I appreciate your honesty. I'm currently going into business for myself. I've been browsing through videos and doing my research, so I can obtain the best suited rig for what I'm going to be towing. Your advice helped immensely in making these decisions. Working for others, be it a small business or a corporate business, sucks! You end up making pennies on their dollars. Makes it hard to bring food to the table. I look at it like this, if I'm going to be grinding day in and day out, I'm going to do it for my families table, not someone else's table.
I got a 2017 3500 CCLB Laramie in white, and only reason I got it was cause it came with the Aisin, always feels solid👍 27 yrs old here haha I feel you on the hustling side, keep it up bro.
What's your thoughts about hotshotting with the gas truck versus diesel due to the fact that I don't want def system . They crud up your oil and engine.
I'm looking at a truck set up like yours. I'll be pulling a Cimarron horse trailer converted to a toy hauler. Do I need to go with the long bed? Or can I haul a gooseneck with the short bed? Thanks
Just a quick question man....for a 4 to 5 car trailer, driving both city and nationally, Ram? Ford? Chasis? I would really appreciate any advice you can give. What would be the most financially beneficial truck for me
You are doing LTL or hot shot loads with that truck? Is it worth getting into? I've been considering it as an option when I retire in a few years. I'll only be 39. Lots of time left to make a few bucks.
hey man, thanks for all the informative videos. What length trailers do you run for your hot shot trucks? Do you ever haul for the RV manufacturers out of Indiana?
i have a question about the hot shot world.. Are you able to do just weekend hauls like leave sat morning and be back sun night? cause i would like to do this just to bring in some extra money on the weekends.
Hey PD, thanks for the info. I totally agree with staying on top of your maintenance, I'm an old helicopter tech so preventive maintenance is my forte. You mentioned diff lube you use, who's the manufacturer? Is it amsoil?
Great info! Is the cab itself the same cab on a 1500, 2500, 3500? For example your crew cab is the same across all 3? Wasn't sure if Ram made them any different based on if it is a larger truck.
Thanks so much! Was wondering for size but also for safety. The last IIHS crash test of the 1500 wasn't so good. So a shared cab across all platforms would (I assume) also suck. I am hoping the 2500/3500's are better because like you I'd have to haul me family as well.
Its funny, because I recognized were you was driving. I was like oh shit I know were he is driving. I love my 2013 ram 3500 with the aisin. Its a tow master compared to the my 15 chevy 6.6 the chevy stops better under heavy loads. but doesn't have the take off power when you stop and go. The ram just takes off no matter what, while the chevy needs a lot more fuel and it worries us the tranny can't handle it. Just bought a 16' ford 6.7 and I hope it wasn't a mistake
As a crew cab man myself. You don't get extra room in a mega cab. It's the same as a crew cab. Just get a little more storage behind the seat at the expense of the longer bed. I prefer the bed space.
Only reason i have the truck is to pull my 41 ft camper. I stay in RV parks i do not boondock. It doesnt seem like a lot but the shorter truck makes manuevering in tight spots easier. I prefer the shortbed crew cab SRW as it is shorter than my mega cab but it doesnt tow as much.
My next truck will probably end up being a Ram even though we drive Ford Flex and a Fusion. I want to know what you would choose to pull a 14000 lb 5th wheel family of 5 for wkend and one to two month summer travel?
Cruz Mascorro Definitely a cummins. slap on a tuner, fuel injectors and youll get better fuel mileage and more power, IF you want to have that. but i would choose a cummins over a powerstroke or duramax.
Cruz, I bought the 2017 Ram 3500 dually asin transmission. 3.73 rear end and I tow 15,000 pounds 40 foot 5th wheel. All the power you will ever want. I just love it. Also has rear airbags, you will need it.
dry509 they all have there problems. So just see which one fits you best. I personally wouldn't trade my 2014 limited for any other truck out there. Also my 2001 dually 6 speed work horse will never get sold. so there you have it.
I am looking at a 17’ Ram 3500 SRW Laramie Limited Crew Cab Standard bed 4x4. They are selling it for 55K. It has 12k miles on it. What do you think? Can I get it for less?
@@madbear3512 I watched this video again and saw my old comment. Update: I bought that truck awhile ago. It’s awesome. The only thing I don’t really like is the chrome side steps, I’m thinking about getting amp steps.
Used trucks are risky AND new trucks don't cost much more. Why take the risk? I'm buying new 3500 with Aisin. It will pay for itself based on following your advice so buying new is great insurance for not much more than the used market.
I'd love a new truck, but won't buy one for the reasons you stated. Simply put, I don't need it for what I do. I have a clean 04 Cummins with a NV4500, 4x4 crew cab longbox. 👍🏼
what are some of the best/most milage you've gotten on a set of tires. so far I'm going on past 10000 miles on this set and seems to be doing OK. kumho at 51
I might have to try out a set of those Toyo's. Another question. In one of your videos you mention that you like the single random trailer better than the tandom dually because of the amount of drag and wieght. But you disliked the strength of the single compared to the dually. Would getting a tandom dually trailer and taking off four tires be the same as a single tandom but with more strength? Just some random thinking on that. Love your videos
My 08 6.7 with 68rfe, blew it around 160k with 10k, so I went with a nv5600 out of a 2001 24v cab and chassis. I city drive a lot but it lays the power down so much better
+MrBIGG360 I'm at 35k on them and still got 30 percent left, but keep in mind this truck gets alot of miles put on empty. Still not to bad on Tire life. But for avg joe. These tires are the best. There's a reason my toyo gets the money they are asking for out of them.....
Seems like 40k is the new life of tires lol. Have a 15 ram duelly lookin for some new rubber, only tow about 10k-12k in the snow and summer. Ill check the toyos out
I went with an old 12v because of cost, emissions, and fuel economy. The new trucks cost/return isn't very good compared to the old truck. My truck makes money with no overhead. Being a new businesses owner 45-70K sure is a scary investment. I'm not going to buy a brand new tradesman but I would want a nicer one. I can't win. bleh If I had drivers I would want them in new trucks for an onslaught of reasons
Newer diesels suck.... that is just the fact of the matter like it or not. Get you a nice used diesel truck, put some money into it and fix er up... and you will have a truck that's just a good if not better than the new piles manufacturers are coming out with.
Any one can explain how we get more horsepower and f-torque from Aisin automatic transmission then six speed manual They said : 68RFE 370hp and 800 lb-ft Manual 350/660 Aisin 385/900 I don't get it I want manual transmission but I need the high "ft "as well ...😱
oasisauto boost and fuel quantity is controlled by the computer. they turn it down so you dont explode the clutch and tranny. still has more than enogh power. they could probably turn it up to 400hp and 1100lb ft with no mods but the aisin might need some tweaking to handle it
What are you using it for? What does he tow? How much does he haul in the bed? Some people can get away with a v6, some people need the hemi... some people need the cummins.
+el churrito I was 19 when I started. Slowly picking up one customer at a time. At 19 i didn't have a wife and kids. So I could afford a crazy pay schedule
personally I disagree, Aisin is a good trans but the 68 will do just as good. the 68 will last just as long as you don't increase power, that's the key to the 68. Aisin is rated for more power hence why you get the 900 ft pound of torque with the Aisin, where you have 800 with the 68 and 600 with the 56
I have owned both. The 68RFE drives way better. smoother, faster shifts. Empty the 68 will provide a faster truck. Even the 800FT vs 900Ft no contest the AISIN will lose the drag race. The AISIN is better suited to heavy loads. It has a much more aggressive tow haul programing and can decouple under heavy load on a grade. So I think RAM has it right. 68RFE belongs in the 2500 and anyone buying a 3500 should option the AISIN.
3.42-3.73-4.10's SHEESH!!! Alot of hot wind here!!! SRW trucks are only available with 3.42's.......... So, unless you want to pay a shit load of money to change axle ratios you are stuck with 3.42's....... NO OPTIONS HERE, OKAY! Now, if you want, or need a dually there are optional gear ratios available. Just not in SRW trucks. I think this guy is driving a srw so the b.s. is irrelevant.
Love your videos , but guaranteed if you go to a megacab you'll never go back to crew cab , I have a 08 and a 17 megacab I love both them I rarely drive my 12 crew cab
I was thinking about getting into hotshot, I own a peterbilt 379 right now. I was wondering if it would be worth the move, as far as profitability. Enjoy your videos.
I guess just general freight, I've been seeing things off the load board...they pay alright. Just now researching about hotshot. I've been reading that 40ft dove tail would be the best one to get??
Brian Baty really depends on freight. I run mostly flatbed and few dove tail. best length depends on operating area. i like 36-38 footers. over the road I say 48 footers
The problem with going with the G56 is that you get a de-tuned engine rating to match the input torque capability of the G56 (~700 lbs/ft. rating for input, de-tune is down to 600 lbs/ft-ish I believe), and the max towing capability of the truck drops considerably, from 30,660 lbs. on a 4x2 crew-cab/8' box with the auto to 17,960 on the same truck with the G56 (go to www.ramtrucks.com/en/towing_guide/ and check for yourself). That is a ton of capability to give up for a "perceived" improvement in reliability. An auto can be just as reliable if properly equipped and maintained. Heat kills them, so transmission cooling is critical. Adding a deeper, finned trans pan and an auxiliary cooler is the way to go (and yes, I know they come with an auxiliary cooler already) for maximum life, as is frequent fluid changes. Now, if you are going with a 6'4" box, the difference between the G56 and the auto is much, much less - they are almost on par, with the auto edging it out just slightly. However, that auto trans is the 68RFE, and though it is much better than it was a few years ago, it's not as stout as the Aisin trans. In that case, I'd go with the G56 most likely, as you're not giving up much in the way of towing capacity. If you need to tow over 17k, you need a truck with the 8' box and the Aisin transmission; the G56 just isn't rated as high.
MX372 the only rams that'll tow 30k is the 3500 with an AISIN transmission and the dually configuration. The engine is detuned for the 68rfe as well as g56. All the single rear wheel options don't tow over 18k. Including the high output cummins with the AISIN.
1970 olds442 Idk what source of info you're looking at, but it's definitely wrong. Lol AISIN is the most bulletproof transmission ever put in a dodge ram in existence. FACT. That's from ram themselves and from all the independent testing done on the ram trucks, which there's a lot. There's a reason they have to detune the 6.7 so much in order to put a G56 in it. It's a shit tranny. And the clutch slips when you delete and tune the truck. It isn't meant to handle anything over 650lb ft tq. FACT. I've only ever seen 1 AISIN come into the shop with an issue and it was caused by lack of maintenance by the owner. The rest are torn up G56 and 68rfe Chrysler junk that have been shredded to pieces.
I have an asin trans in my mega cab. I tow what ever I want. I tow 14k tractors and loads of rocks with no problems. Only complaint is a leak in my sunroof or door haven't figured it out yet. And I'm at 112k and my front end needs some parts replaced it's getting lose. I've owned fords and and didn't get that play in the wheel until I hit around 180k
slick ruler awesome truck. but check your stop light up on the cab. I had one Truck leak water thru there. Also front end problems are not known on these trucks. as far as 2013+ I have trucks from 45k thru 275k. All running original front end parts. besides couple Wheel hubs went out already. one Truck at 70k and another one at 150k. weird but the 275k one no issues
PD Diesel Power I have aftermarket hubs so didn't get the chance on the stock ones. I'm about to do the wheel bearings and front end. I've checked the brake like. It only leaks when it's raining hard and heavy winds. It's the most frustrating thing yet. I have a car seat in the back on driver side and the water leaks threw the speaker on to the car seat. As far as engine and trans I'm happy.
PD Diesel Power how do you get your loads for hot shot do you have to have your cdl ? I got my class A and I'm buying a freightliner soon. But would be scared of running some hot shot loads in the mean time.
PD Diesel Power I have it seems too be wet around the sunroof area. I'm suspecting the seal of the sunroof or drain tubes. Just Haven't had a chance to take it in to have it looked at. And also it seems to leak when I'm parked at an upward slant.
i have a 2016 Mega cab with AISIN and 4:10 I had a 2014 SRW rf68 and 3.42 pulling the exact same camper with a GVWR of 16600 I got 13 MPG with the 3.42 and 9.3 MPG with the 4:10 . Obviously with the 4:10 AISIN it tows the camper easily but there is a huge penalty in fuel. I too think the 3.73s are better. Only issue is MAX towing with 3.42 is 17000. 3.73 is 24000 and with 4.10 mega cab 4x4 it is 30200. I hope one day to buy a camper that is close to 24000 GVWR so I am gonna upgrade my fuel tank to the Titan 51 Gallon and live with the easy towing of the 4.10
Robert Meehan I just recently did the same due to not having enough payload for my fifth wheel. I didn't get that mpg with the 2014 srw rf68/3.42 though. I was getting in average 8-9 maybe 10-11 if it was flat. While I haven't towed my 5ver yet with the new truck, I was told to expect better mpgs due to the ease of tow. We shall see. Also, excellent vid PD👍👍
my camper is a 2016 coachmen brookstone 395RL on flat ground I was definitely getting 12-13 MPG towing at 69 MPH. The 68rfe would shift into 6th gear at 68 MPH. Even going through mountains on 68 west in west Virginia never got below 10.5 with 3.42. The mega with 4.10 will do better than 9.3 MPG at 55 mph even coming close to 13 but no way I am going from Baltimore to OKC at 55mph
Robert Meehan I have. 2016 Heartland oakmont 395QB. It appears that we have traveled on some of the same roads my friend. When I purchased my 5'ver I took I68 and needless to say the pucker factor was real. The rfe68 towed it with ease however, the mpgs sucked. I travel from Southern Maryland about 35 minutes south of B'more.
Question for you. Where can you find a Ram 3500 that can tow 30,000+ lbs? I have looked at every Ram dealer in a 200 mile radius and NOBODY has one, and NEVER ORDERS one on the lot.
you can use Ram's website to search inventory when searching you have to go select dual rear wheels then go back to powertrain and select 4.10. That will get you 30000 Lb towing. Has to be a long bed or a mega cab. No short bed crew for dual
Hey I don't haul shit, but want to delete my 15, and yes i have that 68 roe trans, what would you offer as an opinion on tunes and trans . Before I waste serious money , I DO NOT want to race cars etc. Just well tune and keep trans safe. THANKS>
thinking on trading it in for a 3500, all for the trans. Don't want to delete then deystroy the cheap fiat trans. Will miss my bells and whistles . FK.
Newer diesels suck.... that is just the fact of the matter like it or not. Get you a nice used diesel truck, put some money into it and fix er up... and you will have a truck that's just a good if not better than the new piles manufacturers are coming out with.
Ray Dornbush true to certain extent. If you spend a lot of time in your truck then you'll very much appreciate your comfort features. If you need a truck for some times use. then yes go with an older one and fix her up. but the older trucks are built with heavier Metals therefore making them tougher. I'm a guy that has both will not trade one or the other.
Right... When I say they suck I'm more or less referring to the emissions features that I hear fail quite a bit and cost a lot of extra money to repair.
a bro im not gonna make fun of you too much because you hopefully have cummins in there and not gas! BUT you arent even using dually to pull That thing?? at least you arent using a ford cant roll faster than 20 miles an hour on the freeway.

You need to upgrade your airbags in the rear of your truck so it doesn’t squat like it is with such a big load
my dad just bought a 2017 ram 1500 should we have gotton a hami with it or stay with out the hami?
What are you using it for? What does he tow? How much does he haul in the bed? Some people can get away with a v6, some people need the hemi... some people need the cummins.
dmc16336 a lot of people have been buying the 3.0l ecodiesel it gets 30 mpg and can tow fine.
nice truck, love the cummins diesel engine.. where are you driving?
Richard Wallace thanks for the support.
I was headed home.
Spokane WA. coming from the valley
Good video man but on a 1to10 scale how drunk were you ?
How you do it to start your business in hotshot??? Being so young?? Im 27 and wanna start hot shotting.
Aisin is rated for more power hence why you get the 900 ft pound of torque with the Aisin, where you have 800 with the 68 and 600 with the 56
good video though man, again
I have owned both. The 68RFE drives way better. smoother, faster shifts. Empty the 68 will provide a faster truck. Even the 800FT vs 900Ft no contest the AISIN will lose the drag race. The AISIN is better suited to heavy loads. It has a much more aggressive tow haul programing and can decouple under heavy load on a grade. So I think RAM has it right. 68RFE belongs in the 2500 and anyone buying a 3500 should option the AISIN.
I thought the new rams that have the G56 have the same power rated motor as the 66&68RFE? The 800 lb. ft. of Torque one?
Can I ask you a question ?
I was thinking about getting into hotshot, I own a peterbilt 379 right now. I was wondering if it would be worth the move, as far as profitability. Enjoy your videos.
Brian Baty all depends what you want to haul.
Brian Baty did you end up switching to hot shot? If so, how is it working out for you?
I've owned fords and and didn't get that play in the wheel until I hit around 180k
slick ruler
awesome truck. but check your stop light up on the cab.
But would be scared of running some hot shot loads in the mean time.
slick ruler I hear you. give the light a really good look. I have a feeling it's giving you truble. very known problem with these trucks
PD Diesel Power I have it seems too be wet around the sunroof area. I'm suspecting the seal of the sunroof or drain tubes. Just Haven't had a chance to take it in to have it looked at. And also it seems to leak when I'm parked at an upward slant.
nice truck i have a question. The 3500 that you have is the 3500 dually the same gvwr as yours. Also can you get the truck you have in a mega cab
james lutu no they have different gvwr. And yes you can have a 3500 aisin mega cab but comes with the short bed.
i have a 2016 Mega cab with AISIN and 4:10 I had a 2014 SRW rf68 and 3.42 pulling the exact same camper with a GVWR of 16600 I got 13 MPG with the 3.42 and 9.3 MPG with the 4:10 .
I travel from Southern Maryland about 35 minutes south of B'more.
very nice looking.
so what difference do you notice in the transmissions.
Question for you. Where can you find a Ram 3500 that can tow 30,000+ lbs? I have looked at every Ram dealer in a 200 mile radius and NOBODY has one, and NEVER ORDERS one on the lot.
Gary Crumrine go to a good local dealer and ask them to locate one for you. That's if you want to work with them.... otherwise order one yourself
where do you live?i bought my 30200 lb tower off the lot
you can use Ram's website to search inventory when searching you have to go select dual rear wheels then go back to powertrain and select 4.10. That will get you 30000 Lb towing. Has to be a long bed or a mega cab. No short bed crew for dual
www.ourismanchryslerdodgejeep.net/new/Ram/2017-Ram-3500-76a862d20a0e0a6b19ca8adc6cbeba75.htm where I bought mine. I think this truck looks awesome
Gary Crumrine you use the RAM websight you will have a better opportunity to get a better truck
Me3 I get a nice low mile truck
I am surprised that you are pulling with single rear wheel truck
I had my second 3500 Laramie 2017 at age 24😎
That trailer and load are to heavy for your truck, you need a dually!
and the 15,000 mile service costs 500 to 600 bucks and the 30,000 mile service is 700 to 800 bucks. Ouch.
don't have to worry about the newer trucks, with that crap def system on them, I wont get one that new!
Passenger vehicle buy a 1500 these big rigs drive like buck board wagons.
David Stanley very true
David Stanley .. agreed
true, but a 1500 cant haul crap!, I need the heavier truck to haul my trailer
Hey I don't haul shit, but want to delete my 15, and yes i have that 68 roe trans, what would you offer as an opinion on tunes and trans . Before I waste serious money , I DO NOT want to race cars etc. Just well tune and keep trans safe. THANKS>
Jim Cash. go with efi live, run there 30hp tune and use there transmission tune as well.
thinking on trading it in for a 3500, all for the trans. Don't want to delete then deystroy the cheap fiat trans. Will miss my bells and whistles . FK.
Jim Cash. for what you want to do. no need to get rid of the truck. just make sure you get the trans tuned and your good.
That's why you delete em.
Ray Dornbush all the new shit is designed to fall apart and cost tons of money to fix
a bro im not gonna make fun of you too much because you hopefully have cummins in there and not gas! BUT you arent even using dually to pull That thing?? at least you arent using a ford cant roll faster than 20 miles an hour on the freeway.
lot of drama in that cab. i think you should ride alone.
POS
truck is only as good as the trans. so...it sucks
dodge is going to loose cummings then what? nobody will buy their junk then
i have a question about the hot shot world.. Are you able to do just weekend hauls like leave sat morning and be back sun night? cause i would like to do this just to bring in some extra money on the weekends.
Andrew Kibler maybe once or twice a year. defiantly not worth it
