but once you do, your computer literally acts as a giant steam cloud for all your saves. For the devices that support it, that is. Which will be a lot of your handhelds, pc and etc.
I've actually gone in an extremely mid 2000s direction with my daily carry. I bring a MP3 Player, Flip Phone, modded 3DS, and Legend of Zelda Game & Watch everywhere. I use the flip phone because it is not distracting. I take the MP3 player because, well, I like listening to music (also, having my music on CD and ripping it to my MP3 player with iTunes is better than Spotify, IMO. No internet access required and I know that I legally own the music). I take the modded 3DS because its a small handheld and it runs SNES and GBA and DS and 3DS games, which is more than enough for playing on the train. Like, all the best Pokemon games are on Gameboy Advance or DS. Also A Link to the Past, Super Mario All Stars, almost every Fire Emblem game, its all there. Even PS1 games can be emulated (poorly, for the record) on a modded 3DS. Its good for fulfilling the desire to game (and like, there is a fairly active homebrew scene on itchio and stuff, so I can play fairly modern games on the GBA). And I take the Game & Watch because it is small and cute and the OG Legend of Zelda is actually one of my favorite pick up and play type of games, like it is basically a fully open world game. Also having Zelda 2 and Link's Awakening is a cool bonus, I guess
Faced with needing to upgrade (battery time), Sony leaving the US market, I'm very tempted to go dedicated devices, absolute minimum phone, but I'm concerned about getting the pet pics for my clients, I can't go dumb (maps and client app) and I think the camera (which would need quick exchange of photos with phone), HiFi & Odin mini2 put it over flagship budget. Although, I feel $999 isn't enough of a drop to downgrade to 256GB 1 V (last year's model). I already have flacs that I can run and wired IEM from my phone (Sony Xperia 1 III) . Disclaimer, I do own Anbernic RG SP, DS lite & flash cart, PSP, PS Vita. So one could make the argument against Odin 2 mini compensating for no longer having my SD 888 phone.
@@TheClyde1993 3DS runs them fine-- New 3DS runs them perfectly. IDK why Nintendo never did GBA Virtual Console or why SNES virtual console was only for the New 3DS. It mGBA and SNES9X run like a dream
@@washuai My flip phone is a Cat S22. Made by the same company that makes construction equipment. IDK why they decided to branch out from bulldozers and into the phone market. Anyway I bring up my specific model because it runs Android, so I can use Google maps and WhatsApp and stuff. The on-board storage is tiny (only 16GB) but it supports MicroSD cards if you want to store photos. And it only does 4G LTE. My SIM Card supports 5G so like, definitely a downgrade but the phone only cost $50 and it is really difficult to get distracted, so I prefer it.
For me it’s: 1. The Switch OLED (I love Nintendo games and there are no shortage of those especially with Online classics. Plus the battery life can’t be beat) 2. Steam Deck OLED (My third party/AAA backlog machine) 3. PS Portal (My Final Fantasy, AstroBot, and PS first party backlog machine)
I don't know about swapping out but moded handhelds run thier games the best since ofc, thats what they were made for lol. I have: - A moded 2ds xl for gba/ds/3ds games, - A moded vita/vitatv for ps1/psp/vita games, anything older then that i just run on anything but, - My go to travel with is the retroid flip, - Steamdeck is my go to for playing through my library at work and otherwise i'm contemplating getting an Odin device to run most things (but mainly ps2/3 and game cube), Finally - The switch with a retrodeck is what i used for those games (though getting a dumper is very tempting until the switch 2 comes out).
I've got a PC, Steam Deck, Switch, PS Vita, PSP, PSP Go, 3DS, RG35xx-h and Miyoo A30. The A30 goes with me everywhere. PC - power hungry games SD - indies Switch - Persona 5, Tears of the Kingdom The rest of them get occasional use, maybe twice a month.
We're not gonna talk about the OneXPlayer guys being like "we don't approve your review so you have to take it down!!!" We're just gonna let them do that?
bazzite on my 6800u gpd win 4 renewed my love of gaming. the friction that windows offers was just too much most of the time, and put me off all the 30-120 min gaming sessions i used to do. it got to the point that i basically wouldnt play pc games if i wasnt so excited for a game i could sit down and play it for 4+ hours in a sitting. the streamlined and no nonsense approach that steamOS has got me playing all those chill games, or indie games that are well suited to taking a break with, or to play while half watching a tv show. my one negative is that i cant play some of the AAA games i want like jedi survivor or ratchet and clank rift apart. i cant wait until the next gen headhelds start coming out and i can finally get one that fulfills all my high end gaming needs.
Wulff, as a long-time subscriber of yours, I just want to say I really like your content. Sometimes it’s about stuff that I’m not particularly into (like emulation-I like it, just haven’t tried it yet), but I still watch your videos because they’re really entertaining. They have a “mood” I enjoy. Keep up the great work! 👍🏻
That one frame per-second increase is due to how Linux vs Windows calculates Pi. Both OS' use different roundings of Pi which can cause some "issues" for example that extra one frame
The big thing that stopped me from moving to Bazzite full time is that the wifi performance on Linux is so much slower than on Windows, at least on the Ally X. It made a noticeable difference installing games or Moonlight streaming.
In the order of purchase: Switch, Switch lite, 2DS, PS4, PS3, NDS, PS Vita, New 3DS XL, WiiU, Miyoo Mini Plus, Steam Deck. I fell in love with handheld gaming wirh the Switch lite (not modded) and the PS Vita (with CFW). I do most of my gaming today on Steam Deck, and for Nintendo exclusives on the Switch lite.
I mostly play Switch for first-party Nintendo stuff. I also play Steam Deck for pretty much anything else as it is an amazing device! I do also have a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, but it has been collecting a bit of dust...I just vastly prefer the Steam Deck as my "one stop shop" for nearly anything I want to play.
I love my Odin 2 Mini for Zenless Zone Zero. I decided to give it a try a few days after my preorder mini came in, and against all odds, I'm not only still playing it but also now playing Honkai: Star Rail on there as well for a few combined hours each night. Hopping on and checking goals off my list scratches a similar itch to the MMOs I used to play, and I enjoy the resource allocation metagame of building up currency to ensure I get the characters I want without spending money. I haven't used the O2M much at all for the original purpose I bought it for and it's still my favorite gaming purchase I've made in the last few years.
I’ve been using the Rg35xxsp it’s great! I also use my Steamdeck, and my Odin 2 I’ve been playing around with. Kind of wish I waited for the Odin 2 mini and got a mini Odin 2 instead, but it is what it is. I also have a 3DS XL me and my bro got but we rarely use it. I wish I had these kind of options as a kid but I’m happy with what I got now. The versatility between the handhelds is so much fun you can do tons of things. I like all the options! I’ve spent more time tinkering than playing these lol. 😬 😂 Great videos as always!
My two most used handhelds are my steam deck LCD and a modded 3dsxl. The steam deck I use for modern stuff as well as the more demanding emulation. More lightweight emulation usually goes to my 3ds though. The 3ds has an incredible native game library as well between the 3ds, ds, and gba. Anything older than that tends to run pretty well on it too.
Important question because, as cool as handhelds are, sometimes more time is spent browsing our game libraries, browsing Steam store, setting up emulators, etc., and then we just play games on our gaming PC or PS5, whatever as normal. I spend more time installing and uninstalling games on my Steam Deck than playing them. Heck, I probably spend more time on my 3DS than Steam Deck. I actually have two Steam Decks, one for travel, and one for home, and they go unused for days sometimes, but I have beaten several games on them. I have trouble focusing on a handheld when travelling so I use handhelds when laying in bed or in my living room mostly. Even when I go to a friend's house, I usually bring a dock and controller so I can play on a TV
Getting emustation set up on my main desktop at home has leveled up me finishing games, I used to barely play any of the hundreds of games I have but now I use Moonlight to stream those games to my ipad, my phone, my laptop, and my CHROMECAST! and its become a night and day difference for getting me to actually pick up a controller and just play, it took me like 50 hours to set up emustation with the emulators that weren't already in it, remove games that I had downloaded from packs that i would never play and to download games that i just wanted to flesh out my library a bit more as well as scraping all the cover arts, but now its my go to way to play games on the go and at home, as long as i have good wifi or data conneciton
I recently embraced the iphone retro gaming scene. Not that I am against a dedicated device but with (3) young kids, I just don't have the time or arms to carry another thing. "The best gaming device is the one you have on you." I only play retro RPGs and this iphone paired with a magsafe battery pack (because I use my phone for work too) is a minimalistic approach that works in this current season of life where I only get bursts of time to play in-between life. Bonus - But since Delta has the sync feature (and syncs the gameshark cheats plus the save states) I downloaded Delta on my M1 Macbook Air, synced all my data, paired a bluetooth controller and now I have the bigger screen/wonderful ergonomics of the controller. I then took this a step further, bought a cheapo Apple TV box and stream game to the big screen via air play from any apple device (phone or Macbook Air). The latency is just fine for the games I play. Both Apple devices were purchased intentionally a year after release so I was able to jump into the Apple silicon ecosystem for cheap all things considered.
Currently saving for a steam deck, the only thing keeping be back is that I’m sure I will stop using my vita and 3Ds. Even though I’ve had loads of fun with those, I know that the deck will be a better device and an amazing emulation machine.
Hey just want to offer you a different perspective. I collect handhelds and I love my Steamdeck but the experience between it and the 3DS and PsVita are not totally comparable. Sometimes I will opt to emulate a game on the 3ds/Vita just because the comfort, pocketability and ease of access (never worry about steam, updates, etc). All them are great consoles regardless! Sometimes you just want to lay in bed and play a GBA game without the thought of oh shit if I drop this console on my face I'm done for lmao.
Honestly if you have those moded then those are better to use for their respective systems rather then emulating them on other things. That said i do have a steamdeck that i dock up to a monitor at work, its just a nice portable steam machine even if you don't use it for it's handheld purpose, highly recommend unless you are an avid AAA player.
Well, the thing about 3DS and Vita is that they can't yet be emulated near perfectly. So for some games, you will want to keep those systems around. The 3DS especially since dual screen setups are harder to replicate in general.
My current rotation is a Steam Deck Classic, a New 3DS XL, a PS Vita, and a GBA Advance SP with an EZ Flash Omega and custom headphone jack install. I try to focus on playing a specific game in one place, so the actual backpack device changes day to day, covering a 30 minute ferry ride in my commute. Lately the Deck has gotten more carry time than anything, because I started Animal Well in the last month. Otherwise I've been playing Driver on my Vita, Zephyr's Pass on the 3DS, and Pokemon Emerald on the SP. The trapped on an island console would have to be the 3DS if I picked one.
I think the idea of powerful handhelds from Sony and Microsoft would be a game-changer. Imagine a portable device that can run games at console-level fidelity, with all the optimizations developers can put in. We’re already seeing steps in this direction with devices like the Nintendo Switch (basically a portable PS4) and the Steam Deck (which is similar to an underclocked PS5). Sure, they’re not perfect, but it shows that it’s possible, and maybe one day we’ll get there. If Sony and Microsoft are shifting to digital-only platforms, a handheld device could be a smart move. They’d make more money on digital sales since prices would stay consistent without physical retail, plus who doesn’t love the portability? While the PlayStation Portal concept was interesting, it didn’t fully deliver. Still, a dedicated handheld could be a strong product for them, especially if it has the right balance of power and portability. Some might ask, “Why not just use a handheld PC?” but consoles have the advantage of tighter optimization. Handheld PCs are versatile, but consoles could offer smoother gameplay, as they’re built for gaming from the ground up. Also, handheld consoles could be designed to dock for full screen gaming, giving us the best of both worlds. Ideally, I’d love to see console makers ditch the traditional, stationary box and make handhelds their main focus. Keep big consoles around if you want, but a portable version with comparable power and optimization would be amazing. And if they go fully digital, this shift to handheld consoles just makes sense. In the end, if we’re moving toward a digital-only future with “license-only” games, let’s go all-in with flexible, high-quality handhelds. Keep the high-power PCs and workstations for those who want the top tier experience, but let everyone else have consoles they can take anywhere.
Thanks to you, the Steamdeck, and the poor choices Microsoft has made I have successfully cut Microsoft out of my life. The steamdeck showed me that gaming on Linux is very doable these days, you showed me things like Bazzite exists to be able to turn a PC into a console, and Microsoft has a very long list of bad life choices. Sold my Xbox and Switch to help the parts needed to build a new 2nd rig for my couch gaming that runs Bazzite while my main rig runs Nobara. I don't regret dropping Microsoft one bit. Though in terms of handhelds the only thing I play around with right now is the Gameboy Color I built using FunnyPlaying's kit. It was nice having a kit that didn't require soldering to put together. But once again, thank you Bob for me showing me there's a brighter light away from Microsoft.
@@lucariotrainer16 I think it was a fake claim made by some random person abusing the youtube takedown system. nintendo confirmed that they didn't do anything
My devices include my gaming PC, OG Rog Ally, and Nintendo Switch. I enjoy playing games on the Rog Ally more for some reason, and my switch is for the Nintendo games
Thanks for this. I have a Steam Deck on my night stand, and RP4Pro in my backpack for commuting, and a miyoo mini v4 that sits in my pocket whenever I know I will need it. I do want a small horizontal handheld that I can use portmaster on.
I think we hit the height of gaming handhelds about 1 year ago. I am no longer lining up to purchase new ones, and some of the ones coming out, feel like iphones, just changing 1 or 2 things between models. There isn't much of a generational jump year to year right now. I have my original steam 512, original ally and legion go.
currently waiting for the steam deck 2 and the next rog ally to decide which one to go with to finally get a handheld, if the rog ally 2 has an oled screen i will definitely go with that but otherwise steam deck 2
I use the original switch, LCD Steam Deck and Miyoo Mini. All slightly different use cases. I love always having the miyoo mini on me just in case there’s any down time wherever I go
My dream PC handheld would be the size of a PSP, can emulate PS2 games and play PC games at low to medium. Extra point for clamshell design but it seems the tech is not there yet. So I'll just settle with an Android handheld like the Retroid Pocket Mini.
9:45 this is me. I’m the people he’s talking about. My RG35XX stopped working and would not boot up. I went into bobs chat for help. I was using the stock SD card and that was the problem. I took an SD card from a newer RG35XX and put it in my “broken” one, and it booted up. It seemed the crappy SD cards they come included with are unreliable.
I bought a Steam Deck LCD 64gb because I wasn't certain I'd like the handheld gaming experience and so far I really love it but, I want to do some upgrades like a bigger SSD. Now, I really have, thanks to 300+ hours of gameplay of a certain PS5 port (Death Stranding: Director's Cut), begun to like the form factor and size. What I'd like to do, is get a second Steam Deck, put a 2tb SSD in it and, install Windows 11 so I can play another game Escape from Tarkov on a handheld and have a small portable PC with an operating environment I am more accustomed to using. Thoughts? Hints? Allegations? Things left unsaid?
I'm a little sad there wasn't an unhinged factor sponser, but it's cool to see some of the stuff you game on! I've been gaming on my laptop, switch, and miyoo mini lately.
New 2DSXL with cfw and a Steam Deck OLED. Recently scrapped my Switch OLED, most of its physical library, and all the bootleg handhelds out of financial necessity. Honestly kind of liberating, if I'm being honest.
been loving my steam deck OLED, waiting for my RP5 to ship in 2 weeks so i can have an android gaming device that isnt being bombarded with discord DMs and text messages. i was thinking about the Odin 2, but it was kinda big and the RP5 seems perfect (smaller, cheaper, almost as powerful)
I like reading about other people's set ups so here's mine. My gaming devices: Nintendo Switch (unmodded) - for games I wish to purchase a cart of. I try to not buy any digital games for ownership purposes. Currently playing Zelda Breath of the Wild Miyoo Mini Plus - for NDS and under. Currently playing Pheonix Wright:Ace Attorney Phone (Samsung S24 Ultra) - mainly for psp and ps2 emulation andAndroid ports of pc games. I play some casual games on here but not often. I'm interested in getting into gamecube/dreamcast/wii/wiiu/3ds emulation too. But I'm happy with what i have for now FPGBC - for GBC duh. It was an impulse buy. I clearly didnt need it since i have the miyoo for gbc but i really wanted to make a custom gameboy and shipping was free so i caved. The only carts i own are kirby tilt and tumble since i cant emulate that accurately and a flash cart for roms i wanna focus on. The rest of my gbc roms stay in de miyoo as storage. I dont wanna flood my flash cart with stuff I don't actually wanna play. Legion 5 Laptop - for pc games and switch emulation Ps Vita - for vita games duh and psp when im lazy to load the iso into my phone Psp - for nostalgia and tinkering. I dont really seriously game on it much. I just like holding it and looking at it. I feel proud to own it because it was my first ever shell swap and it took me 4 hours. It gave me confidence to build my fpgbc and shell swap my controllers. So i love it for that.
Man i was on the switch emulation bandwagon, but i got off when i realised that jumping all those hoops just for a game to have graphics errors and crash frequently on a high end pc was just not worth it, compared to the switch that'll have a few hiccups in fps but thats about it, until they release the new console i.e.
been using switch oled and recently got the nitro deck + for it too because its about the most affordable price i can fetch up from my budget between all the bills and other priorities. I took the switch in the nitro deck+ to overseas trips and i gotta say I enjoyed playing my game on it in hotels or just waiting for the next flight, and so on and so forth. I do have a PC at home but that's nowhere near enough for high end games. Not that I really like graphically pleasing games anyway. It plays WoW on my PC, I'm good with that. When on the move i game on my switch.
I really wish the PlayStation portal acted like a Wii U when you’re under the same roof and it just connects to the PlayStation directly instead of trying to jump through Wi-Fi I feel like that would solve a lot of the latency problems
The Switch has had the most play by far, but I really enjoy the little RG35 unit I've got (I think it's an XX) and keep debating between a Legion Go or a ASUS Rog Ally. In Canadian $$ they are a lot of coin, but if I see one for the right price I will probably get one. My other gaming console is X Box Series X, but there's things on there I'd like to play not attached to the TV. The MSI claws were on sale recently, and while some of the review videos were seeming like sales pitches, a lot of the groups I'm in for handheld gaming are still saying it's not super good for this type of play. Maybe one day!
Steam OLED. I just got rid of my rg35xx h, gave it to my nephews. Replacing with retroid pocket 5 (wife has the mini and loves it). Would love an sp, maybe down the road for cheap or if they make an even better one. My most recent retro game has been Wario Land on virtual boy. Looks really nice on an OLED
Btw use the Qualcomm 777 driver on Odin 2 for EOW. Helps performance dramatically I'm playing 1080p docked at full speed in *most* places (runs especially well in dungeons) Cubeb audio to fix any audio stuttering. Some flickering of trees but only in certain areas on the map
I love playing on my main pc. But love the haptics on steam deck(og) rog ally is a better performer but it’s always a challenge. I really like the minis forum v3. The tablets thin and easy to fit in my brief case and doesn’t look to gamerish - like my gigabyte aorus(4070) while when I want to chill in bed it doesn’t disturb the wife. Even with my onexegpu on turbo. 1 draw back is getting my custom built egpu to accept Nvidia cards not code 43. I truly feel the minisforum with the 1600p display is a great portable gaming power house. It’s like the switch. Hook it up to the dock and premium setting. On the go 780m works great for most games.
To be fair in the case of the Odin 2 Portal, it isn't just bigger, but it also has a 120hz OLED screen. An OLED screen is something that I've seen many people requesting for an Odin revision, and the 120Hz would likely help quite a bit with Android games because of the improved response times.
I have a box next to my bed called the “handheld caddy” where I keep a ds lite, 3DS, gba, miyoo mini, steam deck, vita, switch lite, psp, analogue pocket just in case you know …
Rather surprised a steamdeck doesn't end up on the nightstand, but if you never play games for which the trackpads are if not essential than massively beneficial in that location anyway... For myself ever since playing with a Steamcontroller I've never been able to go back, sticks have their place but the flexibility of trackpads is so great and once you have gotten used to them you actively miss the precision you get with them.
An FYI for your ad: The FCC prohibits unauthorized use of Emergency Alert System (EAS) tones, including in UA-cam videos, to prevent public confusion. Violations can result in substantial fines, as seen with ESPN’s $146,976 penalty in 2024. Content creators should avoid using EAS tones without explicit authorization to comply with regulations.
Well, mostly steam deck with windows 11 for pc games, setting the steam app for big screen at startup works fine for me. Then I also use Switch lite, modded, so I can overclock, mostly for specific games. Odin 2, for emulation up to switch. RG40XX and Arc-D less, much less than the others. RP4Pro not used at all lately.
I absolutely love rg 350m it looks cool and I’m only using it for playing my PS one games on the go and it does the job sadly nobody is talking about it anymore but that’s how it goes with these handhelds Great video once again keep it up🤘😎
3DS, fat Vita, and a decent PC. There is almost no game you won't be able to play. The 3DS library+legacy alone is insane Edit: This is specifically without emulation even, because I don't really like to emulate games if I can't seek original hardware. Of course emulation on PC can do so much.
For me my Switch and the RG35XX-H are my go two devices. My PC and PS4 Pro collect dust, the Switch is pur multiplayer, indie and Mario machine but the Anbernic is my most used device of the year. PS1 is just perfect on it and it's always fun to replay my favourite NES games on it. I also got an RG351P wich has a 3:2 screen for GBA. It is currently my Fire Emblem machine.
i got a 35XXSP but i just end up using my modded 3ds. i got a used "new" model on the cheaper side by importing it from japan. i got the white one which was never in the states and after having only used old model 3ds systems its just a joy. i adore the ds and 3ds family of systems and i often have no reason to use any other handheld. between that and my pretty beefed pc, im fully covered
I have a few... but I mostly just use my phone with a controller + clip. The screen and performance are way better, and it doesn't make my thumbs hurt. Edit: It's nice actually playing and finishing games instead of spending a ton of time shopping for and setting up devices.
This year I bought my first emulator, the Trimui Smart Pro. It's a good first start but I wish I had more power to play some more modern titles with ease.

That sounds so cool. Does the 3ds run SNES and GBA games well? I'd like to play SNES games on the go and the 3ds has just the right size for me.
@@TheClyde1993 It runs them pretty good. Even DSi was running SNES (terribly).

For me it’s:
1. The Switch OLED (I love Nintendo games and there are no shortage of those especially with Online classics. Plus the battery life can’t be beat)
2. Steam Deck OLED (My third party/AAA backlog machine)
3. PS Portal (My Final Fantasy, AstroBot, and PS first party backlog machine)
I only have the switch because it was cheap
I hope in the near future we could have these three:
Switch oled + steamdeck 2 + ps vita 2
odin 2 mini is my go to. i love this thing to death, i even sold my rg cube, rg35xx, and rg35xxh!
I have been lurking watching your videos for months; your rant about subscribing was successful, so I subscribed.
Hope you get to the million soon.
I don't know about swapping out but moded handhelds run thier games the best since ofc, thats what they were made for lol. I have:
- A moded 2ds xl for gba/ds/3ds games,
- A moded vita/vitatv for ps1/psp/vita games, anything older then that i just run on anything but,
- My go to travel with is the retroid flip,
- Steamdeck is my go to for playing through my library at work and otherwise i'm contemplating getting an Odin device to run most things (but mainly ps2/3 and game cube), Finally
- The switch with a retrodeck is what i used for those games (though getting a dumper is very tempting until the switch 2 comes out).
I've got a PC, Steam Deck, Switch, PS Vita, PSP, PSP Go, 3DS, RG35xx-h and Miyoo A30.
The A30 goes with me everywhere.
PC - power hungry games
SD - indies
Switch - Persona 5, Tears of the Kingdom
The rest of them get occasional use, maybe twice a month.
How is Persona 5 on the switch? I’ve only played console, but it does feel like a game suited for the switch/handheld devices.

bazzite on my 6800u gpd win 4 renewed my love of gaming. the friction that windows offers was just too much most of the time, and put me off all the 30-120 min gaming sessions i used to do. it got to the point that i basically wouldnt play pc games if i wasnt so excited for a game i could sit down and play it for 4+ hours in a sitting. the streamlined and no nonsense approach that steamOS has got me playing all those chill games, or indie games that are well suited to taking a break with, or to play while half watching a tv show. my one negative is that i cant play some of the AAA games i want like jedi survivor or ratchet and clank rift apart. i cant wait until the next gen headhelds start coming out and i can finally get one that fulfills all my high end gaming needs.
The OneX Fly F1 pro was just announced and it seems a really strong candidate, we’ll just have to wait and see the price
Setting up windows on my Legion Go out of the box was a real PITA, setting up Bazzite was so easy like 5x quicker and easier.
I use my Nintendo Switch for exclusive titles and my Steam Deck for everything else I want to play portably or emulate.

The big thing that stopped me from moving to Bazzite full time is that the wifi performance on Linux is so much slower than on Windows, at least on the Ally X. It made a noticeable difference installing games or Moonlight streaming.
In the order of purchase:
Switch, Switch lite, 2DS, PS4, PS3, NDS, PS Vita, New 3DS XL, WiiU, Miyoo Mini Plus, Steam Deck.
Retroid Pocket 4 Pro has been my favorite handheld, even over the 5 in some aspects, love that thing.
Your alarm siren in the ad triggered me! That's our emergency earthquake warning alert in Taiwan!
6:18 the switch dumper on the left with the cartridge on top 😂
Watching this 7 seconds after release.. nice
Watching your reviews convinced me to get an oled steamdeck. I’m loving baldurs gate on it 🔥😂
My two most used handhelds are my steam deck LCD and a modded 3dsxl.
Even when I go to a friend's house, I usually bring a dock and controller so I can play on a TV
anbernic bites... they shipped mine with a faulty screen... I love your video's so much. Your podcast is awesome.
The only thing more terrifying than serial killers and dying alone is not knowing what to play and on what device.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃 👻
I recently embraced the iphone retro gaming scene. Not that I am against a dedicated device but with (3) young kids, I just don't have the time or arms to carry another thing. "The best gaming device is the one you have on you." I only play retro RPGs and this iphone paired with a magsafe battery pack (because I use my phone for work too) is a minimalistic approach that works in this current season of life where I only get bursts of time to play in-between life.
Bonus -
But since Delta has the sync feature (and syncs the gameshark cheats plus the save states) I downloaded Delta on my M1 Macbook Air, synced all my data, paired a bluetooth controller and now I have the bigger screen/wonderful ergonomics of the controller.
That said i do have a steamdeck that i dock up to a monitor at work, its just a nice portable steam machine even if you don't use it for it's handheld purpose, highly recommend unless you are an avid AAA player.
i rotate my steam deck, switch OLED, PSP GO, Moded IPS GBA . i like the steam deck but its not always the most portable feeling device out there.
I've been using the Steam Deck to chip away at my backlog. I rewarded myself with persona 5 Royal.
I use the steam deck LCD on my TV. and the SP.

X1 forcing you to take down the review video was stupid af. Why do they care so much.Glad you yeeted them outta your life.
I like reading about other people's set ups so here's mine.
My gaming devices:
Nintendo Switch (unmodded) - for games I wish to purchase a cart of. I try to not buy any digital games for ownership purposes. Currently playing Zelda Breath of the Wild
Miyoo Mini Plus - for NDS and under. Currently playing Pheonix Wright:Ace Attorney
Phone (Samsung S24 Ultra) - mainly for psp and ps2 emulation andAndroid ports of pc games. I play some casual games on here but not often. I'm interested in getting into gamecube/dreamcast/wii/wiiu/3ds emulation too. But I'm happy with what i have for now
FPGBC - for GBC duh.
Legion 5 Laptop - for pc games and switch emulation
Ps Vita - for vita games duh and psp when im lazy to load the iso into my phone
Psp - for nostalgia and tinkering.
I think that was Bob's best sign-off segment ever.
Man the never ending backlog is just normal these days. It's Soo hard to get time to finish a game

On the go 780m works great for most games.
surprised to not see your Miyoo Mini mentioned. It's still my most used device 3 years on
I follow you for a couple of years now, I share a lot of your same thoughts, buying the rog ally x soon in my next trip to the US
To be fair in the case of the Odin 2 Portal, it isn't just bigger, but it also has a 120hz OLED screen.
My main two handheld consoles are the N Switch and the PS Portal. Any recommendation for a travel bag for these two?!?

3DS, fat Vita, and a decent PC. There is almost no game you won't be able to play. The 3DS library+legacy alone is insane
Edit: This is specifically without emulation even, because I don't really like to emulate games if I can't seek original hardware.

One day Bob will beat all of Super Mario Maker 2!
This year I bought my first emulator, the Trimui Smart Pro. It's a good first start but I wish I had more power to play some more modern titles with ease.
